Wits' End #3

Close Encounters of the Curd Kind

Rate this book

The truth is out there…

Way out there.

Susan Witsend, owner of the best little UFO-themed B&B in the Sierras, is absolutely, positively, not going to get involved in another murder case. Not with her small-town sheriff threatening jail time if she interferes in one more investigation.

So when her neighbor is murdered, Susan exerts all her willpower to stay out of the sheriff’s business. But her neighbor’s daughter, Clare, needs Susan’s help. Clare’s been experiencing lost time, a sure sign of alien abduction. Helping Clare is only neighborly… and totally not interfering.

Right?

Worse, Clare’s not the only one with UFO issues. Weird lights in the sky, vanishing cows, and little green men are bringing the mountain town of Doyle to the edge of a panic. Can Susan unearth the truth before her town spirals into chaos?

If you like laugh-out-loud mysteries with complicated heroines (and breakfast recipes), you’ll love Close Encounters of the Curd Kind, book 3 in the Wits’ End series of cozy mystery novels. Read this twisty cozy caper today!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Close Encounters of the Curd Kind by Kirsten Weiss is a fantastic story, the mystery, paranormal, and very realistic characters.
Will Susan solve the murders and stop the town from being invaded by aliens in time?
Susan Witsend
Sue is our sleuth, alien expert, owner and operator of the Wit's End B&B. She is excellent and so realistic. I loved the way she fought off her demons while helping others with their issues. Susan and her cousin Dixie make a good team. I can't wait to read more of the marvelous series.
Close Encounters of the Curd Kind CRMystery
The mystery is reminiscent of Scooby-Doo in some ways. There seems to be a lot going on in the small town of Doyle, California. We have aliens, witches, ghosts, a murderer, law enforcement, and a circus in town. So things are hopping. It all kept moving at a fast pace.
5 Stars for Close Encounters of the Curd Kind by Kirsten Weiss
Close Encounters of the Curd Kind by Kirsten Weiss is captivating, and I loved the fresh look at the world around Doyle. This book is getting five stars. I highly recommend this story to all cozy readers out there.

Don't forget to look for Fate, A Doyle Witch Cozy Mystery coming this November to see how the witches handle the similar issues that Susan just tackled.

This is a fun series, one of my favorites. I like the location and premise of the town of Doyle, a UFO-centric California burg. The main character, Susan, is a bit of control-freak which bugged me a bit in the first two books but I felt like there was a story there. In this third book, I found out why. And I wanted to give her a hug. There was a whole lot of backstory in this book along with the mystery. Susan has personal demons she's working through and her cousin Dixie remains a handful but is doing some personal growth of her own. Susan's blossoming romance with her oldest friend, Arsen, is taking its time. I like their friendship first then romance approach.
This one moved a bit more slowly and there was more information with just the right amount of red herrings tossed around.
I can definitely recommend this book, series and author.

So, I am a bit unsure of this one. Oh, I still liked, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that while I like this series because of the little whack in each story, it got a bit too out there for my liking. Also, there seemed to be a lot going on on the magic side of Doyle (which I haven’t read) and I feel like there are big junks missing to completely understand this one.
Well, the case itself was still traceable, still, all this other stuff going on, plus some puzzling new bits about Susan’s past, it was all a bit much to stay unsolved/unrevealed for one book.
So yeah. If you’re not reading both sides of the Doyle series this one could leave you with an unsatisfied taste - but I guess it’s a clever way to get the reader to also read the magic centered books.

A good cozy mystery!

A bit wacky, a bit out-there: that’s a good way to describe Susan’s B&B. I loved the quirkiness of the setting, characters, and story. The mystery part was great. A pleasant read for sure. Good ending too. It had a good flow, a good pace, and a good vibe. Well-written, intriguing, original!

Fun read

This was a really fun read. The mysteries are convoluted and there is a lot going on. Loved how relationships have come together in the series.

Close encounters of the curd kind.

Susan is quite the detective when she puts her mind to it. I'm happy she came to terms with her past.

There is another crazy mystery to be solved, but Susan Witsend, the owner of the famed UFU-themed Bed and Breakfast in Nevada, is not going to get involved. The town’s sheriff is more than happy to throw her in jail, but when Clare (her deceased neighbor’s daughter) asks for Susan’s help she just can’t seem to stay out of things. Can Susan solve the mystery? Will she end up in jail? Can she keep herself from becoming another casualty?

This is a wacky, laugh-out-loud, paranormal, cozy mystery with all the key elements. It is a mystery that includes strange UFO-like sightings, odd lights in the night sky, missing cows, and of course little green men (oh my!).

I have not read any of the books in this series, and I didn't have any trouble keeping up, there were a few references to the other books, but nothing that made you feel lost. The town of Doyle seems to have alot going on. There are alot of people in Doyle who believe in UFO's and people have disappeared and then reappeared later, hinting at alien abduction. Are the sisters really witches, and what is with the disappearance of the cows, throw in a dead body and you have a great story. I did enjoy the book and will read more by this author.

Close Encounters of the Curd Kind is the third book in A Wits' End Cozy Mystery series. This is a delightfully quirky cozy mystery with wonderful characters. The storyline keeps you thoroughly engaged as you laugh your way through Susan Witsend's newest mystery. With missing cows and alien lights in the sky, we ask ourselves: Is there really alien life out there?

I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Kirsten Weiss is one of those authors who manages to combine, murder, mayhem and aliens somehow. The resulting action and adventures are harrowing and hilarious- yet still deadly serious.

Oh, and we must not forget a bit of romance- kinda, sorta.

All in the name of good fun, living long and prospering - except for the abductions and getting dead parts.

Is there really an alien invasion happening? What about the murders? And why is there a psychic hanging around for so long? And the cows; where did the cows go? So many questions and it’s up to Susan to find the answers!
I really enjoyed the book. The suspense was kept going through the whole story. The characters are fun and the story was a fast read.

I have. not yet read the first two books so I did kind of feel like I was missing something. Even so, I love the characters, Susan and Claire among a few. I also loved the laugh out loud story and the amusing antics of these wonderful characters. If you like fun cozies with some zany UFO type antics, this is the book for you. I also LOVE the recipes.

It had good moments, but not as good as other books in the series. Too many references to past times leaving me not sure what was current and what wasn't. I didn't feel the characters were as well developed, and reoccurring characters seemed shallow. I expected more from this author, and was sadly disappointed. Probably won't read more in this series---if there are more.

I can always count on Kirsten Weiss to deliver an intriguing, sometimes humorous and sometimes heartfelt story, and this one was no exception. In this case, with UFO mania and lemon curd. And after having just read a lot of really intense things, something a little lighter was just what I needed! If you like cozy mysteries, you can't do better than Kirsten Weiss.
