Gamer Girls #3

Virtual Reality

Rate this book
Online, you can be anyone you want. If only real life was that simple.

Kate's determined to learn how to be an independent woman. For too long, she's let herself be pushed around - sometimes literally - by men. For the first time in her life, she finally has control of her own decisions.

Too bad it's never that easy.

Her goals are simple: get a job and build a life she can be proud of. That's it. The problem is that no matter how much she tells herself she's better off alone, she can't help but feel something for the deep voice she talks to every night in her favorite game. Knowing he lives on the other side of town isn't helping. It wouldn't take much to fall for this guy. He's perfect.

So is the man who works across the hall.

He's not her boss. He just owns the company she works for. Not only is he rich, charming, and sexy, he's also real, unlike her gamer guy - and for some reason, he's taken an interest in her. But falling for him would be a bad idea. After all, they work together. Still, no girl in her right mind would refuse someone who looks that good in a suit.

But she's not the only one with secrets.

Some things are supposed to remain online, yet when her job sends her to a gaming convention to represent the company, she knows it won't stay that way. Secrets are about to come out. Unfortunately, the ones that will hurt the most aren't hers.

The Gamer Girls series features strong women and the men who love them. Contains graphic language and situations that are suitable for a mature audience. After reading book 3 of the Gamer Girls series, Flawed is still my favorite.
In this series Girls are Gamers and they know the tech stuff and they are not ashamed of it. I love it.
The third book has a love story between two Gamers (one newbie and one experienced) and it has a plot, where we meet the Kings of Gaming again. I think that the King of Gaming will play a bigger role in the next four book.
I like that Kate steps up after suffering some abuse she stands up and leaves the ex.

I like Kate. This was her lovestory and she deserves ist so much.

Edit 2024:
I felt like rereading Gamer Girls. I really forgot, how long this books are but they are so worth it. I love this series.

Damn Damn DAMN

I have to say I seriously LOVE this series. Every once and awhile I will come across a book or series that just hits all my fave things on "creating a perfect book" list. You know the ones that just stick with you for weeks and you wish you could read again for the first time.

I love the characters they are so real they could jump off the page. By book 3 there are so many names to keep track of and I usually get lost but this series its so easy for me to pick right back up and know who's who.

It makes me want to game on pc and get a real good core friend group like in the series. I play Xbox but none of my friends play so I've been slowly reaching out on reddit and facebook groups for the games I play to create a clan match make up etc. But I get so nervous I don't talk on the mic or when I do I feel like an idiot and talk over people. But this series has deff given me some more courage to just say fuck it and go for it

on that note if anyone plays Division 2 on Xbox1 hit me up!

Another great book

This book brought in characters from the last two books. The story really wove together nicely. There was some hot romance mixed into the plot. I'm really interested in seeing where this series goes.

They’re back!!

This one wasn’t the best in the Gamer Girls series that I’ve read so far and yet I absolutely enjoyed the story. Regardless it was much better the second time around. I really likes how it gave me a view of my favorite characters again. I can’t wait to see what Fragged has to offer. The Kitty and Auryn team up has me ready for more.

Who is behind that screen?

I love getting lost in this gamer world with supportive players and a sweet community. This book gave a glimpse into the online relationships and friendships that happen when you spend hours playing games or chatting. Strangers becoming friends through electronics. I think back to my parents' generation and think about how different the world is now, socially. Being friends with someone for years, but never meeting them face to face is kinda normal. But, who is this person behind a screen, really? Are they the same person irl?

Loved this book. Don't love the group of men in it that are woman haters. It's very 4ch@n and scary with doxxing (terrifying) and rumours of swatting (horrifying). Just yikes. Anyways, the series is full of insight into gaming as a woman and I'm really into it. If you like gaming and a side of romance, then this is a great series to read. 💙

I currently have a massive ESO obsession going on right now so this gamer romance was right up my alley. Throw in an office romance? Taylor is a happy girl.

The reason for my 3 stars is the ending. It was such an awesome build up! I wanted more to come from! And where was the epilogue?! I need it. Gimme, gimme, gimme.

Notes:

Solid transition piece that worked well to move the subplot forward. While I enjoyed the main duo in the book, the romance felt the least likely. The characters continue to be cool but I don't feel the same charge of energy as I did for #1.

The series just keeps getting better as we find team members finding love. Kate and Adam are just perfect for each other. I love the girl power feel and how the H let's her shine...actually encourages it. The books are starting to tie together also. Can't wait to see who finds love next.

I am Gamer Girl, hear me roar!

Kate has been hit. And hit hard. Seven years tied to the same man has worn her down and he did his best to make her feel worthless. But eighteen months ago she left him and filed for divorce. He resorted to fists so she used her feet and walked away. But he isn't done. Men like him need a punching bag to feel better and he's balking over terms to make her life difficult. Kate, on the other hand, decided to move on and look forward. She's discovering online gaming, found a great job, and is making some amazing friends. (Some characters from the previous 2 books show lol.) Life is looking good. Especially since one of her new online friends wants to celebrate her divorce with her. Question is: Does she take a chance on an online maybe? Or does she go for the guy she works with who's been flirting with her?

Spoilers ahead!
Dez is back! Eee! Her past may make me twitch but I absolutely love her. Riley makes an appearance, too, and takes Kate under her wing.
Trigger warnings for:
*Dez's past (mentioned in book one)
*Kate's abuse by her ex, beatings and he cut her face
*The threats tossed out by the scummy group, Kings of Gaming
We've met some amazing characters, they're coming together, and the fight is forming a front line. Targets have been sighted and the play is about to go in motion because Kate has just been made a target and she is tired of backing down. She finally has the power to not only help herself, but others being targeted with her. The next book is going to be pretty amazing. I loved Kate finding herself. Now she's in momma bear mode. Riley is pissed, Dez is going to work behind the scenes and the fact that there are powerful gamer guys working to help them? Awesome. Gamers are all walks of life and the communities formed can be so beneficial. I'm going to go do a happy dance and be glad I decided not to put the series down after book one.

If you are reading this and wondering how Kate fits into this bad ass gamer girl world don't worry, you are not alone. I was super confused by Kate. She lacks the gamer brain of Dez or the bad ass player skills of Riley. She is a timid little thing that is simply dipping her toe in.

BUT in the world of he-man woman haters, anyone with a vagina is the debil!!!

This for me is a more traditional love story than the other two books. This is a gamer girl series and while I am not a gamer I have learned a lot of lingo and developed an interest to explore the gaming world. So in a way I can relate with Kate a bit. The thrill and excitement of finding and learning a new hobby.

Adam aka Ice is such a goof. Not gonna lie I was curious why he wasn't in Denver so I was excited to see that he was the male lead. He and I have so much in common. I live in Ohio, I have a racially blended family, I... okay that's it. I don't think letting it slip that Adam and Ice are the same person is a spoiler. You would have be brainless to not pick that up by page 12.

As I stated this reminded me of a nice contemporary love story. I was rooting for both the girl and the guy. This story put a lot of things into play for the future of the series. If at any point you are reading it and think it's not worth the read or that it could have been skipped, you are wrong. It's vital and cute. However, I would say with the ending, it really can't be read as a stand-alone in my opinion.

OMG!! Another addictive read in this series. Iceman and Lithium were fantastic and to see the change in Lithium as a woman during this book was the cherry on top. Lithium had been beat down emotionally, mentally, and physically by an abusive ex-husband, and now she was trying to get her life back on track. Meek and timid, she tries her hand at gaming as her ex said she would have been shit at that too, but she learns on the fly, and Ice Man takes her under his wings, as does the gaming family that we have already met in the previous books.

There was one glaring plot hole in this book that seemed pretty obvious, but did I care, NO. I just lapped this book up like the others, and I'm now diving into book 4.

I hope there are more after 5, else I'm going to be disappointed to leave these people behind.

I read this book first, before the others in the series. I don’t know if this might have anything to do with it, but there are little bits in the characters’ conversations that are really insensitive and offensive. It seems weird to be pointed out by a person who loves the dark, dark romance books but this feels different?

I get what the author was trying to do and portray with these kinds of conversations, but I think that there was definitely a better way to write these:

“A hot shower helped, and makeup hid the rest, so by the
time she walked out to her car, she only looked
like a half-dead, flat-chested twig instead of a
holocaust victim”

"Oh, a standard. It's a Mini Cooper, Ice. Cute,
sporty, but won't get stolen over here in the
ghetto."

"Oh yeah. Good thing I'm anorexic because I'm
pretty sure it's going to show off half my belly."
"Wait," he said, sounding concerned.
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, I mean, I dunno who picked the size […]”

"No." He wasn't playing around anymore
"The anorexic part.'
"Relax," she assured him, "I don't refuse
meals, and I don't puke it up. I just got the
amazing luck to be shaped like a twig. I'm
that girl that people offer a sandwich because
they're so sure I have some kind of eating
disorder. I don't."

“She's a bit butch. I think it's too many
muscles from riding horses. You look more like
a swimsuit model. Definitely B cups, by the
Way."

I found the story and romance really intriguing and every-time I came across one of these lines from the book it really took away from the excitement of reading an otherwise really amazing book.

The third book in the Gamer Girls series, this book begins to tie everything together. We see characters from the first book return, though they don’t play a massive role, and we see characters from the second book return, playing a big role. Where gaming very much plays a big role in this book, I feel like there’s more “real life” in this book compared to the other two. It still predominantly deals with women in a men’s world, and other social issues like domestic violence and life after divorce.

The relationship building in this book shows an interesting dichotomy between those relationships you build face-to-face with people, when you worry about preconceptions, misconceptions and how people judge you, and those that are internet-based, where anonymity lends itself to allowing you to be true to you are - if someone doesn’t truly know you, does it matter if they judge you? This is another enthralling story; you forget you’re reading. And I’m really looking forward to book 4. It’s been a while since I read a story that could go in so many different directions, and it’s not totally clear where it’s going, and I can’t wait to see where that is.

Let's be clear. I don't know how any of the game girls series could match the intensity of the first book Flawed. Which is why it has a 5 star review and the others don't. However they are good stories, well told, and best of all, working together in a larger story arc.
This book is a pretty traditional romance between Iceman and a completely new female gamer. Then for the twist, he recognizes her name and helps her get a job at his company.
The real tension in this book comes not so much from the romance as from the sexist gaming group out to ruin any high profile female gamer they can find. I loved that the characters from Flawed showed up and that this party of the storyline is picking up again.
One thing that could be problematic for some readers is that this book is combining the ensemble cast from books one and two, meaning there are a lot of characters to try to remember. And since they all have real life names AND gamer tags- yeah, it's a lot. On the other hand, there are hints that characters that I already have an investment in from the previous books might get their own storyline, and I'm so here for it!

A nice little work place romance with the millionaire CEO of a hotel chain. I loved this story.

Kate is a slightly older FMC than the previous books in this series and is going through a rough divorce and starting her life all over again. She gets into gaming to give herself some control over her life and meets the best bunch of friends.

A chance encounter with the ceo leaves her getting a great job opportunity and turns her life around.

I really enjoyed how late took back control of her life and got her spark back. She was timid int he beginning but gets more sure of her footing throughout the book. My one gripe is that it all fell a bit too perfectly for her. I wish when she handed in her resume that she had done something more than just be nice to justify the impression she made on Adam.

I liked how this book tied into the overarching story of the series very well. I can’t wait to read more. I really love the authors works

Virtual....

Yeah virtual reality in the gaming world with Katelyn aka lithium is just starting her game. She has chosen her character and stepped into the gaming world only to be sucked right into a team that is right at the top of the gaming community by Iceman. Only Katelyn is also trying to get her divorced finalized due to an abusive ex and she desperately needs a job. She walks into a company to apply for a front desk administrative job, and then back home to learn to play. Katelyn finds her self with a job and a great gaming group and a crush only she wants the divorce finalized before she does a meet and greet. Oh the things in store for her are some you may see coming if you can read between the lines but others will throw you for a big loop. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one!

Great story.

Book three of the Gamer Girls series was yet another enjoyable read. I love how each character, and in particular, the gamer girl characters, are all so uniquely different.

This MFC, Kate, was a survivor of domestic abuse in the process of divorcing the perpetrator. Deciding to take upstanding as a hobby, Kate makes online friends, and a love interest.

After landing an interview, Kate begins a new career, and sees a man that she finds attractive, if rather intimidating. What follows is her confusion over her feelings for this man, and her online crush.

The dastardly Kings of Gaming, the male online semi-finals gamers group, also makes another appearance, targeting Kate, vans another gamer girl.

Another book in this wonderful series that I highly recommend.

I have never played a video game in my life – the closest I’ve got is Mario Cart – yet I adore this series. It’s nothing like the books I usually read (PNR/UF), but the characters are amazing and the stories are great. This book is no different!

Even for people like me who have zero knowledge of gaming, or even computers really, the book isn’t too technical. Bits and pieces are explained where needed, but there’s no in-depth technical jargon to deal with. I think it’s the unconditional acceptance and friendships, together with strong, resilient women that draws me in so much.

I’m going back to read the first 2 books again, because I now have a book hangover and need more of these characters.

Kate/Adam. Lithium/Iceman

Woman coming off a horrible, abusive marriage finds herself with nothing and no one in her life. Buys a videogame to regain something for herself, a new hobby to learn and a good distraction. Within five minutes she's taken in by an outfit of gamers more than willing to teach her and play alongside her. Comeraderie, laughter, and fun after years of no bright side. Then she gets herself a job, and finds herself thinking about gaming and hanging out with one guy in particular.

Super cute story, I like that at the end during the convention they retied the Kings of Gaming to it again, and seeing Deviant Games continue to progress with Flawed and QQ keep gaining momentum in the gaming world. Awesome.

Blow Your Socks Off Awesomeness. !!

You don’t need to know anything about computers or gaming to read this series. I’m not a Luddite or a guru virtual or otherwise and I was fine reading this series. Which, spoiler alert is utterly brilliant.

To me, because of the bad guys they’re up against the series qualifies as dark romance. What they all have in common is that the characters all enjoy playing computer games and that they’re all good people, non judgmental.

This is my second time reading this series and it’s as brilliant as I remember it being the first time around. After reading this the first time I followed it up by reading everything that either author had written, I wasn’t disappointed. Hope that helps you make up your mind about reading more.

Three-peat

This is the third installment of the series Gamer Girls. It is based off of what could have happened when Gamergate happened. If you aren't familiar with Gamergate, go look it up. Oh and swatting and doxxing. Who said gamers couldn't be vicious? Anyway, this go round follows Kate, a recently divorced woman and new gamer.
As always, Auryn Hadley delivers an excellent story. The characters have depth and could be real people. The world is clear and makes sense. The plot is well developed. The emotion is there.
Overall I would recommend this book. Even if you don't game, you can easily follow this book.

An amazing addition to the series

The authors have once again come together to produce something amazing. Characters so real you feel like you could message them on a gameboard, a plot complete in itself that still moves the overall storyline along, and deft handling of some serious subjects. This book once again has trigger warnings, but it wasn't as intense, in my opinion, as the previous two in the series. You should definitely read the others first though, they add to the enjoyment of this story if you know the background. Good editing, as always, adds to the enjoyment. I'm very much looking forward to more in this series.

Great Characters

One of my favorite parts about this series is watching the characters grow and progress emotionally. We start off with a woman who is a bit downtrodden and pretty insecure. In the end she is confident and ready to take on the world. In this case we also got to see her grow as someone who can barely get by in a game to a gamer who can take down pro and sponsored gamers.

All in all a great book for the series. I look forward to meeting the next character in Fragged.

This is the third book in the Gamer Girls series and I must say I love this series for a couple reasons. First is I am a "gamer girl" myself and have seen plenty of what is in the books happen in real life. Second is the author pulls to the front things that gamers in general have to deal with just to have fun. I love how even though Kate felt that she was weak she is actually strong enough to deal with the things that life had thrown at her by herself for most her life. The gamer community is exactly how the authors show it, friendship runs true!

So far this one is the most realistic group of characters in this series. MC did got a little too good at FPS a little too fast but what do I know maybe she had a natural inclination for gaming. Her ex was a complete douchebag and I liked that she was smart enough to cut him loose before she became a punching bag. I like her boss Nancy and her love interest as well. All in all the series keeps getting better so I was disappointed when I found out the next in the series is not out yet. Something to look forward to I guess.

Barely started the book and she’s describing looking tired/emaciated as looking like a holocaust victim. Maybe I should have been prepared for some offensive edgy language since gamers love slurs and describing winning as raping but I wasn’t and it felt gross.

Annddd they are threatening to rape each other. I’m so very shocked (/s).

Some of the story is so damn good like FMC and her boss interactions. The descriptions of gameplay was cool.

I feel crazy mixed. Gonna have to reread this later with a clear head for a true rating.

One more book by Auryn Hadley and Kitty Cox that I simply loved! The only flaw of the book was that Adam was a bit too perfect ;-) Just like the first books you do not have to be a gamer to enjoy it.

While it theoretically could be read without reading the first two books, I would recommend reading them first as it will help you understand the secondary characters and their motivations. It was nice meeting old friends and now I have to reread the whole series again :-)

Absolutely Amazing

I cannot get enough of the Gamer Girls!!! Having strong women, backed up by strong men, breaking out of the ‘norm’ and throwing stereotypes out the window is definitely my cup of tea! I need book 4, like yesterday!!! Also, JUST figured out who Cynister is. Well played Ladies! I think it’s fantastic how you’ve brought these characters and their stories together and I am already jonesing for the next book!!
