A good, basic review or start, depending on where your context. I like using the seven dimensions of religion, outlined in the first chapter, when hearing how the average, non-academic person talks about their beliefs: experiential, mythic, doctrinal, ethical, ritual, social, and material.

A Catholic textbook on the World Religions aimed at students aged 14-16. I have taught out of this book for three years. It gives an excellent overview of the major religions, however it sometimes focuses a bit too much on trying to blend all religions to reach monotheistic conclusions. I enjoyed reading out of this book, but if you are looking for a text along the same lines but with a higher reading level pick up Huston Smith's The World's Religions instead. Is what it is. And that is all we can be.

I've always wanted to understand the teachings of every major world religions, but could never find the right book. This book is actually the textbook used in many Catholic secondary schools to teach world religions. I found the book fascinating, well written and researched. I learned a great deal about the similarities and differences of every major religion. Great book for building tolerance and understand of other faiths. Really glad I read it.

Easy to read with manageable chapters. Good for people that are learning the basics. Activities to help with understanding and chapter questions to help with studying. Also, has clear definitions. Good use of italics and bold. Includes personal stories and small excerpts of information. Pictures of decent quality.

Good clear, organized information. It's pretty much a text book, but the references are good. There are also lots of good pictures. Every religion I have heard of is covered.
