Deadly Inferno: Battle of the Wilderness
'The Wilderness' encompassed a 70-square-mile expanse of virtually impenetrable woodland in central Virginia, so dense it made conventional warfare impossible. The first battle of Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant's 1864 Overland Campaign against the Army of Northern Virginia, the Wilderness witnessed some of the fiercest fighting of the Civil War. Though outnumbered, General Lee's forces posed stiff resistance to Grant's offensive. At the end of the three day battle, the outcome was uncertain, and the fight ended in a draw. Brilliantly illustrating one of the American Civil War's most tactically challenging battles, this comic strip narrative brings to life a completely new type of warfare; the likes of which had never been fought before on American soil.

Tiny comic book overview of the battle. Grant chases Lee so he loses 17k men to Lee's 11k. But since his army is bigger and better supplied he keeps attacking. It's giant loses yet the tactic Lincoln and Grant want.
This is a battle right as the Union army cross the river and are vulnerable. Lee attacks them. Forests start to burn. Men flee, Grant's army is defeated on both flanks. He should be fleeing back yet presses onwards.
I'm shocked at how many battles Lee won. But as a defensive army he has a huge advantage. He lost the battles in the north like Gettysburg. But often it's just silly mistakes by either side and either being too frantic or too careful. I actually feel clueless about the war as it's soooo many battles and I keep forgetting most of them. And all battles are the same. With no planes nor tanks it's just the same stuff happening.
