This is first book in the Piccolo True Adventure series that I read, and I was hooked. I have a penchant for the brooding and the unknown, and these sea mysteries are right up my alley.

This was the book which introduced me to Mary Celeste...

...and The Flying Dutchman.

"A mystery remains a mystery until somebody discovers an explanation."

"The only time something is totally mystifying is when all the evidence has been removed, and when nobody is left alive to tell the story..."

If you like the Loch Ness Monster and won't be driven crazy by unsolved mysteries, you will like this book. Garrett does a good job of stringing these stories together and doesn't shy away from the unsolved, and so very mysterious/creepy, ones. And yet not all are left unresolved and, even though there is a little mystery in all, some are best described in the author's own words: "Perhaps the world is divided into the mystifiers and the mystified, and whether it is a mystery or not depends upon which of the two you belong to."

Another purchase, like Peter Haining's "Restless Bones", from my school Bookworm club, this is scary and fun and informative.
