Highlights the art and inspirational journeys of fourteen significant artists who have, in the last twenty years, shared their work and lives with children, in a collection that combines each section with photographs of artist and child.
The portraits in this book are absolutely beautiful. The book highlights the self portraits and stories of 14 different artists. It's interesting to see how artists, whom are gifted at seeing beauty in the world, see themselves.
This brightly colored and plain-texed volume lets us into the world of great artists: how famous artists see themselves and why they do what they do is simply and amazingly portrayed. Photographs of the people chronicled as children as well as adults accompany neon-colored self-portraits. How do you see me, through my art, or otherwise, and who am I, really? This question is asked and answered, and asked again throughout this visually stimulating and provocative little text. Enjoy!
I love serendipitous experiences!!! I was at the library today picking up a couple of requested books and was drawn to this displayed children's book probably because of my fascination with artists and their art. Through this book I was introduced to some artists that were new to me, and I now have some new favorite artists such as Rodolfo Morales. I had read the children's book he illustrated but I now have an even greater appreciation of his art--and him.
I love this book because it contains representations of artists from different cultures while at the same time incorporating art, which would appeal to the different and diverse interests of students. I would definitely include this book in my classroom library someday.
