"A guide to the nation's great national parks and their best hikes, ranging from short day hikes to backpacking treks and featuring scenic vistas, waterfalls, and information on lodging opportunities. Includes color photographs throughout"--
Lovely, well organized book. Since I am not doing any travel these days I figured I'd become an armchair traveler. This book has all the American National Parks, large and small, with information and photos. In the back is a chapter on "How to Visit and Walk the National Parks" and includes tips on how to avoid the crowds, respecting the park and fellow visitors, etc. I was also impressed with the handy chart at the end that lists all the parks, their trails with the length/degree of difficulty, best month to hike, etc.
The next best thing to being there. I miss the national parks!!!
This was a good book for those people who like to hike the National Parks. Good to read which hikes they took and recommended. However too many references to global warming/climate change that I felt were unnecessary. This topic did not interfere with their hiking but references that it might with future hikers. Overall good reference for those brave enough to hike the NP.
I have visited almost all of the National Parks and have hiked in many of them. While this was an informative book, the lack of maps of the walks detracted from the experience.
