Adventures of an Indian Techie
Who said all techies have something to do with technology? Welcome to the world of Indian techies. Here you will find two different techie species: The “916 techies” who are the real deal – the hardcore techies, who eat, sleep and breathe technology – and on the other side the “1-gram techie” – the ones who are in the world of IT just to earn a living. Theirs is a special case of being “talk-nologists” instead of “technologists.” This is the story of a 1-gram techie. He chose computers for his post-graduation when the only thing he knew about it was the spelling. He came out of the college armed with nothing but the confidence to be a “talk-nologist”– simply because he was good at cooking up stories. And cooking up he did about how passionate he was about computers, how deeply he was in love with the company whose placement drive he was attending, how good looking the interviewer was and many more. In no time, he was part of an Indian IT services company. There started his tryst with the IT industry. In that world, he was a wolf in sheep’s skin. Here he will confess whatever he has done, share whatever he has seen, unearth everything he has witnessed… an uncut, unrated version of everything he has to say. Ssshh… this is for your eyes only.

This book explores the life of an Indian techie just as what kind of situations he has to go through just because he is a "techie "
.
I felt like I am reading a comic book and a serious situation both at the same time.
If you're an Indian and thinking to become a techie or if you already are then you can very well relate to the situations and dramas that our protagonist goes through.
.
The adventure of an Indian techie unfolds the life of an Indian techie who is asked to repair a computer because he has a tag of a techie, people even consider him an "electrician " because he is a techie. All in all, people even think that a techie is supposed to everything related to technical issues.
.
Even the corporate jobs in the technical field are defined very well. I loved reading this book as it will make you laugh and the situations are very much relatable. Nothing is over imagined or defined which makes it a great read.

This is the story of a software engineer who tells about his life after becoming a techie.
He tells about the woes of all the techies in a way which is both funny and true.
He talks about how he was grilled at family gatherings, how everyone thinks that techies can fix anything and how techies are asked to follow the advice of a non techie boss.
It is mentioned that there are two different species of techies - the 916 techie, who are the hardcore techies, who eat, sleep and breath technology and the other one is the 1 gram techie, who are in the world of IT just to earn a living. 1 gram techies are called talknologists instead of technologists.
Overall the book is filled with humour and I enjoyed reading the book.

Book Title: Adventures of an Indian Techie
Author: Nipun Varma
Format: Kindle
Book Title:
The title of the book ' Adventures of an Indian Techie ' is very comical and realistic
Book Cover:
The cover image of the book is an animated illustration of a job holder with mighty skyscrapers in the background.
Inside the book:
Did your father or mother ask you to repair the desktop or the laptop in the house because it's running slow and just because you are a techie?
Did you face humongous lecturers about how techies spend their lives from a relative who hates techies for some reason?
Did you fail to understand how working in a techno park leads you to be a SPOC ( special point of contact) among the relatives whose children aspire to work at your place?
Did you anytime want to lie about being a techie just because people expect a lot from you?
Did you anytime want to harm your manager for his relentless directions to work on something?
Did you anytime regret being a gem in technical knowledge?
Then, this book is for you. This book by Nipun Varma is a very holistic approach into the world of techies all around the world. The meetings, the war room days, the presentations, the appraisals, the expectations, the resumes, the con calls, the new job hunts, the weekends and so on that happen in the life of a techie is presented to the readers in a very jocular manner.
What I like:
1. The funny take on how a ' techie ' faces embarrassing situations in his\her life.
2. The reality that happens in between the relatives and close people when you have a job in IT
3. The misconceptions that people generally have about techies is presented in an interesting manner
4. The attitude of the public towards a techie in an Indian family is illustrated in a funny way yet honest way.
5. The dark sides of a techie's life in personal and professional areas is very elegantly written
What I didn't like:
Ah! This was and is my life and thus there is nothing in the book to be disliked.
Characters:
Every character introduced in the book is 100% realistic and every reader can relate it to self and people around.
Narration:
A lighter, sensible and chucklesome narration is found in the book.
Language & Grammar:
Simple and easy grammar is used in the book. The jargons that pertain to techies might not interest people from non-techie jobs.
My Final Verdict:
Life of a techie in a witty manner

Adventures of an Indian Techie delineate some of the fanciful and wacky moments in the life of a Tech guy. It's a rapid read, written in a casual tone, and is gratifying from time to time. shriek and learn as you read about some of the funniest Techie problems and the teams’ reactions to the same in this light, fun and epigrammatic collection of stories from a tech guy who is in the IT field more than sixteen years.
The cover of the book looks appealing and meaningful. The book is written with simple and in a natural way. Applause to the author.
In short, it’s a “Terrific book”. These types of books can stand alone. But I find they are even more marvelous because we know the characters so well and they are very familiar to us. If you are in the IT field you may feel that the author has picked up your story, the whimsical moments of IT, and the reality of IT field. How the “Techie” word is mis -understood by non-IT people, some hilarious moments quoted by the author in a nice way. If you are a Techie, how your relative’s expectation level sores up, but the real rundown is quite different. The performance appraisal and the managers Stereo typed, replies are sublimely written by Nipun Verma. Overall, outside world is having a belief that all Techies are living a wonderful and stress-free life but Nipun Verma has interpreted the real difficulties and how every techie is going thru their overdo work life. For a common man, if you are a hardware or a software engineer, it doesn’t matter they may think, you can easily solve all computer related issues and even they are under the assumption that you will be able to assemble a PC within hours’ time. Like these, lot of funniest clippings are written in a stylish way.
A good book should be written like this, so that any age group can enjoy it. Overall this is a great read

There started his tryst with the IT industry. In that world, he was a wolf in sheep's skin.
Here he will confess whatever he has done, share whatever he has seen, unearth everything he has witnessed... an uncut, unrated version of everything he has to say.
Ssshh... this is for your eyes only.
🔮Character Building:
The character building was done through details and dialogues. Since this book was about a Indian Techie and his adventures, despite the protagonist the other characters weren't described well.
✒️Language & Diction: The language is simple and easy to understand. The diction of words played a key role in it. It was chuckle-some and relatable. "See-my-hubby-is-not-as-useless-as-he-looks expression"
📝Writing Style: The author's writing style was gripping and flawless. It was interesting to read a techie book written by a techie himself.

'Adventures of an Indian Techie' by Nipun Varma is a book that revolves around the day to day life of an employee working for IT company. So, this is a story of a 1 gram techie as the author mentions and how people around them have certain fixed conceptions about IT people which are far away from the actual reality. People are curious to know if this techie knows a certain person or the position of the techie and comparing them to someone else. All these instances are hilariously covered in this book. To know more read 'Adventures of an Indian Techie'.
My Thoughts:
Author has hilariously cited the experiences of the daily life an Indian techie faces. There are certain believes that people have about IT people and the author has answered them in such a way that the readers will be rolling with laughter throughout the book. Language is simple and lucid and I really liked the writing style of the author which really keeps the readers connected throughout the book since it is written in first person POV.
Overall, I really loved reading this book and would really recommend this book to everyone.

Being an engineer myself, I am always in the lookout for the books that can talk about the sorry state of affairs of technocrats but rarely I have found any. When I came across this,I couldn't stop myself from picking it up.
The book revolves around the life of a techie guy from both a personal and professional viewpoint. On one side, it talks about the everyday struggles that the IT professional faces in his office, with manager, clients, daily meetings, presentations and on the other it also mentions the expectations of relatives from you on the personal front.
The most noticeable part of the book is its no nonsense humorous approach which I was actually able to relate to. The way software engineers are considered to be the solution and be all and end all of all problems is mentioned in a witty and satirical way. The cover page is very attractive and it definitely makes the readers pick the book readily. The narration is decent and book scores full marks in entertainment factor.

This book is an excellent satire on the life of Indian IT engineers, who struggles to get a satisfying professional life.
The author has included almost all the points, which represent the condition of techies in India. Though this book represents techies, I believe that almost all the working professional can relate to the book. Especially the increment part.
Written from the POV of first-person, this book goes on to explain the pain of being a techie, where people ask them to repair their computer, where they must go through with proper training of using fork and knife, where they have to tackle the situation of being a techie among the relative. Overall, being a techie is not an easy job and you can get a glimpse by reading the book.
The author has used a wise satire and I laughed throughout the book.
This is a quick, amazing and hilarious read, which should be read by everyone!

Do you remember when you were young and had dreams? Dreams to become a pilot or an astronaut or an artist or a dancer maybe? We all do. And so do we remember the time and date when we chose not to follow our dreams, but instead, we followed the herd. The herd following was a result of many factors, which I won’t delve into, but the foremost was, and always will be parental/peer pressure. Talking about herds, you must know of the engineers-boom that has happened/happening in our country. Am sure everyone who has not been living under the Earth’s inner crust knows about it. Adventures of an Indian Techie by Nipun Varma is a compilation of incidents from the life of a software engineer working in the vast Indian IT sector trying to fit himself in between the big shots and the nowheres while trying to manage the big Indian family.
The unnamed “Techie” works in an IT company in the Technopark, the hep and coveted destination for all things technological. There, he explains, work two kinds of techies, the 1 gram techie who pretends to know the technology, and the 961 techie who actually knows. Needless to say, our protagonist falls under the former category. Walking under work pressure, crawling under client demand and burying himself under the yearly appraisal is his second nature. Not to mention, the Boss who is his life’s Komolika. Also, navigating the IT minefield without stepping on the embedded 916 techies is a task in itself. As our 1 gram techie juggles work and the constant grilling of his extended family, who torture him with questions like “Do you know Mr. XYZ?” or “What position are you at? My relative’s relative’s relative is a big shot.”, he manages to find humor and some romance in his life. After all, it’s better to have the best gold than low-cost diamonds.
Written in simple English understandable to all, the narration is a mix of dialogues and background information, though I think it could have been better with a little more detailed editing. It’s a breezy read, I devoured it in just about an hour. The author draws highly from Indian life. The adventures are littered with comparisons and metaphors, smart and stupid alike. Bollywood is a major part of the narration and quite relatable. In fact, the similarities are so eerily similar, that it feels I know the protagonist! You see, my husband, my cousin, my friends, all work in the IT industry. The situations the protagonist finds himself in, be it the urgent client demand or the highly perplexing multi-layered yearly appraisal explanation by the boss or the “Can you fix my computer?” by a naive neighbor, it all gives me a sense of deja vu. Having heard these instances with a different sufferer each time, I think I could have written a book myself!
On another note, the hilarity of the anecdotes in the book undermines their seriousness. The pressures of work trickle down to personal life and vice versa and only a handful of the affected are capable to cope. For the rest, it’s work-life imbalance and depression/anxiety. As much as we’d like to make fun of such things, it was and will remain a serious issue. It’s good to have such books around, lightening up the mood and the workplace and indirectly bringing the problems to light.
Should you read this book? Definitely, not only because it’s a fun read and someday might be made into a sitcom, but also because it reinforces the statement “When life gives you lemons, grab tequila and salt.”

I was laughing badly with every turn of the page.
Adventures Of An Indian Techie is a memoir or you can say - a collection of experiences ( read hilarious experiences ) of an Indian techie in this Indian society. We all have heard or said at least one thing to the techies - "Can you just see why my computer/laptop/scanner/keyboard/everything related to it, isn't working"? No? At least I have done it numerous times and when I read something similar in this book, it cracked me up completely.
Welcome to the world of IT, where some people are real technologists while some are just talk - nologists, as the author likes to call it. In today's time, IT is a boon and so many people are amused by it but not everyone is as enthusiastic as others are. Some are barely working to make a living. Well that's okay.
Author Nipun is moreover a stand up comedian apart from doing distinct things skillfully and it clearly reflects in his writings. The book is really a quick read but can calm your exhausted mind if you read it. I am a non - techie so of course I wasn't going to understand anything which is "technical" and author exceptionally maintained to pick up experiences from his work life, which can make people laugh rather than snatch their hairs out in pain after knowing the struggles of a techie.
The chapters are really small and this can be your perfect weekend read. Book starts with the chapter where author gossips about the trouble which relatives have to unnecessarily create with their rubbish questions. These are the only people who would ask you unavoidable questions when they themselves are oblivious about it. Just a sheer show off!
It's hard to say what I enjoyed in this book because I enjoyed reading every page of it. The author talks about that how you have to be a "Yes Boss" person if you want to live in serenity always and how you have to lie here and there when you are doing business with some important clients. I laughed at the part where the author talks about how his team had to go through a specific kind of training to comprehend the accent of a foreign client. It's funny, right? And then there were some parts where the author makes us laugh about the table manners ( which some people in the team didn't know ) and upholding the professionalism in front of a client. Some stories are real while some are cooked up.
Right from the cover of this book, it had me. Also in every chapter, there is a black and white illustration which lightens the mood of reading. I love books with images. Language is smooth and extremely simple to understand. Author's sarcasm clearly shows in his work and it will not fail to make you chuckle.
I liked almost everything in this book that it is tough to point out anything. I am always impressed by people who can make people laugh effortlessly and the author has done that. There is no target audience because anyone and everyone can read this book. You don't have to be a techie to understand this. It's simple and filled with humour. Don't miss out on reading this. Grab it!

Review of book Adventures Of An Indian Techie by Nipun Varma
Publishers: Notionpress
Pages: 91
The title of the book itself suggests all the perks of being an IT engineer in India. Since childhood we're have followed the herd and we continue to do so till now, the author has depicted each and every sequence so nicely that we all can agree to it.
From being grilled at family functions, office meetings and even at weddings. We thought that always being compared to other people regarding grades was old thing and that'd stop once we're grown but it doesn't stop there now relatives has found new variety of ways to compare us on basis of qualifications and Indian engineers are more suffering in this case as they're always compared to others.
The author has given many different instances of an IT engineer whether in day to day life or professional life , how they are expected to know each and every thing regarding the technology even if they belong to different group in engineering, from repairing neighbours computer system to meeting their clients from the work place all of this is illustrated in very funny way and we cannot stop reading the book.
Its amazing and was very hilarious in some of the chapters, my personal favourite was the chapter where the staff members were allowed to dined during meeting and one of them opted for non-vegetarian food but unfortunately it was not boneless and then the fun began when he was all focused to eat that with fork and knife.
Overall the book is nice and I would to IT engineers and even to other people as well it was very refreshing to read and it consists of total 13 chapters.

Adventures of an Indian techie is the story of those computer engineers who chooses the engineering field either out of the family pressure or because of not knowing what to do in their life.
The story revolves around a computer engineer who talks about his experiences of being an engineer. The protagonist shares how he is being treated by his relatives and how his neighbours call him to repair their computers.
This fast-paced novella is written in an easy language but with some tech jargon for which there is a glossary given at the end that too is super fun to read.
The author has shared in a very humorous way the embarrassing moments and situations an engineer faces in his life. The author has touched all the important moments of a techie's life in his book.
It's always easy to make assumptions about others lives especially of those who look happy from outside and we don't know what is going in their life. And that's what happens with engineers and other salaried persons whom we think are the happiest person living on the earth but we don't know whether they are doing what they always wanted to do, whether they are treated well at their workplace. And that's what the author tried to make us understand through his book.
Now you ask Prerita why are you recommending this book to a non-techie, well dear reader this book is for all. A person who is misunderstood by others because of his/her profession can easily relate to the story and others too can learn some lessons on how to treat engineers and other professionals.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, each page made me laugh hilariously, everything in the book is on point.

👨🏻💼 This is the debut book of this author.
👨🏻💼 This book talks about what are all the problems faced by the Indian techies in day to day life.
👨🏻💼 Techie problems start from the neighbor's asking for free computer service, Friends asking for hacking techniques, pressure from the team lead to complete the task, onsite projects, client meetings, etc.,
👨🏻💼 All the tasks and problems faced by the techie were explained in a very funny way. I laugh out loud in many incidents in this book.
👨🏻💼 well, when we see it from our site it looks like it's very easy to be a techie. 9-5 job, big 5-6 digits salary, A/C rooms like that. But if ur a techie u have a friend in the tech fields only knows what reality is.
👨🏻💼 Even though I'm a Mechanical Engineer. I have many friends in the tech fields. I know how they suffer. For example, during this lockdown period, I simply stayed in the home without doing any work but my techie friends worked from home. I feel sad For them.
👨🏻💼 It's just 90 pages u can finish it in an hour. The language was very lucid and easy.so beginners can also read this book.
👨🏻💼 The cover looks very attractive and the title is apt to the book.
👨🏻💼 I recommend this to one who looks for a humorous read u can blindingly go for it. Tech guys out there will love this.

Book Name- Adventures Of An Indian Techie
Author- Nipun Varma
Review- Adventures of An Indian Techie is a ride through the journey of the technology world through the eyes and experiences of a 1 gram techie who stepped into the world of computers half heartedly and is brilliant at cooking up stories. We’ve always heard that things are different than what they look like and thus trip will take you through what actually resides in his heart and how he cooks up stories to add a sparkle in his dull career line. Many of us choose a career in which we are not actually interested but for the sake of hype we get into it and realize later that we aren’t meant for it. The social hype taking toll over fresh minds leading to a rat race where everyone is trying to run faster not knowing where to is the actual reason behind such unfruitful career choices of the youth today. The best part about this book is the genre of this book as it features humor in every aspect portrayed. The author has dome a commendable job in adding wit through the lines. It is a short but an enjoyable read where a reader is hooked till the last page to enjoy the adventures of a 1 gram techie. The cover portrays what fun the book holds and the title goes well with the storyline.

Adventures of an Indian Techie - Nipun Varma
My Perspective:
This book has a comical touch throughout the read along with the illustrations and the way of writing the author followed. It seemed to be a light read- kind of a fun escape from the daily work struggles. Must-read especially if you are working to relate with your own cooked up struggles as well.
About the Book:
I had the paperback copy of this book. The shiny bright cover with a beautiful illustration of a man in front of tall buildings representing MNCs caught my eye. The title made me curious to read further the book and know about it in deep.
About the Story:
The story is about the main protagonist, a talk-nologist. He is good at cooking up stories rather than at technology. In this story, he begins with him attending a family function and the struggles he faces there, and then the rest continues. (No Spoilers!!!) I thoroughly enjoyed this short read as it was fun-packed with beautiful illustrations and an easy-writing style.
About the Author:
Author Nipun Varma is an IT professional for the past 16 years and is a wannabe writer. He is an avid public speaker, book reader, loves watching movies, stand-up comedian, part-time actor, and social worker. He has won numerous competitions and prizes for creative writing.

This book of thirteen chapters shows the life of an Indian who is working in an IT company, specifically the '1 gram techie' as said by the author. From the interview process for joining the job to the insane questions asked by the relatives to an IT worker, the author has shared many events in a funny way. In fact, the author has made up a lot of words to add to the humor, like Onsiteomania, Jargonology and Tharoorification.
.
This short book of 81 pages makes the reader laugh multiple times. From the book cover to the glossary, everything is fun and interesting. The expectation of relatives that an IT worker might be able to fix computers and write free anti-virus programs are fun to read. Even the team meeting and client dinners are explained so funnily that it makes you more than just smile. The author has even added humor to the glossary which is amazing. The split up of chapters is good, but the order seemed kind of messed up. I haven't read any humor books till this and I really liked this one. And, you need not really be a techie to be amazed by this book, and that is wonderful. I recommend this book to all those in search of some humor, and those who work in the IT sector can really enjoy this one!

Adventures of an Indian Techie
by Nipun Varma
This book constitutes the intricacies of varied and complex uncertainties specific to IT industry and its adventures. Each of the chapters portrayed in the book is an entire work of unique perspective and observation which is very different from the ordinary. Author's crisp and fast paced writing style is adamant to pamper the readers with its arms of expressions and that too sometimes towards extremities of the dead end.
From the amateur protagonist who is totally unaware of his work to the reality of humanity, the author has expressed it all from the uniqueness of complexities to the ease of relief with the characterisation.
Various colours of life till the grey in between, the narration is well thought of and has an insight which only an observant reader can ponder upon and emerge with an aftereffect of its essence - imbibing humour in subtlety.
The book is framed in a pattern which would make the readers realise about what actually is relevant in our lives especially when life is a huge bundle of subtleties. Humourous yet strong narration of the book is designed to let the readers delve and appreciate the resonance of our real lives.

Adventures of an Indian techie by Nipun Varma is a short hilarious read on the inner workings of the Indian IT industry.
It will take you on a fun ride inside the world of an Indian techie, who are mere living in survival mode and make-do with whatever limited knowledge they've of the techie world. That's where the "Bluff Quotient" and J-mode comes in (aka Jargon mode, ie spitting big English words just to hide your limited IT knowledge)
"If you are in a discussion wherein you don’t know what to talk, switch to ‘J-mode’ to hide your ignorance all the while confusing your listeners."
I totally loved this book. I snorted & laughed throughout this read. The author is freaking witty and it is reflected in his work. I admire him for making a story about a mostly boring world so damn funny!
And no, you don't have to be from the IT industry to enjoy this book. I'm a living proof of it! I'm glad I decided to pick up this book. It was really different from books I usually read. And truly it proved to be so refreshing.
I recommend it to everyone.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Adventures of an Indian techie is humorous witty novel about life of techies in India. The novel is written by Nipun Varma, who himself is the narrator of his daily incidents as a techie. He divides techies into 2 groups, 916 techies and one-gram techies. The 916 techies are the ones who are the real technology lovers whereas the one-gram techies are result of sheepishly following the culture. There are many humorous incidences where I just rolled on floor. The book depicts how the society treats the techies and undervalues them.
Being a short read, the book can be completed in one go. The language is very simple yet witty. The author gave a glossary of technical terms and the slangs used by techies for our knowledge. The only thing I felt the novel lacked was character building. My favorite chapter was Jingle bells. The author did a great job compiling his journey brilliantly, one will enjoy reading it a lot. Each chapter is much intriguing than the previous.
Highly recommended. A must read for techies and people for all age groups.

'Adventures of an Indian Techie' is an funny and short read written by the talented author namely Nipun Verma who is also well known for his witty and humourous tongue.
In this book the author has portrayed a life of a techie in India and the situations he or she is bound to enter in order to save his title ' Techie'.. in our society talking about particularly India after the birth of the baby all the parents wish to make him an renowned doctor or an engineer. No one bothered to ask what the baby in his upcoming days really wanted to become. By playing with the words the author has beautifully spoken about the forbidden sentences without causing any harm to the sentiments .
There is an chapter namely 'jingle bells' I literally re-read it . It's so funny that I ended up laughing a long..
It's an beautiful work where the author using his intelligence pointed out the things related to 'techi- life' without making us bore.

Adventures of an Indian Techie is a short witty take on the life of an average software professional in India.
Trust me, cracking a joke and making others laugh is probably one of the most difficult tasks that one would ever find. And here, Nipun has so effortlessly woven a hilarious tale that will make you laugh right from page one.
I finished this one in two hours and I was laughing throughout the story and I guess that summarises how good it is. You'll be able to relate to most of the characters as well as the adventures and by the time you finish this book there will be a smile on your face.
Final Verdict: 4/5

Until this book I knew only one kind of techie- the obvious techies. But this book bifurcated the concept into "the 1-gram techies" and "the 916 techies ".
The 916- techies are the actual technologists while the 1-gram ones are talk-nologists. Through this book, the author explores normal day routines and incidents from the perception of a 1-gram techie.
.
The book is short and refreshing. It was one of a kind read for me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and even having a non-engineering background I was able to relate to it. Trust me the book is hilarious and so is the title of it's chapters and the images associated with it.
Want to LOL (Laugh-out-Loud), do read this book.
