Sweet yet predictable, super clean romance that brings a lovely HEA.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just love the friends to lovers romance tropes. It just makes it such a great story to read because the characters are already super familiar with themselves and each other.
The best part of these type of stories is the realization when all these feelings and genuine care for your best friend has morphed into love.
This book covers the growth of feeling so well. That delicate balance of friendship and the tentative crossing over into deeper feelings. The author also included a great twist of a deeply held secret that could change everything.
The story contains a range of emotions and Calhoune carries the reader through each and every one of them throughout the story. Grab those tissues in a few spots!
Set an Alaska where community is essential and friendship abounds, you can’t help but get attached to the characters in the story. The connection she builds is amazing and you find yourself rooting for Piper and Braden to figure it all out!
A sweet, yet powerfully emotional read, this is a perfect Christmas story!
Alaskan Christmas Redemption is a short Christmas novella set in Owl Creek, Alaska. It is the third book in the Home to Owl Creek series.
Braden North has returned to Owl Creek after a lengthy absence. Guilt and a secret he has long harbored have kept him away. Shortly after his arrival, his best friend, Piper Miller, asks him to help save her family's diner, which was started by her late father. Braden's secret has distanced him from Piper for a long time. Will he consent to help her?
This was a nice inspirational Christmas romance. There is a solid theme of forgiveness and redemption. However, I feel the reason for Braden's distancing himself from Piper, his family, and his town was a little weak. There were few plot twists and the ending was predictable. However, it was still a fun Christmas read.
If you enjoy Christmas romances and stories set in Alaska, give this one a try.
I received a free copy of this book from Harlequin via Netgalley. My review is voluntary.
So this story follows Braden North and Piper Miller. Braden has recently returned to Owl Creek, Alaska after having been gone for years and he's harboring a secret. Piper is still reeling from her father's death a few years ago and is struggling to turn around the Snowy Owl Diner she inherited from him. She doesn't want to admit it but she's in the hole for a lot of money and she just can't seem to keep up with the flashier new restaurants.
This is a friends to lovers small town romance that helps you get into the Christmas spirit as the characters trim trees, eat holiday pies, and sip hot cocoa. The romance was sweet and easy to read with me finishing it in one day. However I felt the secret was more of a misunderstanding that could've easily been explained with one talk and it later was. So it felt dragged out to me and I wish their was a little more conflict.
I do want to mention that this line is faith based so there are mentions of God and prayer during times of need. As a Christian woman that didn't bother me. And as someone who went to Catholic school and has read Christian books and seen many Christian movies I don't feel it was done in a way where religion was forced down your throats like some Christian stories.
This was more of a 2.5 for me because it wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. The secret being so trivial yet dragged out so long caused me to bump it down some stars. And there could've been a little more coziness. I would've loved to see the saving the diner plot expanded upon more.
What happens when you feel your best friend slipping away just when you need him the most? This is Piper Miller's predicament as she faces losing the family business that meant so much to her late father and believing that she has to handle it alone. She doesn't want to worry her mother and brother and the one person she can confide in is now out of reach. Piper needs her life-long friend but Braden North isn't the same person that she once knew. She may be keeping her family in the dark but Braden definitely has a secret that may forever change the relationship they've always known!
I love it when friends realize that their friendship has turned into something more and discovering this during the Christmas season is like placing the star on top of the tree! Author Belle Calhoune takes us back to Owl Creek, Alaska and it's a wonderful place to be at Christmas. Eating at the Snowy Owl Diner, sampling the Oreo milkshakes, decorating the Christmas trees, and spending time with family and friends. And don't forget the grace and forgiveness that overflows during this season of love and goodwill!
If you enjoy reading stories with realistic family dynamics in small town settings, you will certainly want to read Alaska Christmas Redemption. You need to see if Piper and Braden can salvage their friendship or perhaps find something more!
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. A favorable review was not required and no compensation was received. These are my own thoughts.
Braden North is bending over backwards helping his best friend Piper Miller work hard to save her diner. While Piper is glad that Braden is there to help her, she can't forgive the fact that he abandoned her several years ago. The timing was awful because Piper lost her beloved father, then she lost her best friend. He is back and he is helping, but Piper is guarding her heart.
With regard to her diner, it was her father's baby. Piper wants to keep it running profitably and by so doing she knows she will always honor her father. She has mixed feelings working with Braden. On the one hand she is glad he back, then the hurt she still feels when he left is at war with the fact that she is beginning to have stronger feelings for him.
Meanwhile, Braden is fighting his own battle with regard to Piper. He is glad to be back, but will he stay in their lovely town? Actually, Braden is hiding something from Piper, and should she find out, he worries if he will lose her for good.
This sensitive story of friends to lovers offers so much. It touches on secrets, forgiveness, hope and love. Factor in the beautiful Alaskan setting, the holiday season, and the warm community, and what you have was a wonderful story with a satisfying HEA.
Many thanks to Love Inspired and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
“I want to help you save the diner.”
In my true bad reading habits fashion, I read the the third book in this series and I have zero regrets. Seriously, this romance hit me in all the soft spaces of my heart, friends! Truly, this was such an emotional read and I loved this book so much. I’m not sure if you should or can read these book out of order. Even though this is the third book, I’ve never heard of this series before or this author, but this book has enough details that you understand the side characters and being new to this series, I had so much appreciation for that. After experiencing this author’s writing, I’m excited to explore more of this series and more of Calhoune’s writing!
Alaskan Christmas Redemption follows the story of two childhood best friends finding their way back to each other after four years of being part. Piper has spent these last four years carrying a great weight on her shoulders and now with her family diner at risk, she needs to find a solution to save it or close the doors to the Snowy Owl for good. Braden has just returned to Owl Creek after spending four years running away from his past. When Piper contacts him, asking for help, Braden ends up doing everything he can to help her, despite the secrets he’s keeping from everyone. The two estranged friends will work together to save the diner and maybe lose their hearts to one another along the way.
🦉 Piper Miller – After inheriting her family’s diner, The Snowy Owl, Piper has spent the last four years grieving the death of her father, but The Snowy Owl is in a lot of trouble. With a debt that was covered up by her father, Piper is struggling to come up with a way to save the diner without having to close the doors for good. She reaches out to her childhood best friend, Braden to assist her in saving the diner, but after four years of being apart, she can’t help wishing they could be close again or noticing Braden is hiding something.
“There was no one in the world who could replace Piper. She was one of a kind and as unique as an individual snowflake.”
🦉 Braden North – After leaving Owl Creek four years ago, Braden has finally come home to be with his family, but the weight of the past is weighing heavily on his mind. When Piper, his childhood best friend reaching out to him, seeking his help with saving the diner, despite wanting to keep his distance, Braden agrees to help and comes up with a brilliant plan to save The Snowy Owl. But as Braden spends more time with Piper, he’s not only falling for her, but he’s struggling to confess the real reason he left Owl Creek four years ago.
Together Piper and Braden will make a dynamic duo that’ll turn The Snowy Owl into the hottest spot in Owl Creek for the holiday season. Along the way, these two characters will learn to find the hope in situations out of their control, unravel the secrets of the past, discover what it means to fall in love with someone you’ve known all your life, and be forgiving even when we’re our most vulnerable.
“Remember when a chocolate cherry shake would make everything feel better? I miss those days”
We follow the perspective of both Piper and Braden throughout this story. I really loved Piper as a character. She’s confident, sweet, loving, and has a charismatic charm about her that I couldn’t resist. Plus, her love for Christmas just really warmed my heart. We also see a lot of Piper’s grief through her perspective. Braden, on the other hand, wasn’t my favorite perspective. A lot of his perspective is through internal struggle and seeing his thoughts on how he’s handling things. Together, I think the perspectives balanced the story out nicely and it paints that full picture of what happened with both characters in certain moments.
There’s also a huge theme of family throughout this book and I crumbled so much with this that theme. I always say my loyalty and family are my Achilles’ heel, and they truly are. And the whole sense of family throughout this book just hit so close to home. Piper is carrying the knowledge of what’s happening with the diner, and refuses to tell her brother and mother what has been occurring because she knows how hard they’ve recently struggled. On top of that, her whole family is still feeling the loss of Jack Miller, Piper’s father. There’s also the rekindling of family bonds on Braden’s side of this story. Braden’s younger sister was kidnap as a baby and now that they’re both home, under the same roof, they’re trying to find a way to connect with one another. But under all of that, there’s a deep sense of not wanting to disappoint your family or let them down because of hardships, feeling like you’re not measuring up to expectations, and it plays an important role in the lives of our two main characters throughout this book. And since this is a small town, we have the small town vibes and close knit community. So it feels like one big family and it’s like being wrapped up in a warm, fuzzy hug.
“His mother had once told him that even when you lost a person you loved, memories of them were everywhere you turned.”
Even though this is a holiday romance, there are heavy themes of grief and loss of loved ones in this book. And even though this is suppose to be a holiday romance, this is the first holiday romance I’ve read that addresses the amount of loss and grief you can feel around the holidays. I find not many authors show this side of the holidays, but it’s such an important perspective to show especially during the holidays. A we see a wide plethora of that through this book with many side characters. We also have multiple conversations surrounding that grief and remembering those loved ones. As I mention all the time, family is everything to me and this book really touched parts of my soul when it comes to that topic. But even though we have themes of grief, there’s also themes of hope throughout this book. I think the author did a beautiful job at pairing the two alongside one another. These two feelings go hand in hand with one another so often and I really appreciated that we see both sides.
Overall, this book made me really soft and sappy. I was crying on and off through this book because of so many themes throughout this story. I think many readers are going to fall in love with this story, with the characters, and the Alaska setting is just stunning. I’m truly excited to pick up the other books in this series and I’m eagerly awaiting future books for this series because this was such a great read. I read this book in one whole day and every time I set it down, I had to pick up back up immediately. Truly, I hope more readers pick this book up because is such a great read and it touched all the soft spots of my heart!
Her diner is in serious trouble and she's counting on her childhood best friend to help her find a way to keep her dad's dream alive while he left town to hide a secret from her and now must finally tell her the truth. Love, family, forgiveness, and friends to lovers culminate in this delightful story.
Alaskan Christmas Redemption is the third of the Home to Owl Creek series of standalone romances. I had no trouble reading it out of order though previous books' characters are strong secondary characters.
Piper Miller inherited the family diner when her dad died and was excited to carry on his dream by running the diner. Only, a series of expensive mishaps along with financial struggles have her at her wit's end on finding a way to bring in fresh revenue and stay open. She refuses to share her burden with her mom and older brother, but does hope that her best friend, now that he's back in town, will help her find a way. Meanwhile, Piper love Christmas, but it also reminds her of her loss so she fights grief and the feeling that she might want to exchange friend status for something more with Braden.
Braden North counted Piper as his closest friend until the day her world fell apart and he sees himself as responsible. He hid what he knew about her dad's death and left town because his guilt overwhelmed him. He's back and still trying to avoid Piper and the past, but her great need pulls him in and he starts to feel for her as someone more than a friend. The hard part is getting past the protective barrier around her heart from him because he left her once.
A gentle, sugary friends to lovers romance, emphasis on family, faith, and forgiveness, and set in a cozy Alaskan smalltown. The story has no sharp edges and it doesn't try to dig too deep. There are secrets and small twists when the truth comes out. But, for the most part, it swept me up in the spirit of Christmas and the feels.
I had a couple small distractions like not really agreeing with Piper about keeping her situation a secret from her family and definitely not agreeing with Braden about hoarding that secret well beyond it's use-by date. I felt the urge to lock the pair in a closet and make them talk it all out.
That said, they had to come to terms with their friendship was morphing even while they were great as friends and had a rich and full shared history. I loved them together and loved seeing them work to save the diner even while the season in the small town was celebrated beautifully.
All in all, my first visit with the author's writing and this series has me interested in future books, but also the two earlier Owl Creek books particularly Hank and Sage's story. Inspirational romance and sweet contemporary romance fans should definitely give this Christmas confection a taste.
My thanks to Harlequin for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Braden and Piper were friends since preschool. Then something terrible happened to change that and life led them on different paths.
A few years later, Piper's diner is in trouble. But is he the right person to ask for help? A lot has changed for him too, but he still has feelings for Piper, and sweet memories of their friendship.
Many characters have difficult pasts and lives in Owl Creek. But can Piper and Braden rekindle what they once had? Braden's opinion of, and lasting feelings for, Piper, are so sweet and heartfelt that it made my own heart ache. He has a secret about years ago, but will he let it slip?
Braden's sister Sage was abducted and he's overjoyed when she is back. I really liked her straight-talking, but understanding attitude and the fact she was full of empathy and truth.
Piper is driven and Braden is sensitive and appreciates Piper. His family chocolate business is a hub in the town too, but Piper is important to him.
Owl Creek is a snowy, cosy place and the Snowy Owl Diner is an important place in the community. I loved the festive traditions
Alaskan Christmas Redemption is a realistic, heartwarming story that has an undercurrent of real-life problems such as sudden loss, economic hardship or being bi-racial as well as love and friendship.
Belle Calhoune creates a town that I felt immersed in and I felt for the characters. I was rooting for Braden and Piper. Friendship, loyalty and evaluating what's important are key themes here and ones I enjoy.
Can Piper trust Braden after his absence and the past? I was glad that Piper had her brother Hank too. The subplots of the diner situation and Braden and Piper as well as themes of secrets, feelings fate faith and love make this a great book for a lazy afternoon.
Thanks to Belle Calhoune and Harlequin Love Inspired for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year. If ever there was a time to have faith, it’s during Christmas.”
Belle Calhoune welcomes readers back to Owl Creek, Alaska with Alaskan Christmas Redemption, the third book in her Home to Owl Creek series. Belle is a new to me author and I had no problem getting into the story. I can say that readers of this series will be happy to catch up on the previous couples.
Alaskan Christmas Redemption pairs best friends since childhood who have secrets that could destroy their families.
Four years ago, Piper Miller lost her father in a tragic snowmobile accident. Her best friend, Braden North was the first person to come across her father and tried to save him. After her father died, Piper took over his restaurant, The Snowy Owl. For six months, Braden supported Piper through her grief, until one day he just up and left without any reason as to why.
After three and a half years of traveling the world and seeking adventures, Braden has returned to Owl Creek. While he’s been gone, some things have changed, but unfortunately some things remain the same. Braden has been avoiding Piper, but when she finally requests that he stops by the diner, he can not come up with an excuse not to. He’s surprised to learn that the diner is in risk of having to close due to finances. He feels horrible for Piper, but he doesn’t think he can be around her. Ultimately, he agrees to help out but knows it will be hard to keep his secret.
Love Inspired is the inspirational romance line of Harlequin. The line is faith-based. In the past, I’ve read a book from this line and had God and religion crammed down my throat. I’m happy to say Belle didn’t do that. There is mention of God and a couple of prayers, but I didn’t find it to be too much. In fact, I thought it was very subtle.
I loved that this was a friends-to-lovers, small-town romance. The romance really sneaks up on you. Piper and Braden have known each other their entire lives, as have their families. I wish there would have been more family time and more Christmas moments. I mean Christmas is in the title. Ultimately, I found Alaskan Christmas Redemption to be about forgiveness, mainly learning to forgive yourself for things out of your control. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Eeeeepppp -- Christmas in Alaska, yes please! Only, I'm hoping reindeer pizza actually means cute little pizzas that come in the shape of a reindeer rather than...well...you know. :-( Because Santa might have something to say about that.
Belle Calhoune has created such a vibrant community in Owl Creek. This is the third book in the series and reads absolutely fine as a standalone but I'm now dreaming up future stories that take place here and hoping that the author is too. I mean, you really can't go wrong with a town that features a chocolate factory, right?
A friends-to-more romance with plenty of bumps in the road made me a captivated reader. Love the way the author tortures her readers with hints of Braden's secret and then tortures us some more once its revealed.
Calhoune begins her novel with this scripture from John: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27) which really encompasses the story. Both Braden and Piper's actions come from a place of fear and it isn't until everything is out in the open that they are able to find that special peace...and a way to a happily ever after together.
Angsty romance with a touch of a holiday cheer makes this the perfect Christmas love story.
Every book in this series has been wonderful and this book is no exception! Even the cover is fabulous! When your best friend from elementary school suddenly takes off for an extended period of time and does extreme sports without a word to you, then returns and is very distant, what are you to think? This is the case with Piper and Braden. They have been best friends since they were children and he helped Piper through her father's death 4 years ago. However, shortly after that, Braden suddenly takes off to places around the world to do extreme sports and then when he returns, he acts differently towards her. He's distant and doesn't talk much to her. Piper doesn't understand what's happened. Braden is holding a secret and if he tells Piper, it might change their whole relationship. Piper is running her late father's diner but it's financially strapped and she turns to Braden for help. Braden doesn't know how to help without divulging his secret and changing things. This is a great book to put you in the mood for the holidays! I loved how Braden and Piper not only worked through their relationship but the other characters added a fun element to the story!
Book three in the Owl Creek series, you can read this as a stand alone but you may have to work to put some of the pieces together if you don’t read books one and two. And believe me, they are worth the read!
Best friends forever, Braden and Piper have to come to grips with the changes in each other since they were last together. And they have some help, wanted or not, from their families.
Author Belle Calhoune pens a story of tragedy, struggles, and forgiveness, but in such a way that it’s not heavy. I was thrilled to return to Owl Creek and its inhabitants. They made me laugh, made me frustrated, and the ending made me sigh in contentment. All the feels! A heartwarming Christmas tale, I highly recommend it.
Alaskan Christmas Redemption is a sweet friends to lovers romance that will definitely get you into holiday spirit. Braden and Piper have always been best friends. Piper needs Braden's help to save her dying business. Can they get their friendship back and maybe more?
As I said, I did think this was a sweet romance. I liked that Braden and Piper had a history. I loved how they couple brought the best out in each other. My only issue was the secret that Braden carries was a little underwhelming and it could have been cleared up with one conversation. While it can be read as a stand alone, I did feel at a little bit of a disadvantage to not knowing back story for some of the peripheral characters. Overall it was a nice clean romance a sweet ending.
A sweet, heartwarming Christmas tale of family, best friends, and hidden secrets. Alaskan Christmas Redemption is the third book in author Belle Calhoune's Home to Owl Creek series, but it can easily be read as a standalone novel.
Small town romances with lifelong best friends are some of my favorite stories to read, and Belle Calhoune has the perfect book to get readers in the holiday spirit. Tragic losses, supportive families, and forgiveness bring this story together for a satisfying conclusion. Readers will wish they could visit Owl Creek, Alaska, stop by the Snowy Owl Diner for a piece of pie, and join in the diner's fabulous Christmas tree trimming party.
Be sure to add Alaskan Christmas Redemption to your holiday reading list!
I haven't read the earlier books in this mini-series, which probably explains why I felt a bit lost when I started reading Belle Calhoune's "Alaskan Christmas Redemption." There were references to several characters and past events that weren't fully explained, which led to some confusion on my part. For example, it wasn't mentioned until about halfway through the book that female lead character Piper's older brother Hank was actually her half-brother. I thought that might be why they had different last names, but it was somewhat confusing until the author confirmed that was the case.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the only thing about this book that didn't make sense to me. Much of the plot revolved around childhood friends Piper and Braden working together to save Piper's family diner, but I couldn't figure out exactly why Piper was so convinced that Braden was the perfect person to help her. How exactly was Braden qualified to help a failing business? All he seemed to do was throw out random ideas, though they did miraculously seem to work. Was he a business major in college or something? Did he even go to college? We really didn't learn much about Braden's background aside from his family connections and his time traveling the world in pursuit of adventure.
I also thought that Braden's angst over his "role" in Piper's father's death was ridiculous and overblown. Aside from the fact that the whole thing could have been cleared up with a simple conversation if Braden hadn't been too cowardly to talk to his supposed best friend Piper, the fact is that Piper's father confronted Braden, not the other way around. As for Piper, while I agree with her that Braden shouldn't have lied about what happened on the day of her father's death, I thought she completely overreacted in blaming Braden. There's no way that Braden could have predicted her father's accident, and it wasn't fair for her to claim that he should have just apologized and accepted the blame for something he didn't do solely to avoid an argument.
Bottom line: while this book was not my cup of tea, it seems likely to appeal to fans of sweet, clean (kissing only) small town romance and Christian fiction. I would probably try another one of this author's books in the future.
ALASKAN CHRISTMAS REDEMPTION by Belle Calhoune is the third book in the Home to Owl Creek Book series. It is the delightful inspirational story of Piper Miller and her best friend Braden North.
Piper inherited her beloved father’s diner in Owl Creek after his sudden passing inheriting all the financial woes that came with it. The local diner has been a staple in town for years – the place for good food and good company. After finding that it had been running in the red for years, she just seems to be falling further and further down the debt rabbit hole. She has to find a way to turn it into the black or she will have to admit to her family that she is a failure and possibly lose the diner. That’s when she turns to her best friend, Braden.
Braden always knew he could depend on his best friend, but when he felt responsible for such great sorrows in her life, he found it too unbearable to even be around her. The guilt ate him up so much that he left town telling everyone he was going in search of adventure. In actuality, guilt was something he couldn’t out run and he eventually returns home still fearful of facing Piper. When Piper left word she needed his help, he wasn’t sure how he could face her, but he knew he had to help her in any way he could. He would just have to keep his secret to himself.
Since it was nearing Christmas, Piper and Braden came up with the plan to use the holiday in their favor. Starting with the holiday stroll, they would roll out specialties like Piper’s homemade pies and Braden’s wizardry with making milk shakes. Then they find new items for the menu and add contests. They are determined to come out on top in the restaurant competition with the new joints in town and bring the diner back to “the” place to dine.
Can Braden find the courage to confess to Piper about the past? Can he find forgiveness – even from himself? Can Braden figure out his future without disappointing his family since he has no desire to join the family’s chocolate candy business? Will Piper ever realize how capable she is – that if she sets her mind to it that she can do anything? Can she balance maintaining her father’s style at the diner while still putting her stamp on it while making it a profitable business? Can their friendship survive the stronger feelings they are both feeling? Is there a future for Piper and Braden or will Braden disappear again taking with him her heart this time?
ALASKAN CHRISTMAS REDEMPTION by Belle Calhoune is a story full of healing, forgiveness, compassion, love that can conquer anything, and love of family all with a thread of faith. The author has you feeling the emotions of both Piper and Braden as you hope for a happily ever after. This is a Christmas story that will warm your heart any time of the year. Although part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book. This is the first book I’ve read in this series and most definitely recommend it giving it a 5+ stars!
This was a sweet romance that had me cheering for the couple to be. Piper is running the diner that her beloved father used to own before his untimely and unexpected death. Unfortunately, the diner is operating way in the red and Piper needs a way to save it. Braden North, her childhood friend who disappeared from her life shortly after her father’s death, suddenly reappears and has a suggestion that may help save the diner. The relationship between the two of them sparkled like the Alaskan snow and was so evident to me as I read that they were destined to be together if both of them would just realize that no relationship is without hardships. I enjoyed reading the story of Piper and Braden, and the setting for the tale was perfect! I could so easily conjure up an image of the little Alaskan town in my mind that it became real to me. The author did a wonderful job of establishing the setting, lovable but flawed characters and a plot that just flowed. I especially enjoyed that it was a clean read that I can recommend to any of my friends who enjoy reading romance.
Piper Miller is struggling to keep her family’s diner afloat in the small town of Owl Creek Alaska, after the passing of her father. She does not want to share her struggles with her mother or brother, so she feels she must do this on her own. If only she had her best friend by her side, but Braden has been gone for a few years. Can she save the diner and honor her father on her own?
Braden North has returned home after travelling the world for a few years. He is keeping a secret about the day that his best friend Pipers father was killed. He did not know how to tell her, so he ran. Now he is back and vows to help Piper however he can to make up for his secret. Will she be able to trust him after she finds out what he did the day her father died?
I loved this sweet story of two small town best friends rekindling their friendship and finding out that they may have deeper feelings for each other. I read this as a stand a lone novel, and had no trouble with the backstory of the supporting characters as Belle Calhoune, the author did a brilliant job of filling us in as the story progressed. This was the perfect novel for a chilly day curled up by the fire. Thank you so much to the author, Belle Calhoune, Harlequin Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was fabulous! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.
We return once again to Owl Creek, Alaska where we are introduced to best friends Piper Miller and Braden North. This is our third time visiting Owl Creek where Belle Calhoune once again sets a charming story in this lovely town. This time around we get to experience Christmas Owl Creek style! Piper Miller is in deep trouble. Her father left her his diner, but he was losing money. It’s now up to her to save it. Braden North has been gone a long time. He returns home with a secret that could destroy his friendship with Piper. It’s why he ran away all those years ago. With her diner failing, she turns to Braden to help her. He can’t refuse her, but can he keep his secret and his heart?
I love this book for so many reasons. First of all, I love the cover. Once again, Harlequin is stepping up and giving us amazing covers. Secondly, I just love visiting Owl Creek and want to seriously live there. It’s such a pleasure each time we get to visit this town and all it’s quirky characters. Thirdly, I just love Christmas. Owl Creek does it up right. Next, I love Piper and Braden. I won’t ruin it for you, but it’s a beautiful love story. It’s such a great Christmas story and represents what Christmas should be about. Leaning on God and those we love to help us out of impossible situations. A story about hope! We could all use a little hope right about now!!!
Four years ago Piper Miller’s father, Jack, died whilst out riding his snowmobile. Piper inherited his business, the Snowy Owl diner but was shocked to discover how much it is struggling financially and has been for years. She is so happy when her since childhood best friend Braden North returns to Owl Creek after an adventurous four years away. She knows something has changed about their relationship. He seems reticent about them being together and obviously has secrets he’s not sharing. He’s actually filled with guilt as he’d argued with Jack just before his death and has never admitted that to anyone. Can he find the courage to be honest with Piper? Can they work together to help reinvigorate her ailing business? Will love and faith find a way to help them both heal?
This is a very Christian romance, one with faith at its core. It is a story of guilt, healing, trusting in God, following your heart and taking a chance, believing God will guide you. It is set in a delightful community and it was great to reconnect with some of the characters from earlier books in this series. It is a story of family, friendship, community, faith and love.
Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I voluntarily read and have honestly reviewed.
Braden North has returned home and learns his best friend, Piper Miller, is in danger of losing her diner. His years away was because of a secret that he fears would make Piper hate him. Rather than lose her, he left to go on grand adventures. Nevertheless, Braden is determined to help Piper save her father's legacy. If only his heart didn't complicate matters.
The third book in the Home to Owl Creek series can also be read as a standalone, I haven't read the other two books in the series.
I found this to be a sweet story. I loved the banter and friendship between Piper and Braden. I also loved how they relied on each other. I felt that the 'secret' was more of a misunderstanding that Braden could have cleared up quickly with open communication. I especially enjoyed reading about how she revitalized her business but I was surprised that she hadn't thought of those initiatives on her own as she appeared to be resilient and creative. But it is so good to have a friend in your corner, who pushes you and who is willing to go the extra mile.
Overall, a feel good read.
Thank you #Harlequin and #Netgalley
This was an enjoyable story about two best friends who have encouraged and supported each other since childhood. However, now as young adults, they have grown apart because Braden has a secret he’s keeping from Piper. The guilt he feels over the death of Piper’s father has made him restless, and he’s traveled the world trying to unsuccessfully gain peace. Piper is desperate to save the diner that was so important to her dad. Braden steps up to help Piper with a business plan, and they work together to turn things around. Braden’s secret is still a wall between them, but as their feelings move from friendship to love, Braden still needs to find the courage to ask for forgiveness. He’s going to need to risk everything to see if he can have a future with Piper.
One of the things that I liked about this story was that the author allowed time for their relationship to grow from friendship to romance. The theme of giving and receiving forgiveness adds depth to the story. This is a good story, and I’m interested in reading more in this series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Alaskan Christmas Redemption is a contemporary Christmas novella.
Piper Miller is the sole owner of financially declining Snowy Owl Diner. Snowy Owl Diner was owned by Jack Miller until his untimely death. Jack Miller died with a secret.
Braden North, Piper's best friend since they were in diapers. Braden North always loved living in Owl Creek, Alaska. However, he was keeping a secret.
The Alaskan Christmas Redemption has drama, secrets, and romance. It is the story of Piper Miller and Braden North and can act as a stand-alone in the Home To Owl Creek series.
I recommend Alaskan Christmas Redemption to readers who appreciate clean-wholesome romance stories.
God Bless and Thank You for reading. I give Alaskan Christmas Redemption 5*/5*
This was such a sweet romance. The title was well chosen as you will learn when you read the book.
Redemption and forgiveness is something that Braden North desires and needs. There was a tragedy in his past that caused him to flee his hometown of Owl Creek. He is back in town and he is helping his best friend, Piper Miller, try to save her family's diner. Piper is on the brink of losing it all which makes her sad for more than one reason. She, of course, does not want the business to fail, but she also wants to keep her father's dream alive, as he was the one who started the diner years before his death. Braden is frightened that the secret he is keeping could destroy his relationship with Piper, which causes him to keep her at an arm's length. This is one of my favorite kinds of romances - where friends decide they need to be more than friends. This story is set during the Christmas season which makes it even more enjoyable to read. I love the small town storyline as well. This is a story of love and forgiveness and learning to heal. If you want a light, romantic read with an inspirational message, you will enjoy this book.
Braden and Piper have been friends for a long time but after the death of Pipers father Braden left. While Piper stood home barely keeping her fathers restaurant alive after finding out that her father was barely getting by. Braden is now back after a while and still feeling some semblance of guilt holding a secret from Piper and will at least try to keep her fathers business alive by helping her get out of the red.
So this was a the first holiday like book I've read this year and I'd give it like 3 christmas bells outta four. If you are looking for some Christmas spirit here your not really going to get it. But if you are looking for a pretty enjoyable contemporary then yes I'd recommend you check it out. I enjoyed the book, I was pretty curious to see what was the big deal with Braden and his big secret and when I got to it honestly I was like meh but the story as a whole was pretty good. I liked seeing them work together to improve Pipers situation even if it was really just Bradens guilt keeping him there to help Piper out.
What a warm and wonderful Christmas story.
Owl Creek, Alaska is the setting of the third book in this series but is fine as a stand alone book.
Many secondary characters add to the closeness and friendships found throughout the town.
The author does a great job of bringing the joy of the season to readers with her wonderful descriptions of small town holiday happenings.
Piper Miller is busy trying to save the family diner which was her father's legacy. Braden North returns home after using part of his trust fund for worldwide adventures. Braden is keeping a secret which drove him away from home several years ago.
Braden and Piper share a life long friendship and discover their feelings for each other go deeper than just friends. They need to communicate, trust each other and be honest if they want a happy future together.
I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow and blossom while dealing with hurdles and challenges.
A sweet enjoyable read with a sweet ending that you will enjoy.
Braden and Piper were the best of friends from little on. They always had each other’s back through childhood and adolescence and were inseparable. Shortly after Piper’s dad passed away, Braden left for 4 long years, but now is back in Owl Creek. It was so heartwarming to hear how close they were and how they both longed to get back to the place they once were. One thing is holding their friendship back, and only Braden knows why. Why he left 4 years ago and why he cannot become close to Piper again. Will his secret break their relationship forever once it comes out? Or will this Christmastime be one of answers, healing, and love?
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves to curl up with a blanket and a book and enjoy clean love stories that make you smile just thinking about the characters! That is what this book was for me! I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.
