Home should be a safe haven. Jemilla’s is anything but that.

On an island run by male Singers, any female with the gift to hear the magical songs that keep the peace is put to death. Jemilla must hide the gift that would get her killed.

When the Thistly invade the island, they murder most of the island’s population, including the Singers. Jemilla escapes imprisonment, but is pursued by a Thistly captain bent on recapturing her before she can Sing the dead back to life. A silver demon waits in the shadows, whispering secrets Jemilla doesn’t want to hear.

Jemilla must fight her way through the forest, but with the enemy after her, she might not get the chance to Sing for her island’s survival.

When her remote island was invaded by an enemy tribe, Jemilla must risk her own life, revealing her dangerous secrets in order to save her home. SWEET SILVER SONGS by Jordan Elizabeth is a young adult fantasy about prejudice, isolationism and the dangers of a culture unwilling to accept change as they are overrun by a warring faction. It’s also a tale of destiny.

Written for young adult readers, this fantasy embraces the magic of words, the determination of youth and change. Well-written, short and filled with just enough detail to feel the island, the frustration of one brave teen and her willingness to open her mind and heart to new possibilities.

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Jordan Elizabeth! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Another excellent book by this author. Her imagination takes you places you would otherwise never get to go. I am not the demographic that her books were written for, but I really enjoy them a lot. I think all ages would enjoy her books.

Jemella was born on an island protected from the rest of the world by magic songs that where only sung by the men of the family line. She was more powerful than any before. Invaders came and killed all the singers and enslaved the rest of the people. She fought back and brought forth a new age.

I love all of her books, this one is the strangest so far, but still a must read.

I don't know where to start with this review.....firstly, I'm not sure I have read another of Jordan's books quite like this one, but it really worked. The way she writes these books, her imagination must be one hell of a place to live. Jemilla really was my favourite character, and not just because she is the main character. But because she is written as a strong, passionate female who doesn't care what others think of her. I absolutely adored her.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I can always rely on this author to take me on a journey to some place different...straight out of my comfort zone.
Singers that control a world...or is it the songs that control them?
The story took me in circles, was he a good guy or a bad guy...no I didn't see that coming at all!
Jemilla was a great character, a strong young woman non conforming to her society.
Fantastic tale of adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Once again, the versatile Jordan Elizabeth returns to the fantasy/paranormal genre with a unique novel, Secret Silver Songs. With vampire-like men and demon-like creatures, the story takes the reader on a journey from an idyllic island to ruined cities, death and destruction.

Protagonist, Jemilla, is the daughter of the city's Singer - a man who can protect the city through the power of song. Life on the island is calm and peaceful; there is no crime, there is no danger, there is no fighting; so, no one was prepared for an invasion of blood-drinking Thistly. When her father is killed along with the majority of the population, there is no one left to save the island. Only men could become Singers, or so they claimed, but Jemilla is hiding a secret - she can Sing too.

At the beginning of the novel, Jemilla comes across as an anxious teenager, having been plagued by an overactive imagination for most of her life. Yet, as the story goes on, her frightening thoughts appear to be not as imaginary as she originally believed. A silver woman that no one but Jamilla can see taunts her daily and seems to want Jemilla to fail in her quest to save the island from the Thistly. Mid-story, however, alliances appear to change and Jemilla must figure out which team the silver woman is playing for and discover the truth about her home island.

From the very first chapter, Jordan Elizabeth captures the reader's attention with fast-paced action that never stills until the Epilogue. Taking aspects of history, such as rules for women written by men, the author subliminally advocates for women's rights. Secret Silver Songs demonstrates that enemies can be beaten but also that your true enemy may not be who you expect. Above all, never underestimate the power of song.

Jemilla lives in an Utopian patriarchy island. Everything is perfect and every body is happy following the rules of society, except maybe for a tiny group of rebels in her city. The rules include a lot of banning, such as banned of lingerie, romance novels, playing cards because that leads to gambling, any type of weapons unless it's inside of a museum and very clean history books.
The island is cut away from everything else, there are several cities there but people only rarely visit other cities, they seem to be all self sufficient. The cities are each rules by one Singer, a person with magical power over about everything from the weather to death itself. Jemilla's father is the Singer of his city and his son will be the next.

Jemilla has problems following the rules.

As the story progress Jemilla discovers that what she had been lead to believe isn't real and that her utopian island isn't as perfect as expected. We discover all the way she broke the rules and how other people have been breaking them too under the guise of respectability.
The more the story goes the more Jemilla gets pissed off at everything and everyone and especially as the passive, almost invisible role that was forced upon her as the Singer's daughter.

One advice, don't make her angry!

This book was really fun to read, I couldn't put it down. It's a bit of a feminist book with Jemilla learning her own power and finally making her own decision without needed other people's approval.

This is an epic fantasy and I loved every minute of this beautiful story. The author has created such vivid imagery and amazing characters that one can't help but fall in love with them.
This is a world where Singers rule every city on a secluded island. But when the island is invaded by Thistly Jemilla is there only hope. She is a daughter of a Singer and the only one who is brave enough to do something against the invaders. Thistly killed or captured all of the islanders. Jemilla ran away and now she is on a mission to sing her father back to life. Then he will know how to save them all.
Unfortunately, not everything goes as planned and there are secrets that no one knows about. Things forgotten in history books and they will threaten their world once again. Will Jemilla be able to help her fellow islanders until the very end or is their island doomed?
This is one thrilling story that won't bore you at all. The world created in this book is tragic and beautiful both at the same time. The story is fun to read and it ends well, which is another plus. Overall, it's a great read and I'd definitely recommend it to all fantasy lovers.

i received a free ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review. the book was slightly complicated for me. it took me struggling half way throught before i started walking in Jemilla's shoes. though i enjoyed her adventure, i didnt like the company of Krain. it was such a relief when he died.. even though he did come back.. the ending was my favorite part. im not exactly sure why she decided to switch sides so suddenly, but the twist & the surprise made it somewhat satisfactory.

This book had an incredibly interesting story line, I really enjoyed reading it. I liked that I found pieces of it unpredictable (and yet they fit together so nicely at the end), it kept the read quite captivating. A great fantasy world, though it could've used a little more world building in my opinion. Overall, an excellent read. Recommend!
