Patrick Georges Laplante was born in a small town in the Canadian prairies in 1987. He began publishing Painting the Mists online under the pseudonym RedMirage in January 2018.

An engineer by trade, he graduated from the University of Alberta in 2009 and completed his master's degree in 2011. While writing and engineering have little in common, he actively utilizes his experiences and attention to detail in fleshing out a vivid world and answering the "whys," which are often left unanswered in Xianxia fiction.

As an avid vegan, he aims to prompt internal reflection in his readers through various themes like non-violence, choice, and begging the question: Is personhood restricted to humanity? And what is proper conduct, morality, and love?

His work is inspired by a combination of Western fiction, Dungeons and Dragons, Chinese web novels, and various Japanese, Korean, and Chinese comics and illustrated novels.

Patrick's hobbies include: reading, board games, and taekwondo.

I think I’ve had enough of these. They’re getting very same-y.

I think the only reason I'm not claiming this series has "jumped the shark" is because we've been brought so gradually to this insane point. The protagonist can now take on the appearance of any person or animal and then force people to remember a false history of his existence. If that's not a broken skill-set then I don't know what could be.

It's still a fun tale, that's worth the price. I can't help feeling that it could have offered more.

We see the hero asking the question, "Is it right to harm the innocent in order to punish the guilty and prevent future evil?" Sadly we don't get to explore the topic, instead, the reader is taken straight to violent retribution. I doubt Laplante could discover the perfect answer to an age-old question. It would have been nice to see his alter-ego struggle with the morality of the situation a bit more though.

It was good I enjoy the book The Plot was enjoyable and the main character has finally started making some serious hack Headway into a problem that's lasted throughout most of the series at this point it was it was it was amazing and also quite well written High fantasy can driving really hahaha brings you to another world which is very nice it's a good distraction from the disappointing reality that we currently live in

Better than the last

The series matures and changes a bit, the idealism of the character is contrasted with the reality and the weight of their past choices.

But the story is too focused on the two most annoying characters in detriment of the most interesting characters.

I wish they just killed the hero and give Wang Jun sub-plot and Fox sub-plot a better angle.

Perfect addition

This series has been one of, if not my favorite of the entire wuxia/cultivation genre. There is a great progression, multiple stories that all intertwine, humor, and a great amount of detail. I am excited to read the many more books to come in Cha Ming's journey

A wonderful addition to a favorite series!

Fast paced with lots of great battle scenes, deep intrigue, moral choices and character development, this is a solid addition to Patrick's epic Wuxia series. I'm now eagerly awaiting book 9!

Another successful story in this series!

Exactly everything I want in this series, intrigue, fights, adventure, and just about everything you’ll ever want too! Just as good, if not better, than the previous books!

Love this series

Really good book. So many threads of fate being woven throughout this world. Good, bad...and very evil. Love all the characters and the others they run into. Worth reading.

I'm starting to wonder if it's really 1 person writing every book in this series because half of them are just meh while the other half are great. The inconsistency is starting to make me wonder if the author is suffering from split personality. Whatever it is this series is really great expect for when it isn't ex book 3 & 7 where the worst books in the series so far imho.

Now on to the review for this one: It was awesome I loved it and found it very interesting. Also finally Jole didn't know everything before it happened, cause holy shit was that getting old and I mean real old. Great world building as always and a very interesting plot continuation. I love the character growth for the MC since he has always been a bit naive and too kind.
