A frightened heiress and a notorious border lord take on a vicious murderer...
Robbie McCray is a Scottish rogue-sinfully handsome, wildly wicked, a notorious lover of beautiful women-and just the man she needs to help preserve her inheritance. Julia Cameron has lost her father, her brother, and has no intention of losing anything else. Approaching the infamous rakehell with a proposition he can't refuse, she finds that making a deal with the devil brings some unexpected earthy rewards...

What's a man to do when a gorgeous woman lands on his doorstep, offering her luscious body and a small fortune to sweeten the bargain? The wager is a little steep, but not prohibitive to a man who has built a reputation taking the most outlandish chances. If Robbie calls her hand, the commitment is for a lifetime, but then again, he so rarely ever loses...from the author of the best-selling romance titles THE SWITCH and HOSTAGE MOON.

Emma was born in Minnesota and she lives in the Midwest, though she grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She attended Illinois State University where she majored in geology, and there she met her husband, Chris. They have three children, a temperamental cat named Poot, and are lucky enough to live on a beautiful lake. On warm days, she does enjoy a glass of wine on the dock now and then, and always loves to sit at her desk, winter or summer, and tap at her keyboard.

Julia seeks out Robbie McCray, womanizer and master fighter to protect her by marrying her. She believes her cousin, to whom she was sort of betrothed, murdered her father and brother and that logically, to get her inheritance, she might be next.

This story requires a bit of suspension of disbelief, that a rake like Robbie would be romantic and willing to marry, given that he is a walking STD. But that aside, the story itself is pretty good in isolation. Yes, it's more erotica than traditional romance and yes, some of the characters are a little wooden and stereotypical.

SPOILERS for a previous story here: I rather wish that I had read this as a stand alone, but knowledge of the previous story rather ruins Robbie for me. In the previous story, Robbie claimed to be so in love with his cousin's "woman" that he eagerly took the opportunity to have sex with her for an hour when his cousin offered. In this story, Robbie never once mentions or thinks about how much he supposedly loved Leanna. He seems well and truly over her and his love for her doesn't seem to affect him anymore. So I'm rather disappointed in his character then that he would so casually risk his cousin's happiness and possible future marriage just to shag his future sister-in-law.

Surprisingly well written for a short erotic romance - the plot is developed and not just a backdrop for sex, the characters are likeable, the setting seems real. Unfortunately, however, the story is short enough that a few of the characters come off as stereotypes - the typical scheming villainess, for example, and her weak sniveling brother - but that is almost to be expected.
