What if you can’t feel anything anymore? Hunter is many things: a tough cop, an ex-army ranger and a burnt-out Dom. But nothing fulfills his needs anymore, not even the men in the dark clubs he once liked to play in.
A weekend in Vegas for his best friend’s bachelor party throws up all sorts of new problems—namely a stubborn, whiskey-drinking, tough-guy, who seems hell-bent on provoking him.
What if you can’t save yourself? Colsen is a train wreck, loaded full of explosives and headed toward a cliff. Sin City is the worst place for him: the perfect vice cocktail of drink, drugs, gambling, and sex.
Colsen’s on a path of self-destruction and he can’t find a way off. Not until he admits what he really desires: someone to take away his suffering and save him from himself.
A burning desire… As these two dominant men battle against each other, something else bubbles to the surface. A connection that neither man expected. A desire that sets them both on fire. A word they never thought they’d say… A desire for a Daddy.
Hunter’s Desire is book #2 in the Dark Desires series. It’s enemies to lovers, MM Daddy kink romance. If you like dominant men in uniform, kink and a heated insta-love story, then this story is for you.
It’s not like I didn‘t like that book but… I didn’t like it either, that’s why I gave it 2 stars in the end. I’m sorry, I really am. I tried to like it because I LOVED “Theo’s Game” and Hunter’s book was one I was awaiting the most last year. Sadly, I got very disappointed.
First of all: PLEASE!!! Please get an editor!!! That’s the second time in my reader life that the bad editing is affecting my rating. There were a lot of misspellings and grammatical errors. Sometimes the wrong person was addressed which confused me and I had to go back to see if I was in the right persons mind. Sometimes it suddenly switched from first person to third person which threw me out of my flow of reading. Sometimes there were logical issues, like for example someone stood directly in front of the other person but suddenly he marched to him? What? I thought he stood in front of him? So please, get an editor. I don’t remember so many errors in the first book at all.
Second: THE SNAPPING! I think if I read another snapping in a total inappropriate moment I might have cried. Call it growling or grumbling but please not always snapping. I get that Colsen is a real bastard and harsh and mean but even he shouldn’t always be snapping, right? Surely a grumbling would be good enough, snapping sounds so… loud. And sometimes I wasn’t sure if that should have been the case.
Third: The “relationship”. It isn’t often that I’m uncomfortable witnessing a blossoming relationship but this is definitely one of those times. I don’t want to spoil too much now but basically: The hate seemed so forced. The daddy-kink seemed so forced. The sudden “I love you” threw me totally off because… WHY???? The blurb states that it is basically a “insta-love story” which I beg to differ… a “insta-hate story” might be a better term. Because there was no love, not until the end and even then I was only told about it when they told each other out of nowhere. I have no clue when and where they fell in love…
Fourth: The most famous words in romance book history “I can’t do relationships” or more like everything that came with it. The “not communicating” trope for example. Again, I don’t want to give away too much but it was so… boring and mundane the whole time. Nothing new. Nothing extraordinary. There were actually two story lines the author could have went with (the alcoholism problem and a long-distance relationship) but instead she chose something that was used a hundred times before.
Take away the forced parts I mentioned above, give them an extraordinary story line, fix the errors and use a dictionary and this one chould have been a very good book. But instead… yeah… let me just say: I get why the author originally wanted to put a third person into their relationship.
It’s an enemies to lovers, Daddy kink romance! What more can you ask!
Anger so much anger raging through Colsen. Hurt so much hurt. It seems the only way to deal is undermining his own life. With mutual friends on a few days trip, Colsen and Hunter find themselves as roommates. Colsen hates Hunter and Hunter despises Colsen, until Hunter sees through all Colsen’s bullshit. He turns into a protective Daddy but Colsen doesn’t want to have anything to do with Hunter and his dominance and is certainly not in need of a Daddy. Hunter has to find his breaking point. Or was it his own?
When Hunter found the right buttons it was everything, read: everything!
Strongly written story with even stronger main characters. A lot of cursing and anger passing by. I loved the dynamic and I loved the struggle, together they were hot af. There are a lot of emotions to find, hurt, comfort, happiness, fun, strong feelings of independence, and submission. Two broken men meant to be together! Quite a captivating story. Awesomely way of storytelling!
Hunter’s Desire is the second book in the Dark Reserves series by CS Joyce. Itt is a contemporary m/m romance with an enemies to lovers theme and hot Daddy kink. . The story has drama, angst, love/hate, passion, and steam. Hunter and Colsen are fascinating characters that called to me and kept me emotionally involved with their story. This series delivers great stories and characters and I am excited for book three when it releases.
I was excited for this book, the blurb gives a good idea for an enemies to lovers theme and I do love me some hate sex. And while I liked their connection, where Colsen refused to give in and challenged Hunter at every turn, their relationship seemed a bit forced. With how quickly it turned. I needed more bite and to not have their intimacy rushed. It took away something of what is good with these stories. Both strong in mind and body and kept colliding in an almost primal way and then it kinda flopped at the end.
My favourite moment is when Colsen who is as big and muscly as Hunter, climbed on his lap for a cuddle, or needing a hug when the world got too difficult.
I think I could have given it a bigger pass if it hadn't had so many editing issues. It needed an extra look over. Or even just sent through a program for spelling mistakes and sentence building. Because there were too many mistakes to get properly settled in to the story. The book needed to be longer so I had a chance to get a proper connection with the characters and not rushed for release. I'm just disappointed, because it had the chance to be everything I was craving in this kind of story.
There is not a book :(. I was excited to read to find that after getting the book was either wrong file or what not telling me if i got that to do more work to read... Will not be reading this author again. If i purchase something i don't have time to go through all kinds of steps to read ..
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.
Okay then!
Daddy kink has been very hit and miss for me, some okay, some good, but not ever so many being so bloody good, but this one??
So Bloody Good!!
Hunter is a Dom, through and through but is disillusioned with the scene and wants to step away. He wants to retire for the police force. He wants. . . . something else. Colsen is a train wreck waiting to happen, after the death of his mother, he is wracked with guilt for not answering the phone and now he has been suspended from work. The weekend in Vegas to celebrate his best friend's up-coming wedding is the last thing he needs but he won't let his friend down. Hunter and Colsen come together, and it's not a matter of if they will butt heads, it's purely a matter of when. Can what happens in Vegas really STAY in Vegas?
I think what makes this one work so well for ME was this was a Daddy/boy relationship, rather than a Daddy/little one. Yes, Hunter buys Lego kits for Colsen, but thats more to focus his mind on something else. And Hunter wasn't really a Daddy before Colsen, either. A Dom, yes, but not a Daddy. There is an age gap, yes, but Hunter is approaching 50 (much to his disgust!) and Colsen is in his 30's. They are both working their way through what they need from the other, even if they hate each other.
And they work through their way spectactularly! Heads butt, yes indeed, and fists almost, but what gets to Colsen the most? Words. Words Hunter says in a certain tone, that pushes all kinds of his buttons he didn't know needed pushing. I LOVED how much Colsen fought Hunter, I really did. It doesn't take much for Hunter to find out why Colson is drinking so much, and once he does, he changes tactics to get Colson. Because Hunter WANTS Colsen like he never wanted before, and Colsen will be his boy, even if only for the weekend in Vegas.
But they can't leave it in Vegas, and it is great reading when Colsen finds out what Hunter did, and when Hunter comes into Colsen's space for the first time, discovering he kept some things going.
I loved it, when they finally, FINALLY, admit those three little words to each other! Very in keeping with these guys, and I loved the little epilogue.
I was to go back and read Dan and Theo's story now, too. It's their wedding they are in Vegas to celebrate. I want to continue with this series too, some interesting characters!
It's been a while since I had a one sitting read, and this one just nailed it, for me.
From the first meeting of Colsen and Hunter, I could tell their relationship was going to be fun to read as they butt heads for dominance, banter back and forth as Colsen is drunk and Hunter tries to get him to calm down and not ruin their friend's bachelor weekend. Colsen is struggling with life at the moment after the recent loss of his mum but he's dealing with it in a bad way. What Hunter can offer him is support and guidance but first he has to get past the assumptions of what Hunter is to how he can help, and possibly love him. Hunter finds himself oddly fascinated with the other man when he has struggled to feel connected to anything or anyone recently. What develops between them is unexpected but valuable to them both, as long as they are both willing to take the chance on the future. Hunter's dom side is used to great effect and he's not afraid to bring in an element of fun to proceedings. He also, after a suggestion from Theo, explores another possibility to his kink side which luckily is also appealing, though reluctantly, to Colsen. I actually prefer this book to book one of the series. There's depth to the characters and it's so easy to feel the pain that Colsen is going through and the loneliness that Hunter finds himself experiencing. The MC's work really well together and I found myself routing for them as a couple from the start. I enjoyed the way they interact with each other, the relationship that develops and the friendships that we encounter. It's great the way that the characters bounce of off each other and interact, all of the group not just the MC's. We have Dan and Theo from book one and some of their friends along with Hunter and Colsen. I'm looking forward to Archer's book after getting to know him a little bit in this book. A little bit of editing is needed with the odd grammar error throughout the book but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Luscious M/M romance between two hurting guys; hate turns to passion My preference in M/M romance is two buff guys and this one delivers just that! I loved the premise of this book but there needs to be some serious proofreading being done. There were missing words, wrong tenses, wrong words. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is b/c the story was so good. It would have been so much better with proper editing. Hunter is a 46yo LA police officer, former army ranger and a gay Dom who is currently numb with life. He can’t even get excited about going to the kink Club anymore. He needs to make some changes. But what? Six months later his former army buddy is getting married and having his Bachelor party in Vegas. Hunter is paired up with Colsen. Colsen is a 35yo NY cop whose mother who died and he blames himself. Six months later he has turned to alcohol to numb his regrets. He feels too much! He and Hunter are paired up in a suite for Dan’s Bachelor party and it is hate at first sight. When these two buff males begrudgingly decide to give into their desires…Oh. My. Word! The shower scene or their first time!!! What these two guys realize is that Hunter is a born “Daddy” who needs his “boy” to be happy. They find that in each other. But one lives in LA and the other in NY. How will that work? I liked this book so much I am torn whether to try one of CS Joyce’s other books b/c of the lack of editing. This is where reviews play a big part. I was offered an ARC through Gay Romance Reviews but chose to buy the book. I voluntarily offer my review.
Hunter’s Desire by author C.S. Joyce is the second book in the Dark Reserve series. I found this book doesn’t have to be read in order to get this storyline at all. There were a few things I found confusing about this book. One the prologue starts 6 months earlier, and then with no warning or ending or even start to the prologue we get chapter one. Just stating a random 6 months earlier is not a prologue. Now remember I read an arc; I hope in the finished product the author put something there. Cause it was confusing for me. Hunter is going to a friend’s bachelor party. He is a tough cop, ex-army ranger, and a burnt-out Dom. He needs a sub to take care of but feels he is too old for that now. Colson does not want to share a room with Hunter. He is too hell-bent on destroying himself for a friendship. He is a partner with Dan the groom getting married. He is pure rage when we meet him. I think that they both have what the other needs. Hunter needs to be a Daddy, and Colson is in desperate need of a Daddy to help him be stable again. I loved these two together. I loved this story and cannot wait for more from this author in the future. I know I will be in line to get the next book.
A REVIEW FOR THE FULL LENGTH BOOK. ♥️♥️🔥A first read for this author with this book. A great start I got in intro to Hunter 46 yrs as Cop and an former Dom. Hunter goes to Vegas for the weekend with friends for Dans bucks trip. Colsen was struggling with the death of his mother 6 months ago. Now 35 he's still drowning himself in liqueur in Vegas after his police job put him in hiatus for 2 weeks. A great start to the weekend and the two don't like each other one bit but it doesn't stop the sassy banter. Yah I had a few laughs with this one the guys are aww gorgeous together. Colson was just waiting to explode and Hunter was just the one to tame him from his anger. Lol sorry you gotta read this to see what I mean, kind of like an unlit fuse.. Wow this is a fantastic book with all the feels.. I'll say this there's a definite thin line between hate and love and these guys test it out to the max. Hot scenes and a issue with location distance. The ending of this is a gorgeous one. I highly recommend this to as its written beautifully.
The right mix of enemies to lovers. Two head strong men battle it out in a shared hotel room while their mutual friend Dan marries his boyfriend Theo in Vegas. Both Hunter and Colson have cop jobs: Hunter in LA and Colson in NY. But Colson is on self-destruct after his mother's death. His guilt of not being there for her in her time of need is a heavy burden that he only seems to be able to bury in the bottle. Hunter is also a cop but a burned out one because of loneliness. He's a highly reputed older Dom in the LA club scene but now seems to be in the mid-life crisis of loneliness. Hunter's dream of settling down, ha. "That dream could never be mine. I'd missed the boat and now it was too late." This isn't the average Daddy/Boy or December/May themed story that's for sure. Both men are strong willed with a lot of backbone though both have weaknesses that are played up on. An intense enough story for me that now I have to go back and read Book #1 "Theo's Game". I was given a GRR ARC of this book for my very honest review.
What is there not to like about this book. It’s an easy read, low angst, self destruction, realistic redemption, a daddy/boy kink (kind of), and just a good read.
Colsen is just a hot mess. He is tragic, his life at the moment is tragic, his job is becoming a tragedy waiting to happen and his friends see the tragedy but are unable to stop it.
Hunter is bored. He is lonely. He wants a relationship where he is needed but isn’t sure how to even voice that.
Hunter and Colsen’s best friend Dan is getting married. They’re having the bachelor party in Vegas. Hunter and Colsen meet and end up sharing a room together. It is not pretty. However, Hunter being a Dom and older has patience and skill to handle the situation. It is cool to watch this unfold. There are some funny spots, serious spots and a few unpredictable spots.
I think you will enjoy this hurt/comfort book that will leave you with a gentle smile.
This ARC was provided by the author for an honest review.
Colsen was full of so much anger, guilt and pain and it all leaked through his tough armour. A death sends him spiralling out of control but one person finally sees the pain he’s trying to bury. Can two damaged people find something special together?
Hunter and Colsen were amusing when they fought. Hunter’s baiting always brought out Colsen’s defiant and stubborn streak. These two were crazy hot together. Their steamy moments captured tender and intimate moments that warmed my heart.
There were parts of the book that felt rushed. Colsen spent quite a lot of time butting heads with Hunter and then pushing him away. I wanted to see a deeper connection develop between the two and how their relationship progressed after meeting again.
*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*
Book 2 in the Dark Reserves series, this book has a little more angst than the previous but it's tempered with scorching hot moments and a lot of heart. Hunter and Coulsen are both broken men looking for something to live for - a purpose - and during a bachelor weekend on Vegas they find that what they've been looking for is each other. I loved the dynamic of two strong men pushing against each other when what they really wanted was to hold on. Their battles with addiction and ghosts if the past are really heartfelt and you really get a sense for how lonely they really are. Seeing Dan and Theo again was the icing on a sprinkle cupcake and meeting some new friends was really great. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and I just know it's going to be as good as these have been.
Colton's life is spiraling out of control after an unfortunate incident leaves him reeling and on a path to self destruction. Hunter is a Dom who's lost his way in the BDSM community feeling burnt out. When they meet at a mutual friend's wedding, their initial animosity turns into unexpected passion. Hunter discovers he might just be a Daddy Dom in need of a boy and Colton realizes he really is perfect in the role of boy despite his initial misgivings about the Daddy/boy relationship. Both of these men desperately needed something only the other could give and it was beautiful to see them learn their own self worth through the other's eyes.
Two men who feel lost. Two men who can’t seem to find it in their hearts to live again. They have lost something and they don’t know what to do to get it back!
Colsen lost his mom six months before and he feels guilty about it. Hunter has lost his zest for the things that he used to love.
They are both attending their best friend’s bachelor party and they have been roomed together. Two strong Alpha males, one determined to self-destruct while the other wants to find a new purpose in life.
A love story that started with disliking each other, first impression and all. But somehow along the way they found out they are just what each other need.
A roller coaster ride of emotions. I’m loving this series and this storyline is no exception, emotive writing, angst, humour, witty, loveable characters and Hunter and Colsen both have had tragic pasts. The words flowed it was really hard to put down while I cooked tea. I loved the daddy kink, so much explosive intimate scenes. This is a must read and can’t wait for the next story.
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so. I absolutely recommend this book.
A great enemies to lovers story that I really enjoyed. Hunter and Colsen have a love/hate relationship from the moment they meet but they are perfect together. Colsen is on a one way street of self destruction and Hunter is just what he needs to help him get back on the right path. Colsen is just what Hunter needs to make his life complete. Colsen really challenges Hunter at every turn and I really like how patient and understanding Hunter is with everything. Love their HEA! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Colsen is a cop with his life spiraling out of control and realizes that he needs something to get in control.
Hunter is someone who likes to be in control and is a Dom. When these two meet they don't get along and they have a hate/love relationship.
There were some typos within the book, even though I noticed it didn't distract me from the story. I feel like the characters didn't feel connected to me more like they were thrown in together but still was a good book. Overall a good read with some angst, hate-to-lovers and a HEA.
Hunter is a long time friend of Dan (first book) is currently working for the LAPD. Colson is Dan's current partner in the NYPD but is going through a rough patch, is drinking so much that he on leave from work. Both are in Las Vegas for Dan's bachelor party weekend. Colson is drinking so much that he is being a real angry jerk to everyone. Hunter decides to take him on and they connect, but it is not smooth sailing. The book tells their story and how they work out their specific daddy kink. It is a well written story and highly recommended.
Age gap and daddy kink are my jam. So I might be extra critical of it... This book wasn’t what I was expecting. The hate sex was there but the connection felt off for daddy kink. You never felt the loving aspect until almost the end. The push and pull was more push away than pull together. It was frustrating as the reader at times.
I’m glad past characters made an appearance. I loved Dan and Theo’s part in this book AND the next book is Archer!
Dom Hunter is lost he lost his passion until he goes to Vegas for his best friend's Dan wedding. Colsen is a police officer and Dan partner in the police department and spiraling out of control in beer since his mother's death. Then Hunter turns from Dom to Daddy Dom not just anyone's Daddy but Colsen Daddy. This was a real page turner and these two clashed together so much you just want to see how the make it work together.
Hunter has been a Dom most of his life and somehow that isn't enough any more. Colsen is hurting because of his recent loss and he finds himself drinking the pain away. Both find themselves having to share a suite at the bachelor weekend of their good friend. Disliking each other on site they don't realise they're what each other needs. A hurt/comfort, daddy kink and a HEA makes for a good read.
Hunter's Desire was quite enjoyable sweet read. Both main characters are alphas, dominance but someone needs a Daddy desperately. This was fun to read, especially the sex scenes. And I was curious about Theo, since I haven't read his book. Seems like he's the kind of main character I love to read. Heading to Theo's book soon.
I love a good Daddy book. This book not only has that but it's also enemies to lovers!! Two of my favorite tropes. It was definitely got. It was about two older, muscular men fighting for dominance. Hunter and Colsen are a perfect compliment to each other. They both fight it at first but sparks fly when they finally give in. I definitely recommend this one.
This was an interesting story. I really love ennemies to lovers and this was a good example of the genre.
Hunter and Colsen are a hate at first sight kind of couple that slowly evolves as they let their guard down. I loved the pace of the book and the chemistry between these two.
I loved this story. Two men who can't stand each other. Both broken in their own way. Both find out something new about themselves as they fight their attraction. So good. So glad I found it!
Colsen is on a path for total destruction. Hunter is strong, lonely and a force to be reckoned with. These guys have their own demons, and doubts, but the tension is palpable. Wonderful storyline, with lots of heat
