Investigating sabotage on a construction site, journalist Jackie Dutton stumbles on a murder—and barely escapes when she flees and falls off a cliff. Only quick thinking from law-enforcement ranger Shawn Burkett, her ex-boyfriend, saves her. Now facing a massive blizzard and relentless pursuers together, they must rely on their fragile trust and wilderness skills to get out alive…
Wilderness Sabotage is an action packed story from start to finish that kept me turning the pages. Jackie Dutton, a newspaper journalist, is sent by her boss to check out a construction site in an isolated area of Idaho when a tip comes through about a possible sabotage. She doesn't get anywhere with her questioning but witnesses a murder before she leaves the site, is spotted by the murderer, and has to run for her life. Jackie is rescued by someone who scares away the murderer as she is hanging on for her life literally over the edge of a cliff. Her rescuer, a ranger with the Bureau of Land Management and former boyfriend, Shawn Burkett gets there in the nick of time but it is short lived when the killer and accomplices show up again. As the two run to get away from the pursuers, they have to endure the elements of freezing temperatures, snow, and an approaching blizzard without proper apparel, shelter, and supplies. As they are trying to stay alive, find out what is going on, they also have some unfinished business to get past, a history that did not end well. This is an entertaining read that takes place Christmas week. Will they get away from the bad guys in time for Christmas Day? A little surprise is found out about someone behind the goings on. A great read by an author that doesn't disappoint. I received a complimentary ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are mine only.
Buona storia ambientata nella natura selvaggia in un inclemente inverno. Da accapponare la pelle la scena coi lupi... E giustamente ce n'è uno in copertina.
I'm a sucker for survivalist "man vs. elements" stories in romance, and this one is action packed. Once our heroine witnesses the murder and starts running, it's one thing after another as her and the hero find supplies, lose supplies, fall off cliffs, fall through an icy lake, come across a pack of feeding wolves - you name it, it happens to them. I also liked the motive/mystery of what the bad guys were up to. A nice change of pace from the usual serial killer / drug cartel plots you see in romantic suspense novels.
Unfortunately it lost some steam for me at the end after the couple is rescued. It all gets a little too precious and twee, with the big family reunion, declarations of love etc. I also didn't always feel like the inspirational elements were incorporated seamlessly. Sometimes they were, sometimes they felt ham-fisted. But otherwise? A solid read.
I feel a bit let down by this Love Inspired Book. Again, being an author myself, I hate giving fellow authors a poor review. Actually, the storyline of this book was fantastic!!!! That's why I rated it two stars. The storyline had everything satisfactory in it. Survival. It starts with the MC's falling off a cliff, trying to stay warm in the upcoming blizzard, while at the same time getting shot at and pursued by people trying to take them out. They come face to face with wolves, fall through the ice, build a snow fort and everything in between. So the storyline is exciting. What killed it for me was the characters...and the romance. Personal opinion, but I'm so tired of the cliche thing that authors in romance novels do when one MC is mad at the other MC but never takes the time to be an adult and communicate why they're mad. Often times the two characters have parted ways because of a misunderstanding that could have been resolved by a phone call or a conversation. In this case, the guy left without saying goodbye and she never knew why he never aswered her phone calls nothing. I would think that if they were secretly dating, even if her dad sent him away, he could at least find five private minutes to call and explain why. But maybe that's just me. I also felt that the characters were not really real. I kind of feel like their emotions were forced. It got really annoying after a few times when they're in serious danger...for instance. When they're getting shot at and the only thing that Shawn is thinking about is how good it felt to hold Jackie's hand. I'm sorry, but if I'm getting shot at, I'm not going to be re-living the moment where I held my fiance's hand....there's a time for that, but the first thing on my mind would be getting the heck out of here and not getting killed. I also got annoyed with the constant "off the record" references. Once or twice was okay, but in the beginning, it was EVERY. SINGLE. CHAPTER. Until about halfway through. "Off the record." "I could find out if I wanted to." "Of the record." "I could find out if I wanted to." "Off the record." "I'm seeing it with my own two eyes, Shawn!" It got pretty redundant. One last thing was the faith aspect. It's almost the author was writing a story, then halfway through remembered "OH! I'm writing inspirational fiction" and just found ways to insert a prayer here, a prayered there. There was no mention of the characters' faith in God until halfway through the book and then, suddenly, oh, there it is. All in all, great storyline, but I found myself bored by the characters and the romance.

Jackie goes into journalism because she likes to investigate situations. Possibly she likes the adrenaline that she was used to feeling when she followed around her survivalist father. But she thought she would never have to be on the side of the mountain again. At least the man she is stuck with was someone who had also been trained by her father. Too bad Shawn also happens to be her former love.
I am not sure it is possible for two characters to struggle through any more treacherous situations. But since the author set this book in the Idaho wilderness, I think her plot was successful. She had me convinced that they really could be confounded by the elements as well as dangerous people. But the way that Shawn and Jackie protect each other and take care of each other was an example of selflessness.
The author thought of so much back story and managed to resolve tough situations by the end of the book. Yet the details were easy to follow. There were several layers to this story that made it quite interesting.
I really enjoyed this book, but it took me awhile to read it because I checked out the paperback. My reading time often comes at night when I need to use my Kindle to avoid keeping others awake. Anyway do not let the long read time fool you - this is definitely a book that I would recommend.
This was an awesome suspense / romance /mystery was so full of twist & turns !!! The two main characters were well written !! Each had great
ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances !!! Both very strong personalities / characters !! Extremely well developed characters !! The play of when they would recognize their love for ☺💗😊 each other was great !!! I couldn't put it down ( It's 2:20 A . M . !!!!! ) I love this 👍👍👍👍👍 suspense from start to finish !!! ! Also all the survival techniques used were amazing !!! At times they have figure out who they can trust !!! I really enjoyed this book. I've never read anything by this author before, but I will be looking up more of her books now. The characters were both flawed and easy to come to care about. The action never let up the entire book! Just when you thought, how could they possibly get into any more danger, pow! more danger leaving you on the edge of your seat reading as much as you can to find out what happens!
Fast paced, non-stop action. Jackie accidentally witnesses a murder while investigating sabotage. If running from the murderer isn't enough add severe cold, wolves, and a blizzard to the mix and her chances of survival are very slim. However, Jackie runs into her high school sweetheart, Shawn, along the way. A little faith, forgiveness, and love, helps them as they struggle to survive a harsh environment and a brutal killer.
3.5 Stars, nothing much to complain about but nothing much amazing. I picked it up hoping it was clean and short. Yes, clean, yay! But it felt long. It was like a Lifetime movie in print form. It felt like too much was happening to describe and follow it well, while nothing really important ever seemed to happen. By the end I had warmed up to the characters and did appreciate their sweet ending. I doubt I'll seek out more books like this, but I might read another if it ended up on my shelf.
Wow what a ride! This is an intense suspense story filled with intrigue and relentless pursuers. I couldn't put it down! Very well written. I nearly froze just reading it. Even took a little while to calm my heart rate before I could get to sleep (at about 2am!). You know it's a great book if I give up my sleep just to finish reading it. LOL
I can't describe how much I love this book! I was sucked in on page one and couldn't stop reading until I finished it! The story was full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Also, the romance between Shawn and Jackie kept me on my toes. I actually had tears in my eyes near the end, and I wanted more! I highly recommend this book. I just loved it!
This is a very good book. It kept this reader's attention, for sure. The action in this book is amazing!!!!! Kept me on the edge of my seat!! I even shut my kindle off and went to bed. I got back up in an hour and finished the book so I could go to sleep!!!
I liked this one a lot. It was full of action and narrow escapes while also delving into family relationships and why we do what we do. I stayed up way too late to finish this one!
A lot of action and survival worries. One of the best love inspired. Books. However they all end on a cheesy note. Getting married is not the only way to be happy.
Mt review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Wilderness Sabotage. I always look forward to Heather's books. She does an awesome job on suspense. I'm thrilled when I get one in the mail. This one is well written, action packed, and full of drama. I know you are going to love it.
Journalist Jackie Dutton is investigating a report of sabotage on a construction sight in southern Idaho. She is in the area to be part of a wedding. She really needs this story as she is trying for a promotion. The foreman has already left and she is alone when she witnesses a murder. She hardly escapes on a snow mobile. hits a rock, and falls off a cliff. She is rescued by a park ranger who turns out to be her ex-boyfriend.
Park Ranger Shawn Burkett sees a ATV chasing a snow mobile as he turns to follow the vehicle it turns off. He sees the woman on the snow mobile go over the cliff. He must help her the branch won't hold her long. Rescuing her proves difficult as the murderer returns as he climbs down the cliff. Jackie is the woman he had loved, her father forced him to leave. Her father is a nature wilderness personality on TV and reality shows. Jackie, her brother and Shawn had been a part of that team at one time. They could beat this wilderness.
A Journey through the wilderness with killers coming for them at every turn. God has a plan for these two; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him turn things around for you.
Exciting from start to finish! WILDERNESS SABOTAGE by Heather Woodhaven brings a couple back together in an unexpected reunion as they race against time to save their lives from the danger on their heels. The plot was easy to get into and the risk to their lives around every corner held the reader's attention easily.
Jackie is strong and capable in her own right, but secure in herself enough to be able to trust the man that walked out of her life all of those years ago when he's the only thing keeping her alive on more than one occasion.
Shawn is a forgiving man, and though he was the one to walk away he had extenuating circumstances that hurt him more than they did her. Watching them have to work together and grow close again as they tried to make it out was satisfying.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a lot of action and danger swirling in the midst of a faith based romance.
This was a fascinating book. It was a great second chance romance. Jackie Dutton is Dutton is feisty and willing to go the extra mile. Law - enforcement ranger is quiet but determined his name is Shawn Burnett. When they were teens there was a accident and they where separated. It is a fast paced story that has interesting things happening through out the story. It is a story of survival. Thru some very interesting situations. What makes it work is the teamwork. They work together. Despite time you can see the connection has never been lost. Nor has the love despite time. It is hard to put down. I look forward to Heather's next book. J
I have lived in Idaho since 1971 & I can't for the life of me figure out where your story is based on. No where in the desert southwest have the mountains, trees & crevasses that you wrote about. Maybe if you go to the McCall area you might find things like your talking about. But the desert southwest doesn't have all the things in it. Next book you write a book please check the geography for the area before you write it.
Wow! This book is an action-packed ride from beginning to end!! If you like your heart pounding while you are reading, this book is for you! Not only do the main characters have to deal with someone trying to kill them - on a snow covered mountain - but they have to deal with their own history with each other. Lots of twists and turns until the final "bad guy" reveal! I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.
