There are only two things I have to point out as negative about this books:

1 - It's absurdly difficult to get. Even at EuroDisney. I got lucky a shipment of a few units arrived while I was there but the thing sells out really quickly. Disney should have long ago increased production on these.

2 - It's too short! The book could easily be twice or thrice the size.

Other than that, if you love Phantom Manor and manage to find a copy (don't buy them on eBay, these aren't limited editions. Don't feed the scalpers), get it. It's a beautiful book.

Three years. After three years waiting for its return on the french online store, a friend visiting the park helped me to finally get the Phantom Manor book. An attraction I'd never have tried if my companion didnt't promised me I'd love it... He was right. If it doesn't dethrones Pirates of the Carribean in my heart, it's now one of ma favorites. So it seems natural to want discovering its origins through gorgeous visuals.

And indeed, we're explained how the attraction was born (there's even some pics of the constructing), but also a lot of details about its scenario and all the care they were placed inside, while, in person and in the middle of the ride, we wouldn't notice them. The book talks a lot about the 2018 refurbishment, and a little about the other versions in the world. However, it's only surface knowledge : if (like me, let's be honest) you wanted explanations of how some of the special effects (the ghostly ball, to say it) works, too bad, the secrets are well keeped. So, mystery, and magic, remains.

Visually, the book is absolutely marvelous, with photos of the attraction, old documents, making-of, concept arts. The item itself is beautiful and any collector will love it.

9/10, rounded down to four stars (a few little secrets would've been great).

I love Phantom Manor, so I am not surprised I loved this! The story and set design are incredible. It's so immersive, and I loved reading this book to find out how they make it so immersive! It's insane how you can still discover new things about a ride even if you've been on it many times. Now that's the Disney difference! I also LOVED how this book showcased all the stunning concept art for Phantom Manor!! Almost just as good as the ride itself 👻

Een geweldig boek. In een keer uitgelezen. Het was eigenlijk net te kort. Ik smacht naar meer informatie. Verder heel mooi weer gegeven en erg leuk geschreven. Zeker een aanrader als je een pretpark fan bent!

I really love this ride, and this book was a great way to experience some of it at home again.

The drawings and letters are fascinating to look/read at. Would definitely recommend this to Disneyland Paris fans, or if you're a fan of the ride.

Alors là, tout est parfait. Les explications, les anecdotes, les photos. J'ai adoré le fait que les textes soient écrit en français et en anglais. Pour les fans de cette attraction, c'est vraiment un excellent livre à avoir dans sa collection. ✨️

This book could have been a lot longer. They could have gone more into detail or explain how the Phantom Manor attraction and its story fits into the bigger story of Frontierland. Nevertheless, a great book of excellent quality about my favourite attraction.

It's lovely that a book celebrating this beautiful attraction exists, and I appreciate that so much effort was put into producing it to such a high standard.

At the same time, it's very much a 'beginners guide', and there is little information provided that could not already be found on fan websites or in other books. It is also a shame that the original story of Phantom Manor is not referenced, particularly with its beautiful, hand-painted stretching portraits and vestibule artwork which are so fondly remembered by fans. The book is written as if the original story never existed.

This is a great book to have as merchandise, but it does feel like it's been through the corporate strainer, and it would have been more informative if it delved deeper.

What a lovely book. Its design is absolutely beautiful and it is full of fun facts about the attraction. I feel like I got a much better understanding of the story they tell in and around the Phantom Manor. I can't wait to go back to Disneyland Paris and see the attraction with new eyes. A must for every Disney fan!

Très très bon livre ! Même si j'aurais aimé un peu plus de détails sur des petits secrets cachés, il est excellent pour apprendre pleins de choses sur l'attraction !

The content is very nice, but some of the English translations read like Google-translated sentences. Could have used a proofreader.

This book was hard to get hold of! I’d hoped to buy a copy when we were in Disney Paris a good few years ago now, but alas, it wasn’t to be. Lucky for me, not long after we returned, it did go on sale on the Disney Store website, and I managed to get a copy. It’s been sitting on my shelf since, and I finally decided to sit down and give it a read.

As I know many of our readers are based in the USA, it’s worth mentioning Phantom Manor is the Disney Paris version of Haunted Mansion. However, it’s very much more geared towards the European market, with a bit of a darker storyline in its halls but with features you’ll find familiar if you’ve ridden Haunted Mansion. I love Phantom Manor. Where Haunted Mansion has a cleaner, ‘well maintained’ looking exterior, Phantom Manor looms over Frontierland, a dilapidated old building with signs warning visitors to stay away until the strange goings-on inside can be investigated.

The manor was once home to the Ravenswood family, after Henry Ravenswood struck gold in Big Thunder Mountain and built the Big Thunder Mining Company, which drew others to the area and so Thunder Mesa (Frontierland) was born. Henry and wife Martha had a daughter, Melanie, who grew into a beautiful young woman. After four of her suitors died in strange circumstances, Melanie met Jake. As the pair made plans to wed, an earthquake struck the town, killing both Henry and Martha. Melanie prepared to marry, but her groom never showed, and instead a strange curse seemed to fall over the mansion, as Melanie walked the halls, waiting for a groom who would never arrive.

This is the story of an overbearing father who could never let his little girl go, and it’s reflected in every inch of the ride from the moment you enter the grounds. I admit, I was hoping for a bit more of the story and maybe some ride easter eggs in the book, but the focus is more on the creation, refurbishment, and various things you can see throughout the ride. It’s interesting enough if you’re a fan of the ride, and worth having on your shelf, but it’s also suitable for more casual Disney Park fans. It’s laid out really beautifully, especially with the bilingual text side-by-side (written in both French and English). It also has some great photos from the ride, and was really enjoyable to go through quite slowly.

It does highlight some of the humour found in the grisly story, and it’s always felt like a welcome addition to my more ‘showy’ books. It was definitely fun reading it, but don’t expect a whole load of new information in the pages. Instead, sit back, follow the Ghost Host, and simply enjoy the ride.
