Savannah

This town ain't big enough for the two of us.
Which is why I left.

I was determined never to return to Hale, Texas. But when my new life in the Big Apple throws me a curve ball, I have to go back to tie up loose ends. One of those being him.

Jason Whitney was my first everything. Kiss, love, epic heartbreak. He shattered my world once upon a time, and apparently, he’s not done yet.

With old demons lurking around every corner, hightailing it out of my hometown is at the top of my list. Complete my unfinished business, and I get to leave any memory of my country existence behind.

Only, with each day I spend in it, with each moment I spend with him, I’m turning back into the girl who laid in the tall grass and swam in the creek all those years ago.

And I’m not sure that who I was is ready to let me go again.

Jason

We drew a line down the middle, and neither of us has crossed it.
That is, until Savannah Reese blew back into our hometown.

The day my high school sweetheart left, she took my whole heart with her. We promised each other forever, made plans that only teenagers could believe in, and crashed and burned on the grandest of scales.

When Savannah last saw me, I was a disgraced high school athlete. All washed up, I took it out on the only person who loved me. Then her world really fell apart, and I was too selfish to care.

Now she’s back, ready to sell the only remaining thing tying us to each other. I’ve been breaking my back for the last ten years not to think about her, not to be reminded of the love we shared.

But now that she’s right here, it’s impossible to forget how we used to be. Or let go of what we still are.

4.5⭐️ For this second chance romances!
This follows Savannah and Jason who were high school sweethearts and now everything has changed. Savannah returns back home to Texas after having facing some problems in New York. After she is gone for 10 years she returns to the small town, where she has to face Jason again. Their book was all the feels, seeing the way Jason truly loved Savannah made my heart melt! Their connection was so undeniable, even though they seemed like complete opposites on a lot of occasions. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Savannah’s in the beginning but as the story and their love progressed she did really grow on me. This is a really emotional and romantic read and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a really good second chance romance with great side characters!

*thank you Carrie Aarons for the opportunity!*

That's the Way I Loved You is a new standalone by Carrie Aarons that was such a delight to read. This small town, second chance romance is absolutely lush with feels and characters who are so genuine and relatable. I absolutely adored it.

Savannah and her boyfriend are attempting to purchase a penthouse in New York that they've had their eye on for some time. In the process, she learns there is debt to her name from a house she once shared with her first love. Apparently he didn't sell it and hasn't paid on it in years. Furious, she storms back to her hometown in Texas to confront her past, but not everything goes quite like she planned.

Jason has spent the last ten years trying to get over Savannah. When she left town it broke his heart, but he never gave up hope that she would one day return to him. So when she strolls back into town he is thrilled, but it's obvious that she does not feel the same. She is angry, wants the debt paid off and the house to be sold. He agrees to sell if she will help him fix up the place first. But working side by side, day after day, those old feelings soon reignite.

This was one heck of a beautiful romance loaded with heart, soul and southern charm. I loved seeing Savannah reconnect with her roots and find herself once again. I love how Jason never gave up on her after all of that time. The romance between these two was sizzling from the start, and I simply could not get enough of them. Five stars for Savannah, Jason and That's the Way I Loved You!

This book was filled with so much warmth! My heart swooned so hard so many times. The small town, country scenery was such a beautiful site to read about. Made me feel like I was part of the town. I loved it so much.

Jason freakin Whitney owns my heart completely. I adore the hero’s that this author creates. This is the third book I’ve ever read of hers and it’s another 5 star and where the hero is EVERYTHING!! Another book boyfriend for the books. Jason was filled with everything beautiful a country man should have and so much more. He was kind, generous, humbling, helpful, Witty, loving; I can go on and on. I adore this character so much. I love the Journey the author takes us on how first he’s angry that Savannah left him, but he still tries to fight for her. He knows what he wants and he goes and gets it.

Savannah is a roller coaster of a character for me. In the beginning I really didn’t like the person she portrayed about her materialistic side, but when the older her started to peek through oh my I adored her. I love the kind and loving side of her. Where she cared about real things. I loved her sass and her fire made her even more of a special character to me. Towards the end when her old self and her new and improved side blend in together it made me so happy for her. It’s like she was finally complete.

Their relationship put me through so many emotions, but it taught so much about life choices and I truly loved that. Their love, their chemistry, their sexual tension made this novel even more lovable. The secondary characters I fell in love with too. Made the whole small town even a cozier sight. Jason and Savannah’s ending was the one I was rooting for. It was so freakin sweet and I swooned so much. One moment I was giddy and the next my heart hurt for them. This story will stay with me for a while.

Savannah left behind her small Texas town the minute she landed in New York. She thought all that was left there was heartbreak, loss, and judgement, but when forced to return to settle some land issues she finds that home really is where the heart is. Friends and family welcome her back with open arms, but she's not prepared for the emotions that seeing her old love would stir in her. Jason Whitney has spent every day since Savannah ran trying to become a better man, a better man for her. He never knew if he'd get a chance to prove to her he's changed, but he's not missing the opportunity to try now. As old hurts surface Savannah tries to run again, but Jason knows the spark of life is once again being lit in her.

"Savannah Reese thinks she can just waltz back into town, have her way with it, and leave again like a breeze on the wind."

Small town, cute, and full of the good fluff. That's the Way I Loved You is just as promised, a second chance romance à la Sweet Home Alabama. Savannah is all New York City, Jason is all small town country boy, but the love they shared in their youth lives in that town. Savannah may fly in full of harsh words and a puffed ego, but the town centers her and I went from hating her to recognizing the pain that had made her that way. She's lost herself along the way and mixed into the romance is the story of Savannah finding herself again. The separated couple carry hurt, they share a past of heartbreak and loss and anger, but through the support of friends, family, and their own strong wills, they find their way back.

"Crazy in love, about each other, and just about every other shade of crazy under the sun."

So, I docked half a star for the first 20%, it took me a while to get into the book. Initially it was just too much like Sweet Home Alabama, the characters are very similar and some of the dialogue is too, but as it went on it became its own unique story. It went from too much to a few subtle references here and there that made me think of my favorite movie, but didn't feel like copying. Plus, That's the Way I Loved You is a lot less comedy and a whole lot more feelings. I swore I wasn't going to get teared up, but classic Carlene, I did indeed need some tissues.

"But that was once upon a time. And this was after the fallout."

A sweet, standalone romance for second-chance fans, That's the Way I Loved You was just the light romance read I needed. Low in angst, heavy on the feel good Carrie Aarons takes readers on a journey into Texas filled with sweet tea, pick up trucks, and friends that take you to the salon just to gossip.

If you like Sweet Home Alabama you will probably like this.

Does have cheating between MCs and they were with others in seperation, although for once only the heros past was very very vague compared to heroines as she has a fiance when the book opens.

Carrie is one my queens for go-to amazing romantic stories. She makes you believe in soul mate and true love and That's the Way I Loved You is another example of why.

This book is very swoon worthy and that's all because of Jason. Dear lord, anyone woman who is loved that hard and long by a man, she is in for a lifetime of romance.

Jason and Savannah were high school sweetheart. Then a terrible injury and unimaginable loss tore them apart. They were too young to understand and talk their way through the toughest times of their life and that caused the biggest riff in their relationship.

Savannah moved to New York to escape it all and start new. And start new, she does. She starts so new that she complete leaves everything and everyone in Texas behind; never once contacting anyone. But your past will always find a way into your present - your past is what shapes who you are today.

Jason has never once stopped love Savannah in the 10 years she has been gone. He has thrown himself into his work and helping others to avoid thinking of her and the heartache he feels deep in his soul. And he discovers Savannah blowing into town, he wastes no time in seeing why she's here and how to get her to stay. However, she isn't the girl that left Hale ten years ago. The Savannah has more edge and suspicion behind her eyes. But he knows deep down, the girl he loves is still in there.

Carrie is an artist at writing characters that will have hear readers drooling over and rooting for. As this story moved along, I feel in love with Jason more and more. Savanna took a bit more to warm up to but she eventually came around and I can see why Jason has loved her all this time.

This story is sweet and sugary and everything readers want in a romance. There is little bit of angst but overall, it is just a sweet romance that will readers smiling for days. Another great story from Carrie Aarons.

I loved this book! Savannah and Jason’s love story is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever read!

I fell in love with these characters right from the start. I loved more than anything how real, flawed and honest they are. Their chemistry, that connection between them and banter was everything! Even when they were fighting you could feel that there was so much love between them, I couldn’t get enough of them together.
The way Jason loves Savannah... gah! His love for her is one of the most beautiful things I’ve read about! He is definitely book boyfriend material,I was swooning over him all the time.
This is the second book I read by Carrie Aarons and she is slowly becoming one of my favorite authors. I’m in awe of her writing style. I know that I will be reading her older books and I’m already impatient to see what she has next in store for us.

That’s The Way I Loved You was beautiful, real and emotional read. It was unputdownable and so,so good! I honestly cannot recommend it more!

Sweet southern tea this was.
I really liked this. What got me hooked from the beginning was Jason's longing for Savvy.
Cute.
It kind of is the book version of the movie Sweet Home Alabama-

The thing is, your heart is always going to do whatever the hell it wants. Even if it means it's going to get broken.

Savannah and Jason were high school sweethearts from a small town in Texas. When things went left she got up and left and headed to NY. Savannah left behind everything and everyone she loved including Jason and her siblings. Fast forward 10 years and she finally returns but not to stay like everyone thinks. She had unfinished business with Jason. The chemistry between these two was strong but so was the animosity. He still loved her and she realized she still did too but she didn’t think they were on the same level anymore. At first she comes across very cold and disconnected from her small town roots. But very slowly she started noticing what she missed for the past ten years and it started tugging at her heart. Jason started working his magic to try and get her back but they were somethings that needed to be clarified before they moved on. It was great seeing these two get back together and I liked that nothing was rushed. They fought hard and loved hard. Jason biggest cheerleaders were Savannah’s siblings. Beautiful ending.

As soon as I read that this book is inspired by one of my favorite movies I knew that I need to read it. I pictured the actors from the movie all the time in my head, and I loved this book from the beginning to the end.
This is a small town, enemies to lovers romance and you get just enough amount of both in this book. I loved the small town scenery and the secondary characters, which are the people that lived in Hale, Texas. They just made this book so cozy.
If you have seen the movie then you probably know that the main female character returns to her hometown because of some unfinished business. The same happens here...
Savannah returns to Hale after ten years as a changed woman, she has grown up, she has accomplished something in her life and she is happy with the life she has in New York. Or at least she thinks so.... At first I didn't like her character so much, because she had changed so much living in the Big Apple, everything about her was materialistic and she didn't show emotions.... Well until she saw Jason, her high school love and the man for whom she thought is the love of her life.
Jason is such an amazing character. I love how Carrie portrayed him. He is a true southern man, always helpful, kind, generous, loving, a perfect book boyfriend and husband material.
In order not to spoil anything I will leave you with the thought that got proved to me by reading this book, and that is, although love is the crucial element for a relationship or marriage, one of the most important things is compromise as well, and why is that, you'll find out by reading this book.

I was really looking forward to reading this book. I have a soft spot for small town romances and Texas romances ❤️ I dropped the book I was reading the moment this one hit my kindle.

Following Fool Me Twice wasn’t going to be easy but Carrie made it look so easy. She nailed this book! It is officially one of my favorite small town romances. A second chance romance you do not want to sleep on.
This book was absolutely dreamy and full of southern charm. I found myself screaming “omg yes” throughout this book. I was 36% into the book when I realized I was highlighting everything 😅.

“With Jason? It’s all instinct. All heart. No logic and no rational thought; our souls love each other on a level that is kismet. There will never be a time that my heart won’t belong to him, and it knows it.”

The stories inside are as beautiful as the covers on the outside 💜
I wanted to burst into tears when I finished this book 😭.
I was sad it was over.

Another horrible leading man

This will be brief. This author goes out of her way to yet again give us a leading man who i absolute garbage. He sulks in self pity. Telling the woman he loves that he doesn't have time for her crap when her mother passed away. Telling her he doesn't care that she just had to bury her. And 10 years later he still is hostile towards Savannah because she left him. He considers this worse than what he did. After she comes back he intentionally tries to hurt her. Repeatedly taking joy in making her mad or cry. At one point calling her a moron. I could go on but he is trash from beginning to end. This author makes him so unlikable that there is no way i would ever root for this immature, self centered, petty, jealous, controlling man to ever get the girl. I continue to be amazed at how the authors in this genre refuse to give us decent leading men. Also, Savannah is a cheater and this book is a rip off of Sweet Home Alabama.

4.5 Stars!

That’s The Way I Loved You is the ultimate second chance small town romance, about how Savannah and Jason reconnect when she returns home after ten years to tie up loose ends before going back to the new life, she’s built for herself in New York.

Savannah is all set with the perfect life, the handsome Wall Street boyfriend Perry, the high-class friends, her dream job and is about to sign on for the skyrise penthouse in the heart of New York. Until a credit check is run, and it shows she has some outstanding debt on a piece of property back in Hale, Texas, her small country town she ran from a decade ago to escape the life she once lived. When she arrives back in town, she travels to the shack she once dreamed of living in with her high school sweetheart, so it’s a surprise when she bumps into him at their spot. Jason has never left Hale, having had a life altering injury, leaving his hopes and dreams crushed. He never expected Savannah to appear back in town, as did her siblings, but now she’s back, he realises this is his chance to fix everything that went wrong all those years ago and convince her that he is still the man she fell in love with. Their chemistry is still there, it’s just hidden behind bitterness and anger. Jason makes a deal with Sav that if she helps him fix up the shack, then he will buy her half from her and she can run back to New York and to her life. But as the spend time together, Sav reverts back to her small-town ways and realises how much she’s missed Hale, her family, and Jason. Once the shack is complete, will Jason have done enough to convince Sav of his love for her? Will she go back to her big city life or stay in Hale? Or, will she be able to find something in between to allow them both to truly find happiness?

This story was so amazing, I adore small town country romances. Sav and Jason had explosive chemistry, you could clearly see the love between them was still there from the offset, but they were just too young and were put through traumatic experiences and didn’t know how to react, so pushed the other away. When they reunite, older and with more life experience, they truly fit. Carrie’s writing is amazing as always, I loved the setting and the descriptions of Hale and the surrounding areas. The secondary characters added more depth to the story and made Hale seem more like a small town, I felt like I was coming home with Savannah.

Savannah was independent and determined, having lived in New York for so long. But she craved stability, something she found with Perry, but she never had that deep connection like she did with Jason. She grew as a person in New York but didn’t realise what she was missing until she returned to Hale and realised that to be truly happy, she needed both. Hale reignite the sassy, fiery side of her she lost in New York and brought back how to appreciate the small things in life. She reconnects with her siblings and old friends, but she adores her job in NYC and the independence she found there. Savannah really grew in this book, I didn’t really like her materialistic side at the start but the more she opened up and parts of her old self started shining through, I respected her so much for the difficult choices she had to make at such a young age and how she stood by her dreams and refused to sacrifice them. At the end when her old self and new and improved blended together, she was finally happy and complete. I loved her character and Jason really was her perfect match, they balanced each other out perfectly.

Jason, being the popular athlete in school, was dealt a hard hand after his dreams were taken away from him. After Savannah left, he truly made something of himself and became the best kind of man, caring, generous, humbling, funny, helpful and so loving, I adored him. But he never let Savannah go and when she returns, although he is still angry with how she left him, he does everything he can to clear the air between them to make way for the possibility of reconciliation. Although this proves harder than he thought, he doesn’t give up, but he also doesn’t push her and brag about his life, he knows that it’s who a person is that’s important and not what he has, something he wants Savannah to realise and see that he has not changed from the person she knew. When he opens up with is feelings and is honest about what he wants, I swooned hard. His apology for how things ended was heartfelt and sweet, everything made so much more sense after.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, it had minimal angst but a lot of love. Second chance romances are the best because it gives you hope and proves that sometimes the timing just isn’t right for couples but that doesn’t mean they aren’t a fit. Jason and Savannah got the happily ever after they deserved, and I loved it!

That's the Way I loved You

I really like books written by Carrie Aarons. They are so sweet, warm and totally homely.
„That's the Way I Loved You” is the next book from this author, which I've read.
And I totally love it.

The small town, country scenery and two adult people, which need a second chance to love each other.
Savannah returns to her family town from New York, she wants to close everything here and come back to her boyfriend, which is the Wall Street businessman. She is really sceptical to back to home, but the things must be done and she has not have choice.
First day at home is unusuall, becasue Sav meets her exboyfriend Jason.

Ah! Jason Whitney is a perfect bookish boyfriend for all of us. I really love this guy and his attitude to life. He is a simple, country man. He is clever, generous and totally helpful. Like perfect „neighborhood guy”. I don't know how Carrie Aarons does this, but all of hers heroes I totally love from the first page.

The chemistry between Savannah and Jason are like pure hell. It is slow burn, but when it all finally started, everything burn. The tension between these heroes, love and hate (yes! Both of them) are so good in this story. I was in this book from the first page and I totally love „That's the Way I loved You”.

In the end I must say, that Carrie Aarons knows how to write a really good story with a simple plot. This was a powerful and emotional book and I think that „That's the Way I loved You” will be with me really long time.

As teenagers Savannah and Jason had their future planned together until life threw them a curve ball that neither was able to recover from. Savannah’s response to dealing with the situation was to leave and never look back but fate had other plans as the new future she has planned is in jeopardy is she doesn’t fix the past.

Jason regrets the way that his relationship ended with Savannah and he is no longer the man she knew but the love he has for her is stronger than ever. It may have been a decade since he saw her but now that she is back in town, he is determined to get her back into his life and isn’t above a little arrangement to ensure that happens.

This is an emotional story about two people who were torn apart by the obstacles life threw at them, and not because they didn’t love each other. The chemistry and connection between them is stronger than ever but first they must heal from the past.

Still!

When Savannah is attempting to buy the apartment of her dreams with her boyfriend, Perry, she discovers her old life still has its claws out and wants her back! Travelling from New York to Texas, she goes to get the debts outstanding in a house paid off so that she can run back to her life. Fate, however has other ideas! Savannah comes face to face with her ex, Jason and the old feelings are still there but stronger than ever! How will Savannah resolve all the issues and feelings? Will she go back to Perry or stay with Jason? I loved this story as it was like seeing old friends and hoping that they patch up their differences. The chemistry between them burned brightly as did their emotions. Carrie is one of my favourite authors, pulling me into each book and wrapping me in love!

That's the Way I Loved You was a delightful read. This small town, second chance romance is absolutely rich in its feels and characters who are so likeable and relatable. I adored every moment of this story.

I loved this romance, with its heart and southern charm. The romance between these two characters was scorching from the very beginning, and I thoroughly enjoyed the drama and the dynamics not only from the main characters but from all the secondary characters. It was a joy seeing Savannah reconnect with her roots and find herself once again. Likewise I absolutely loved Jason’s unwavering love for Savannah, his utter devotion and how he never gave up on her. A wonderful book from Carrie Aarons.

I loved this one. I was hooked from beginning to end. Savannah left Hale, Texas and never looked back until now. Everything is going great for her in New York City but there is a wrench in her plan and she forced to go back to Hale and fix things. She has a pass with Jason. They were high school sweethearts but now she dreads seeing him. I so was hooked and wanted to know what happened to them and why she left town. They have both grown since Savannah left. She doesn't want to like Jason but connection is sill there. Jason is sweet and nice and doesn't want to let his change o win Savannah back go. Savannah has a lo to deal with. She has to work on the issues of the past and while as present time stuff. I really loved these two together and they had a great story.

This book was exactly what you would expect from a southern small town love story. I love when everyone knows everyone and all of their business. It makes for the best heartfelt moments but also those moments when the characters are ready to pull their hair out because of all the nosey nelly’s. I loved Savannah’s sassy attitude and Jason was so swoon worthy. The push and pull between them was perfection and their chemistry sent sparks all the way through my kindle! After reading this story I’m ready to pack up and move to Hale, Texas...I wonder if their cabin is available??

This book has been described as a play on the movie Sweet Home Alabama and I could definitely see some of the same themes throughout. Savannah and Jason were childhood sweethearts but life altering events had her flee to New York City. Flash forward 10 years and she’s back to clear an old debt and get back to NYC! She doesn’t anticipate what events can unfold in the small town of Hale, Texas and the impact they will have on her life moving forward.
Carrie does a wonderful job of character building in this small town romance. It was a quick, light read with romance and a tinge of angst.
