Count to 10 and back again with Latin Grammy Award-winning children's musical duo 123 Andrés in this bilingual board book! The popular song from 123 Andrés' Latin Grammy Award-winning album is cleverly and beautifully brought to life in this bright, bouncy board book! Each of the 10 birds is given a fun and silly personality, and children will love to follow along as each flies away -- and escapes a lurking kitty! 123 Andrés are gifted lyricists and storytellers, and this bilingual board book perfectly captures their energy and charm. Pura Belpré Illustration Honor recipient Sara Palacios's gorgeous illustrations elevate the text and make this book a must-have for any home or school library!
A sing-song book, in both English and Spanish - we had a good time learning new words, and by the end of the session, all could count to ten en español!
TEN LITTLE BIRDS is a simple, bilingual counting book. Ten little birds are sitting on a wire, until 2 fly off. Then, 8 little birds are sitting on the wire, until 2 more fly off, and so on. The colorful illustrations, cute girl, and lurking cat add to the fun of the story. The book is written in both Spanish and English on each page spread.
What I loved: This is a simple counting book that will work well for infants and toddlers. While it does not go one-by-one, there is some early math here in the subtracting by twos. Toddlers who are beginning to count will enjoy answering the questions of how many birds are left by counting them. The simple text and bright colors make this a cute and fun board book read. In addition, the later page with the 10 returning birds is great, as it also numbers the birds to allow for number recognition while counting.
What left me wanting more: As a small point, this book is a tough one to place in terms of age. While the bright images will appeal to older infants and young toddlers, the math here is a bit more complex and would work better for preschoolers or young elementary school aged readers who may find the book too simple to really get into. I would have preferred counting by one and/or some diversity in the text to make it a bit more interesting.
Final verdict: A simple counting board book, TEN LITTLE BIRDS is a bilingual story to teach early math.
Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.
A very simple and straight-forward counting and subtraction book. It's probably better with the song, but without it, it's just... fine. The language is simple enough that the bilingual aspect is accessible for young readers in either language!

Like the other book by 123 Andrés, cute and colorful, fun as a song, weak as a read in English. This would also be a fun storytime pick. 15 month old loved the video and has associated that with the book now so that's a win. Summer reading pick from library. Good choice if you play the song.
