Life for Charlie Sutton has never been better, or busier. With Travis now a permanent fixture of Sutton Station, a permanent fixture at Charlie’s side, Charlie’s convinced he couldn’t do anything on his ever-growing to-do list without him.

He can run a multimillion dollar cattle business, finish his degree, try and further the local beef industry, deal with staff issues, Ma’s failing health, and an attention-demanding wombat. He can even deal with an unexpected visitor and some shattering news.

He can deal with it all, as long as he has Travis.

But what happens when he doesn’t?

Red Dirt Heart 3 is the story of Charlie Sutton finally realising he can be the man Travis Craig deserves, even if he doesn’t have Travis. It’s a story of love, family, holding on, letting go and coming home.

“Promise me forever, Charlie. Tell me we’re in this forever.”
My heart near burst out of my chest. “Forever.”

I have read more than 1000 books, and this is only the 15th book I’m giving five stars.

Despite my average rating, I do rate according to how I feel after reading a book (including in between), but yes, the smallest of smallest things can/do influence my general satisfaction. That’s why my four star books are close to being perfect, because they just missed the mark, because if the smallest issue and problem wasn’t there, I would happily give the book five stars. Everything comes down to the overall execution, of course. My friends know me as not giving this rating easily or being a picky reader, which I’ve come to embrace now.

Which is why I’m so fucking delighted to give this what it deserves, because there was not a single moment of weariness, disappointment, and irritation. There were no eye-rolling moments, and just sensations of appreciation and love.

Walker was one of the first authors I read when I started my MM romance journey. I have read 35 of her works, but this is the first time I’m giving one of her books five stars. I was shocked, to say the least, when I finished this. While reading, I noticed I didn’t have any frustrated moments between the reading, nothing that bothered or annoyed me. Then, when I finished, I didn’t even hesitate and told myself, “I’m giving this five stars.”

Five stars for Charlie and Travis. For their affection, profound association, and delicacy. From their talk, to their companionship, to their sentiment, to even the sex, these two have become one of my all-time favorite MM couples, and I am nothing but grateful to N.R. Walker for creating such a beautiful couple like them. For every one of my complaints of this genre, grumpy Charlie and sunshine Travis show me why I still read and love it.

Five stars for the longing, pining, and yearning Charlie showed us when Travis was gone. As sad as this chapter made me, I cherished the inclination behind Charlie’s activities and contemplations. It truly showed his adoration for Travis, and showed how he needed to put his narrow-mindedness aside and contemplate how Travis would feel. I think it truly showed his personality too due to the amount of a difficult individual he is, which is something he’s working on but can’t exactly stop. I wanted to strangle Charlie sometimes but never got to a point where he annoyed me. I felt for him, and it made me sad how he didn’t think he was worthy enough for Travis.

“I’ll tell you everything,” he said, wiping my cheeks with his thumbs. “In fact, I can show you. When we get back home, I can show you. I didn’t ignore you, Charlie. I was always coming back. Always.” He put his forehead to mine. “You keep calling Texas my home, but I can tell you right now, going back to Texas made me realise something, Charlie. My home is here. With you. You keep saying I want to go home, well, I am home. Now. Here. With you.”

Five stars for Charlie’s grumpy exterior, with his tenacity, pride, strength, and initiative.
Five stars for Travis and his jokes, for his patient, joyous, and amusing character.

I fell asleep wrapped up in Travis with him tracing circles on my back. I dreamt of blue eyes, smug smiles and Southern drawls, and even in my dreamin’ sleep, I’d never felt so loved.

Five stars for the family—Ma, George, Ernie, Billy, Trudy, Bacon, Nara, and the addition of Laura, Sam, and Ainsley.

Five stars for Nugget, the adorable Wombat who won’t feed from anyone but Charlie.

Five stars for the beauty of the red desert—the bright blue skies, the deserted land, the animals, the cultivating local area, the open country and view, the engaging nature.

Five stars for Charlie’s development—from being in the closet, to still being weary of his surroundings, to no longer caring what others think. He knows he’s good at his job, and he won’t back down for making the right choice of putting people in their place. He’s progressed significantly, and keeping in mind that it’s as yet clear he’s not totally open and out to general society, he won’t remain quiet any more.

Five stars for the closeness and delicacy in the sexual moments, for the profound bond just developing, for the future in their eyes.

Five stars for the foot-holding, nose-nudges, gentle kisses, cuddling, hugging, resting, hand-holding, cheek-kisses, kisses on the side of the head.

He held my face in both hands, and his eyes were closed, his lips barely moved against mine in an almost kiss. He nudged my nose with his, making my knees go weak, and I chuckled. “It still gets me,” I whispered.
Travis opened his eyes slowly, as if he was drunk and completely unaware of what he’d done. “What gets you?”
“You and your nose nudges,” I answered. “I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it.”

Five stars for causing me to feel everything with this that is all good — profound, cheerful, content, thrilled.

Five stars for everything—the romance, the characters, the dialogue, the atmosphere.

A new all time favorite and a new comfort read (if I’m ever in need in one).

This was such a lovely denouement to one of the best M/M series of all time.

Let's begin with NUGGET:

Nugget and Charlie are a thing, you see, and they kind of steal the show here.

Charlie has a potential major buyer for the cattle, which would bring a steady income to the station, and a board election coming up. But Ma is feeling rundown and tired, and Trudy and Bacon have something big to say. As if that weren't enough, a stranger arrives at the station, someone Charlie should remember but doesn't.

Life is full of surprises and revelations, but Charlie and Trav weather the ups and downs with grace. They are each other's rock, and they don't let go.
"I only encouraged you to do all those things because I want the world to see the Charlie I see...Because he's really kinda great."

"I can't be that Charlie...not without you."

His voice cracked. "You have to be."

There are tears to be shed before the joy. Charlie has to be strong enough on his own, and he has to trust in Travis' love.
I told him if missin' him were miles, I'd have gone as far as the moon and back.

While Charlie is now a much more confident and self-assured man than he was when he first met Trav, he still frets and doesn't believe that he can have it all.

Standing right there in the middle of the desert, surrounded by vast open plains of red, red dirt, with [Travis'] touch, his kiss, his smell, [Charlie] was...home.

Charlie's voice is genuine and heartfelt, the writing honest and true.

I've grown to love these characters: Ma, George, Billy, Nara, Trudy, Bacon, the red dirt, Sutton Station. They feel REAL.

And that's the hallmark of a great book, isn't it? When you don't want the story to end and yet know that it continues without you.
"Promise me forever, Charlie. Tell me we're in this forever."

My heart near burst out of my chest. "Forever."

My brain on Travis-and-Charlie endorphins:

And it comes out in less than a month?

Holy shit, THAT cover.

Why is this series so good? Why do Charlie and Travis make my heart so happy? One of my favorite gay/mm series. Light on the dramatics and heavy on the introspection and heart. Between the nose nudges, foot holding under the table, and the crinkles of blue eyes, Travis had Charlie wrapped so tight around his heart.
He lay on me, his legs between mine, his weight on top of me feeling so damn good, and peeled my hands away. The look on his face was one of concern and so much fucking love. “You okay?”

I smiled despite my mood. “I have you. I will always be okay.”
Charlie continues to flourish under Travis' love. No longer ashamed to be a gay rancher in a very conservative town, he slowly begins to blossom and I loved every second of this beautiful story.
I fell asleep wrapped up in Travis with him tracing circles on my back. I dreamt of blue eyes, smug smiles and Southern drawls, and even in my dreamin’ sleep, I’d never felt so loved.

THERE IS SO MUCH LOVE IN THIS I DONT KNOW HOW TO COPE THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL OMGG

I just love this series. It’s been a little while since I read book 2 but the moment I read the first sentence of this one it felt like coming home.

First things first: Nugget the baby wombat was the absolute star of this book and his and Charlie’s relationship melted my fucking ovaries 🫠🫠

And it was good that we had him lighting up the plot, because this book dealt with some heavy themes (tw cancer, hospitalisation) and it hit me hard. I normally steer clear of cancer subplots, but the lovely Sandy prepared me in a way that I was able to manage - thanks girl, you’re the best 🧡
Still, in that sense it was a really difficult read for me and there were many tears shed. The ugly kind, the joyful kind, the ‘I can’t believe this is so beautiful’ kind 🥺

I absolutely adored how Travis and Charlie weathered these storm(s) together. They’re such a strong couple and each and every interaction between the two made me believe in their steadfast love more and more. All the talking and communication, every nose nudge (😭), and their absolute certainty about the other was beautiful to read and made for some impressive relationship and especially character development (I’m talking about you, Charlie 🫶).

Their connection and love just oozed out of the pages in such a convincing way and made me feel weak in the knees 🥹 I love them so, so much.

I also absolutely adored how themes of motherhood and parenthood were seamlessly woven into this story - never overdone, but deeply impactful.

This was my fav of the series so far, despite or maybe because of all the tears. I could honestly read about this little family and Sutton Station forever.

Ugh, my heart is so happy 🥹🧡

Love Travis and Charlie so much! They come such long way. I didn’t think they could love each other more. I have to say I have a special spot for Charlie his come such a long way from book one. This particular installment I saw a growth with Charlie’s character he really impressed me even as he broke my heart he did put it back together. Travis as always the absolute best the perfect man for Charlie. I love how realistic these guys feel especially with the hard work they do at the station and how much they both work hard to maintain it. I’m looking forward to continuing this series and seeing more of one my beloved couples. ❤️

All of the stars for Nugget!

And of course the rest of the gang!

These books have a bit of angst and they all pack a bit of an emotional punch.

Travis and Charlie are one of the best couples I've read about!

So, so good!

So excited to get in to Travis' head for the last book!

After Charlie came out to all the farmers in the community, Charlie was expecting a lot of backlash. However, that wasn't the case. Sure, there were a few who looked down on him because of his sexual orientation, but for the most part, the majority of the farmers respected him for the simple fact that he was a farmer just like them. Charlie gets good news when it seems they could have steady income from a potential cattle buyer, and he could possibly be elected in the board elections. So, business wise, things are going good for Charlie, but the other parts in his life, not so much.

Unfortunately, a lot things happen in Charlie's personal life that made my heart hurt for him. Ma isn't feeling too well and tires quickly, and Travis has family matters to attend to in Texas, so he leaves Australia. I was really sad by the fact that there was still a small part of Charlie that still believed he may be undeserving of love, or that Travis could just leave him at any moment. It seriously broke my heart, and that is what I loved about this book. I could actually feel everything Charlie was going through, more so than I ever had in the previous two books. I found myself actually falling for Charlie in this book, as well. The cuteness overload I experienced when Charlie was feeding Nugget, the baby wombat, had my heart near bursting. It was just so adorable that I couldn't help but smile.

I can't say enough how much I loved this book. It was full of surprises both good and bad, and quite emotional as well. Travis and Charlie are definitely one of my top favourite m/m couples ever. They are just so perfect for each other. I loved the story-line in this one. I also really loved the secondary characters. I loved seeing how far Charlie has grown since book one. He was still a bit insecure but he finally found a voice and felt comfortable in his own skin. I loved Travis and still very much do because of his sweetness. That ending was amazing and beautiful. Just LOVED it! I can't wait to see what the next and final part have in store for them all. I highly recommend you give this series a try.

This is the third installment in “Red Dirt Heart” series by N.R. Walker.

This book warmed my heart! I liked the two previous books in the series, but this one – I LOVE IT! This installment is by far the best in the series, at least so far. Like the other books in the series, “Red Dirt Heart” it’s a story about love and family, about friends, about what “home” really means.

The story of Charlie and Travis continues and like its predecessors, it picks up right where the previous book ends. Charlie’s coming out as gay within the small town farming community hadn’t been too bad. He expected to be a lot worse. So, life goes on...

There’s a lot happening in this book at the Sutton Station and there’s a lot happening between Charlie and Travis.

Charlie meets a potential buyer for his beef cattle, his relationship with Travis is stronger, so life is good. But Ma isn’t well and all falls apart when they found out she has cancer.

There’s a lot of revelations in this book, but Charlie and Travis’s relationship remains solid. But what will happen with them when Travis has to leave Charlie and go back to Texas?

“It’s like having one lung removed. I can still live and breathe, but God, it’s not the same. My chest hurts and I have this hollow emptiness that weighs me down. And sometimes I think of him out of the blue and it stops me right where I stand, and I have to catch my breath.”

I loved this one! The storyline was entertaining and capture my attention from the start. There’s obviously some drama and angst, but nothing overwhelming, which I really liked.

Once again, Charlie and Travis are perfect and perfect for each other. I adored how caring, loving, considerate and most of all supportive are with each other, especially Travis. I loved how Travis knew every single time what to say to Charlie to help him and how he's just was what Charlie needs.

“Sitting right next to me, holding my hand, with the bluest of blue eyes, was the only person on the planet who really knew me. He knew my every secret, my every mood, dream and need, he’d seen the worst side of me, and yet he still sat beside me.“

description

I loved the new Charlie in this installment. He grows up, he stands for himself and for who he is. I really admired him for that! He’s not ashamed of who he is, not anymore. He changed a lot, for Travis and for him too. At some point my heart broke for Charlie, even if I knew in the end everything will be just fine. Even if he changed a lot since Travis came to the Station, he still thinks he’s not worth it, that he’s not worth it coming back for.

Charlie and Travis’s interactions and their interactions with the others are lovely and their dialogue was great and felt real. Their banter also was pretty great. I also loved how Charlie is with Nugget (the wombat). Just adorable!

Once again the side characters are so lovely – Ma, George, Nara, Trudy and the others and the writing was fantastic.

All in all, “Red Dirt Heart3” was a great book with endearing characters, great plot and fantastic writing!

I love the crew on Sutton Station, reading this series feels like coming home. It actually feels like a real place. And there really is so much heart in this. One of the rare, well done Aussie outback romances out there. All the characters are solidly written with just the right of relatability and charm. This series remains incredibly easy to read with a whole lotta tender emotion between not only Charlie and Travis but the whole bloody team, Nugget included 😍

-found family goals ✅
-cute animal goals ✅
-established couple goals ✅

I have zero complaints.

Except maybe Laura..I give Travis free rein to tell her to piss off!

Ugh this one brought the drama and the feels. Charlie is still an idiot sometimes but he figures it out much more quickly.
I want a Nugget of my very own.

Joel Leslie does some epic narration in this one. I love when the narrator is a skilled actor and not just a reader.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

I wanted Travis to have me, to take me, to make me his. I wanted to give him what he gave me, and I wanted him to know I belonged only to him.

I don’t really have tons to say that I haven’t already for the first two books, but this book really is just as good as the others in the series. Probably the angstiest one as well. Nothing awful, but a smidge more than the previous books. It’s so good. There’s something about this series that feels super special. Like you become a part of Sutton Station for a while when reading. God, that sounds cheesy as hell, but if you’ve read these books, I bet you know what I mean.

You can somehow spend three books straight in mostly the same location, with the same (found) family, and not get bored at all. I love it. And I can’t forget to mention Nugget (the baby wombat). Star of the show, honestly.

The sound of Travis snorting made us both look over to him. “Look at this,” he said, putting Nugget on the floor with some more apple. The little wombat took a tiny bite and jolted, then did some random jumpy-turning-in-circles thing. Travis laughed again. “I think he likes apple.” Nugget then faced the door and bolted, his little stubby legs moving long before his body, but he scooted out the door and Travis took off after him.

Book 3 • m/m • Australian outback setting •

Can these books have any more heart?? 🥹

I am thoroughly enjoying this series, seeing Charlie grow more and more comfortable in his skin after coming out (very publicly!) in the last book. He is learning to not worry so much about what others may or may not be thinking of him and as a result his personal relationships with everyone on the station are deepening. He has family now, like he has never had before.

This book is a bit slower, feels more slice of life than the previous books. Navigating their relationship while working and living together is such a joy to read. I don’t know exactly what it is about Charlie and Travis, but their relationship and their love reads so genuine that I could read about them doing their grocery shopping and still thoroughly enjoy every moment. Their love is so undeniable in all their interactions, and I just can’t get enough.

I loved Nugget and Charlie. The way he calls nugget ‘little shit’ is SO Australian I loved this haha.

Laura’s character really shitted me. Her timing was SO bad and she was SO unprofessional I just could not cope with her at all. I wish Trav was meaner to her 🤭

On the whole, this series so far has had very realistic feeling depictions of life out on remote Australian cattle stations. But this time, the speed at which Ma’s issue was dealt with was super unrealistic, (where do we find a family doctor so skilled?) but admittedly it did move the story along nicely. Also an ED Dr would NEVER give a vaccine themselves, just saying. 😅 I can’t help myself in picking apart anything medical, must stop doing this but I just can’t 🫣

Also I am lowkey disappointed none of the Poddy calves were named Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou or Ben Gilles…

Anyway, loved this. Once again buddy read with Sarah, who listened to me hate on Laura 😅

Travis and Charlie are SO cute and lovely together. 😭😭 i loved seeing them be so… domestic (we got it in the previous book too, but idk. i really loved it here). THE NOSE NUDGES!!! the foot holding!!! i’m weak for lil affectionate acts like that. this book does feel a bit more angsty compared to the first two and i think it’s bc so much happened in terms of plot and i could genuinely feel Charlie’s stress. he had so much to deal with one after another, i just wanted to hug him. this book is also probably the most i’ve cried in this series so far (and not always the heartbreak kind of cry bc there were some heartfelt moments i cried in here too). Charlie’s development has been one of my absolute favorites to read about and he’s come so, so far compared to the beginning, it truly makes me proud. :’) i also just loved the whole family in the ranch too, as well as the found family bond. <3

Love that I loved it so much on a second read and that these people still touch my heart.

Original review

Another winner in this wonderful series! N.R. Walker definitely nailed it when she wrote these books. So... I have been trying to figure out why this story just gets me EVERY SINGLE time.

Not sure if I get all the points, but one thing's for sure:
I damn care about Charlie and Travis. They are brilliantly crafted MCs. I love the way they interact with each other: playful on the one side (their teasing cracks me up) but so romantic and in love that you yelp with all the little things they do and say (key word: 'nose nudging')

Charlie has grown up quite a bit - he talks about his feelings now, a lot, and he is turning into a highly successful business man. And he is out and proud. He stands up for himself and for being gay. God, I was proud of him, too! And I was hugging him for opening up to other people, too.

But some of the old self-doubt and anxiety very stubbornly remain. Particularly when it comes to Travis leaving and thinking that he could never be who he is without him.

Of course life has a habit of just throwing things at you, and it certainly does in copious amounts here. News just prattle down on Sutton Station and Charlie and he is challenged to his limit, particularly when the one thing happens he fears most.

Travis is Charlie's rock, but what Charlie learns here is that rocks also crumble a bit a times.

Darn, I had tears in my eyes quite a few times, some happy, some sad, but all good in the end. (Ok. That one e-mail really got me, I admit it). And Charlie took another huge step forward in his own personal development:

...I realised that I could be me without him, I just didn't want to be.

There is something incredibly 'normal' about the story. There is no exaggerated drama, forced angst or fabricated complications. It is 'just' real life and getting through it, with all the fears, challenges and happiness that come with it. I could see a whole series on TV called "Sutton" about what happens on a day to day basis on the ranch. I love it!

There is no way I'm getting round this review without a mention of Nugget (sorry I love all the other 'not so' secondary characters, too, but...) Nugget and Charlie are just priceless. Cuteness personified (both!) This is exactly how I imagine 'the little guy'

Nugget

Finally I think what gets me most is how all these people care about each other. How they are there for each other and have each other's backs. It's what you wish and hope for - to have people like that around you.

Highly recommended!

Charlie is finally coming into his own. He's out and not ashamed. He has the love of his life beside him and all is well. Until it isn't. Ma is sick and Travis has to leave. But what if Travis doesn't come back?

I am in love with these two. They are so sweet and loving to each other. I love how they NEED each other, really just to breathe.
"I couldn’t tell him I was petrified of doing this on my own. Because I was certain I couldn’t. I couldn’t do any of this without him."~Charlie

When the unthinkable happens, Charlie has to come to terms with the fact Travis may not come back but he has a family and a home that depend on him to get his shit together and keep moving forward.
"Something had changed here. I used to keep everyone at arm’s length, keepin’ the line between boss and station hand real clear. Now this unruly mob were like family."~Charlie

My heart was breaking for a lot of the book. Not just with what happened to Ma but when Travis has to leave, Charlie tore my heart out thinking he wasn't worth coming back for.
"I told myself not to stop. Not to think. Not to pay any mind to the ache in my chest that made it hard to breathe."~Charlie

"...the nights damn near killed me. That was when bein’ lonely and bein’ alone seemed one and the same. That was when the missing-him was at its worst."~Charlie

But this is Walker so we know it's going to end well, it's just painful getting there.
“You keep calling Texas my home, but I can tell you right now, going back to Texas made me realise something, Charlie. My home is here. With you. You keep saying I want to go home, well, I am home. Now. Here. With you".~Travis

“Promise me forever, Charlie. Tell me we’re in this forever.” My heart near burst out of my chest. “Forever.”~Travis and Charlie

Never. Ever. Ever. Give up.

Don't give up on NR Walker.

Don't give up on Charlie & Travis.

Don't give up on a baby wombat. (huh?)

Let's review shall we? I LOVED book 1. I was tepid about book 2. Book 3 started very slowly for me. Lots of sex. Lots of "Oh Travis" *swoon* "Oh Charlie" *swoon back*. And that's fine...but it got to be a bit boring for my liking. Though I care for all these characters and I AM interested (I swear I am!) in the happenings of their day to day lives, it just wasn't holding my attention.

And them BAM!

Go back to line 1: Never. Ever. Ever. Give up.

This book took an emotional turn that had me in tears page after page. I felt Charlie's insecurity. I felt his pain. I felt his anger. I felt his strength. I felt his resignation. I felt his sadness. I felt his lonliness. And it HUUUUUURRRRTTTT!

Those who know me, know that I don't like the angsty bits too much. But, if there's a reason for it, if the story takes me someplace I need to go to get to where I want to be? Ok, I'll do it. That's what happened here. NR Walker took us to that place. And it wasn't this huge WHACK over the head. It was subtle. And the ache was real. And because this is her, she brought us back...to a place of joy and healing and love. To our much-desired HEA...to Charlie's and Travis' true love ending.

I cried. I did that thing I do when I earned it...I hugged my Kindle. And, well...I wanted more!!!! GAH! I want more Charlie and Travis! So, Ms. Walker, whattaya say...MORE?

PS: Nugget kinda steals the show...just saying...

Another stellar book. Another great adventure.

So much happens in this book. New characters and new stories. Charlie and Travis being awesome together. Facing every difficulty together and apart.

I like that the story is told by Charlie's POV. He is more complex than Travis. Charlie keeps everything inside and that makes it harder for him to cope with everything and everyone. I felt for him. I hurt for him and with him. He just wants to be happy and be loved. Travis is his forever that he fears so much it won't be achievable.

I liked Travis in this. I like how he loves Charlie with everything he is and how he supports him. They're so good together, so beautiful, it hurts in the best way.

This book was full of heart braking moments and tender ones too. I like how Charlie's employees aren't his employees, but part of his big family. Ma and everyone else( new entries also) make this book awesome.

And what can I say about Nugget? I want a baby wombat. I need one right now. So cute!

It feels like the series is coming to an end and I'm so unhappy about that. But I want to know that they're going to be HEA, so, on to the next one!

These guys! ❤️❤️❤️
I hate long series. I usually give up with a HFN at some point in a series because I get bored. But I can’t get enough of these two. The ending here definitely qualifies as a HEA.

So why am I jumping straight to book 4 for another 300+ pages?

5 Brilliant Red Desert Stars

“It’s a year today since I walked into my kitchen and you stood up, all blue eyes and disarming smiles…”

I love how Charlie and Travis are perfect for each other.
“When I thought he was going to kiss me, he didn’t. He nudged his nose to mine. It took my breath away.
“Believe me now?” he whispered against my cheek.
I shook my head just a little, trying to remember how to breathe.”

Charlie is still dealing with his insecurities. He is now a much more confident and self-assured man than he was when he first met Trav, but he still worries and doesn't believe that he can have it all.*sigh*

Nugget was annoying as hell and cute as a pie.

The ending was just beautiful.

“You keep calling Texas my home, but I can tell you right now, going back to Texas made me realise something, Charlie. My home is here. With you. You keep saying I want to go home, well, I am home. Now. Here. With you.”

Re-read March 2021 - Perfection! This series is perfection!

Review
Nope. Nah-uh, not fair! There is no way that book is allowed to not have a warning attached for known side-effects of, melting hearts and happy tears.

This one wrecked me, in the best possible way! I was that goofy person with a massive smile and tears welling in my eyes, virtually the entire time I was reading this.

Charlie goes through a hell of a lot in this book! And Travis is right there being the rock he is.

Charlie definitely has his 'Charlie moments' where everything seems terrible when it's actually not. More so than the other books, hearing Charlie try and work through those moments felt heavier and I was so thankful for Travis and his nose-nudges and hugs. I needed a Travis hug!

God these two are such a beautiful couple and if I wasn't teary before than damn epilogue I was most certainly crying like a loony after it!!

All the hearts forever for this book!

Have you ever thought to yourself 'I wish a was a wombat'? No? Then you should really read this book because I kept wishing that I was little Nugget the whole time.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I love N.R. Walker's books. I am a HUGE fan. The other series that I have read are FANTASTIC! But this is by FAR my favorite.

I love Charlie and Travis and they are one of my top set of characters from any book. I would so do a threesome with them.

That is all.

Re-read #1

I forgot how much Charlie broke my heart in this one, I cried so much!! I knew all this stuff was coming but it still hurt to read just as much this time around, and the worst thing hasn't even happened yet...I'm going to be an emotional wreck 😂😂

Travis and Charlie together are so cute, and I love seeing their relationship progress and their character growth. Charlie really comes into his own in this book, the way he stands his ground and comes out looking like the better man is just everything! His emotional struggles are still there, he still thinks he isn't worth loving, but Travis is just so amazing.

So much happens in this book and it will put you through the emotional wringer. From Ma and George, to Laura and Sam, and finally Travis needing to go to Texas.... I really think I need a nap from how much I cried because these character's feel like family and it hurts to see them hurt. I love how NR Walker does this to my emotions 😂

Nugget is adorable too as is the way Charlie dotes on him, and the funny cow names reminded me of when I named all my chickens in the Sims after different chicken foods (wings, jerk, kfc) so I'm totally with Travis on his naming process!

I don't know if I'm ready for what I know is coming....

October 17th - Buddies Reading together - Elsbeth, Carolien, Susan, Julie, Kaylor, Eva, Barbara, Isabel, Trisha, Mel and Marco!

Again with the beautiful Australia scenery!!

We have once more Charlie and Travis wich are perfect and perfect for each other!

“Like an anchor or a saving grace, he grounded me. I don’t know how he knew, but he always seemed to do, say, be just what I needed. “
“I wanted Travis to have me, to take me, to make me his. I wanted to give him what he gave me, and I wanted him to know I belonged only to him”

The plot was entertaining and capture my attention from the start, there’s a lot of revelations in this book. There’s some drama and angst, but nothing overwhelming, which I really liked, for me this book is about family, trust and forgiveness! I just want more of the whole Sutton Station!

At the end…Happy *sigh*!

Also there might be an extra book in Travis' POV … such good news!!

Ah...Can ever forget this…

4.5 Stars

Sweet, fluffy, perfection.

Everything that happens to these characters are these everyday kind of bombshells that keep the angst level at a mid range...and how Walker manages to keep it from ever being too much, but rather always keeping it just enough drama, is rather brilliant. Kudos.

The narration by Joel Leslie is really the cherry on top. I love his character voices, timing, emotion, and obvious enjoyment telling the story.

Note for sticklers: there are a couple of word flubs (example: architecture instead of agriculture), but they do not diminish the enjoyment of the story.

🤠❤️‍🩹🐮

This series just keeps doing everyyyy thinggggg right omg! From Nugget, to nose nudges, to a heart-wrenching, catastrophizing Charlie, who really struggled with believing he was worthy of Travis' love.

The calamities in this installment were intense, destabilizing, and emotionally challenging, so I didn't blame Charlie at all for spiralling, feeling wrung out by uncertainty, and thinking the worst when it was just him and his gloomy thoughts keeping him up at night.

He's the sharpest cattle dude in red dirt country, and he didn't get good at surviving and thriving in the desert just on stats alone. And the opportunities for his heart's flourishing were even more sparse than the harsh land he'd learned to cultivate and make prosper.

So, he'd been bracing himself for the possibility that the best thing he'd ever wished for would no longer want to share that life with him from since Book 1.

If Charlie was a master yearner "I'll live on the memories of loving you till I die" in Book 1, then Book 3 showed him how much life without Travis in it sucked and would suck, and that living it made him feel more like a ghost in a melancholy meat suit at best.

Mostly.

Because Nugget, and homophobic a-holes, his family (both found and dna) drama at the homestead, and getting his fine gay a$s elected to a board of predominantly boomers, so that he could help drag the association into a more technologically advanced way of doing cattle biz, kept this man BUSYYYYYY!

It was only when he wasn't actively being THAT GUY, leading the charge or diffusing sticky situations at the farm, not spilling tea, and keeping Nugget alive, was he able to be sad fr.

I didn't blame him for how much he missed Travis. I didn't blame him for being sad, despondent Charlie. His formative years were lonely as the only kid around, and save for a handful of folks with red dirt in their veins, most people didn't stick around. But he tried his best, made important emotional connections more than ever before, supported everyone who needed it, made sure he took care of everyone and every animal who depended on him, and showed up when asked because he was ready to make the kind of professional impact that would enact change in his industry.

Soooooo much happened in this book, and ofc the ending ONCE AGAIN took me out at the knees and had me SOBBING!! Happy that Sutton Station has added more hands/feet/hooves/hearts to love, and I'm looking forward to Book 4's happily ever after, even though I will miss Charlie and Travis for all eternity when the series is over.😢
