The Masons #3

Baby Daddy Wanted

Rate this book
Who knew picking a baby daddy could be so much fun?

Maeve's ready to have a baby, but when she's dumped on New Year's Eve by yet another tire kicker, she decides to stop waiting around for Prince Charming and start looking for a sperm donor. But as Maeve soon learns, picking a baby daddy is no easy task...

Finn

The stunning brunette perched on my favorite barstool has baby fever.

It’s one of the first things she tells me when I sit beside her after playing my set. She’s also just been dumped, but it’s her Scotch that tells me that.

Talk about a bundle of baggage a bachelor like me doesn’t need in his life.

Yet there’s something about her that intrigues me, something that makes me believe she’d completely unravel if I could just find the thread that has her so tightly wound.

But she doesn’t give me the chance.

She dashes out before midnight like a fairytale princess with a pumpkin to catch.

She’ll be back, though. Not because I’m a suitable donor, but because I’m going to help her find one.

It’s the perfect arrangement.

We’ll flirt, have some filthy fun, and when she finds a baby daddy that meets her sky-high standards, I’ll bow out gracefully. No mess. No fuss. No feelings.

What could possibly go wrong?

Baby Daddy Wanted is a standalone romantic comedy full of humor, heat, and heart. No cheating, no cliffhanger. Just lots of witty banter, sexy surprises, and a happy ending that delivers.

Maeve Mason has accomplished many things, but the one box she hasn’t checked is motherhood. When she finds out ‘capable’ isn’t a compliment, she seeks solace at the nearest bar.

Of all the bars in town, Finn isn’t expecting to find a girlfriend at his own. He doesn’t even want one. A laid back musician, he’s perfectly content with his life till meeting Maeve makes him want more.

Told via their dual alternating first person POV, I found Maeve and Finn both likeable, mature adults. Their flirting was fun to read, and it was easy to see that Finn was a keeper with his relaxed demeanor and witty personality.
“‘It’s my new deodorant. Makes me smell great and sound cleverer than I am.’”

I would let my hair down for Finn too cause when that happens things heat up. Finn didn’t disappoint when it comes to his moves and their sexy times.
“She looked at me from under heavy eyelids like I had her heart in my hands instead of her thighs, and my lower body began to boil.”

Their encounters were well written, and I craved a little more of them.
“...her every shallow breath was all the melodies I’d failed to write, beautiful and mysterious and just beyond my grasp.”

These two opposites complimented each other well, and were exactly what the other needed. I only wish Finn’s realization would have come with a little more epic moment. But otherwise, I appreciated the low-angst nature of the romance for a relaxing afternoon read.

Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Otis. He was a cute addition to the story.

Just when I think Hazel is at the top of her game she brings out a new one that blows the others out the water.
Maeve is strong, independent and desperate to have a baby. After being dumped on New Years eve she slips away to a bar to feel anything other than what she's feeling now. Handsome bachelor Finn is playing his usual set on New Year when he spots a beautiful woman sitting in his seat at the bar. The pair strike up a conversation where Maeve blurts out that she wants a baby. After a mild flirtation the pair end up on a date and Finn agrees to help her choose her new baby Daddy. Trouble is the pair don't realise how difficult that choice is going to be in so many ways.
OK let me start by saying I think Finn is my new book boyfriend! This book has got everything I love in a good romance. A spunky, strong willed leading lady who knows what she wants and doesn't take any crap and a handsome, funny musician. Need I say more?! I am a real sucker for a romance that involves music so this book was totally my jam. The banter between Maeve and Finn was great it was such an easy wit that they bounced off each other effortlessly. It was jam packed with passion, humour, heartache and drama. This is definatley my new favourite and a perfect end to the Mason trilogy.

This was a good read. Maeve is at the point in her life where she wants a family. She thinks she is all set to go but then Finn comes along. Needless to say, this man turns her world upside down. Thankfully in the end they both get everything they want and are happy.

I think Hazel saved the best for last in this series. I loved all the books, but this one had me swooning so much. Throughout the books we meet Maeve, the oldest of the Mason family. She's the one who grew up fast when her parents divorced and decided she wanted to be able to take care of herself. She's an independent workaholic, a loving sister and daughter. For a while now she has been wanting to start a family more than anything and has a plan seeing she's striking out in the love department. After getting dumped on New Year's Eve she enters a local bar and meets Finn. He's a musician - who's fun, sweet, somewhat insecure, bossy in a good way, loving, thoughtful and the list goes on. These two were absolutely made for each other. They each brought out the best from the other. I loved this opposites attract standalone so much and oh how I loved Finn!!!

*happy sigh.....

I'm long time reader of Hazel's work and she never disappoints! I don't even read the blurb when she releases a new book! 😊

This is the story of Meave and Finn - she's a workaholic homebody with baby fever, has got dumped by a selfish plank on new years eve, she stops in at the first bar she sees which is when Finn appears, he's single, plays music at the bar, has a cute dog and is a nice easy going fun flirty guy! And this is a case of opposites attract, but how long can it last when they both want different things....?

A heartwarming sweet and sexy story with two very likable characters that made me smile 😁 thoroughly enjoyed and definitely recommend! 4.5

I received this book via Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my own.

I read the previous installments on this series by Ms Hazel. This was a nice wrap up book. The characters were nicely fleshed out and realistic. The plot was fun and an easy read. I enjoyed it a lot and will look for more by this author.

Cute.

It’s a cute read. There’s a lot of talk about ‘other people I’ve been with’ from both parties throughout the book but more so from the H which sucks because he’s a really great guy. The h is written perfectly. Strong, independent and waits for no man. Fun, absolutely no angst and dare I say ‘quirky’. Would recommend for ‘in between reads’.

Addictive
This is one of those stories that pulls you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let you go until the very end. Meave and Finn are marvelous characters in their personas as well as their relationship. She was a real “go getter” both professionally and personally, while he seemed more laid back and ready to help. How they end up together is cleverly plotted by Ms. Kelly so that every single detail is not only logical but often times funny. This is why I can always count on her for a terrific reading experience.

Maeve has baby fever. After another year wasted on guy who just dumped her on NYE, she has decided to go it alone. With a binder full of potential sperm donors, it’s time to whittle the list down to one winning candidate. Cue the meet-cute.
She has some high level flirting with lovely Finn, a local musician she meets in a bar. Being upfront about her rebound status, and her determination to be knocked up as soon as possible, Maeve feels sure that she can have some filthy fun in the meantime with no strings. Plus Finn has agreed to give her a mans perspective on the donors and help her find her future baby daddy. What could go wrong with that!
I adore Maeve and Finn. But then I have to admit that there are very few characters that Hazel has created that I don’t love. The Masons series has given us some wonderful new boys to fall for. I loved seeing them make a brief reappearance in this one too. Finn has a fun, good-natured, and flirty vibe that is instantly appealing. I love the complexity of the relationship with his twin. And when he meets Maeve there is an intensity and chemistry that just leaps off the page. I love the groundhog day scene in the kitchen with the very intense sister interrogation. The internal conflict when Finn goes and catches feelings is very amusing and a little frustrating. I wanted to yell “just go get her you fool”. Especially when she was at the doctors office for her insemination appointment. Tense moment.
It is heartfelt, sweet, tender, and all kinds of hot too. While I will freely admit that I hate the term baby-daddy, all is forgiven because this romance has everything. Even an underwear eating dog!

Hazel Kelly, ‘Baby Daddy Wanted’.

As an Hidden Gems ARC reader I received a free copy and promised an honest review. Here it is.

Rating: 5 (of 5 stars).

In general: Feeling vs Reason.

Main characters:
- Maeve.
She’s an ambitious successful, workaholic. But Maeve feels her biological clock ticking. She wants a baby, but her friend Kurt is not interested in becoming a dad. When they have a date for a New Year’s party, he breaks up with her during a phone call, accusing her of being ‘too bossy’.

- Finn.
He was a very successful guitar player in a band with his twin brother Max. But he had to help his brother too often out of problems (Max couldn’t deal with being a celebrity), he left the band. Now he lives from his royalties and sometimes performs in the bar he owns with his friend Brian or gives free guitar lessons to kids. He enjoys this relaxed way of life much more than being in the spotlights.

After the break up at New Years Eve, Maeve needs a drink and enters the bar where Finn performs. They sit together on the bar and talk. Immediately there’s a click; not only a physical attraction but also a funny, sparkling conversation. Finn cleverly convinces at a second meeting a reluctant Maeve that she needs a date with him. And that he wants to help her choosing a donor for an artificial insemination.
Then the author, Hazel Kelly, describes how they become friends with benefits ending in a HEA.
The plot is funny and sensitive at the same time. The dialogues are sassy, intelligent and credible. Great main characters and the additional characters were engaging and sympathetic too. For me it was very enjoyable to read this novel.

Maeve’s dated a coworker who looked good on paper but, was definitely not good enough for her. Maeve wasted a year of her life on him and he breaks up with her on New Years Eve for a stupid reason over the cell phone while she is waiting for him to arrive to a party. Maeve walks to a nearby bar and decides to have a couple drinks to think about not putting off being a mom anymore before calling it a night and going home. Maeve meets Finn, a gorgeous musician who had performed a set there that night. Finn and Maeve have a drink together and flirt for a while. Finn says he’s going to save his New Years kiss for her and his New Years Resolution is to get her phone number. When Maeve leaves she forgets her cashmere scarf behind. Finn takes it for safe keeping hoping to see her again. Finn owns the bar with his best friend too. So, when Maeve calls the next day looking for her scarf Finn gets her phone number faster than he thought. Finn takes Maeve out to dinner and to watch a favorite movie of his. Maeve reveals she is not wasting anymore time on her dreams of being a mom. She is going to use a sperm donor. Finn isn’t ready to stop seeing this amazing woman so he finds himself saying he will help Maeve find a good candidate for her. Soon Finn and Maeve are spending all their time together and no one is sharing their feelings. Soon the insemination date is almost here. A really great read! Finn is a character to swoon over!

I was a bit hesitant to pick up Hazel Kelly's "Baby Daddy Wanted" because the title seemed more appropriate for a cheesy 80s category romance, but I'm glad I gave this book a shot because I ended up enjoying it. I didn't know that it was the third book in a series before I started reading, and it took me a few chapters to figure out how all of the characters were connected to each other, but the book still works fairly well as a standalone. That said, readers who have already picked up the earlier books in the series will likely find it easier to follow the story in the first few chapters.

The main characters of this story, Maeve and Finn, were both quite likeable and three-dimensional, and their relationship development was nicely paced. I appreciated how open and honest they were with each other, aside from the romantic feelings that they both kept to themselves until it was almost too late, and their banter as they got to know each other was a lot of fun.

Overall, "Baby Daddy Wanted" was a fun and sweet story that I would recommend for all fans of contemporary romance.

**My thanks to the author and Hidden Gems for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

Maeve and Finn were a wonderful couple with great chemistry and i loved that Maeve said and did exactly what she said she would without being fake. Finn was also a good character, just a little hard on himself.

Both characters had good friends around them and helped them when it was needed,

This is the first time that i have read this author and the writing certainly has me thinking that this will not be the last time. I will have to add her to the want to read more of authors list lol.

I really enjoyed this book and stuffy Maeve ended up loosening up a bit and with Finn going with the flow of things and not really fighting his feelings towards Maeve, we get a delightful story and a very happy ending.

Definitely worth reading.

I got to be honest when hearing about Maeve in the first two books I wasn’t sure I was going to like her she seemed very different to her siblings and maybe a bit stuck up. From the beginning of this book I realised I was wrong she not stuck up, she more social unaware. She a bit nervous but she just has a plan but once she meets Finn they are opposite but they seem to work so well together.

I loved Finn and his sense of humour and how he helped at the Y. I loved how an ex popular musician got with a consultant and how they are so different they fit. I love these kind of stories when unexpected people come together.

If like a close family who all have lovely romance stories this series for you.

Yet another fabulous romantic romp from Hazel.

What I really love about Hazel's heroes and heroines is that they have depth of character. Not an insipid, fluffy person in sight. Everyone is well-rounded and you feel like you really know them. Maeve and Finn are no exception. I loved Maeve's character and was able to put my self in her shoes very easily (because I've been in similar circumstances) and Finn was deliciously flawed, yet perfect enough to fall in love with. I mean come on - who wouldn't want a talented, gorgeous bloke supporting you through troubled times, who is completely devoted to you and wants to help you achieve your dreams... while also dripping with sarcasm and ready for a good laugh? Well - I'll take him if you won't! :o)

I think out of all Hazel's books - this was the one that resonated with me the most... and from start to finish I was hooked!

Another corker from this very talented writer.

Maeve Mason wants her happily ever after, but having just been dumped again leaves her wondering if it is ever going to happen for her. She desperately wants a baby and has come to the conclusion that she may just have to go at it alone with the use of a donor.

But then she meets Finn, a handsome musician, that makes her smile and feel something she hasn't for a long time. He quickly becomes a friend, bordering on more, and suddenly her little plan takes a whole new direction.

Baby Daddy Wanted is a steamy opposites attract romance that will have you smiling and swooning throughout! Watching Maeve go after what she wanted was inspiring and wildly entertaining, I loved following her on her little baby daddy quest. Her and Finn brought laugh, steam, and loads of feels to the pages. If you like sweet and funny romances then I have no doubt you will enjoy this one, it comes brimming with all the good stuff to leave your heart happy!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

Maeve was dumped on the New Year. Her biological clock is ticking and she is looking for a baby daddy. Her next step is artificial insemination. Finn is part owner of a bar and supplies the live entertainment. When they meet the strike up a conversation that leads to friendship and then a romance. He offers to help her choose a donor. Feelings get in the way and they both are conflicted. Maeve is a little uptight and Finn is mostly carefree. Both are loners and keep things close to their chest. They are good on the own but the both make each other better. Maeve loosens up and Finn starts thinking of going after his dreams. Fun story that will have you falling in love with both characters.

I just knew Meave's story was going to be awesome! When she meets Finn their chemistry is unmistakable and the banter fantastic. Finn is hilariously funny and was absolutely perfect for Meave. She was pretty "uptight" but I loved that she knew what she wanted and was going for it. Finn was sweet, sexy and had this whole plan to help her but fell hard for her instead. Their romance is full of humor, steam, love, wonderful characters and a fabulous HEA. Another wonderful story from one of my favorite authors.

Hazel Kelly is becoming a favorite contemporary romance author of mine. Her characters are totally relatable right down to some of their quirks. Finn's love of Spinal Tap? I totally understand this! Ms. Kelly knows how to write sexy heroes that are sweet yet commanding. Her heroines are a mix of sassy, strong, and insecure in a very real way. It's hard not to want to cheer for her couples to find their HEA. I loved Maeve and Finn. I loved that Maeve was ready to go it alone to reach her dream of motherhood. I really appreciated how both Finn and Maeve have to change their view of what they thought their lives and loves should be in order to be together. I absolutely thought the secondary characters were awesome. They take the book from a 4 star read to a 5 star read!

Baby Daddy Wanted is a delightful, steamy, love story that’s filled with wittty banter and sexy, hot chemistry. I was blown away by Maeve and Finn’s story and the amazing cast of characters not only in this book but in all of the Mason Family Standalone’s. It’s an exciting and wonderful must read that had me hooked from the start! You won’t want to miss it!

While you’re waiting or Plan B (not that plan b).

Maeve just got dumped and in the process of drowning her sorrows, she meets Finn, mister while you’re waiting. For the perfect baby daddy. He’ll do. For now. For fun. Until the perfect baby daddy is chosen.

I found I enjoyed this sweet and steamy unlikely couple with very different goals.

There’s nothing better than witty, sexy banter to start foreplay! And Maeve and Finn were exceptional at it! I literally had a smile on my face for the first half of this book. Maeve was the typical type A “capable” female. And Finn...*sigh*... he was just utter perfection! Talk about heart melting and week knees! The secret longing between both Finn and Maeve was palpable. When Finn finally opens up to Brian about how he feels, I could almost feel his despair and how distraught he was.
The scene with Finn and Max and his list was a tearjerker for me. It was raw, and emotional, and really touching for such a serious subject.
There was not one single thing that I disliked about this book, except for Kurt, but I’m sure that was Ms. Kelly’s intention. This is a book that will go on my favorites list to be read again and again!

So good, so good, so good. Baby Daddy Wanted was my favorite of The Masons series. I really liked Maeve, the main character. She’s the oldest sister, knows what she wants, and isn’t ashamed about it. She doesn’t play games in relationships, she’s up front. It’s just so refreshing to read a contemporary romance with such a strong female lead.

And Finn was great too! No games, knows what he wants, accepts change, I loved his character.

Overall, a fantastic contemporary romance read, go get it!

Before my review starts, let me tell you I don't always like long books, especially if they don't grab my attention. This book not only grabbed my attention from the first chapter, but kept it until the end. I was up wayyyy to late reading and then finished it this morning. The characters were so likeable and their chemistry was hot. I liked how serious Maeve was and Finn brought out the fun in her. Finn was a very hot guy who had lots of charm but had a good character too. I loved his interaction with the young music kids. Melted my heart - I think it melted Maeve's too. Very good book

This was a great opposites attract romance. I wasn't too sure how I felt about Maeve from past books, my glimpses of her were of an uptight, keeps to a schedule, Type A no- nonsense lady. Whilst this was somewhat true, she also turned out to be feisty and very strong willed and independent. She knew what she wanted and this happened to be a baby.

Finn was exactly what she needed without ever knowing it. He came into her life after she had recently broken up with her boyfriend. He brought light heartedness and humor to her seriousness. His musical and artistic side, balanced her out. However, Maeve had already decided that she wanted a sperm donor and didn't need to rely on a man. Finn know has to decide what is most important too. A great read!

With reading about both James and Maddy’s lives, I was interested in seeing how Maeve’s life would be… With the other two books you get a glimpse of her, but all you see really is that she’s the grown up one and doesn’t like implementing her problems onto her younger siblings…. Plus, you can see that she doesn’t really like coming out for family gatherings, but would much rather keep to herself, but that’s only because she’s such a high-powered career type woman. For some people it works really well, but you also have to figure out the balance in between so that you can let loose and have fun. But in this book, you get to see a whole other side to Maeve, and even she isn’t sure where this comes from… But it’s exciting.
I think that Hazel Kelly has done a great job at bringing The Mason Sibling’s stories to life and I can’t help but fall in love with her work more and more every time I read a new book of hers. It’s clear her passion for writing is there within the words she writes and she is such a talented author… I honestly couldn’t fault this book as she did a great job with it. I loved Finn, he was such an intriguing character and the fact that he was the type of guy that Maeve would never normally go for ever made it more fun because of how she tends to plan her life ever so perfectly.
I have no idea what Hazel plans on doing next, whether that be she continues writing any more for this series, or if she is starting a new one, but either way I’m excited to read more of her work as it’s incredible.
I would highly recommend giving this book a read, especially if you’ve read both Maddy’s and James’ stories.

Maeve has spent the last year trying to move on with her life so that she can prepare starting a family because her ultimate goal has always been to be a mother. However, after one last attempt at doing things the proper way, with being in a relationship (because the guy matched up on paper), and hoping to take the next step, her life comes crashing down on New Years Eve….. But luckily for her she meets this guy (Finn) who is determined to keep talking to her, he’s not set on hitting on her, but wants to help make her happy and help her to relax and let loose just a little. But with the hopes of becoming a mother occupying her mind and her needing to choose a sperm donor, will everything work out according to how she wants???

In my opinion, this standalone was okay. Nothing was really wrong with per se, but I didn't think anything about it was spectacular.

I guess my struggle with this standalone was that I didn't feel like the characters really overcame anything. What they would identify as their issues were so easily overcome that I barely had time to register them as actual problems.

All in all, this book was a cute story about realizing what you want in life and what would make you happy. Not an amazing read, but if you're looking for something simple, cute and sweet; this is it.

This is the third book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. I love Hazel's writing and she never disappoints with her talent of making you fall in love with the characters.

I have to be honest. I didn't think I was going to like Maeve. After reading her in the other two books I thought it would be hard to write a book about someone so bossy and authoritative. I felt that she kind of came across as cold and unfeeling in certain aspects of the other two books.

After I got past the first few chapters, I found out exactly how wrong I was. Maeve is someone to look up to. She was bossy because she had to grow up faster when her parents divorced. Even though seeing what a horrible parent her father is, she still wants to be a Mom more than anything in the world.

After a kind of break up with Kurt, she ends up in a bar on New Year's Eve. Enter Finn. The man playing at the bar that night.

Finn is amazing. I have found that Hazel has a knack for writing the perfect (or close to perfect a man can get) man. Finn is confident, but vulnerable at the same time. He is convinced that he doesn't want a girlfriend. Maeve is perfect because she is going to get a sperm donor and have a baby by herself.

I won't tell you more, you have to read the book. I think you will love it as much as I did. It hits all the feels.
