Sweetwater Springs #7

Reunited on Dragonfly Lane

Rate this book
In this romantic adventure, anything is paws-ible when a single shop owner makes a connection with her new vet.

Boutique owner Sophie Daniels certainly isn't looking to adopt a dog the day veterinarian Chase Lewis convinces her to take in Comet. A rambunctious puppy with a broken leg may not be the best choice for a first-time pet owner. And house calls from the handsome doctor—her high school sweetheart who's just moved back to Sweetwater Springs—may not be the best choice for her heart either.

Chase has come home to help his nephew but finds that he's forgotten just how much he enjoys small-town life. However, sooner or later, he's going to have to face the past and his unresolved feelings for Sophie. Now that Comet needs both their help, Chase is going to let the four-legged matchmaker work his canine magic. Then Chase will prove to Sophie that first love is even better the second time around.

Includes the bonus novella A Wedding on Lavender Hill!

Annie Rains should be a household name when it comes down to clean, contemporary romance novels. Because of Reunited on Dragonfly Lane, I’m now a big fan of the author.

Once inseparable, Sophie Daniels and Chase Lewis were the peanut butter and jelly of all couples — you couldn’t have one without the other. Until, one day a dreadful accident occurs leaving Sophie scarred not only physically, but emotionally as well. The accident causes a wedge to develop between Chase and Sophie, forcing a breakup in Chase and Sophie’s relationship.

Then one day, Sophie is forced to confront Chase, who is now the town’s only veterinarian, to help with Comet, a puppy injured with a broken leg. What follows is the push-pull of emotions that compels Chase and Sophie to re-evaluate themselves and each other.

Reunited on Dragonfly Lane is a heartwarming novel that will surely pull your heartstrings and at the same time, make you feel that second chances are maybe all you need in life and love. Five stars. I loved it.

This was a delightful romance! I kind of picked this book on a whim. I had not read this author before or really remember hearing much about her work. I am going to say that my decision to read this book was probably based on the dog on the cover more than anything. Sad to admit but ultimately true. Well, this dog didn't steer me wrong and I ended up really enjoying this book.

I found out after I had the book that it is the seventh book in the Sweetwater Springs series. Thankfully, this book read perfectly well as a stand-alone, although now I really want to go back and read the earlier books in the series.

This book focuses on Sophie, Chase, and the dog that brought them together, Comet. Sophie is on her way to a wedding when she hits a dog. While she is on the side of the road trying to help the dog, the local veterinarian, Chase, who happens to be on his way to the same wedding stops to help out. Chase helps the dog out and they both make it to the wedding a little late. Oh, did I mention that Sophie and Chase used to be together until Sophie had an accident and pushed him away?

I just loved these two together. Sophie had a lot of things to work out as a result of the accident that changed her life. Chase had some issues with his family that he needed to deal with as well. I thought that they had fantastic chemistry together and it was evident that they never stopped caring about each other. When Sophie agrees to take in the dog they saved together, they suddenly had a perfect reason to spend more time with each other and I thought it was fun that the dog played an important role in the story. It was fun getting to see these two get to know each other again.

I would recommend this book to romance readers. This was a wonderful romance set in a town filled with fabulous characters. Sophie, Chase, and Comet won my heart and I look forward to reading more from this talented author soon.

Reunited on Dragonfly Lane by Annie Rains
Sweetwater Springs series #7. Contemporary small town, second chance romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Sophie Daniels hasn’t fully recovered from her climbing accident and near death. Nor has she forgiven Chase for skipping that climbing trip although it was her own decision to go alone. Chase is back in town now to help his sister-in-law. He’s the only veterinary in the small town of Sweetwater Springs. He knew he’d eventually run into Sophie but doesn’t expect it to be over a hurt puppy. He’s never forgiven her for pushing him away after her accident. But there are still sparks between them, even years later. Can they forgive each other and themselves for their youthful decisions?

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version narrated by Vanessa Johansson who created a wonderful performance with specific voices Sophie, Chase, and several secondary characters including Trisha and Natalie. The emotions of sorrow, angst, anxiety and more is clearly heard in this spellbinding recording. Well worth the time to listen to this series ending.
I listened at 1.5 and slightly higher to more closely match local conversation speed.

Engaging and endearing. This small town romance will hit your heartstrings. I especially loved the charitable helping hands.

Hopeful, enchanting, and sweetly romantic!

Reunited on Dragonfly Lane is a heartfelt, adorable second-chance romance that features the kindhearted, scarred Sophie and the handsome, dependable Chase as they navigate a relationship that includes undeniable chemistry, a devastating accident in the past, a relationship that ended badly, and an irresistible, four-legged, furry friend.

The writing is cosy and light. The characters are generous, hesitant, and endearing. And the plot is a compelling combination of family, friendship, community, generosity, tender moments, and swoon-worthy romance.

Reunited on Dragonfly Lane is another playful, emotional, charming read by Rains, and even though it’s a little sad to say goodbye to all the characters we’ve come to know and love over the past seven novels, it has been an absolute pleasure to be able to indulge in all the romance, adventure, mishaps, and love that’s gone on in Sweetwater Springs over the entire series, and I can’t wait to be swept away to Somerset Lake when the new series kicks off later this spring.

Thank you to Forever and Grand Central Publishing for providing me with a copy in an exchange for an honest review.

I have really enjoyed my time in Springwater Springs. I have come to know so many of the characters and they really feel like family now.
I have read all but one book in the series, I'll need to read that one too.
A second chance romance for Sophie and Chase who is the town's veterinarian and always on call.
Small town romance is sure to delight as we see Chase's feelings come to life again in his unresolved relationship that he had with Sophie when she was a teen.
After her accident everything changes though and they go their separate ways.
When a sweet puppy is involved in an accident who takes care of him? The town's vet of course and it just happens to be Chase. Fostering the dog is something boutique owner Sophie is happy to do and the pup is sweeter than Valentine's candy and does a fine job of bringing this couple together again.
I sped read this tender sweet small town romance with it's ups and downs and plenty of woofing delight!
Bonus story by Annie Rains and recipes included as well.

Sophie Daniels has her hands full running her boutique and definitely had no plans to adopt a dog, especially not a puppy with a broken leg and lots of energy. But since she’s the one who tapped the pup with her car, she caves when the vet, Chase Lewis, asks her to foster him. Chase also happens to be the high school sweetheart she never quite got over so frequent contact with him seems risky for her heart too.

Chase has just returned to take over the veterinary clinic in his hometown so he can be closer to his young nephew. He loves the small-town life, but it means confronting the feelings he still has for Sophie. Since she needs his help with the puppy, Chase is hoping she’ll fall in love with them both.

This premise was so cute, and the second chance aspect was different here as it was the heroine who ended the previous relationship which seems rare. The first half of this really worked for me and the latter sadly didn’t. I kept rooting for Chase and wound up feeling like he deserved better from Sophie. He seemed to give more than she did, and she refused to meet him in the middle, pushing him away out of a misplaced fear. This made Sophie seem rather disingenuous to me as Chase had always been there for her and she was the one to push him away, but he never gave her a real reason to doubt him. I adored the small-town setting and Chase as a genuinely good guy hero struggling with painful emotions, but the actual romance here fizzled out for me and I didn’t really get it until the very end. This aspect wasn’t helped by the lack of steam, but the main issue was how Sophie seemed to blow issues out of proportion or create them from nothing, seeking to blame Chase for things that weren’t his fault. She insisted she wasn’t a victim despite her accident, but mannerisms she exhibited, like hiding her scars, even from Chase, said otherwise and undermined their relationship. This was a cute setting but for me not much happened and there were many cyclical arguments and repetitive inner monologues that had me struggling to stay interested and invested in the story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

Chase and Sophie used to be in love when they were both 18 years old. However, Sophie suffered a devastating injury while climbing and due to her tragedy, she drove Chase away. He went to college and then veterinary school. When Chase's brother is jailed, he moves back to Sweetwater Springs to be their for his sister-in-law and young nephew.

One day while driving Sophie hits a dog and hurries the dog to the only vet in town - Chase. Although quite concerned about the dog it does not take but a moment for Sophie and Chase to realize that the spark that died out years ago still burns just as hot.

While Chase is there for any sick or injured pet that comes his way, he is also there for his nephew. What is more is that the dog that he treated for Sophie still needs care, and Sophie just might be the best one to foster the animal. This helps to bring Sophie and Chase into contact quite a bit, giving the both of them ample opportunity to explore their growing feelings, thus giving their love a second chance.

Although Sophie and Chase may indeed want to be together once again, there are obstacles that are in the way. Will what they feel for one another again be enough to overcome these difficult obstacles? I enjoyed this touching book by Annie Rains and have also loved the previous books in this series. Sweetwater Springs and its residents are absolutely wonderful and it was nice to spend a few hours in this sweet story.

Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: http://www.romancingthereaders.com/20...

I have to start off by saying that I hate when a series ends. It's like saying goodbye to old friends. Here's my dilemma, I also love starting new series by my favorite authors. I guess we'll have to go on the ride for this new series and I'm pretty sure we'll love it just as my as we did Sweetwater Springs.

This review isn't as easy to write as most of my others. I was very conflicted with this story. I both loved it with moments of "really", and can we move on, please. I hate when that happens with an author that I really love reading. Now that doesn't mean I didn't' enjoy the story because I did. It just means at times I wasn't always happy with it.

Confusing aren't I? I'll try to explain. Let me start off with that I loved Chase and think he's a really great guy who at times is too good for Sophie. His only crime in this whole book is being young when it all started. I know, I'm not really explaining it but I want you to read it for yourself and judge how you feel about it all.

Now, I think you're getting what I'm putting down that Sophie isn't my favorite heroine. What can I say it happens sometimes. I didn't dislike her but I did feel like all her issues were of her own making. She caused it and took it out on others and still does in a passive-aggressive way. She did something stupid, which we all do but she blames poor Chase who had nothing to do with her poor judgment. I might have gotten over her attitude but throughout the whole story it brought up over and over again.

When we aren't dwelling on their past I really enjoyed the story. I liked how Chase was dealing with what his brother has done and how he stood up to help out his brother's family. I also enjoyed the interactions between Chase and his friends.

One of the things I enjoyed about Sophie is the way she stood up and took care of Comet when he is hurt. She's not really an animal person but still took him in. I also loved what she did in the backroom of her boutique and wish there was more about that than what happened in her past. What she did for those ladies in need is a wonderful thing.

I also liked how the author is going to tie the new series in with this one. A great way of moving us over. It's a little sad, but I'm excited to see what happens. Not my favorite of the authors but still a very good read.

Such a beautiful addition to this series.

This second chance romance is epic and beautiful! Chase and Sophie were sweethearts when they were young. When Sophie ends up stranded on a mountain for 36 hours with life altering consequences, she blames him for what happened.

Skip forward about 10 years. Sophie now owns a local boutique, and Chase has come back to town to be the local vet. When Sophie accidentally hits a dog, she and Chase start to feel sparks again.

This story is one of moving on, moving forward, and mostly, of forgiveness. It was beautiful, and I was so in love with it!! I highly recommend checking it out!

Is there anything to add to one of my favorite series? Nope. Not really. I still love this town. I still love the characters in this town. It's always a heartwarming experience to go back to Sweet Water Springs. I enjoyed the characters. I do have to say....I'm still hung up on another couple I read a few months ago. What do you do? I will continue to read this series everytime Annie drops a new book. I love it that much.

This was a sweet second chance contemporary romance!

Comet is the cutest dog and the best furry cupid! I love how he help bring Sophie and Chase together again.

Sophie is a an engaging lead, and I liked her journey of how she healed from the rock climbing accident that had so affected her life. Her chemistry with Chase is fantastic, and I love how they challenge each other to grow and face what's been holding them back. The book did seem to drag a little in the middle, but the ending was sure and sweet.

Overall a sweet contemporary romance with one of the best doggos I've read about!

(partner) This is such a bittersweet review for me because it’s the last book in my beloved Sweetwater Springs series 😭😩 These books brought me such comfort last year, they were such easy, cozy reads to get lost in so I almost didn’t want to read this one because now it means they’re over. BUT the author has a brand new series starting later this year set in a new neighboring town and I’m hoping for some crossover after some hints were dropped in this book.

This is a second chance romance between Sophie and Chase. I’ve long wanted a book about Sophie so I was excited it was finally her turn. Chase is the veterinarian in town, so if you like animals there’s plenty of that cuteness here. I loved the themes of forgiveness and second chances here and thought it was such a wonderful way to end the series. Once again, this was the perfect mix between emotional exploration and some lightness, Annie has a way of balancing the light and dark that just works so well for me and this series will always have a little piece of my heart! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I always get so excited when Annie Rains releases a new book, because her books always draw me in and keep me entertained. This book was no exception, it was just the happy story I needed to escape real life this week. Chase and Sophie were great both characters, and seeing Sophie as a side character in many previous books in this series, I was excited to learn more about her and see her get her own Happily Ever After. Comet and Petey were also great characters that I really enjoyed being such a big part of this story! Sweetwater Springs is such a great setting, it is one of those towns that I wish was real so that I could go and visit it in real life. The side characters in this book, and town are so colorful and add so much to each others stories. I hope that there are many more books in the Sweetwater Springs series to come. I received an ARC of this book from netgalley, and this is my honest review.

Every book Annie Rains writes is a work of art, and if you haven't picked up a book in the series yet, this might be a great place to start! A tale of second chance romance is exactly what this world needs right now, when we may feel all is lost and there's no going back to getting what we had before. I'm not always a fan of these due to the general angst involved, but Annie Rains did an amazing job telling the story with believable characters and a compelling backstory to make us all end up in tears at the end of the book. If you're on the fence about love when you start the book, you'll believe in love again by the end.

Sophie Daniels is in a rush to get to a friend's wedding when a dog runs into the road right in front of her car. Not knowing how badly he is injured, Sophie can only think of one person to take him to and it's the one person she least wants to see - Chase Lewis. Chase used to be her boyfriend, before a bad fall while climbing resulted in her leg being crushed and her plans for college being put on the backburner. In an effort to protect him from dealing with her suddenly stilted future, she pushed him away, and now that he's returned, it's painful to see him at all. Chase never forgot about Sophie, and when she asks him to care for the dog, he immediately wants to help. As the dog is healing and they spend more time together, they realize their feelings for each other never truly went away. But their past is full of pain and hurt feelings, and even love may not be enough to mend the wounds.

It was so easy to fall in love with this couple! From the first time the reader meets each of them, they immediately feel relatable and warm. Sophie was a sweetheart, with a kind soul but wounded spirit, and as soon as I realized she had lost her true love long ago, I immediately wanted her to get it back. Chase was an easy guy to like, with his veterinary practice and obvious care for animals, as well as his genuine affection for Sophie, in spite of all that happened between them. He had his own problems on the side, with a brother in jail and a nephew looking to him as a role model, and I could feel the pressure that was put on him. He needed Sophie, and Sophie needed him, they just both weren't sure of that right away. It was a slow burn romance at first, as they were hesitant to start anything, but it became clear quickly that one kiss would not be enough. I was rooting for them the whole way, and the book ended perfectly, exactly how I would have liked it to end. There were some bumps in the road getting there, but that was necessary for them both to heal enough to see their love for each other.

As always, brava to Annie Rains! Another enjoyable read and one to share with family and friends whenever they come asking for a recommendation.

Reunited on Dragonfly Lane is the seventh - and last - book of the Sweetwater Springs series by Annie Rains. Does it stand alone? Perfectly, and I would know because this was the first one I've read. What is wrong with me?! 2020 was awful, and I could have made it a heck of a lot sweeter had I read the previous books! The pandemic and breast cancer followed by a bilateral mastectomy would have been a lot more pleasant with some visits to Sweetwater Springs, N.C.

Sophie Daniels owns the hottest boutique in the small town of Sweetwater Springs. When she hits an adorable little pup with her car and breaks its leg, veterinarian Chase Lewis comes to the rescue. Chase was Sophie's high school sweetheart who recently moved back to town to help his nephew. Years ago, when Chase made other plans with his friends, Sophie went climbing by herself and was seriously injured, stuck on the mountain with a crushed leg. That's when Sophie pushed him away and ended their romance. Now Chase convinces Sophie to foster puppy Comet until he's healed, and he'll help with Comet's care. Can the loveable furball bring these two back together?

This was a lovely second (third?) chance small-town romance. Sweetwater Springs sounds like the perfect place to live; what a shame it's fictional! Both Sophie and Chase were great characters, though I must admit I did like Chase more. Sophie had a popular boutique but she also had a "Fairy Godmother's Closet" in the back of her store, where she helped women from a local shelter with second-hand clothes for job interviews. She also took Comet in though she knew nothing about dogs. I did have an issue with Sophie telling Chase years ago that her accident was his fault, even though she told him so he'd go to college and she wouldn't be a burden on him. She really hurt him. I did enjoy their romance very much, but it was Chase's relationships with his family that I found most touching. His brother was in jail so he returned to his home town to help his former sister-in-law Trisha and nephew Petey. Though his brother Pete and Trisha were divorced, she was still Chase's family and he loved them dearly. Chase was trying to come to terms that Pete was a criminal and was in jail; it was that relationship that made me tear up. Of course, the star of the show was Comet...who can resist a cute puppy?!

There was also a short story at the end of the book, A Wedding on Lavender Hill. Short and sweet!

I received an ARC if this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Over the past few years, Sweetwater Springs has become one of my favorite fictional small towns to visit. With each book in the series I read I feel like I come home for a visit with old friends and leave with new ones.

As Annie Rains has done with each book in this series, Reunited on Dragonfly Lane features a likeable main couple readers will find it easy to cheer for. High school sweethearts who were in love but too young to handle the strain of a life-threatening accident, Chase and Sophie went their separate ways when they were eighteen. Now, ten years later, Chase has returned to town and they're both dealing with the fact that those feelings they thought had been left behind in their teens are, in fact, ready to flare to life once again. But each of them has unresolved emotional baggage to overcome for this second chance at love to succeed. Their journey is poignant and heartfelt, with forgiveness and acceptance at its core. I was with them every step of the way.

Sophie and Chase are both fully developed characters with layers, flaws, and relatable obstacles to overcome. The yearning between them is palpable but I appreciate the fact that Rains takes her time with them this second time around, allowing them to slowly rebuild their foundation of friendship and trust before taking their emotions deeper. She also surrounds them with a supportive cast of secondary characters, enhancing the community feel of the story. I especially enjoyed Sophie's best friend Trisha and Trisha's young son, Petey (Chase's former sister-in-law and nephew) who have key roles in this book. I'm hoping Rains has plans for them in her next series. Creating a sense of community is something this author does well. But while her ensemble cast gives fans of the series a "welcome home" feeling with every new book, she crafts each story in such a way that a reader is able to begin with any of the seven books in the series without feeling lost or confused.

If you enjoy sweet, small-town, contemporary romance with relatable characters, heart-tugging, emotional depth, satisfying sexual chemistry (without on-page sex), and a feel-good happy ending, I enthusiastically recommend Reunited on Dragonfly Lane, along with the rest of the books in the Sweetwater Springs series. I'm sad to bid farewell to Sweetwater Springs but I'm already looking forward to whatever Annie Rains has planned for readers next.

This is hands down one of the best books about second chances and helping others to make it in this hard world that I have ever read! Sophie used to love to climb before she had a horrible accident that disfigured her leg and took the desire to climb right out of her heart. Chase was her true love and climbing buddy, but he hadn’t been there for her that day, the worst day in her life, so she has turned her back on climbing and on Chase. When Chase returns to Sweetwater Springs as the town’s only vet, it is inevitable that he will run into Sophie since the town is so small. The story is incredibly fast-paced and remarkably well-plotted. The characters are flawed human beings just trying to work through some difficulties in their lives. I was shedding more than a few tears as each obstacle seemed to be working out, even for Trisha whose husband Pete is in prison. Sophie’s desire to help others ends up with her getting a cute and smart little dog named Comet. And of course, since Chase is a vet, their paths continue to cross. My favorite character in the book was actually Nadine. You will just have to read the book to find out what she has to overcome and if she is able to succeed. This book is uplifting and was just the perfect tale for me to read this week! Fans of the series will not want to miss this culminating book since all of the former characters have a role to play. Avid readers who have not read the series will be fine reading this one as a standalone, but then they will want to go back and read the other books because the author weaves such a good story.

#7 (and final book) in the Sweetwater Springs romance series

Rains has built a warm and friendly town, which emphasizes its closeness in this particular book. When Sophie had her accident years ago, the townsfolk gathered around her and her family, helping her get back on her feet (literally). I love the idea that now she is moved to help "pay it forward" by creating her Fairy Godmother's Closet for needy women in town who now need a helping hand. I was less thrilled about Sophie's attitude toward Chase. She still blames him, after all these years, that he "caused" her accident by not being there when she wanted to go climbing. She went anyway, by herself, duh. He, more rightly, blames his brother for all the heartache he caused to friends and family by embezzling their money (and going to jail for it). The good news is that both of them faced their baggage and worked on getting through their resentment and looking forward to new beginnings. They actually make a good couple--both dog lovers, both adventure seekers, both family oriented--and I enjoyed seeing them work on themselves first before working on their shared relationship. This was a nice way to end a fairly nice series.
NOTE: It was interesting to get to know Trisha (Chase's sister-in-law) in this book since she is the first character in the spinoff Somerset Lake series (that I already read).

I can’t believe this is the END of Sweetwater Springs! I have totally fallen for Annie’s writing style in these last few books and will anxiously await whatever she decides to write next!

With lovable characters that pop up for cameos in many of the titles, and a charming town you can’t help but fall for this series has been so fun to read. Add PUPPIES on top of it, thanks to Chase being the town veterinarian and this one may have been one of my favorites in the series!

Chase and Sophie are the second chance romance that book readers dream of, with a great backstory and even better future. I loved reading their story of growth, connection and romance!

I loved how Sophie’s story came together as she dealt with the loss in her past, and how she overcame it, resulting in the heartwarming boutique she owns. A great cozy story that could be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the entire series, this one got 4.5 stars from me!

Annie Rains creates a heartwarming story for veterinarian Chase Lewis and boutique owner Sophie Daniels in the latest addition to the Sweetwater Springs series. Reunited on Dragonfly Lane is a well plotted, poignant second chance romance filled with captivating characters
Ten years ago, a climbing accident turned Sophie’s world upside down. Instead of going to college, she broke up with Chase, her high school boyfriend, and spent a year in rehab. Annie Rains has crafted a heroine who appears to be happy and content. In truth, Sophie has not forgiven herself for the decision she made while on the mountain. This mistake changes Sophie both physically and emotionally and in doing so makes her a flawed but, relatable character.
Chase moved back to Sweetwater Springs to support Trisha, his former sister- in -law and his nephew Petey. Chase’s brother was convicted of embezzlement and his family is suffering repercussions. He’s a dedicated vet who loves all outdoor sports; mountain bike riding, climbing, fishing. Loved that he has unresolved issues—with Sophie and his brother—and is not quite sure how to resolve them.
An injured Border collie puppy named Comet brings the couple together. The sexual chemistry between the couple sizzled which enabled the author to create a slow burn romance for Sophie and Chase. They have been given a valuable gift- the opportunity to build a relationship built on trust and forgiveness.
Reunited on Dragonfly Lane grabbed my heart from the first page because Sophie survived and made a difference in her community. Her journey was very emotional, inspirational and heartwarming. I loved that kindness and forgiveness were the key themes in this novel Sophie and Chase brought out the best in each other—this made this captivating novel a 5 star read!
If you are looking for a heartwarming small town romance filled with love, laughter and fabulous characters—pick up a copy of Annie Rains Reunited on Dragonfly Lane!
I have enjoyed every book in this series and will miss the characters, their stories and the close knit community. Sweetwater Springs is the type of series that can be reread and appreciated with each reading. Am looking forward to the authors next series—Somerset Lake!

Sophie Daniels and Chase Lewis were once a couple, inseparable and interconnected. Until Sophie had a disastrous climbing accident and nearly lost her leg. She was young, confused, hurt and angry and pushed Chase away. Now, years later, Chase has returned to take over the veterinary clinic and help his sister-in-law, nephew and mother after his brother’s imprisonment. He and Sophie are “waving” acquaintances now, not quite friendly, but polite acknowledgement. Until on the way to their friends’ wedding, Chase stops to help Sophie and a young puppy that she’s hit with her car.

The wedding is where the two start to tentatively repair their relationship: both realizing that they never found that spark with anyone else. Sophie is far more reluctant to take the next steps, she’s lived her life since the accident with caution and ignored or dismissed everything that she used to love to do. Chase still loves those adrenaline-fueled activities: climbing, running and kayaking, but he’s unsure about mentioning them to Sophie, or even bringing her to places they used to love.

Additionally there’s his sister-in-law Tess and his nephew, Petey, and the need to find a new home for the puppy (Comet) that Sophie hit with the car. While Tess works full time at the women’s shelter and cleans houses on the weekends, the onus of her ex-husband's misdeeds have followed them both. While Tess is struggling with finances and parenthood, Petey is bullied at school and wants nothing more than to get his own dog. With Sophie being an honorary ‘aunt’ and Comet there to visit frequently gives Petey his doggie fix, and allows both Sophie and Tess some needed best friend time and support. Oh there are issues, none of which are insurmountable with a bit of good sense, honesty and plenty of heart – something always available in a novel from Annie Rains. Grab this story and escape to Sweetheart Springs, you’ll love the people, the atmosphere and want to find a community just like it to live, love and laugh in.

3.5 stars. This is a cute romance about Sophie and Chase. Sophie is a boutique owner and Chase is a vet in Sweetwater Springs. The 2 used to be together until a hiking accident badly injured Sophie and she pulled away from everyone. Now they are reunited when she accidentally runs over a dog and he takes care of it. I love vet stories and I liked both of these characters, but overall it wan't anything exceptional. I liked the inclusion of side characters and I am guessing the rest of the series is cute. I didn't feel like I was missing anything, but other storylines were definitely hinted at. I liked Chase's sister in law/ Sophie's best friend- Trisha- and her son Petey. I wouldn't mind reading their story. Overall, cute!

Perfect for lovers of sweet romance! I loved Sophie and Chase's story, who are reunited by fate and the cutest puppy ever Comet. I also love that both Sophie and Chase are characters with big hearts as Chase is a vet who takes care of animals , and Sophie has a little charity inside her boutique that helps women. This couple were made for each other though it may take a bit for them to realize that , fate always come back to right the path gone wrong .

This was a bittersweet ending to the Sweetwater Springs series. I've definitely enjoyed the ride.

This book started out great, but halfway through I wasn't feeling it anymore. It seemed as though Chase gave and gave, but Sophie kept herself closed off and was a bit resentful of Chase at times. Sophie and Chase dated when they were in high school and they were so in love. But Sophie had a climbing accident when she was 18, was injured, and she pushed Chase away. He went off to college, became a vet and moved away. He's been back in town for the last year to support his nephew, Petey, and former sister-in-law, Trisha, who are coping with life after Chase's brother was sent to prison for fraud. He's been friendly to Sophie, but hasn't pursued anything more because he knows she doesn't want a relationship with him again.

Sophie and Chase end up spending more time together after Sophie hits a dog while driving. Chase fixes Comet's leg up and then Sophie decides to foster the puppy while he's recovering. It was pretty cute to see Sophie come to love the little pup after her saying she didn't want a dog. I initially loved seeing Chase and Sophie go from friendship to relationship. I like a good second-chance romance and was rooting for them. It did seem to happen a bit fast though, especially the love confessions. I didn't feel as though Sophie really opened herself up for Chase to get to know the woman she was now. She wasn't a bad person, she just held a lot of resentment and fear that was keeping her from living a fulfilling life and being honest with Chase. Chase was certainly a saint for his patience. The ending was very cute and I was happy to see them get their HEA, I just wasn't a fan of Sophie for a while there in the last half.

I loved the whole 'Fairy Godmother's Closet' thing that Sophie had running in a back room of her store. I know there are 'Dress for Success' programs that have the same mission on a bigger scale, but I liked this idea of a smaller local community coming together to help their own or those new to town who need help.

I read the first 2 books of the Somerset Lake series before I came back to finish the Sweetwater series, so I was already familiar with Trisha/Petey and how their story would go that we get a foreshadowing of in this book. That helped make some of the connections in this book between characters.

I really love the town and residents of Sweetwater Springs. I always enjoy Annie Rains’ writing and and I’m a fan of second chance romances done well. Unfortunately, Reunited on Dragonfly Lane was my least favorite in this beloved series.

At first I really enjoyed Sophie Daniels and I love what she did with her Fairy Godmother closet. It’s a brilliant idea. Eventually, however, I wasn’t such a fan of hers. I understand that her past accident forever changed her life to a degree, but she was still quite capable and able to live a full life and I wasn’t fond of her repeatedly bringing up what she could not do, through even her inability to try was solely based on fear. Admittedly, I wasn’t a fan of Chase either and his stubborn biases.

I also am never a fan of couples who don’t just talk through obvious issues, but instead keep quiet and then are surprised when the problems escalate into something far greater. The issues that this couple faced seemed rather petty and easily reconciled,

Some of the issues with Petey also seemed like problems that could have been addressed with the teacher or the school to at least be improved significantly. And the ability of this young boy to hold a grudge for a one time incident seemed unbelievable in my experience.

Overall, not a lot seemed to happen in this story and it was easy to see what was coming, and what was coming was frustrating. As a whole, I found this particular story, though sweet, to be a little too vanilla and bland for me. It was predictable, rather uneventful, the characters held grudges and biases and I just didn’t love it, like I did her other stories.

*I was provided a gifted copy of this title by the publisher*

I’ve always maintained a strict no re-dating policy.

As a rule, when I break up with someone, I remove him completely from my pool of prospective partners.

I will never date him again.

I will never hook up with him again.

I will never drunk dial him in the wee hours of the morning, no matter how many vodka martinis I might have consumed the night before.

My reason for adhering to this rule is simple. I don’t end relationships frivolously, so there was a good reason why we called it quits the first time around. In all likelihood, were we to give it another go, that reason would rear its ugly head again.

Because it would be destined for failure, any attempted relationship do-over would be a waste of my time. And, because I’ve pretty much always seen dating as just something you have to do if you want to ultimately get married and have kids, I certainly was not interested in putting effort into something that was doomed to fail.

As a quick caveat, I should say that this rule did not prove particularly difficult for me to abide by as my roster of romantic partners is pretty ridiculously small. We’re talking, low single digits.

Despite the restriction I place on myself, I respect the fact that some people are willing to give a relationship a second shot.

I mean, maybe you both grew.

Maybe you both changed.

Maybe, this time, it will work out.

And, if romance novels are to be believed, it really might not be a waste of time. There is, after all, a whole slew of romance novels containing the second-chance-romance trope. And this newest Annie Rains novel, the latest — and last — in her Sweetwater Springs series, is one of them.

By all appearances, Sophie Daniels lives a fulfilling life. The proprietor of a popular boutique in her hometown of Sweetwater Springs, she seems to have found her niche. What isn’t necessarily apparent on the outside, though, is that she struggles in silence.

Years ago, what was to be an enjoyable afternoon of climbing transformed into a harrowing, near-death experience. Though Sophie survived the incident, she did not escape without physical — and mental — scars.

The most significant impact of this event was on her confidence. Since the accident, the once self-assured Sophie has found herself focusing more on what she can’t do than what she can. This pessimism pervades her life, hindering her from moving forward in her life and from taking a chance on love.

Though Chase is technically the “new” veterinarian in Sweetwater Springs, he is not completely new to the town. Chase was raised in the town, along with his brother, Pete. He spent much time during his coming-of-age with Sophie, his then-girlfriend. In fact, Chase was supposed to be with Sophie on the day of her accident. Unfortunately, he had, at the last minute, made other plans. It was this horrible twist of fate that ultimately ended the relationship that everyone around them — along with the duo themselves — assumed would end in matrimony.

Chases return to Sweetwater Springs changes things, though. As much as they both try to fight against the draw they feel towards each other, neither Chase nor Sophie can deny the chemistry that exists between them.

Will this attraction — and a residual emotion that can only accurately be described as love — be enough, though? Or will the lingering effects of Sophie’s past trauma, as well as Chase’s own hold ups and prejudices, prove too high a mountain to climb?

Clean and clear and formulaic — in the way readers so often want romances to be — this novel provides an easy escape from the very real — and, recently, incredibly abundant — challenges of daily life.

The plot is simple to follow and almost completely linear and the setting is warm and familiar and inviting.

Yet, despite all of this, this book left a bit to be desired.

Particularly problematic for me was the fact that I didn't really care for either of the main characters.

I found Chase’s black-and-white view of right and wrong to be really off-putting. Similarly frustrating was his myopic focus of the misdeeds of his brother — from whom he spends the bulk of the novel estranged. He is consistently unwilling to give not just his brother, but anyone with a dodgy past, a chance.

It was more than just that I didn’t like this characteristic of Chase, really. It was also that it didn’t ring true. I just don't know that I buy that a real person would be quite so rigid.

Similarly, I found Sophie's continual focus on her past hiking accident really frustrating. The fact that she couldn’t move past it — even in the most basic sense — made her seem really weak-willed. And that is not a characteristic I enjoy in female protagonists in any genre.

Honestly, my favorite character in this novel was neither the hero nor the heroine, but instead Trisha, Chase’s ex-sister-in-law and Sophie's best friend. Trisha, who is doing her best to raise the son that she had been left alone to parent when her husband sent to jail, is the type of strong, resilient woman I connect with and, as such, she was someone for whom I could root.

To my delight, though, I will get to see more of Trisha as she is the central heroine in The Summer Cottage, the first book in Annie Rains’ new Somerset Lake series, which hits shelves in May.

As for Reunited on Dragonfly Lane, though it’s a cutesy story that fans of second chance romances might enjoy, this one wasn’t quite a winner for me.

It earns 3 out of 5 cocktails.

REUNITED ON DRAGONFLY LANE is the seventh instalment in Annie Rains’ contemporary, adult SWEETWATER SPRINGS romance series. This is veterinarian Dr. Chase Lewis, and boutique owner Sophie Daniels’ story line. REUNITED ON DRAGONFLY LANE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Sophie and Chase) REUNITED ON DRAGONFLY LANE follows the rekindling romance between former high school sweethearts veterinarian Dr. Chase Lewis, and boutique owner Sophie Daniels. Years earlier, at the age of eighteen, Chase and Sophie had planned a weekend mountain climbing but Chase backed out, and Sophie found herself in months of rehab following an accident that left our heroine clinging to life. Fast forward to present day wherein Chase, now the town’s new veterinarian, has returned home, and is hoping for a second chance with the woman he still loves but Sophie Daniels struggles with memories of the past, and continues to blame our hero for what happened years before. An injured puppy will bring our couple together but issues of trust and the battle to forgive will find Sophie and Chase at odds, once again. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Sophie and Chase, and the potential fall-out as a favor for a friend places our couple in a position that threatens their continuing issues of trust.

The relationship between Sophie and Chase is one of second chances. Former high school sweethearts torn apart by the immaturity of love, and Sophie’s inability to move on from the past. Chase was not to blame for the accident suffered by our story line hero but Sophie’s need to blame someone made Chase the perfect target for her misplaced anger and shame. There are no $ex scenes; the kissing is chaste; the romance is implied.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Chase’s sister-in-law Trisha, and her son Petey, both of whom are struggling in the wake of Chase’s brother’s white collar crimes; Chase’s new clinic assistant Nadine, and Comet, who is the perfect foil for a rekindling romance.

REUNITED ON DRAGONFLY LANE is a story of family and friendships, second chances and love. The premise is sweet and heart warming; the romance is chaste; the characters are animated and flirty.

•••••••••

A WEDDING ON LAVENDER HILL is a bonus novelette found in Annie Rains’ REUNITED ON DRAGONFLY LANE focusing on event planner Claire Donovan and architect Bo Matthews.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Claire and Bo) A WEDDING ON LAVENDER HILL follows the quick turnaround of a wedding that should have taken months to plan. With only three days notice, events planner Claire Donovan has been tasked with pulling together the wedding of Bo Matthew’s father Pearson Matthews to his much younger bride Rebecca Long but Rebecca is struggling in the final weeks of her pregnancy and Pearson has sent his son Bo to help Claire with the wedding arrangements. Months earlier, Claire and Bo spent an evening together but in the aftermath Bo left town without looking back. Fast forward to present day wherein Claire continues to struggle with the rejection of the man with whom she would fall in love.

A WEDDING ON LAVENDER HILL is a story of second chances, of a sorts. There had been no official relationship development, only a few hours spent in one another’s company following the wedding of Bo’s ex to his best friend, but our heroine took Bo’s disappearance personally, and struggles to forgive and forget.

Chase Lewis once had her heart in the palm of his hands, he was the boy Sophie loved and wanted a future with. But after she suffered a devastating injury while climbing, her first instinct was to push him away and blame him for the accident. At that point she thought she was doing what was best, but now she realizes it was a mistake. Losing him broke her heart and left her a little hesitant about falling in love again.

No one else has ever meant as much to her as he did, but admitting that out loud is something she'll never do. It's not like she'll ever see him again anyhow... that is until an injured puppy intervenes!

Reunited on Dragonfly Lane is a touching story of second chances, finding love, and forgiveness. It brings us into the lives of Sophie and Chase and follows them on their dramatic and heart-squeezing reunion. At the age of eighteen these two were madly in love and thought they had life all figured out, their plan for a future all mapped out. But then an accident changes everything between them and forces them apart for about ten years. Now they are being reunited by injured puppy and forced to face what happened way back when.

It's evident upon first meeting that these two have something special still lingering between them, but old wounds are overshadowing that. It is also evident that they have some work to do to get to a place where they can admit that this reunion is a blessing and not a curse. Chase is willing to do whatever it takes to get Sophie back, but she isn't giving in so easily. Her heart carries a lot of pain and regret and she needs time to sort it out, so she tries to keep him at an arm's length... but her heart fights her every step of the way. This one had a bit of push and pull to it, while these characters tried to sort out their past. Just when I thought they were making headway, those old wounds would resurface and cause them to take two steps back. While their reunion was a bit frustrating at times for me, I enjoyed it nonetheless. I could see the potential there, I just wasn't too patient in waiting for it to happen! As always Ms. Rains has given us a wonderfully penned love story that stirs the emotions, touches the heart, and has characters we don't want to leave! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
