It's Opposite day at Dinopotamus' School. The other kids get easy puzzles, like FILL the glass and OPEN the door. The teacher asks Dinopotamus to bring her the big box . What will he do? Dinopotamus is not a typical student. Opposite day means you get to break rules and disobey instructions. But only if you get it right. Or maybe you need to get it wrong. Not your typical opposites book. Join Dinopotamus as he thinks through the problem.
Dinopotamus is tasked with bringing the big box of things to do. When they are tasked with doing the opposite of what they are told it will take a lot of thinking to perform the tasks at hand.
This was an entertaining story that I think children will interact well with. Great fun to be had reading Dinopotamus handle each challenge. Kids will love.
3.5 stars An interesting concept to teaching children opposite words. Aimed for children ages 4-8 the colourful illustrations make it easier for them to understand and pick up. Opposite Day for Dinopotamus is interactive and interesting making learning fun for kids. Read along as Dinopotamus and children have fun with Opposite’s Day and learn as they go each in their own way. Whilst my four year old grandson had some trouble determining opposite’s my seven year old grandson was getting the hang of it by the story ended. As always Lois’s books are good for anyone to enjoy from family, schools and libraries just to name a few.
This book takes the traditional concept of opposite day and turns it on its head, literally. The story follows Dinopotamus, a curious and clever student who is excited to celebrate Opposite Day at his school.
The author, Lois Wickstrom, masterfully crafts a narrative that encourages readers to think creatively and consider the consequences of their actions. On Opposite Day, the rules are reversed, and kids get to "break" rules and disobey instructions – but only if they get it right.
The story is engaging and easy to follow, with simple language and colorful illustrations that will appeal to young readers. The protagonist, Dinopotamus, is relatable and likable, making it easy for readers to imagine themselves in his shoes.
Another great read by a favorite author! My favorite thing about this book (ok, so there are 2 things) is that there is a person in a wheelchair featured. It's rare that this is seen in a children's book but so very important as it opens up avenues for conversation. My second favorite thing about this book is the hand drawn and colored illustrations. I feel that it makes this book more authentic.
Dinopotamus is going to school again today but it's "opposite day". The teacher instructs everyone to the opposite of what she says. At first, it's a bit confusing to Dinopotamus, but then it becomes more enjoyable.
Opposite Day for Dinopotamus is a fun children's book with unique illustrations. It likely follows the book Dinopotamus Goes to School, but they are unique stories. Dinopotamus goes to school and the teacher declares today is Opposite Day! The teacher has some silly commands for the kids to enjoy, as well as some tricky requests to direct them toward fun learning. My son thought it was fun and silly that some of the words were written upside down, with fun fonts, and in quote bubbles from the children illustrations. The illustrations look like they were drawn in crayon, which is unique. Silly fun book for younger readers.
Just another great teaching story, with fun to be had by all. Dinopotamus and his friends are learning about opposite word meanings. Some are easy, but then some can be harder to understand. I love that this author did not use only easy examples. Leaving a thought process for the child and the characters in the story. Opening up more conversations between the reader and the students. In my opinion there is another better than a book that leaves room for more learning. After the story has finished. This is another book that belongs in every child's library. I hope you enjoy the story as much as we did.
Once again Lois Wickstrom shows her incredible talent not just in writing the story but in her fun illustrations. This series gives kids a confidence boost seeing hand drawn pictures and understanding they can do it too. Opposite day is always a fun day, but this book took it to the max or would it be the minimum? Hmmm. Every little thing was given in the opposite way, and I love how it showed that misunderstandings can happen to anyone, but Dinopotamus always has a friend to cheer him up. Easy to read for my seven-year-old and the inspiration he had on trying to say the opposite of everything he meant for the rest of the night.
Wickstrom has done it again with another cute Dinopotamus story! I absolutely adore the illustrations and how colorful yet basic they are. The way Wickstrom has introduced how opposites work is one I've never seen before and I think that a lot of the littles will relate to it. I also really like how she works problem-solving into her story with Dinopotamus and I really think the way Wickstrom has done this is how a kid would work through opposites as well. This is another great story to add to your ever-growing Wickstrom collection!
After discovering the first book of the Dinopotamus Series I just had To come back and read this one. This talented author wrote and drew this series which is amazingly awesome! As always I like the Unique character she has created. This book is great for when your Littles are learning what opposite are. There are also a lot of good rhyming words and descriptive words for learning also. I'm looking forward to reading more from Lois Wickstrom and of this series. Also we should definitely do an opposite day here. It seems like it'll be fun.
Opposite Day for Dinopotamus by Lois June Wickstrom. This is my favorite children's author so I knew I had to read this cute book to my 6 year old nephew. He loved it. Its full of cute illustrations and always a a lesson is included. When Dinopotamus gets to school he learns its opposite day and the teacher tells them they will learn to tell the difference in opposites. They are given different shapes of letters and fonts that are so fun for the kids. This is probably best for kids ages 4-8 and would make a great gift for the child in your life.
My family loves it when I bring home books by this author! We always have such a fun time and great discussions. Opposite Day is exactly what it sounds like. The teacher wants everyone to try to do the opposite of what she says. But she doesn’t make it easy for them. This was a fun read that made both of my kiddos giggle as they acted everything out along with the story. It also prompted us to try and create our own Opposite game with more difficult instructions. Pick this up and share with the little ones in your life at home, at school, or at daycare.

Opposite Day For Dinopotamus is the third book in the Dinopotamus series by Lois Wickstrom. It’s a fun children’s storybook, with cute (naïve style) illustrations that help to ‘teach’ children what ‘opposite’ means, giving many examples. Dinopotamus and all his classmates learn to do the opposite of what the teacher says. Having a bit of an adventure along the way. This is a very quick and easy read. Another cute Dinopotamus book! Beautiful artwork, and I love the story, the diversity and the lesson so much. Opposite Day is such a fun idea for the class to learn about, and Meg is so compassionate when it comes to Dino thinking the teacher was telling him he did a bad job. The children and teacher interact with Dino so nicely and include him in everything, making sure he understands as well. I would love to read more Dinopotamus stories!
This is a cute story that explores the meaning of opposite. I like this series because it shows acceptance of individuals who are different and including them in the activities that are happening. I think many children will find this story interesting and I recommend it as something to read to your child. The author has a few series available for children that are fun and interesting. I think parents should check them out if you have children that love to read.
Another cute story by this author! This time it's opposite day for Dinopotamus! He's so excited to go and be a part. In this opposite day you are allowed to break the rules instead of following them... but only if you do it right! This is a easily engaging story allowing children to explore their imagination and consequences of decisions and actions made with cute illustrations to keep the pages turning. My daughter who's 6 enjoyed this one immensely!
Dinopotamus and his classmates are learning about opposites. This is an excellent learning lesson for opposites and opening up dialogue for younger kids on what opposites are and how to figure out how to make the correct guess for the right answer. The illustrations are colorful and great for kids. Such a fun and quick read! This is a good book for kids ages 4-9. This is a good choice to read in the afternoon and play a game of opposite with little ones to get their minds to learn new things.
This is a brilliant story that teaches kids about opposites. This is something my daughter has struggled to understand a little bit, so reading this book was a fun and entertaining way to reinforce what she had already been learning. She found the book to be engaging and I could see she really connected with it. This author knows how to create stories that draw you in and provide a fun way to educate children.
