Verity knew something was wrong the moment she heard them land. It got worse when the door to her room burst open, and they took her hostage.
Knox is on a mission to colonize Earth. What he doesn't expect to find is one human girl willing to fight him to save her planet.
Discover a new universe of problems when the aliens land Zara Hoffman's debut SciFi novel, Obscure Origin, book 1 of the Stellar Blood trilogy.
Please be aware that this book involves kidnapping and sexual attraction between the prisoner and captor. If this is triggering for you, please take care of your mental health and skip this book.

An amazing read. Verity is a strong female character who finds herself taken....by aliens. While the aliens intentions may seem malevolent things are not completely as they appear. It's great to have Knox's 👽👑 side of the the story to help round everything out. Add in a fair amount of spice and you have a book that I could not put down.
I'll start off by saying that I don't normally read sci-fi (and the sci-fi I do read tends to be more dystopian than space/alien related), but I've read other works by this author and captive/captor is one of my guilty pleasures. That being said I was not disappointed. I'm curious to see where the rest of the trilogy brings Verity and Knox and I wish the storyline could've been a bit longer (though I'm not sure how given the setting without being repetitive). I'm definitely recommending this trilogy to all of my sci-fi loving friends.
I didn't know what to expect when I started this book but I was very happy with it once I started reading. I don't want to give too much away but the story starts out with a kidnapping of a select group of people on Earth by aliens. The humans are taken to the aliens ship and separated into different cells. The aliens in the story are very similar in appearance to humans which will be explored later in the book. One of the people taken is Verity, the General of the USAF daughter and she puts up a major fight before being captured. She stands out amongst the captives which is both good and bad, depending on the people she is around. Her best friend Ben, also a flyboy, is captured. They seem to be the top candidates wanted by the alien king, Knox. They are interrogated on several occasions to reveal secret information about Earth. Together they devise a plan to escape from the alien ship. I really enjoyed reading the book and at the end of the book there is a setup for the next book, which I hope to read. The story starts slow but then gets really intense near the end. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys alien genre stories.
This story has plenty of folds and layers to keep you turning the page after each chapter. The last seven chapters kept me up way past my bedtime so that I could finish it.
The author was able to balance the reader knowing more than the dual-POV characters without making us lose faith in the competence of our POV characters.
If you enjoy sci-fi that has more complex connections than the "us against them" approach that some stories have with aliens, then you will enjoy this book.
One of our POV characters, Verity, is witty and sarcastic while she isn't afraid to stand up for herself and her friends. Our other POV character, Knox is strong-willed while trying to navigate uncharted territory for his people and himself. Their clash of wits is refreshing and enthralling to read. You could cut the tension with a knife (there was my one cliche, I promise).
This is an enjoyable book and one I was happy to have found. The romance is well written and the addition of Arfilmea adds a nice amount of tension, while not being the stereotypical love triangle. Knox being pulled between romance and responsibility adds some nice balance and tension to the story.
I enjoyed the alien species and found their culture, food, and technology a good balance between the familiar and the unexpected. The main character was interesting and self resilient. I would have liked to have seen more of her interacting with other people though.
Overall if you enjoy urban or science fiction romance this is a fun read and worth trying, and you get to support a self published author who I think we will be seeing a lot more of in the future.
Part one of Stellar Blood trilogy. Captor-to-lovers, slow burn. 17+ for violence, sex and other adult situations. Knox's people are looking for a new home and improve their genetic stability. Earth looks like an exelent place to do just that. Too bad the native inhabitants are fearfully hostile. Throughout this three-part series Knox tries to convince both factions within his own people and those of Earth peaceful co-existance is possible. They come in peace but are prepared for war. How many lives will be lost before reason is found? Continued in part two and three.
A pretty good premise with interesting, human characters on both sides. Political power struggles within both groups and the concept of human nature, both positive and negative aspects are not just an Earthling thing. Can the E. and those of Earth find the emotional maturity to focus on how to be allies instead of combattents? These concepts are explored along with pride, ego, fearful aggression, the need for communication to build trust, then love, and the need to belong. I look forward to the rest of the story and am hopeful for an HEA.
Not sure if the reviewer copy I received from Story Origin was a final release edit version or not. This reader's red pen can never just lie there, as is the case with any published pice. They were shared with the author to improve future editions.
I went into this book with high expectations and have to say that they were all blown out of the water. This is the first book I've read, which deals with both aliens and a reasonable modern Earth at the same time. It's set in present-day Earth, and, honestly, the setting is perfect for this story. What I found really shone through the book is the pacing. It's a quick read, going from one chapter to the next easily, even though each chapter is from a different character's POV (switching between MCs).
I don't want to get into the story's details as I have a hard time not spoiling it. That being said, I can't wait to see how the characters develop in the second part of the series. There are still so many unasked questions that I can't wait to dive into with the second book. The characters have grown on me, even ones who I didn't think I would like.
Holy wow was this good! I never thought that I would like a prisoner/captive romance, but it was well done. It wasn't like they were captives for two chapters and the next thing you know their married and off having children, it was a real fight for Verity and Knox to understand each other and come to terms that they perhaps did have feelings for each other. The alien dynamic was really cool, their home planet was destroyed/no longer habitable so they kidnapped humans and tested on them. There is some strange concoction in the works with a serum/drug to make them change, which I hope gets explored more in the next coming books. I will be having a review in the coming week or so for Bitter Blood, for which I graciously received an ARC.
Overall, this was a pretty fun read, but I didn’t feel like there was much connection between the love interests and that was a big part of the book. I still did enjoy it, and I’m excited for the next book to come out. I’m a very character driven person and I think this book was more plot driven so if you like plots over characters this read is for you!
