The Honest Affair

Rate this book
Prosecutor. Marine. Brother.
I thought I knew the man I was.
But in one moment, I found my real purpose: saving Nina de Vries.

On the outside, she seemed the perfect, icy aristocrat.
But I knew different.
Trapped by her monstrous husband and fear of her powerful family, Nina was begging to be saved.
And I was the only one who could do it.

Instead I broke her heart, and now I’ll stop at nothing to put it back together.
Because when fate introduces you the love of your life, you don’t walk away.
You fight for your chance, even if it means dragging the world down with you.

Nina and I were written in the stars.
That’s not even a question.
But will fate let us take our happy ending?
Or is our future one we’ll have to steal?

The Honest Affair is the epic conclusion of the Rose Gold Trilogy, a steamy, forbidden billionaire romance.

This was a fitting end to the Rose Gold Trilogy. We have been waiting with bitten fingernails and bated breath for this final book and when I had it in my sweaty little hands, I waited a few days to read it. Kind of like how the best part of Christmas is Christmas Eve, when the presents are all wrapped and under the tree and you can just kick back and relax and enjoy the holidays for the first time this year, and tomorrow it will all be over. That's how I felt when I had the Honest Affair on my kindle. I just wanted to savor that feeling.

Matthew and Nina have not had an easy time, and we pick up where the 2nd book !left us. Matthew's career is in jeopardy and Nina is implicated in Calvin's sleezy businesses. Things look pretty grim.

Now Matthew Zola had me from his first Fedora. This Sinatra dresser, smooth talker, handsome speciman of a man made me fall in love with him in The Scarlet Night. Nina's kindness emerged in Jane and Eric's books, when she began to befriend Jane. But when her story came out in this trilogy, my heart bled for her. And if anyone deserves a happy bending, it would be these two lovely people.

Nina and Zola have a lot to overcome in this book. We still have everyone's favorite villains to hate, Caitlyn Calvert, and of course Calvin Gardner. I do not think I have ever hated any fictional characters more than these two people! I am glad there are so many more people to love; like Zola's family, Eric and Jane, Skylar and Brandon, and Derek. These people more than make up for the two bad apples that are rotten to the core.

These two learn what it means to give up everything for love, Matthew more than Nina. She had to put up with a lot from Calvin, but Matthew actually lost everything material just by being with Nina. But he had everything he could need or want - in Nina.

I would give this book many more stars than 5 if I could!! You have to read this amazing trilogy if you haven't yet!

Where do I begin with my feelings about this book. I’ve loved Matthew’s character for a very long time, and this third and final in the series just proves why. He and Nina belong together in every sense of the word. The battles they’ve encountered and the hurt they’ve endured, just shows how much they belong together. Matthew will do anything for the ones he loves, like his family, but especially for Nina.

As for Nina, her character is incredible. She is a strong, fierce woman who will protect her daughter and herself in a way that makes your heart stop. And when Matthew is part of the equation, nothing will stop her from what she wants.

Matthew and Nina are the Grace Kelly and Gene Kelly of the 2020’s. Their elegance, their sophistication and just their general being will make you fall in love with them. It’s not all easy, and many obstacles get in their way that I just kept hoping that by the end of the story, they would be together. If you want to find out how their story ends, then please do yourself a favor and read this incredible story of second chances at life and love.

A beautiful ending for a beautiful couple and a beautiful story

This final book in the Rose Gold series wraps up Nina and Matthew's story so perfectly. Theirs is a truly touching love story. Their struggles really did get into my heart. This couple have had a tortuous and emotional journey, and poor Nina has been through so much. I'm glad everything worked out for her in particular, and them together.

This book is entertaining, engaging and exquisitely written. It is a really nicely paced story, that kept moving forward with the intricate plot developing and surprising me throughout.

I thought this was a refreshing and original book, it stands out from other romance stories through its finely woven story. Ms French has managed to create a compelling and absorbing novel that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I cannot express in words just how much I loved The Honest Affair by Nicole French. This story, right here, is the best example of why I am an eternal romance fanatic. This warm, swoonworthy, shaking, flattering, overwhelming feeling in my heart is the reason I read. Epic. Phenomenal. A riot of extreme emotions. I am dying from the angsty and mesmerising feels and I have never been so alive at the same time!

Matthew Zola and Nina De Vries' story is one thar written in the stars. What started as a whirlwind passionate affair has become a truly soul deep love. But their situation is less than ideal. To say the least. Nina is in a legal mess as her husband is under investigation for some really vile offences and he has tangled her in his web without her knowledge. Matthew is in a bind. He cannot continue his job as ADA as it's a conflict. He cannot be with Nina as it jeopardises everything. They are on verge of losing everything including their precious love.

This story just fills my heart with so much pang. Butterflies in my stomach. Palpitations and frantic beats of my heart. Trust me it's a surreal experience. Nicole French knows literary sorcery and she sprinkles her magical invisible powder generously to evoke this dreamy state in my heart. This story is a romantic adventure that made me swoon, sigh, curse, cry and smile. Zola is the ultimate book boyfriend. So regal. So real. So intense. The picture of care, dominance, protectiveness, charm and possessiveness and yet at the same time colourful and beautiful with his vulnerability, anger and helplessness. Nina is not only the elegant beauty, she is the real queen. Hats off to this fierce woman who fought and won against some cruel things. My adoration and admiration for a woman who was broken and used and abused but turned back her life with sheer willpower and for true love. Oh the chemistry...that is the most incredible thing ever. The angst. Oh all the delicious angst. The pain of hiding their love. The craving. The desperation. The forbidden thrill. Oh my the steam. Just perfect. I bet you won't be able to resist the power of this love. The story line kept me on my toes. Sometime I was celebrating their triumphs and next moment I was nursing my heartbreak. What a brilliantly narrated love story! The ending brought me to my knees. The most deserving and fitting ending where I reluctantly said goodbye to this unforgettable couple through happy tears.

The Honest Affair may have concluded this sensational series by Nicole French but the effecr will never completely fade from my heart. This was pure ecstasy for my angst loving romantic heart. Addicted. Obsessed. And enjoying a never before felt emotional high.

Absolutely breathtaking! That’s the only way to describe not only this book but the love between Nina and Zola! Their story has been full of pain, unimaginable hardships but through it all their love for each other shined through!

What started out as an illicit affair turned out to be much more! Is this a story about cheating, no because how can anyone be cheating when their held hostage in a marriage!? A marriage tainted by lies and pain! It isn’t until Nina meets Zola that she truly understands what love is, what love should feel like and look like!

In this third and final book we see Nina fight to take back her life and find her rightful place in the world! She will no longer be in the shadows but wants to stand in the sun with her daughter and the man she truly loves!

We also see Zola try to figure out what comes next. Continue to threaten his career or fight for the woman he loves! The cliffy in book 2 has us wondering what will happen professionally and personally to Zola. His life hangs in a balance and each move he makes will decide if he can continue the job he loves!

In the end I love how selfless both of these characters are! One given the world, the other fighting for scraps but they find a middle ground to make it work. They let love guide them and that is what I love about these two! Their so giving is have a soul deep kindness that is hard to find! Truly amazing characters that I wish I could will into reality!

Nicole French packs some punches in this book that will shock you but you will also be in awe at the magnificent characters and beautiful writing!
No one keeps me on edge and full of overwhelming emotion like Nicole French and this is why I keep coming back for more. Even when my heart is overcome with all the feels I know that it’s going to all be made right!

I also loved seeing old characters that I have come to love in Nicole’s writing world! I will never get enough of any of these characters! EVER!!

The Honest Affair is the final installment on Matthew and Nina's love story. I give it more than 5 stars. Couldn't put it down and at the same time didn't want it to end.

Their love is not easy, it was forbidden at first because of Nina's relationship, and later on they have to go their separate ways because of the circumstances regarding her husband Calvin and Matthew's job. Poor Matthew was so miserable, just existing. He loves Nina so fiercely it's swoon worthy. Their trip to Italy was my favorite part with everything that goes between them. As usual Nicole does an amzing job describing the places they visit, and making you feel like you're actually there. I loved the newspaper clips letting was know what was going on without dragging the story so we could concentrate on what was important, Nina and Matthew.

I absolutely love this couple and how they get the beautiful ending they so badly deserve. Can't wait for that extended epilogue :)

Also I'm happy how everything turn out with Calvin and Caitlyn, I don't remember hating characters so much like this two.

4.5*!! This was a great ending to the Rose Gold trilogy! I love how the characters and the way it’s written brings us back to another decade and I have to remind myself that we are in modern times. But it’s just perfect the way it’s done. I love Matthew Zola! And I love Zola and Nina together! This neatly tied up the loose ends of the story. All of Zola’s and Nina’s secrets are exposed to each other and they have to face them. And we get more of Matthew and his family. I absolutely love the interaction between him and his sisters! The only reason it didn’t get that extra half a star to make it 5 stars is because it didn’t evoke quite the amount of emotions normally a 5 star book would for me. But it was close and this series is definitely a can’t miss!

The Honest Affair is the conclusion of the Rose Gold series by Nicole French and boy was it worth the wait! Matthew Zola and Nina DeVries go through yet more pain and heartache but through it all their love for each other somehow manages to survive. They are both incredibly strong people individually but together they shine. The goodness of the two of them and the grace they show to others around them through their hardships is truly inspiring. Their lives are very difficult but they overcome every single obstacle to find their second chance and their happily ever after. A fantastic storyline and a book I highly recommend

Nicole French has done it again.

If you are half as invested in how Nina and Matthew were going to finally find their happily ever after as I was when I started this book, let's just say you're going to hit the end of this final installment with a big, fat smile on your face.

As much as I love Jane and Eric from Nicole's previous trilogy, I think I may love Matthew and Nina more. I love how much they love each other and how strong both become through their journey toward each other. They really gel as a couple in this book, and there are some pretty steamy scenes involving the two of them, so get ready!

I was most impressed with Nina's character development in this book. She is a woman I can admire, someone who refuses to be a victim of her circumstances and someone who fights for the ones she loves. Nina is right up there with Jane and Skylar as some of my favorite fiction heroines, and I hope we get to hear more from all three in the next trilogy that I *hope* stars Frankie and Xavier.

5 vibrant and enthusiastic stars for a fantastic ending to another amazing series!

I have been, and continue to be, a Zola groupie! I just love the way this author weaves her words, so delicate and precise, into this beautiful tapestry that you can see and feel. The littlest details are what makes this story shine above the rest for me. I could SEE Mattie in his Fedora, dressed to the 9's taking pride in his vintage clothes as he's walking through the streets of New York. Its good to see Nina get everything squared away, she really is coming into her own in this one and it was really rewarding to see her growth throughout. This was the perfect ending for these two, so much had to happen for them to be happy, I love that they had to work for it and I loved the crime story that continued throughout. An overall great read and a great and much needed escape!

I need more.

I hope y'all are ready for all the feels! I cannot express how much I loved this book without giving spoilers, and I hate reviews that have spoilers. So I'll just leave it at this.. omg! sooooo good. so good! worth the wait. I haven't left my couch in 7 hours and don't even care. I might also have neglected all my mom duties and my kids had poptarts for lunch. still worth it. 😅 this is probably my favorite of the whole Rose Gold series. quite possibly my favorites of all of Nicole's books. definitely deserves more than 5 stars.

4.5 stars--THE HONEST AFFAIR is the third and final instalment in Nicole French’s contemporary, adult ROSE GOLD erotic, dark romance trilogy focusing on thirty-six year old, former Marine, and criminal prosecutor Matthew Zola, and heiress and philanthropist Nina Gardner. THE HONEST AFFAIR should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book two THE PERFECT WOMAN but I also recommend reading the Quicksilver series for back story and history. Matthew Zola and Nina Astor deVries Gardner were first introduced to the reader in the Quicksilver trilogy. The ROSE GOLD series is a spin off from the author’s Quicksilver series.

WARNING: If you have not read books one and two, there may be spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: Months earlier, a one night stand between Nina and Matthew resulted in our hero desperately searching for the woman who got away. Matthew is the prosecuting attorney investigating the kidnapping of Jane DeVries (Quicksilver Series), and its’ criminal connections to the world of human trafficking and sexual slavery but to Matthew’s surprise the woman he could never forget turns out to be the cousin of Eric DeVries, Jane’s husband and billionaire businessman, and a woman with close connections to the people involved in the Jane’s kidnapping. The Rose Gold trilogy is Nina and Matthew’s story.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Nina and Matthew) and third person point of view, THE HONEST AFFAIR follows in the aftermath of Nina’s confessions; the potential connections to, and the arrest of the men involved in the kidnapping of Jane DeVries. Struggling with his attraction to, and love for Nina Gardner, Matthew Zola finds himself on the outside looking in when he is pulled from the investigation for crossing the line with a potential suspect, a married woman who is currently making headlines for all of the wrong reasons. With her life in shambles, Nina heads back to Italy where she is hoping to connect with her daughter’s extended family, a family that wants nothing to do with out story line heroine. Not wanting to leave Nina unprotected, Italian-speaking Matthew arrives in Italy to escort and protect the woman he loves where he will profess his undying need for our story line heroine. As Nina and Matthew’s relationship continues to build, the fall-out of the investigation back home begins to take on a life of its’ own. What ensues is the continuing love and forbidden relationship between Nina and Matthew, and the potential fall-out as Nina’s past comes looking for revenge.

Nina Astor deVries Gardner is a married woman, in an abusive relationship who is struggling to move on having filed for divorce in the wake of revelations and her growing love for another man but Nina’s life will continue to spiral as she becomes a suspect in the hideous and heinous crimes of the powerful and rich. A mother; an heiress stripped of her money; and no visible means of support, Nina will martyr herself in an effort to shut down the people responsible for the kidnapping of her cousin’s wife. Matthew Zola has fallen in love with a married woman but is unaware to the extent of Nina’s hidden past. Having raised his sisters after the disappearance of their mother, Matthew battles between head and heart as he struggles to keep a place over their heads, and food on the table.

The relationship between Nina and Matthew is a forbidden love between a married woman, and the prosecuting attorney investigating the kidnapping of Nina’s cousin’s wife. Too many lines have been crossed by our story line hero as Nina’s ongoing nightmare continues to pull Matthew over the proverbial line. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including Eric and Jane DeVries (The Quicksilver Trilogy); Nina’s daughter Olivia; husband Calvin Gardner, and her former best friend Caitlyn Calvert; Matthew’s sisters Kate and Frankie; Frankie’s daughter Sofia, as well as Frankie’s ex Xavier; and numerous law enforcement and investigators including Detective Derek Kingston. The author has left several open-ended potential plot points for future series.

THE HONEST AFFAIR is a story of betrayal and vengeance; secrets and lies; power and control; love, relationships, friendships and family. The character driven premise is heart breaking, emotional and twisted; the romance is spicy, seductive and captivating; the characters are broken, healing, energetic and edgy. THE HONEST AFFAIR is a startling and sensual conclusion to the Rose Gold Trilogy.

The perfect conclusion to the perfect trilogy.
A year and a half of secrets, lies, and unending love for each other.

“Then I’m going to ask again, and I want a straight answer. Nina Evelyn Astor de Vries, when all this is over, one day, when you’re free like I know you will be, will you be my wife? Will you let me be your husband? Woman, will you please fucking marry me?”

We blinked at each other like owls, stunned by the candor of our own emotions. And then, because I couldn’t stop myself, I threw my arms around his neck and closed the distance between us.

“Yes,” I whispered against his soft lips. “My answer is yes.”

What a spectacular conclusion!! I loved how they were both true to themselves to the end. The Honest Affair was the third and final book in Nicole’s Rose Gold series and MUST be read in order. Any one that follows me knows I am not a fan of cheating and I have to admit this book did bother me because of that. I still really loved their story, but it was always there in the back of my mind. It was sweet, sexy, raw, and so heartfelt!

What would be in store for Matthew and Nina? Would it be forever or the means to an end?

Such a good series. Like I said, I didn’t like the cheating, but man, what a ride! I was so happy to hear Matthew got his own story and it looks like I will get more of him with the next series!

The last chapter of Mathew and Nina's great love story. I'm not gonna lie I would have liked to be something more to it. At times I did drag a bit but over all it was a great ending to this trilogy. It was intense and heartbreaking. The things Nina endured I wouldn't wish that to my worst enemies. But she was strong and did not let that stop her when she finally decided to end her suffering.
Mathew was miserable without her and when given the chance he decided nothing will stand in his way to make her his forever.

Who knew an affair would be the beginning of a love fated to be?

Nina and Zola cannot be together, not while he's the prosecutor and she's entangled in her husband's legal mess. But what about after it's all resolved? Will it ever be resolved? Will they ever be free to be together?

Well, Zola and Nina both fight to make it so. Fight like neither has fought before, and it was pretty fascinating reading. Their love was messy and complicated, and strong in the end and I so loved every word. They've come a long way from a hot tryst to soulmates who've been through it all and have come out on the other side stronger, happier than ever.

Nicole French delivers the perfect conclusion to her epic Rose Gold series. Full of twists and turns, to keep you reading until the very end.

In The Perfect Woman, the previous book in the series we left off on such a cliffhanger by finding out a shocking twist at the end. Now in The Honest Affair, Nina de Vries and Matthew Zola face new challenges as they so desperately try to get their own happily-ever-after. Their love will be put on the line along with their trust for each other. But when Nina gets the chance to finally put her past behind her, they discover even more secrets that could end up threatening the very same future they’ve been fighting to get.

I absolutely loved reading The Honest Affair, the way the story was set up was great and so were the characters. We finally get to see Nina grow as a person and take back her life. She was always in the shadows when it came to being with her family, since her cousin Eric always got the attention for being the heir to their massive family empire. But in the story, we see her make tough decisions and not care what others have to say. She is ready to protect her daughter at all costs and having Matthew with her made her even stronger. We also see Matthew evolve and envision a new life for him and Nina. We also get to find out more about Matthew’s family and cameos from Eric and Jane (from the Quicksilver series) as well as Brandon and Skylar (from the Spitfire series). This was such a great ending to this amazing series, it was gripping, swoon worthy and steamy. Although the story was filled with twists, the ending had a massive twist that I did not see coming at all. I would highly recommend checking out this series, you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to read what the author comes up with next! :)

I loved the culmination of Matthew and Nina's story! Nicole French did just a wonderful job crafting these characters. Their imperfections, flaws, and quirks were everything that made these characters fly off the pages. The development of Nina was amazing to read about. The little duck turned into a swan throughout these books.

I don't want to give too much away. This book was filled with angst, heart stopping moments, family relationships, loyalty, and, of course, romance. Added bonus: you get to see a little of Jane & Eric's future as well :)

I am at a loss for words. This series, this couple have held my heart for months and I am sad to see there story end. This series has got to be my favorite by Nicole French and that says a lot because I have been 5 starring her books for a couple of years now. She writes the strongest characters and Nina and Mathew are no different. Even if Mathew had a lot to make up for after the end of The Perfect Woman... and boy did he. He stole my heart along with Nina's. Her strength and class in the heat of challenges was empowering and his passion for what is right is endearing. I can not wait to reread the best series by Nicole French so far.

Amazing conclusion to what has quickly become one of my favorite series EVER. I love the story of Nina and Matthew who have to endure a lot to reach their happy ending. They both lose a lot along the way so that they can be together. I really enjoyed reading this book and Nicole sure kept me on my toes and had be biting me nails all the time because it wasn't predictable whatsoever. This book covers a slightly extended period of time so it was interesting to see certain plot lines develop slowly. It wasn't rushed, nor was it too slow. Nicole balanced out the pace of the story perfectly in my opinion. I also love that we got to see other characters as well, such as Petri dish and pretty girl.

Five stars!

Oh!

That single word was used as my reaction to so many moments in the book. Happy, sad, angry...it was always an Oh, from me.

Nicole French pulls it out of the bag with the conclusion to Matthew and Nina's story. I highly advise you grab Book 1, The Other Man as this is a trilogy.

Without spoiling, I will say The Honest Affair picks up from the end of The Perfect Woman. We finally have most of the secrets uncovered by Nina and Matthew however the happy ending is no where near in sight.

Their connection is as strong as possible and they're itching to finally be free from their shackles and be together as a unit for their happy ending.

They still have their secrets to be known to one another and with that, along with Nina's husband's greedy hidden schemes unfurling, there's a lot that keeps them from having any sort of ending right now.

It's an uphill battle but the love they have for one another enables them to make it to their happily ever after. It's the thing I love most about Nicole French books. She has these soulmate connection in her books, that you feel the endless love and devotion that no matter any obstacles, their love will eventually win out.

I adored this conclusion and you bet I wanted to cry when I realised it ended. I enjoyed meeting last characters, Jane, Eric, Skylar and Brandon that I've met in previous trilogies. And also I loved the hint at the next series maybe? Frankie and Xavier I am coming for you!

Thank you. An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Just when I thought I couldn't love Nicole French's work anymore, she delivered this masterpiece! The Honest Affair is the perfect ending to the tumultuous journey of Nina and Matthew. These two have been faced with practically every hurdle imaginable and yet their love continues to smolder and their chemistry beyond sizzles! Not only does The Honest Affair fulfill every dream you may have had for Nina and Matthew through the Rose Gold series, it also provides many new details regarding Nina's past and all she's endured and conquered through her life and especially her marriage.

The character development and evolution through this entire series has been absolutely exceptional. Matthew may not have always been a gentleman in his past but he is the perfect gentleman with Nina. Nina truly comes into her own in this story. You will find yourself rooting for her over and over as she finds her voice and the inner strength to forge ahead making her own choices rather than letting others dictate her life for her.

The Honest Affair brings all the feels and tugs at your heart strings while keeping you on the edge of your seat as Nina and Matthew try to find their HEA. This story will grab you right from the beginning and keep you wonderfully captive until the very last page. Get ready to be engrossed in what just may be Nicole French's best book yet!

This was such an amazing ending to such a great series. I’ve been dying for this book and was not disappointed in the least. This book makes you feel all the emotions and packs a punch. There were so many ups and downs in this book and it kept me glued to the pages for the moment when everything would be okay and they weren’t fighting all the circumstances keeping them apart. Once I started this book I could not put it down.

Nina and Matthew have a love that everyone should strive for. Both Matthew and Nina are selfless in their love for each other and the ones they call family. In this stunning conclusion to the Rose Gold trilogy, we readers get to see justice served. Not without further revelations that had me squealing "whoa", this story just kept serving up highs and lows. Love can really overcome all and this story proves that, although it can be messy, it is totally worth it. I absolutely loved this ending and the whole trilogy.

What a great ending to this trilogy!! Nina and Zola's story is just epic. It has the highs and the lows and all the feels in between. I cannot ruin the ending so just know it's one of the best and you'll love this trilogy as much as I did. Nicole French really brought it all for the Rose Gold series and it's one you do not want to miss! I definitely recommend!! ~Andrea

~Cindy

PUT ME THROUGH THE WRINGER

“An heiress with absolutely nothing but a record and the Chanel on her back. I wasn’t smart. When it came to Nina de Vries, I was the dumbest man in New York.”

That you are, pal, that you are. After the last disappointing book flipped the script on this relationship once again, an HEA seemed out of reach for this tormented couple. The prequel novella The Scarlet Night was one of the most seductively alluring setups I’ve ever read. Downtown Det. Zola was a mixed Renaissance man of old school and contemporary charm … and his uptown “doll” Nine de Vries was a cool seductress that rivaled any Hitchcockian heroine. I enjoyed The Other Man, but adulterous Nina was a basket case and despite how much I loved him, Zola needed to grow a pair. Everything flipped again in The Other Woman, and I was so turned off that I didn’t even write a review. It was doubtful that I’d read this book, but the lure was too great.

To enjoy this series one must overlook the crushingly overlong, rambling, and flip-floppy books, as the author kept changing perceptions of characters and tangled situations of the forbidden lovers, which I hated. If you’re reading this book, you already know what I mean. They started out on equal footing in a hot one-night stand, then Zola was the weak and needy one and married Nina was but a cool noirish blonde who resisted their attraction and broke his heart. It was sad and wimpy and unfulfilling, especially Nina’s reasons for avoiding Zola and fearing her hubby Calvin. What a bag of worms.

“All our pretenses stripped, the world around us in shambles.”

In this book, things can’t get any messier. Zola finally becomes the power player to fight for his woman, while Nina turns into a simpering wimp. Ugh. The real shocker was how much hubby Calvin changed from his first introduction to this book. He’s a repulsive, slob of an older guy who manipulated Nina into marriage for money. It was a weak plotline and he’s a bottom feeder and unworthy opponent for Zola. Still, there’s so much sacrifice, secrets, separation, and ups-and-downs for the couple. The revelations weren’t as entertaining (which really came out of thin air and not the way the marriage or Calvin seemed previously), but Zola held my attention. His love, determination, and fighting for love won me over all over again. My interest in the book was all about funny, sarcastic, sexy Zola and nothing else, as they scraped and clawed their way back to trust. It was the poignancy and vulnerability I needed that was missing in the previous 2 books. They’re finally together on the same page.

The author seriously derailed the series that “could have been” from the prequel setup. She also needs a good proofer and editor. Things like length, misspellings, time errors, and what 31 year old woman calls a dress a “frock”?

“I look at you, and I know it’s true. Real love is holy sacred.”

Perfect ending to an amazing series

This was both the perfect and most beautiful way to end this amazing series. A conclusion definitely worth waiting for. As with the previous two books in this series, Nina De Vries and Matthew Zola must suffer more heartache and pain to reach the happiness they desire.

Even though their relationship began as an illicit affair, from the very beginning they knew it was destined to become so much more meaningful. Together they have grown in strength and the love they share only makes them stronger, both as individuals and as a couple. I cheered as Nina refused to become a victim of her situation and fought for herself and for those she holds dear. This book really brought out her tenacity and her fight.

Many secrets were revealed between Nina and Matthew, and I loved how they face them together, instead of walking away from them and one another. This couple really worked well together, and I loved every step of the journey that they took to reach their destination. It was a journey of betrayal, secrets, lies, power, friendship, family, and love, involving a heartbreaking storyline, many passionate scenes and emotions that run rife.

A superb read, one that I highly recommend.
