Maisy Turner and I had been butting heads since we were five years old. That girl knew every one of my buttons and loved to push 'em. Folks like to say that we have a love/hate relationship, but I've never felt much of the love...from her side, anyway.
So when I got roped into working side by side with her, I was expecting sparks to fly--I just thought they'd be from us rubbing each other the wrong way, not the right one...
When scandal broke in Wishing Well and I was called in to right the wrongs, I jumped at the chance to step up and finally be seen as an individual, and not just, "one of the Turner triplets." I was prepared to do whatever it took to advance my career and stand on my own two feet...even if it meant working side by side with the only person in town I couldn't stand.
Bentley Calhoun had been a thorn in my side since kindergarten. He was like a rash that wouldn't go away--an annoying itch that drove me crazy. Problem with itches was, it felt so good to scratch 'em.
NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, heroes who are cinnamon rolls in the streets alpho-holes in the sheets, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.
This is such a good book. I can’t even begin to understand how it feels to be a triplet. Maisy has always wanted to be seen for herself, not as one of the triplets. I loved how she is such a perfectionist. Sometimes though she can’t see what is in front of her. Bentley is a heartthrob that is so caring, but Maisy can’t seem to see it. It was fun hearing their story from when they were children and how Maisy looked at the things Bentley did and how different Bentley looked at them. It was funny to listen to the two go back and forth with each other with digs. I was surprised by Bentley’s ex girlfriend and how their relationship ended. Bentley is such a good guy that you can’t help but love him. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
I love going back to Wishing Well, Texas. I loved Bentley and Maisy's story. I think it's because they had known each other so long without realizing just what was between them.
Borrowing Bentley is the 9th book in Melanie Shawn’s Wishing Well Texas series. It’s been over 2 years (March 2018) since the last book in the series Unwrapping Jade, was published. So returning to Wishing Well felt sort of like returning to a place that felt somewhat familiar but not so familiar that I could find my way around without a GPS. Or like when you run into someone and their face looks familiar but you can’t remember their name. I remembered some of the secondary characters in this book like our female lead Maisy Turner’s younger sister Dalilah but not that Dalilah had triplet older sisters. I remembered our male lead Bentley Calhoun’s best friend Travis Briggs and his wife Mia and Bryson the owner of the Tipsy Cow, but not a whole lot about any of their stories. As for Bentley himself, I can’t recall if he and his older brother Bradley or his younger twin sisters even appeared in previous books in the series or if their brand new additions for future stories. Melanie and Shawna the sister authors of this series have published multiple books in other series over the two years since Unwrapping Jade was published. Many successful highly prolific authors do this. They have multiple series running in parallel. And while I enjoy reading other books in other series, it’s a bit frustrating for me as a reader to return to a series after a long lag where I’ve read dozens of other books in the interim and feel that sense of connection of the characters from previous books in the series. Fortunately Finding Bentley can easily be read as a standalone. In fact it may be better enjoyed if you haven’t read the other books in the series because then unlike me you won’t be racking your brain trying to remember the back stories on the secondary characters. This book is a good addition to the series. The main characters Maisy and Bentley are well developed and likable. I loved the little sayings from Gramma Turner that each chapter began with. The secondary characters whether they were new or from other stories helped flesh out this story. The issues that Maisy and Bentley had to overcome were not unbelievable. Much of it was just poor communication. They were complete opposites in personalities. Maisy was a color within the lines type while Bentley didn’t even see the lines. Bentley fell in love with Maisy the first time he saw her as a five year old on the school playground. But unfortunately, all of his childish and adolescent attempts to win her affection backfired until by high school they had developed a full blown frenemy like relationship where Bentley took great pleasure in doing things to annoy Maisy just to see her well formed unflappable façade crack and get a reaction from her. Bentley was the only person who could make Maisy swear. Now at almost 30 years old they are forced by circumstances to work together to solve Wishing Wells financial problems after the previous mayor and city planner had absconded with millions of the town’s money. I liked how being forced to work together each discovered sides about the other they didn’t know even though they’d known each other their entire lives. Those discoveries made them see and appreciate each other in a new more favorable light. Add to that the explosive chemistry that had always existed between them and it was only a matter of time before these two got together with enough heat to burn the town down. I loved how Bentley was able to bring out perpetual good girl Maisy’s naughty side when they got naked.
WHAT A GREAT WAY TO TAKE US BACK TO WISHING WELL, TX!!!
Melanie Shawn takes us back to Wishing Well, TX in the 9th book of the series. It has been awhile since we have heard what is going on there and Borrowing Bentley was a fantastic way to go! This enemies-to-lovers story has now become my favorite.
Maisy Turner is one of the three "Turner Triplets" and prefers to pave her own way and be know for things other than being one of the triplets. She is a rule follower, a by the book girl and is still trying to make a name for herself even in her late 20's. While she loves her sisters she wants to be as individual from them as she can. She gets the chance to show who she is and what she can do when there is a scandal within the city and she is promoted to fix the wrong that has been done. She is ready to jump right in but a small little wrench is thrown in her way and he goes by the name of Bentley Calhoun.
Bentley Calhoun, a detective, has been on leave after a hostage situation gone wrong. He wants nothing more than to get back on the job but is at the mercy of his therapist signing off on his return. When the scandal happens his boss "loans" him out to the acting mayor to help fix the aftermath of said scandal. For him it is an opportunity he looks forward to because of Maisy Turner.
Maisy and Bentley have grown up together in the same town and they are pretty much sworn enemies...literally the whole town knows of their hatred towards each other. It seems no matter what Bentley has always found a way to ruin everything for Maisy, or so she thinks. When the two of them are thrown together she is not happy about it at all but she soon starts learning things about Bentley that she didn't know...he is not what she thought. We soon learn that for these two, and the events that have occurred over the years, it was more a case of each other mistaking the others actions for many, many years.
The relationship between Bentley and Maisy was so enjoyable to read. The bantering between the two of them completely rivals the romantic tension with perfect balance. The chain of events that brings them together was so touching at times. Once again the author duo of Melanie Shawn has written a story that just reaches out and grabs the reader's attention and makes us feel what the characters are feeling.
This book is the 9th in Melanie Shawn’s Wishing Well series. I have read previous books, but this book reads like a stand alone. I don’t believe you will be confused at all if you haven’t read the previous books (although you really should because they are good too!)
Maisy is one of the Turner Triplets, and she’s struggled to prove her independence and unique identity her whole life. Most people mistake one triplet for another, or think of them as a unit. She now has been given the city planner job on the heals of a scandal and the interim mayor needing to fill the position and figure out what happened. Maisy can’t wait!
Bentley is working through a situation with his previous police assignment and he’s been on leave while a therapist determines his readiness for redeployment. He’s bored and spends time wasting it, getting drunk, and wallowing in his misery. Now he’s been demanded to work with the new mayor on a task force to determined what happened with the scandal. And he needs to work on that team with Maisy! He is looking forward to pushing all her buttons as he’s done since they were 5 years old!
Now Maisy is not looking forward to her new job! Bentley is irresponsible and a flirt and they are the only two on the task force? But she soon learns she was totally wrong about Bentley, and he learns to push new buttons!
I enjoyed this book! I felt the characters’ viewpoints show how lack of communication and assumptions have built their current relationship. And how communication and really opening their minds helped them see they were made for each other.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Bentley and Maisy have always treated each other differently than they ever treated anyone else. Bentley just didn't like Maisy, while Maisy kept thinking back to the torment she received as they were kids, especially that kiss back in high school where he called her by her triplet sister's name afterward.
Bentley has been put on administrative leave after getting shot on the job. Maisy was promoted to City Manager after the former City Manager and Mayor had an affair and embezzled over a million dollars from the town. Her first task on her new job was to work alongside Bentley to find how the money was embezzled and have a plan on how they can recover or at least replace the money that the town was depending upon.
With both of these two in the same office, the sparks were flying. I loved the interaction between the two. He learned all about her while in the cramped quarters while she also learned a lot about him. Both had to reevaluate their opinions of each other as they worked aside each other to get the new job done.
I would have loved to have seen him open up to Maisy about why he is so closed off. She learned about the past, but she didn't learn all of it. We as readers found out, but she didn't and I think that it would have explained a lot more about his motivations for some of his past decisions. I also would have loved to have read about Brady owning up to his part in the past rather than it just being swept under the rug and him getting away with his actions.
I loved reading Maisy and Bentley’s story, Borrowing Bentley by the amazing Melanie Shawn, the ninth book in their Wishing Well Texas series. These two have been butting heads since they were in kindergarten. It’s a reminder of that fine line between love and hate. When these two “enemies” are forced to work together everyone expected fireworks; the not get along kind rather than the falling in love ones. Maisy just wanted to be seen as an individual, not as “one of the Turner triplets.” Bentley was the only person who, outside the family, who could pick out Maisy from her identical sisters and she was the only one who could push his buttons. Getting forced to work with her Bentley knew they would clash, but these two were in for a surprise of off the charts chemistry, and a dislike that turned into a volcanic-like like that shocked them. These two enemies quickly crossed the line from what they surmised was hate into wanting to burn the sheets off the bed.
Melanie Shawn wrote an amazing slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, workplace romance served with a big helping of meddling family and friends, a small-town scandal, with a side of hot southern nights that should not be missed. They provided a tale full of sizzling chemistry, humor, and endearing characters giving Maisey and Bentley a happy ever after future together. I highly recommend Borrowing Bentley to other readers and look forward to the next story in the Wishing Well series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Once again this dynamic duo gives the reader a story that is touching, funny, heartwarming and just plain wonderful. Bentley Calhoun and Maisy (Daisy with an M) Turner, have been driving each other crazy since they were 5 years old. She the goody two shoe, always following the rules, and he the daredevil charmer, coloring outside the lines. Years later, now a detective, Bentley is put on mandatory leave after his last case, Bentley finds himself working alongside Maisy to find out how the previous mayor had embezzled the town. Watching these two together was like watching fireworks going haywire. But it also was at fun and sweet . Both had issues and though they seemed like total opposites , their love for their family and friends was undeniable. Will these two “enemies” find out they truly complement each other? Or will the past keep them apart? Another winner for this talented authors. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I love Wishing Well! Its one of my favorite storybook places! Borrowing Bentley is the ninth story in the Wishing Well Texas series by Melanie Shawn. It follows one of the Turner Triplets - Maisy and Bentley Calhoun.
Maisy is a type A. Always on time, always follows the rules, and doesn't like Bentley Calhoun. While he seems like a nice guy to everyone else, for some reason he has just never been to her. When Maisy and Bentley are forced to work together for the town will their closeness shed a different light on their interactions?
Bentley is fun. He does a lot for his community, is a law enforcement officer, and volunteers when he can. Something has always eluded him about Maisy though. He's drawn to her, but loves to push her buttons.
Can Bentley and Maisy get along long enough to help out the town? Or will they tear each other apart first? The town of Wishing Well is taking bets! I loved Bentley and Maisy and cannot wait for more from Wishing Well!
Oh Bentley, how I need one of you in my life. Bentley and Maisy met in kindergarten. As soon as Bentley seen Maisy, he started trying to get her attention, to bad the couple things he did only aggravated and made her not like him. Since then, they have always had a dislike for each other. All through school they have argued and gave each other a hard time. Then out of the blue, one day in high school Bentley kiss Maisy, but then called her by one of her sister’s names (Maisy is a triplet). Bentley knew the whole time who he kissed and had meant to kiss her but called her a different name anyway. So of course she could not stand him. Skip ahead many years and tons of barbs later, you have two hard working adults that still dislike each other. Bentley is on medical leave and Maisy is taking over a job that she got because the previous person embezzled money. The mayor decides to use both Maisy and Bentley for a special project. Try and find how the two people were able to embezzle the money. Of course, neither Bentley or Maisy is happy about having to work together. This book was really good. You will read about how all of the tension, barbs and dislike was an underlying for the feelings these two have for each other and how all the barbs were actually foreplay between the two. You will finish reading this book and want a Bentley of your own. Excellent read.
So glad these authors brought back the Wishing Well series! Maisy has lived her life in the shadow of her sisters after being part of the local triplets. When the scandal hits the town it gives her the opportunity to prove to the town that she can stand on her own and be separate from her sisters. Bentley is currently on leave from his job with the police department after a difficult case for him wraps up. Struggling to get cleared to go back to work, he finds out he’s picked for a project to figure out what exactly happened within the scandal. Maisy and Bentley have always had back and forth banter and situations throughout childhood and have run into adulthood, and when they find out they’re working together it’s combustible because of the chemistry they have together. Through working together, they find out the root of their issues being the attraction between them. I loved getting to know Maisy and her feelings toward being her own person within the town of Wishing Well. I was so extremely happy that these authors brought this series back and I hope we get more! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I really enjoyed our visit to Wishing Well and of course spending time with Maisy and Bentley. These two were such great characters especially with their banter and chemistry. It was fun to have their past ‘friendship’ weave throughout the book. I also loved all of Granny Turner’s advice at the beginning of every chapter, what a fun addition to the story. The project was a perfect opportunity for these two to work together and who knows what might come out of working closely together. This was just a great book from beginning to end and the apology lane scavenger hunt at the end of the book, was so awesome for these two, especially with what came at the end. My favorite Granny Turner advice is, “When life seems too good to be true, pour some sweet tea and enjoy it”. This book definitely made me miss Wishing Well and I need to go back to the beginning and re-read this great series.
Aw, I'm in happy bubble right now, I loved Mase (Maisy) and Bentley, the fire and hate and that thin thin line they finally crossed. OMG the build up was intense, but I think what finally for me was the ending had me smiling like a kid at Christmas. Seriously I can't wipe it face of I tried. This is book 9 in the Wishing Well series and it releases on the 24th of May it can be read as a stand alone so read it now and go back to visit some of the other amazing people you see in this books Melanie Shawn you guys have create another perfect world to get lost in
Another amazing story from the sister duo Melanie and Shawn. This book would have to be my favourite so far out of ALL the books that have written not just in the Wishing Well series!
Borrowing Bentley is book 9 in the Wishing Well series but can be read as a stand alone book that has a HEA and is super hot.
Maisy and Bentley really burn up the pages and have amazing chemistry.
I loved, loved this book and would highly recommend.
I received an ARC of Borrowing Bentley and this is my voluntary honest review.
This was my favourite trope, enemies to lovers and Melanie Shawn rocked this one out of the park!! Definitely could not put this book down once I started!! Bentley and Maisy's story had many twists and turns and loads of emotions that you could not help but feeling!! Love this town, the people and especially this couple!! Love the Turner Sisters and Bentley's brothers and sister!! Can not wait to see their story!! Run out now and get this book!! It is a stand alone and has all the feels that you are looking for!! Also FYI this book is steamy HOT!!! Bentley is now my most favourite hero!!!
Borrowing Bentley is the ninth book in the Wishing Well series by the writing duo, Melanie Shawn. While this is part of a series, you won't have any issues if this is the first book in the series you pick up.
Maisy Turner is all grown up and because of a scandal that has hit her small Texas town, she might actually have a chance to prove that she's an individual and not just one of the "Turner Triplets". While she loves her sisters, she either got mistaken for one of them or lumped together as a threesome instead of three individuals. She's got the opportunity now to advance her career and she couldn't be more excited. Well, that's until she learns who she has to work with.
Bentley Calhoun is currently on leave from the police department due to a shooting during a case he was assisting with. He's working toward getting back on active duty, but that's all left in the hands of the shrink he's seeing weekly. He couldn't be more surprised when he's summonsed to the mayor's office and told that he's going to be working on a committee to help figure out the scandal that has just broken. Oh and the committee has a total of two members; himself and Maisy Turner.
Bentley and Maisy have quite the history dating back when they were five years old. They know how to push one another's buttons and they don't get along in general. Will these two be able to put the past behind them in order to solve the problem? Or will the fact that they are working so closely together make them see things they may not have seen before?
Maisy and Bentley definitely had mad chemistry. The way they were able to poke and prod at one another was amusing. I also really enjoyed how we got their backstory from both perspectives which gave the story a lot of richness. I appreciated that it wasn't just glossed over. This was a light, enjoyable read and one that was a breath of fresh air.
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
Borrowing Bentley is one of those books that I could not put down. Once I started it, I had to see how it ended. Bentley and Maisy have known each other for years, but as a triplet, Maisy has gone through her own struggle with finding her own identity and thinks Bentley had confused her with one of her sisters. I enjoyed watching the back and forth between the two of them - but I was a little disappointed that it took them so long to figure it out. I LOVED the end of the book where Bentley really showed Maisy that he knew who she was the entire time. I can't wait to see the next book in this series.
Borrowing Bentley was another great book by Melanie Shawn. I love their (if you don't already know, they are a sister writing team) writing style. The fact that Maisy and Bentley grew up together basically hating each other, but not really, was entertaining. It was fun to watch how the "hatred" turned into heat. If you think Melanie Shawn books are just your run of the mill romance novels, you would be wrong. They always seem to throw in a twist you're not quite expecting to make the story even more interesting. I've loved all of the Wishing Well series and this one is no exception. I'm excited for the next one to come out. I hope we don't leave Wishing Well for a long time.
The chemistry between Maisy Turner and Bently Calhoun is evident from the first pages of this lively read. We teach our little girls that boys pick on them because they like them – and that has been true for Bently since he saw Maisy on the first day of kindergarten. But like many little boys his efforts to get her attention were disasters to a young girl. When Bently is asked to help his community while out of active duty and Maisy is instantly promoted during a scandal – the two must learn to work together rather than antagonizing each other every chance they can. Throw in a small office they are forced to share, a locked building and the fun heats up. This was a fun read from start to finish and I truly enjoyed it!
OMG I loved granny turner, her quotes at the beginning of each chapter had me cracking up. If two people were ever made for each other it was Maisy and Bentley. For the first day of school until the scavenger hunt Bentley does what ever he can to help ( or he tries mostly unsuccessfully) Maisy, these two seem like oil and water until you understand it’s just foreplay. Loved this trip back to wishing well.
Borrowing Bentley was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I went from smiling at their love hate relationship to crying when the story took a turn to the emotional side. And all the while fanning myself with their hotness together! Bentley and Daisy with an M have known each other pretty much all their lives. Bentley was always doing his best to rile Maisy growing up. Her grandma even had a saying for their relationship “the line between love and hate disappears real quick with a lust eraser.” Looks like they have been building up for years. It’s a great explosion to watch unfold!
Daisy with and M and Bentley’s story is a must read. Enemies since they were a child get thrown together to work for the City. Maisy can’t believe she has to work with him and finds herself having dreams of their first kiss. Bentley is attracted to Maisy and has been since he was 5 but they have been enemies since then to.
I really enjoyed the story and couldn’t put the book down. Looking forward to the next book.
Bentley Calhoun and Maisy Turner (one of the Turner triplets) have been archenemies since they were 5 years old. No matter what the occasion, Bentley caused trouble for Maisy. Maisy was a “good-2-shoes” and Bentley was pretty much the antithesis of Maisy. Suddenly, because of a local scandal, Bentley and Maisy end up on a task force together to solve the mystery and fix the city budget. So much togetherness often has a way of changing people’s perceptions of each other. What neither of them realized was the “pushing of each other’s buttons” was really decades of foreplay.
This was a delightful book. I immediately loved both characters. Maisy worked so hard to always do the right thing, and it appeared that Bentley always worked so hard to always to the wrong thing. Opposites really do attract!
Always fun to go back to Wishing Well. Bentley and Maisy are the latest couple in Wishing Well and let's just say they never expected to be a couple. They have a very strong dislike for one another. If they are annoyed that means the other one is usually involved. Now forced to work together to bring the towns finances back in check they are certain to stir up some good gossip. This book will have you laughing, worrying, and hurrying to flip pages to the end.
This is such a good book! I really enjoyed reading it! It's an engaging, funny, sexy & moving romance. It is about two people that have known each since they were 5 yrs. old. To this day they do not like each other. But now they've been forced to spend time together. Who will survive? Bentley ❤ Maisey, steal your heart from the very first pages to the last. Must Read Story!!
This was such an amazing book. There is nothing I love more than an enemies to lovers book.
This box ticked all my boxes: enemies to lovers ✔️ Slow burn ✔️ Sexy talking hero ✔️
I could go on but where is the fun in that. I loved the community in all of Melanie Shawn’s books especially Wishing Well, Tx. If you like small town sexy enemies to lovers forced to work together books you’ll love this one too!
I have really missed the Wishing Well books. It was such a nice surprise to see this book in my inbox. Maisey and Bentley have a really long history and they honestly do not like each other. There is definite spark of chemistry whenever they are together. I just loved the back and forth between these two. Melanie Shawn did a really amazing job of telling this story. Trust me you will not want to miss any of it. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Maisy and Bentley have had a love-hate relationship since they were 5 years old. They can’t help but push each other’s buttons. Now forced to work together on a project, they are seeing different sides of the other, experiencing feelings they don’t know how to handle. Maisy and Bentley are just adorable and their story is so cute, that I was ready to start it again after The End. combustible chemistry and super amusing banter make this a delightful read and a superb addition to the Wishing Well series.
Returning to Wishing Well was an enjoyable trip. Maisey and Bentley sure had a spitfire of a relationship. Their journey was filled with laughter, snark, and conflicting memories. Another great escape from you ladies to lighten my day. ❤️ I received this ARC for an honest review.
