With action and heat that will leave you breathless, For the Fight is the first book in the intoxicating Elite SWAT series by RITA® Award winning author, Leah Ashton.
She’s a cop who made one mistake. He’s a SWAT team operator who broke her heart.
The gunman holding them hostage? He’s got no idea who he’s dealing with...
Luella Brayshaw doesn’t think when she sees Nate Rivers, twelve years since he walked away. She just feels – all the hurt, and all the heat – and she runs. But by the time her brain clicks into gear she’s on a random train, with Nate – and that’s when it all goes very, very wrong.
Driven and dedicated, Elite SWAT tactical operator Nate Rivers knows he made the right decision all those years ago. Although it’s hard to remember why with Lou right in front of him, all strong, gorgeous and justifiably furious with him.
But then a gunman takes their carriage hostage… and suddenly the past doesn’t matter.
Now it’s up to Nate and Lou – unarmed - to save everyone on that train.
When their past and present collide, passion ignites – as hot and as powerful as a decade before. But can the mistakes of the past be forgiven? Or will they destroy any chance of a future together?
** For the Fight is the first book in the Elite SWAT series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliff-hanger endings. For the Fight was previously published as Undaunted (WASP Team #1).
For The Flight, book one in the Elite SWAT series by Leah Ashton. Twelve years ago, Nate Rivers broke Luella Brayshaw's heart when he broke up with her. So when she made a mistake, and they placed her in SWAT, she did not expect to see Nate and became a hostage on a moving train. However, that is what happened. The readers of For The Flight will continue to follow Nate and Luella to find out what happens.
For the Flight is the first book I have read by Leah Ashton and will not be the last. I engaged with For The Flight from the beginning and continued throughout this book. I enjoyed the way Leah Ashton portrayed her characters and their interaction with each other throughout this book. For the Flight was well written and researched by Leah Ashton. I like Leah Ashton's description of the settings of For the Flight, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
The readers of For the Flight will understand what drugs do to people, their families, and the community. Also, the readers of For the Flight will learn about the role of SWAT officers in the law enforcement community.
I loved this book, it kept me up til 2am, because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I was lucky enough to preorder a copy of this book last November at the WCFF, I've now read it twice as I didn't get my thoughts down after the first read, thinking I'd remember what I wanted to say.
Undaunted is the first in a new series, and a new direction for Leah Ashton, and I think she's on to a winner, I've already preordered book 2.
The WASP Team Series is a hot romantic suspense that had me on the edge, not only with the drama going on, but with the chemistry between police officer Luella Brayshaw and WASP operator Nate Rivers.
WASP has brought together every elite police department: tactical response, dignity protection, covert surveillance, bomb technicians, negotiators, snipers - and more - to protect Western Australia from crime.
At the end of a WASP training exercise Lou (Luella) and Nate end up on a train from Perth to Fremantle where they inadvertently stumble into a situation that will put them in danger and bring to the surface plenty of unresolved personal issues and tension between the two of them, the chemistry was sparking straight away.
I loved reading a book set in my home state, there are plenty set in the Eastern States or in country WA, but few in suburban Perth. I was right there on that train, travelling a trip I've done myself once or twice, luckily without an armed crazy man travelling with me.
Nate and Lou are great characters who are completely relatable, as was the backstory of their relationship over a decade previously which comes out as they remember what it was like between them and the way Nate broke Lou's heart.
A highly enjoyable read that grabbed me from the start.
3.5* . A romantic suspense we get both action and romance. The H and h both are law officers reunited through work after a seperation of just over a decade. I'm not a fan of long seperations yet here the h's strong animosity to the H is something I could relate to given how he'd ended their relationship. . It was refreshing to see how the H leaving isn't explained away is some ineffectual way, as it often is, to try and redeem the H. In this case the H realises he was weak, selfish and immature. This whole line of owning his faults slips with the 'I've always loved you' bit at the end. I could believe it on the h's part, not his. Her character while strongly drawn didn't stay strong. Still up to that point I enjoyed it.
This is a good second chance at love book. Luella or Lou as her friends called her, was ghosted by Nate when she was 21 after she told him she loved him. I understand how hurt Lou was and never wanted to see Nate again. Now 12 years later after she made a mistake at her police job, she is put over to the Elite Swat as a desk jock. She doesn’t start out on the desk, but as a substitute for an actor for the Elite Swat training exercise. I can understand her running when she sees Nate, but little does she realize he is part of the Elite Swat. This one action pushes them together and into some some dangerous situations. I enjoyed seeing how Nate’s eyes are open on what he did to Lou in the past. I enjoyed the book and encourage you to read it.
Well written storyline with excitement, fear, danger and a second chance romance. The main characters in this book have strong values and are extremely independent. When danger threatens Lou, Nate will do everything within his power to protect her. I enjoyed the book very much and highly recommend it.
While I enjoyed this story, it was very superficial and I didn't really feel like I got into the characters. They had too much history that was assumed that we knew, or we already invested in their story. I wasn't. I was more invested in the hijack than the characters.
I purchased the first three books in this series in a box set. I am reviewing individually.
Lou is on desk duty after being sidelined for an error in judgement. She's supposed to be on the desk of Elite Swat but somehow they have her being the 'target' in a training exercise. As such she decides to be the best target ever and manages to escape them at almost every turn. That is until she spots Nate and she takes the exercise a step further putting them in a difficult position.
Nate was following the target, he hadn't had a good look at her although as he watched her approach the train station he recognized the walk. He's surprised to realize Lou's his target. He doesn't understand why she's playing target when actors usually do that. He has no choice but to follow as she got on the train.
They are about to leave when a woman catches Lou's eye and they stop.
Being in a hostage situation out of uniform is not ideal, but these two are better prepared than most to handle it.
The tension and intensity of the situation is clear from the start and I loved the interactions between Lou and Nate. They have much to resolve but the chemistry between them is palpable.
I'm already starting the next book in this series.
Cop Luella Brayshaw just feels all of the hurt 12 years after SWAT team operator Nate Rivers walked away from her. But by the time she sees him on the train, everything starts to go very wrong. Nate knows he made the right decision all those years ago, but it is far to remember why when she is in front of him looking all strong, gorgeous and justifiably furious with him. When a gunman takes their carriage hostage the past doesn't matter as even though they are not armed they both have to work together to save everyone on the train. When the past and the present collide, passion ignites, but can the mistakes of the past be forgiven so they can have a future together?
I really enjoyed this story with the drama of the hostage situation, the history of their past, and how they handled both situations. Lou was strong and feisty and very focused on preserving life which given her history of a mistake was understandable. It was easy to read, feel and understand and I was totally on the side of Lou and Nate to save all those people as well as manage to sort out their relationship as they were obviously made for each other. Contains mature content.
Luella or Lou is a cop who has been sent to the Elite Swat after an incident. She is tasked with playing a terrorist and plant a fake bomb. Nate is a member of Elite Swat and Lou’s ex. Twelve years ago he up and left Lou without a word, after she said “ I love you “. Now he is in a training session and sees Lou is the one he’s after. She runs and jumps on a train after spotting Nate. When they both board the train, another couple gets on and something is wrong. The man holds the whole train hostage until he gets to see his kids. They must work together to get everyone safely off the train. Then someone else tries to shoot Lou and both of them have guards. Will Lou forgive Nate for breaking her heart? Fairly good story. Something about it wouldn’t hold my attention. There is a little suspense and action. Now I remember what I didn’t like- Lou kept jerking Nate around. She would have sex with him but then get mad when she did.
Lou thought she had hit rock bottom, self-doubt, self-recrimination and fear, only one thing could make it any worse....and yes, there he is...the man who crushed her heart over a decade ago. Her life has now spiralled totally out of control, she is in danger and has no idea who she can trust, no team to support her and no idea how to avoid Nate. Nate is once again knocked to his knees when he sees Lou, he had convinced himself he did the right thing twelve years ago but the moment he sees her again he knows he was wrong. She is his future but how can ever apologise? And will he ever be able to prove to her he is now ready for their love, old enough to know his own mind and more importantly his heart. This introduction to Elite SWAT is fast paced, packed with danger, with both sweet and sexy moments too. I read this on Kindle Unlimited and look forward to meeting the rest of the Elite SWAT Team.
This is the first in a series – and now I want to read the rest. This is an outstanding blend of suspense and romance, where the romantic backstory informs the situation, rather than overtaking it. While I enjoy romance in my books, I prefer the suspense to be at least as important, and that is definitely true here – not only in respect of the initial situation, but as the story progresses. Lou (Luella) is one of the most appealing female characters I’ve read for a while – strong, courageous, and flawed. The Australian setting is also a refreshing change, as are the different attitudes to the situation. So, the story is great, the characters are relatable and well-written, and the setting is good – definitely a book to buy.

This is about Lou and Nate it is a great action story with members of the Notechi MC trying to kill them. She is a street cop who made a mistake during a armed man threatening her and her partner. She's then sent to The Wasp until she goes through handgun training again. While working as a fake bomber during the Wasp training she runs into her ex who she realizes is now with The Wasp unit. During this time they are involved in a hostage situation and a member of the Notechi MC is killed. The media catches her face and puts it out there that she was involved in the take down. This is a really great story that keeps you guessing what going to happen next. And the Heat between Lou and Nate sizzles.

I love Lou and Nate. I love this second chance romance. They meet again because of a practice of tracking a criminal with a bomb. She is playing the criminal. But when she sees Nate she gets on a train when she not suppose to. They get stuck on it and taken hostage. Because of this she is targeted by the gang the guy who took them hostage belong to. She learns Nate did not leave her years ago because he did not love her while she loved him. But I think he was immature to not leave a note. Now he wants a second chance, will she give him one? They are hot together. I loved how she figured out she can trust herself in a dangerous situation.

Nate and Luella were completely infatuated with each 12 years ago. They spent all their time together until Lue told Nate she loved him and he snuck out in the night and ignored all attempts to contact him. Fast forward and Lue is standing in for an actress as part of an Elite Swat training exercise when she realises Nate is part of that team, panics and jumps on a train to avoid him. They then end up in a real hostage situation. After working together trapped in a train with a gun waving man each of them is forced to confront their feelings and the decisions they made both in the past and since. A beautiful story with the raw emotions of both people written so well alongside the action scenes. Loved it.
She’s a cop who made one mistake. He’s a tactical operator who broke her heart. The gunman holding them hostage? He’s got no idea who he’s dealing with...
Book one in the series and I can't wait to read more! The perfect blend of romance and suspense in the story line. Add in drama and some tense moments and you have the makings of a perfect romantic suspense story that's a definite page turner.
Each book in the exhilarating WASP Team Series is a standalone romance with lots of heat and no cliffhangers, and they can be read in any order.

Luella is a police officer who made a mistake while working and ended up having to take a desk job with Elite Swat. She was sent on an assignment and was unaware she was being followed by someone familiar. Nate was an Elite SWAT officer whom Luella had an affair with twelve years ago. Things ended when he disappeared one night without a word, leaving Lou heartbroken. When Lou found herself in a crisis, Nate was determined to do all he could to protect her. This was an entertaining read with drama and suspense.

A hesitation on the job has left cop Luella now stuck as a desk jockey at Elite SWAT until she is allowed back to her normal job, just when she thought that was bad enough the guy that broke her heart years ago has turned up during a practice undercover operation (and he looks better than ever!). Things go from bad to worse from there but now is the chance to find out what really happened years ago to make Nate walk away, but they also have to deal with guns, kidnappings, a lot of feelings and keeping alive in order to see what they want now.

Another waste of time book. The blurb describing the book's contents isn't very forthcoming. It did sound like an interesting book but in reality, it wasn't very good at all. Too little time spent on actual police work and far too much time spent on their messed up relationship! Any time I read a book with f-bombs coming faster than the bad guys bullets, I know the author really ran of words to use. Books like this need to come with a scratch-off strip to see what things smell like between the covers. If that were the case here, one would hurriedly drop it and start checking the bottom of one's shoes. Bad enough to ensure I will never read another of her books!
Two law enforcement members had a relationship and when emotions got real one ghosted the other. 12 years pass and they met again via work. This story tells how their initial meeting and then catching up takes place. The story is a quick read with some sweet moments. It is predictable in the HEA. Other members of the essay are briefly mentioned so I assume that is who the series will follow.
If you like quick and light reads with steamy scenes check this book out.
A very good read. The book only covers about 10 days of Lou & Nate's lives, but with plenty of back history, you can feel the connection. It was a good action, love story. I give it a four just because some things that happen between them is a little unbelievable. Such as, Lou jumping him within hours of running into him after 12 years of hating him for what he did. The story does have an HEA, but ends a little abruptly. An epilogue would have been a nice touch, but a good read all-in-all. I enjoyed it.
This book is fantastic with well developed characters and engaging storyline that grabs your attention with all the drama and suspense not to mention the chemistry between them. Will they take the second chance that has been give them in the mist of all the dangers that surround them. I could not put this down until I get the answer.

Love the book,it is a page turner. Suspense, second chance romance at the best. Luella and Nate separate twelve years ago, after he just disappear like a ghost. She move on but in reality she didn’t. When theirs path cross and find themselves in hostage situation everything is back in force they can’t ignore. They will try...12 years to forget and forgive.

I found this to be a superb storyline that grabs you right from the start keeping you engrossed and on edge throughout the whole book!
Great characters that will keep your interest extremely well. The chemistry, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things interesting. Add in drama and steamy passion and you have a good read.

I received a copy of this book from voracious readers and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoyed the complexity of each character and their backgrounds. I also liked the development of Lou and how she became stronger throughout the story. The plot was very interesting and evocative, it was also simple enough to understand without a problem but complex enough to not be boring. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romances with amazing erotic scenes.
Twelve years ago Luella Brayshaw told Nate Rivers she loved him and he ran away. He never expected their next meeting to come courtesy of a hostage situation on a train. Now this Elite SWAT tactical operator has a second chance to make things right. If he can keep them both alive that is. Excellent introductory book to the series with a likeable but flawed hero seeking redemption for his past mistakes. And a gutsy heroine determined to not let him.
These two are definitely meant to be if after 12 years they fall right back into one another. Life is crazy like that though. What was going on then isn’t now and feelings change over time or they don’t. Apparently it didn’t with these two and the chaos that came along with the day they’re reunited definitely pulled a fast one on them. Loved the story and can’t wait for more.
In "For the Fight" (Elite Swat, #1) by Leah Ashton, Lou and Nate find themselves trapped on a carriage with an armed gunman in a life in a life or death struggle. Later they find feelings rekindled from 12 years ago when they were at the academy together. I really enjoyed the characters of Lou and Nate and find that find that in people that separate and come back together, Ashton describes these feelings well. I also found it interesting learning about Australian police procedure and gun law.
At first the book was not holding my interest, and I'm avid reader, I love to read. But I told myself give it a chance. So I kept reading . I found the book was very good and interesting. I think what threw me was the wording was different along with the setting . So I thought of the movie crocodile dundee. lol !! And after that it was smooth sailing so to speak. Great read
