*Be sure to read the author's note for a special announcement!
This is book 2 in the Aces High MC - Charleston Series and this is a series that should be read in order.
Lucy
I fell in love with Charles “Double-D” Brothers when I was just 16 years old. He was 19 and had just patched into the Aces High MC in Charleston, SC. The falling in love part didn’t matter though, because our life – our love – wasn’t destined to be an easy one. Then again, nothing worth having ever is. In the beginning – I was too young, he was too wild, and my family was able to send me away to keep us apart. Later, when I was 20 and he was 23 our paths crossed again. This time he was the one ready for me, but I wasn’t quite there yet. I allowed the club whores and rumors to drive me away, and then I let my pride and more lies keep me away despite the secret I took with me.
Double-D
The perfect woman was out there waiting for me to find her – again. Twice I’d lost her now, and twice it had been avoidable. It’s a damn shame that life had a nasty habit of screwing me over because we were far from done with the roller coaster we’d been on so far. It didn’t matter though. The ride could keep on getting bumpier, and I’d never jump off. She was worth every single thing I had to endure just to feel her in my arms at the end of the day. If only I could keep her from running again…
*This is not an insta-love story. It’s the story of a lifetime.
As with The Other Princes (Aces High MC - Charleston Book 1) this is a different book in the MC Romance sub-genre. It deals heavily with internal family issues and less with outside club vs club drama.
Christine Michelle runs on coffee and giggles as she writes her angst-fueled romance stories (motorcycle club, rockstar, paranormal, college, & other contemporary as well as women's fiction and marriage in trouble novels). She is a mom to four humans (2 girls, 2 boys – all grown now). When she's not writing books, she enjoys reading, drawing, hiking, or feeding her soul with live music at concerts. Christine is a traveler and has lived all over the USA (and other parts of the world). She currently lives in Rapid City, South Dakota with her two fur babies.
I added a star because I liked the second reading more, perhaps because I read it in sequence. Our hero was brutally betrayed by club members, whom he should have trusted and counted on as having his back, he ended up having his life destroyed and suffering the consequences. Our heroine was also brutally betrayed by the person she trusted most. It was painful to watch such a beautiful love be destroyed and so much time lost because of it. But nothing justifies his attitude towards Ever, after all, a little girl is not to blame for her parents' sins.
Until we're set free in the wind..... I've been sitting here for awhile trying to decide what the heck to write for this review .... contemplating ... wondering...even had to walk away for a bit. That's how much I loved this book. I have to admit nothing I mean nothing will top "The Other Princess" for myself but dangit this one came really close. Everything I mean everything I've read by this author so far is just brilliantly done and the character build up is just amazing. The structure of the stories and well just everything is so well thought out. If you walked away with questions from the first book in this series some are definitely answered in this one. Still got a few questions though????? but I'm not going to put them in this review. Just know that if I could give this 50 STARS!! I would. Ok I digress....so here goes the review. Lucy and Double D's story well in this story anyways takes place over a 31 year span. And boy is it just heartbreaking, joyous, hot sex, angsty, and I did say heartbreaking right?? You fall in love with these characters and they are like your own family and you feel every emotion the characters are experiencing to the point where I had to walk away from my kindle for a bit and just blow my ugly snotty running nose and just breathe for a bit before finishing the book it was that devastating for myself. That's how wrapped up I'm in the story. My anticipation for this book was off the hook and couldn't wait for it and it DID NOT disappoint this avid reader. Just know that some things that weren't covered in THE OTHER PRINCESS is covered in this book. I don't want to give much away so I'm going to leave this review with a song I think fits perfectly with Double D and Lucy's journey. So give it a listen and he's one of my favorite musician's so check it out... Sully Erna "My Light" You've become my light I cross my heart that's in your hands With hope that you'll always be my best friend....
See it's perfect for the journey of these two awesome characters. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and series but you need to read "The Other Princess" first or you won't get the full effect of the story.
I was in two minds about reading Double-D and Mamma Luce's story, I couldn#t for the life of me see how Christine could redeem Double-D in my eyes after reading The Other Princess. Well she not only redeemed him, she made us totally understand and root for him. What him and Lucy went through to be together, the crap other people did to seperate them and then try keep them apart, would have broken even the strongest people. This love story isn't a quick one or without its pain and angst, it spans from their teens into their 50's, and shows their growth as two people individually and together with a forever love. I loved this book, especially the last third of it, and if you read Christine#s foreword you will understand why I make a point of saying that. You have to read this after The Other Princess, just have the tissues ready, because if you cried in the first book, you will definitely go to pieces in this one. Well done Christine, a truly incredible read.
I read book one which was Ever’s story. It was good. THIS story was off the charts. It is Double D aka CJ and Lucy’s story. I love reading my romance stories. Love reading the how couples overcome their problems. This was more than just overcoming problems. This spans years of love, frustration, hate, hurt, love, and everything else. Loved how this author wrote this story even though it spanned 30 years of their life, it didn’t feel like it. I felt like I was there with CJ and Lucy watching their love unfold. Beautiful story.
I went into this book totally prejudiced, totally. See, I found CJ/DD repugnant in the previous book for doing and allowing others to do to his daughter what that did. It was abusive, cruel and abhorrent and he did not give that first damn. Not even Lucy could get through to him the damage he was doing. However, I actually really liked the young CJ and felt for what he went through leading up to him and Lucy finally getting back together ......... until Evers came on the scene and then all the hatred I have for that swine came back, on 'roids.
I struggled with him for most of the second part of the book, mainly due to getting his POV with what went down with Evers. Let me tell you, I felt for Evers in her book but reading what this POS excuse for a father actually allowed made me want to puke. I still don't buy their redemption arc as far as Evers goes though, it just didn't work.
Lucy is everything I want to read in a character, I loved her POV on Evers joining their family, the author really tugged at my heartstrings. I felt for her when they lost someone very precious to them, especially as she did it mainly on her own.
Their story goes full circle and at times broke my heart and is such a massive improvement on The Other Princess. I'm so glad I read it - and in one sitting too, it's one that will stay with me.
This is now HANDS DOWN one of my all time favorite series to date. Definitely up in my top 5 favorite MC series! I cannot praise this series enough, not to even mention the author! This series is soooo emotional, and sooo real, I really started experiencing a lot of different emotions. It isn't often that a book will really draw me in emotionally and hit those "so called" feels, but this series does. Is it a light read? Ohh, definitely not. By any means. But it really makes you think... I seriously don't know what else to say. This series is EVERYTHING.
This might have been the most heart crushing story that I’ve ever read . This is Double D and Lucy’s story who was Ever’s stepmother and father . To see it from their perspective made me think completely differently of them . My heart was ripped out , chewed up , and spit out by this story . I think any story that makes you feel to that extent deserves the highest rating . Also don’t believe the reviews that say Double D cheated because he did not !!!!!
I just couldn't. Imma stop reading MC books. They are getting more ridiculous by the author. The Jax Teller, SOA days are over!! I have to give it 2 stars cause I am too ashamed of myself for reading 60% of this mess!!
if i could give this book 10 stars i would because it is EPIC!!! the best book of 2019. there are not enough superlatives to describe this book or do justice to it!! it really is THAT good.
firstly, if you havent read The Other Princess, you need to read it. if you read it a while ago, go back and read that first then read this because i had to stop at part two and go back and re-read The Other Princess to re-familiarise myself with the storyline in detail for it all to make more sense. it was worth it (besides the fact that the other princess is a fantastic 5 star read too).
THIS BOOK, OMG!! WHERE DO I START?
it charts the love story of luce and double d and is just astonishing in its depth. this takes them from aged 16 and 19 (lucy and DD) to 48 and 51. this is a love story with a difference in that its almost an alt hea and plots their life together over 30 years, yeah they get their hea but at a heavy price and with a journey of strife and struggle.
its incredible, the story, the characters, the plot and writing style is just exceptional. you WILL cry lots of times, i ended up finishing this on the beach, trying hard not to show those around me that i had tears running down my face!!!
this book continues where other books finish, you know when they finally get together and all is well and madly in love? this one goes through life and shows us what we all know to be true, that life is difficult and throws many curve balls at us that challenge us, our relationships bonds and our loved ones. its so real life in that respect.
they finish reaching the ripe old age of 48 and 51 (51 is my age) and i can tell you that this age, it just gets better it really does. I'm really hoping christine M will explore that in a later book and do justice to those of us in this age group, because we have great lives, we have fab sex lives and we are living it to the fullest and not giving a shit like with did in our 20s and 30s. so much potential to take this story further and not just write about young things!
all in all this book is worth every single penny and more, this series is one of my favs and i cant wait to read the next one this author who is just staggering in her creative writing ability. it really doesnt get much better than this!!!
✨ 4.5 Stars! —I don't typically read books where it's about characters we already know are together, or a book where the story has a chunk of recounting what you've already read in previous books. However, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the real Double-D and Lucy. I enjoyed reading their beginning, their struggles, their heartbreak and of course their HEA.
—Their HEA is one that was definitely fought for! And because of their undying and unconditional love for one another, I couldn't put it down.
—Christine Michelle has a way with words that draw you into these characters lives, and makes you feel everything they're feeling. You break when they do, heal when they do, and celebrate when they do. I couldn't get enough of DD & Luce, and their fight for happiness.
*Why I dropped it to 4.5 stars? There are a lot of times in the book where I thought I was reading a characters thoughts, when actual fact they were speaking aloud. There's also quite a bit of grammar issues. I would say there is need for another thorough edit, even if it didn't hinder my reading experience, it just got a little annoying at the crucial moments. But I did want to put it out there incase others have a major issue with those things.
A story of life. How a betrayal, jealousy in the mc club, can devastate a forever love. how a father wants to protect his daughter from being involved with someone in the MC. Lucy running from what she thought was the worst betrayal she saw. But things are not always as its seems. A story with twists, surprise, a devastating shocker that can destroy Lucy and DD/CJ for the rest of their lives. What a rollercoaster of emotions. I cried along with Lucy, felt the anguish and despair in DD/CJ. Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson live the story. They ARE the characters. I could feel all the hate, jealousy, love despair in each person. 🎧audiobookobsessionreview🎧
Grab your tissues you will need them. I knew before I started this book was going to make me ugly cry just like The Other Princess. l. WASN'T READY. I went through every emotion while reading Double D and Lucy's story. It Isn't everyday you get a story like theirs that literally took years for their love to begin or continue. The ups the downs, the good and the bad, and the worst that can ever happen to a parent. I still have tear swollen eyes as I write this. I feel invested with this family to the point I feel I lost a loved one along with them. The story is so well written and so indepth with their lives as well as their kids. I didn't want the story to ever end. I seriously am In LOVE with this series.
5 full shinny stars and more. This book deserves much more 10 stars, 100 stars... EPIC
I'm fighting my emotions right now.
This book was so different from The Other Princess and I didn't expected this, I thought it will continue the story with the young characters but it's DD and Lucy's love story from the age of 16-19 to 48-51 (uff, a lifetime really and not enough). It settles lots of aspects from the first one, we understand why DD acted the way he did regarded his daughter, it somehow excuses his behavior (in the first one I thought he was just an excuse of a father) and the struggle of their family over the years. It made me laugh and cry (oh, so much crying), it's really raw (especially the last 3rd of the book) and it shatters your heart and then puts it back together.
Excellent read. It lost a star due to the over used trope of the FMC always running because instead of being a mature woman who questions the MMC she believes the lies told to her by people who have a motive to break them up or what she allegedly sees of a set up to make her believe lies. I would have much rather seen her pull the skank slut whore off of D and pummel her than run away like a coward.
I have been eagerly awaiting this next instalment after that cliffhanger and it didn’t disappoint. Was great to following the story of Double-D and Lucy. Was sad at times especially hearing Double D’s POV how he dealt with Ever. I highly recommend, must read the other princess before this book
This is one couple that loved so very hard and tried their hardest to not let anything get in their way. I can’t believe I didn’t write a review my first read through of this book.. absolutely love all the characters and Christine’s style of writing.. I. Ant wait to read more of this series.......
When a book draws you in, to the point you want to punch something, you know it's good. I wanted to punch double d in Ever's book, and I wanted to punch him in this one. I really wish we could see pictures of her tattoos. Anyone an artist? 🤷♀️
OMG.................................... I was pulled into this book right from the beginning, staying there until I had read every single word that was written. I also got my mini movie playing along in my head. Twists, turns and surprises occur through out this book. Some of the surprises you may see coming, while other you won't. Some of the surprises are large, while others are small. Some may pull on your heart strings, some may even hit you square in the face. But each and every surprise holds equal importance within making this book the awesome read that it is. Each and every single emotion that the characters can be felt and then some. I went through the emotions with each of characters, but in all honesty I probably got more frustrated than the characters as there was a time or two I wanted to slap a few of the characters, but in the end they redeemed themselves. Christine Michelle is a new author to me, although she has been recommended to me by a few of my friends that read. I am so pleased that I took the plunge and read this book. I highly recommend Christine Michelle as an author and I highly recommend this book, if you are a fan of MC books and haven't read this book, I personally don't think you will regret it. I have just found this book on Audible, I will be getting it. I have just got this book on Audible and I have to admit I enjoyed it just as much as I did when I read it. This book is in my go to file.
This is an epic story with all of the feelings one has to endure in life. We do get the insta love in the initial meet cute. We also have the rules stopping a couple from being together. The intrigue of her heritage and the drama of the MC. The beginning was good, the separation was angsty, the reunion satisfying and that was just their first 5 or so years. BUT then the time in their lives when Ever comes along and I need tissues all over again. I start hating on CJ or Double D because he sucked like no father ever could. It’s a shame we didn’t get a repeat of the Deck BBQ at the club when Ever throws shade at everyone. I think I would have wanted CJ’s reaction in his words.
Then we move on past that and we get small insights into his regrets, but before too long we get the answer to the end of Book one and it’s very sad. This causes another separation between these two. Enter Anna and her drama so the couple can reunite. However, I still don’t like Anna much. Every time Ever and Deck are around I want to hear more from them. By the end we know the family has grown but I’ve lost the plot on the timeline by then.
I just don’t know if I have it in me to read Anna’s story.🙃
A Love So Hard is the second book in the Aces High MC Charleston Series. This is Cj and Lucy story from beginning to end. Lucy aka Momma-Luce is a character I appreciate, she went hell and back but always followed her heart. This character will tell it how it is, she makes mistakes but owes them. This story is very emotional and you will need tissues to get through it. This story will start at the beginning of Lucy and D's story and end years after The Other Princess. I loved how Christine gives us Lucy and CJ's POV on everything that happened to Ever. Christine will give us clues as to what will happen in the books between A Love so Hard and Everlasting. This is the second time reading this book and series. The last book was released recently so I wanted to go back and re read the entire series back to back without breaks. This story is even better than the first time I read it. I suggest if you haven't read The Other Princess or A Love so Hard..I suggest getting a copy of The Other Princess book one of this series and get swept away in a world filled with family, love, sexy AF alphas and strong female characters. Happy Reading!!
I have been searching for a good read without too much success until this one. I wasn’t certain about it but it did not take but a couple of pages before I knew I was going to be glued until the end of this story. It exceeded my every high expectation. It begins by a biker meeting a young woman and simply knowing she is probably it for him. And life happens.
There is a lot of emotion, trials, heartache from her family, misunderstandings, mistreatment from a friend, MC brother betrayal, rape, separation, secrets unfolding, love reunited, blessings granted, family adjustments to make up for past hurts. Once family things seem better, then comes soul hurting loss. It takes awhile but adjustments and atonements are made, equilibrium restored as much as possible and love conquers all. There is a deep binding love between the biker and his lady.
I laughed and I cried huge sloppy tears. This ends beautifully and so I am left loving having known these characters and having read this book. Highly recommend. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. Outstanding story. Thank you.
I wasn’t even going to read this one after reading The Other Princess. But then I decided I needed to figure out the epilogue of that one which meant reading this one and not skipping to the third in the series. And I AM SO GLAD I DID!!! I cried almost as much as I did during The Other Princess but for different reasons. I honestly couldn’t figure out why the series started with Ever and then the second book was a flash back of her Dad’s story. It just did not sound like a good time for me. But having read it, I will never doubt the mind of this author again. Even with her note about how she changed the ending at the last minute, it is still gut wrenching and beautiful in a way that is real. Happily Ever After isn’t always pretty or delicate. And it isn’t always happy. This book, while about a fictitious bike club, is real. It addresses real married life issues. I can’t say more than that without spoilers but it was real. I have to say I wouldn’t normally like a book like this so it was a shocker that I love it so much. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.
This is the second book of the Aces High MC - Charleston Series. You have to listen to this Series in order. Double-D (CJ) and Lucy's story is emotional and beautiful. There's a lot going on in this story: drama, jealousy, family issues, motorcycle club issues, misunderstandings, lies, secrets, and heartbreaking scenes. We follow Lucy and CJ in their emotional lifetime journey in the MC club, as a couple, and after that as parents of Tobby, Ever, and Anna. They share a strong and undeniable chemistry. Their love story is solid, and forever. Lucy is a wonderful strong woman. CJ is handsome, caring and protective. I am glad the author given us their full story. In fact, I found it interesting to have their story, after Ever's story. Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson did an amazing job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, The Princess and the Prospect, Anna's story.
Their story was just so heartbreaking but through it all there was so much love. I started this series with the last two books a few months ago....merc and lily's story. Wish I started from the first book. It would have added so much to the story. I cried so many times reading this book. There was so much tragedy and turmoil for two being who absolutely belonged together. I thought the characters were so well written and I was able to understand Double D's feelings/actions so much better after reading book 2. It doesn't excuse what he did in the first book but it was interesting to see what was going through his head. What happened with Toby was hard to ready especially how Lucy was dealing with it. I absolutely love this series. It is one that will definitely stay with you!
The first book hits really hard and had me in tears but you need to read more just to find out why things ended up like this. The story of the father tells his story and reasonings. His story starts with love but everything unravels and he faces dishonesty, hate and resentment. His loyalty remains but ever life has its angst. Finally he thinks he’s got his life together to be faced with another trial but this is a trial of a lifetime and he must face the man he was and the man he has become, his lack of loyalty, understanding, hate and turning a blind eye to make things easier. There are triggers so be aware. Wonderful read and like the first book an emotional rollercoaster with characters that have many flaws but at the heart want what everyone wants a happy, loving family that they have to work out how to overcome obstacles of their own making.
Omgoodness y'all, it's about to get real emotional and ugly in here. I had a hunch this book was gonna make me sob uncontrollably, just like The Other Princess did. I went through the entire emotional spectrum while reading Double D and Lucy's story. I mean, who gets a love story that takes years to develop? The highs, the lows, the good, the bad, and the absolute worst that can happen to a parent. I've still got tear-swollen eyes as I write this. I'm so invested in this family that I feel like I lost a loved one right along with them. The story is ridiculously well-written and in-depth, covering their lives and their kids' lives. I never wanted it to end. I'm seriously head over heels in love with this series. Definitely 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ worthy!!
I thought the first book was full of emotions, this second book blew it out of the water!! I ran through every emotion possible reading this story; laughing, anger, sadness, happiness, love, it had it all! This was Lucy and Double D's story so it does go far back to when they meet, to parts of the first book, and then past that. But this story was spectacularly written that you get hints of the future but no details of it, but also you don't feel like you didn't get their whole story or a happily ever after, because you so do. I am so glad I finally picked up these books to read, and you will be too.
