I remember, as a brand new mother, singing Rock a Bye Baby to my newborn and becoming horrified at the words I had never once paid attention to. Here I was singing about a baby falling from a tree. I thought about all the lullabies I knew and realized that most were filled with images that I was uncomfortable filling my child’s head with. These days I chalk it up to new parent jitters, after all, I had listened to and sung these songs all my life and hadn’t been scarred by them. Still, that memory is vivid and it made me appreciate this little book all the more.
Author Brittany Plumeri takes us on a journey through the most time tested lullabies to find just the perfect one to soothe a little one to sleep. She concludes, of course, that the security of a mother’s arms and surety of a mother’s love is actually the perfect lullaby.
The artwork of Eva Rodriguez perfectly captures the essence of the message. With its sleepy purple theme and toddler-friendly images, this will be a book that little ones ask for time and again.
What a sweet picture book! The message is beautiful, and the full-page illustrations go with the words perfectly. The pictures are colorful but not too bright, and the backgrounds are richly, deeply darker—perfect for a bedtime story. I thought the cover was gorgeous, and that same care and attention to detail are seen throughout the book. But the most wonderful part of this book is the story itself. It is about a mother rocking her child to sleep, at first thinking of the traditional lullabies that she could sing to help the baby slumber. But, for various reasons, she doesn't like her lullaby choices. At the end of the book, she realizes that the baby is now asleep; the child has fallen asleep to its favorite lullaby: Mother's voice that reflects her love. Absolutely endearing and the perfect “nigh-nigh” book (as we called them when my oldest nephew was young) for infants and toddlers.
If I tried to remember some lullabies in my language, I think most of them are silly, no matter the language, but children like them. However, it is indeed the heartbeat of a mother what the babies love above any other thing. Once I saw on TV a story about a newborn baby who was declared dead by the doctors. The mum’s baby wanted to hold him (I don’t remember if it was a boy or a girl) to say goodbye. She puts the baby against her chest and started talking to him between sobs. After a while, the baby’s heart started beating. That was so amazing, I will never forget it. The illustrations in the book are very beautiful, full of mums rocking their babies to sleep. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a beautiful book! I had tears in my eyes as I read it. Love the lyrical text, and the gorgeous illustrations of mama and baby animals. This touching bedtime story, tells about mothers who try to find the perfect lullaby, to sing to their babies. It is clever, as it mentions some classic lullabies, and tells why they don't seem right. The baby falls asleep, and the mama realizes that the perfect lullaby, is her heartbeat. I think it also means, we may search far and wide for things to soothe our babies. But what they need most, is to be held, loved, and nurtured by their devoted parents. Kids and adults will enjoy this sweet, special book!
Adorable! You can tell this came from a loving heart! Very enjoyable for three reasons. First, the illustrations are gorgeous. There’s something about bubbled, rounded shapes! Super cute! Second, I love how the author hints at certain rhymes. The book serves as a great springboard to go exploring those specific rhymes for very young children or to guess which ones are being referenced for more experienced listeners/readers. Third, the rhythm of the book flows well and is soothing - perfect for a lullaby book!
A perfect lullaby with perfect illustrations! With the richness of the colors, yet the simplicity of the rhymes, this picture book will absorb your children's attention from beginning to end. The illustrations are a lullaby by themselves and the soft musings of the mother are a charm. A wonderful book to add to your nighttime bedtime collection.
Oh my goodness this book is so cute! I love that the parent is talking about old lullabies as she’s trying to get her child to go to sleep. It was emotional and heartfelt and so special! Absolutely loved this book! Totally recommend it as a bedtime story. 1000% yes to this book!
This is the sweetest story! Children will love all the Mama animals and their babies. Adults will love all the references to nursery rhymes they grew up with. The lyrics are wonderful! The illustrations are beautiful! The message that nothing compares to a Mama’s loving heart is perfect!
This story has a very sweet message. It does seem to overtly be about a mother's heartbeat putting her baby to sleep, but I also feel there's the deeper sentiment: "Whatever you do for your child, if it's coming from you, it's enough. Don't be fancy or inauthentic. YOU are what your child needs."
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book to my little one. I enjoyed the way it was written and full of rhymes. I look forward to exploring other books by this author that writes so eloquently.
This is a very sweet story about trying to find the perfect lullaby. The author uses a play on classic lullabies which I really enjoyed. The best part is the sending. The story is short, simple, and sweet with equally sweet illustrations.
My favorite part of this story is seeing the different animals with their babies in their environment. Also, the message of the story is wonderful. There's nothing like mom's own lullaby. I just didn't like the rhyme structure. Wish it was just prose.
This picture book stole my heart with its gorgeous illustrations! It paints a stunning portrait of the mother-child bond during bedtime, where the world melts away and only love and connection remain.
I read this book while rocking my baby to sleep. At the end I was crying and my heart overflowed with love! Thank you for translating this amazing feeling for us! The illustration is beautiful ❤️
This beautiful book is a lullaby from a mother to her child. The art is stunning and shows mother animals with their babies as they drift off to sleep. A wonderful bedtime story and a great baby shower gift for anyone.
