Kate Stone has always lived for romance. From the time she was very small, waiting for her Prince Charming to come and take her away, she has looked for the healing, redeeming power of love.

She drinks far too much coffee and loves sparkly things. She's convinced she survived breast cancer because she was unwilling to let tiny little cells tell her when to die. The chemo may have helped, too.

She lives in New England with her long-suffering husband and their four children. She spends her days as a graduate student and her weekends writing.

Lilly is making a new start in a new town when she meets Wade, there is just something about him that she can’t resist and when she hears the rumours about him and his MC she isn’t sure what to believe should she Chance not only her heart but her career too on Wade?

Wade is part of the Watchdog MC and has been all his life and it’s something he has no intention of ever changing but then he meets Lilly she’s a breath of fresh air in his life and he secretly wants to hold on to her and build something but when her neighbour is a cop and determined to bring him and his family down at every turn can he involve Lilly in his life and her not get hurt and will she even hear him out when she learns his secret?

Drama filled shortie but the story is great but not entirely safe mentions physical abuse. Recommended read. 4🌟

The storyline was really good and kept me interested until the very end. Wade and Lilly make a great couple and I loved how their relationship developed. There is plenty of action, romance and steam. Would have liked more story it ended before I wanted it too. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a very enjoyable book. Very fast paced with lots of heat. The Watchdogs MC (Great name!!) take their responsibility to their community seriously. In Wade's world, the MC helps those that the police can't - namely women and children. Lilly is new in town, just graduated from college, with her first job working for CPS. She and Wade fit into each other's lives perfectly. Too bad she lives next to a cop who is out to get the Watchdogs anyway he can, and who feels the badge entitles him to do whatever he wants! Throw in some action, some danger, and some steamy scenes, and you have a great read! Can't wait to see what happens next with this series!

Lilly (h) has just moved to a rural small town, making her new start after finishing grad school. She meets Wade (H) at the local farmer's market, and sparks start flying. He's a member of the Watchdogs, a local MC, and rumors surround him and his club. To make matters worse, her new neighbor is a cop. Will Lilly follow her heart or her head as she settles into her new town? Where does the truth of the two men really lie?

Really enjoyed this one. A solid short story read. It's fast paced, but it's only a short story, after all - gotta squeeze everything into only 80ish pages. Despite the fast pace, it's not ridiculously OTT or overly dramatic. A lot of Lilly's internal conflict is from balancing a government job and a cop neighbor, with her attraction and connection to a man in a drug-running, vigilante MC. It's the sort of thing that an actual person would/should wonder should they ever find themselves in her shoes - she's gone to grad school for this job, she's passionate about it, and Wade's connections would at the least make her job difficult. At the worst, she could actually lose her job. A sensible person would indeed question things, considering it's for a man that she's only known a few days.

I liked the leads. Like I said, I appreciated that Lilly has a good head on her shoulders. Wade was strong and protective and flirty, but not an oversexed alphahole. It was a nice change, especially in an MC romance. And they had a sweet yet steamy connection. I really enjoyed them.

So why not 5 stars? There are a fair number of typos and incorrect word choices (shuttered/shuddered, that sort of thing) - a good editor/proofreader was needed. And while the short story length means that it's a fast, easy read, it also means that the pacing on the story is on the rushed end of things. A few more pages to slow things down just a touch would have been good. Besides, I enjoyed the leads and would have enjoyed more time with them.

Alternating 1st person POV. No love triangle nonsense, no cheating (by the leads), and no OW/OM drama. Refreshingly for an MC romance, no 'club whores' (or whatever term a particular author uses), and while Wade is a flirt, he's not really shown as a manwhore. Both of the leads are actually pretty reasonable characters, and I enjoyed their relationship. HEA and no cliffhangers.

Would I read more? Definitely. I'm curious who's going to be featured in Book 2.

This is the first book I have read by Kate Stone and I will definitely be reading more from her. Protector is the first book in the Watchdogs MC series and it was a great introduction to the characters. Even though it was short, it left me wanting more. In this intro, we meet Lily and Wade and some of the other members of the Watchdogs. Lily has moved to small town America and meets Wade at the local farmers market. They hit it off and begin seeing one another. But Lily’s neighbor, a corrupt police officer, warns Lily about Wade. To calm her fears, Wade tells her about the Watchdogs. They are not your typical MC, but I won’t spoil it. Things happen to make Lily doubt Wade and they will have a few obstacles to go through to get their HEA. I received an authors copy and I have left an honest review.

Lilly has moved to a small town hoping to have a slower relaxed life, to get to know the town and the people. Lilly is a social worker working for the county. Her first day she meets Wade who owns a landscape business. They chat and Lilly has Wade come over and look over her yard. They decide on a few things they can do and Wade agrees to meet her the next day. Wade is smitten with Lily. He wants to protect her. They have some issues to work out. Wade is in a motorcycle club and Lilly has some concerns. Throw in an abusive next door neighbor who is a corrupt policeman and you have family drama, next door neighbor abuse and domestic abuse. It is a great story with exciting characters who are passionate, feisty, sexy and stand up for what they believe in. Enjoy!

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the first book in a new series. In this book, Lilly moves to a small town to work as a social worker and she meets Wade, the owner of a landscaping company he owns with his brother. Wade is very interested in Lilly, but her neighbor, a cop, warns her that Wade is trouble. Wade asks her to spend the day with him and give him a chance to prove he is a good guy. Wade is part of a MC who protects people the police can't and he is also involved in selling weed. Lilly likes Wade, even if she is unsure if she should be involved with him. I really liked this book, it was fast paced and i found the characters had great chemistry. I liked Wade, he really was a good guy and he looked out for everyone. Great start to a new series.

Protector + Watchdog = Romance and Passion

Protector is the first book in the Watchdogs MC series by Kate Stone. This is the story of Lilly and Wade.
Lilly has just moved to town after graduating college and getting her first job with Child Protection Services. Wade is a member of the Watchdogs MC and is a bad boy hero in his own right, as are the MC. When Wade first sees Lilly he is floored by her. He wants Lilly but not for just one night as he knows she is the one for him, after all they are both protectors. Lilly sees the sexy but a but scruffy biker bad boy and is not too sure she wants to get involved. But they do have a rapport that is wonderful so she finally agrees to a date. From there the story takes off and is a fun, witty and entertaining short story.

I knew this was going to be a quick read. I check those things before buying. I don't gush about those books typically but everyone needs a book to fill a gap of time ie. sitting in the exam room of the doctor's office or whatever. I read this one cover to cover in 25 minutes!! It takes longer for Rose Nylund to get a story off the ground! (You're more than welcome for the totally gratuitous GG reference.)

Neither character jumped off the page. There was no story in the...uh...story. Boy meets girl, flirting happens, boy rescues girl and The End. What???

We didn't learn anything about the backstory of either character. We didn't learn anything more than the most superficial crap about the present. We didn't get any real drama. It wasn't even hot.

Two stars is charitable. Seriously.

From the time I picked it up, this story kept my attention for both the romance building between Lily and Wade, and the action packed plot with the Watchdogs MC ad their contributions to the community.

What I liked about the romance was that there was no game playing. Wade was straight forward about his interest from the start and Lily didn’t play hard to get because she liked him right away.

This was a short story, but it was packed full of action that was well developed and when I finished, I was quite impressed with how much was covered in a short period of time.

New to town, who do you trust to protect you? Big Biker with tattoos or the Police.

Wade is no angel, but he will have your back when you think you have no one else. Lilly not knowing the history of the town learns quickly who to trust and who to stay away.

Lilly is young but her heart is in the right place. She had to stop and think but she was able to see the truth.

This is surprise story that will have you on the edge of you seat with each turn of the page.

This well-written book 1 in the Watchdogs MC Series is a wonderful MC story and a good start to a new series. The characters are believably well-crafted and they react in a realistic fashion. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Protector is the first of Kate Stone's Watchdogs MC series. If you love bad boys who still do the right thing, strong women who can (mostly) take care of themselves, and steaming hot romance, you'll love this novella.

The author has given us characters we can connect with. When Lilly moves to a small town and meets Wade, her life will never be the same. They each wish to protect the abused, they just do it from different angles.

Enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book. Finished it in between my day responsibilities in 1 day. I’m a sucker for happy endings and ironically understood how police can be opposite of what we hope for them to stand for and how CPS operate. So even though happy endings are not always possible this story gave a nice happy ending to a sucky situation.

I really liked this storyline and I thought it was sweet that Lilly found Wade on her first trip into town. What ended up happening to Tyler? Did he lose his job, get charged with spousal abuse and assault? And what about Kylie, did she end up ok? And the house call she made with Debbie regarding the crying children? Important questions left unanswered.

Wade is a biker with a heart of gold. He was such a sweetheart. I loved the interactions between him and Lilly. It was a quick read. Romance and action. It was more on the tamer side of MC books but it was a great read

Watchdog

This series started off great and then went to the end very fast . Could have been filled out more with information and more details for a better read. But will try book 2 to see how the series progress.

Not an MC

When an author spends more money on the cover than time on a story, you get this. A rushed wannabe story, a sadly lacking try of a story. A tale that tries to paint it self as a MC Romance but ends up being a very poor try at a copy.

Short, but Sweet

This book was short, but it still has all that you need in a good book. The characters were good and so was the plot. Some really good twists and turns plus action and romance.

Not bad

This story was not to bad. It goes to show that not everything is as it seems. It also shows that some guys, like Tyler are just losers from the get go. I am glad that Lilly gave Wade a chance and found out he really is a good guy.

Best book ever

I think this is probably the best book I have read in a long time. Except for the violence. But I do know that you had to put that in. I've read over 200 books this year, and I think this one is the best. I see you!
