Do you sell as many books as you want to? Most authors will say no. They want more. But no matter what they do, those sales remain elusive. Worse, the publishing environment is getting harder every year, crushing their dreams day by day. But somehow, some authors succeed. How do they do it? Is there a secret? Is it blind luck? Do they all have teams of ghostwriters behind them churning out novels while one person claims the glory? It’s none of those things. It’s a combination of hard work and correct knowledge. This book gives you that knowledge. You’ll learn things This book gives you the knowledge to sell, and to sell at a high scale. Much of it will surprise you, even if you’re a veteran of indie publishing. You’ll never look at publishing the same way again. Are you ready to unleash your author career? You can start now. What writers think about this series… “This is, by far, the best indie how-to guide I have read.” “Best advice I’ve seen yet.” “Brilliant!” “This author's expertise is truly awesome, as is his flair for communicating complex concepts painlessly.” “This guy SO knows what he's talking about.” “Wow, powerful stuff. Loving this series!” “Game changer.”
Robert J Ryan writes in a style that’s engaging, easy to understand and humorous. I’ve never been more entertained while learning before. Fantastic stuff, and well worth the read if you want to improve in your publishing and marketing journey.
A three-star rating from me is not a bad rating. Don't assume this is going to bomb the book.
Okay, so. This book has some solid advice in it. My issue with this book that really kind of turns me off is the author's tone. The author takes a tone that sort of speaks down to the reader in some ways, and while it contains useful information, the claims that this is in essence the "one true way" fell flat with me.
I have the whole series of these books, and there's a lot of valuable information about sales copy and how to utilize certain marketing techniques, and it's obvious the author has experience and knowledge about what works for him and his writing. I don't doubt that for a second, and there is information enough in these works that I would advise giving them a read. You won't regret reading them and absorbing the data.
However, this is not the only way. There's no singular "right" way to do all of this, and I feel like the author sort of implying that there is (and it's his way) is a problem. So buy it, read it, put the pieces of this into practice that work for you, but don't assume that it's going to be THE answer to your struggles with marketing.
Definitely a lot of useful information. Some of it I've learned elsewhere by reading multiple other books on publishing, sales copy, and working directly in sales in various businesses. For an author with little to no sales, marketing, or advertising experience in any regard...but especially one looking how to market their own books...this book is a must-read for sure.
My only complaint would be that I wish he had gone more in depth on certain aspects of publishing and marketing...but I see the author has other books in this non-fiction series that covers those subjects.
After three years of following the advice of supposed gurus on the topic of Amazon ads and throwing good money after bad, I devoured this book. Immediately afterward, I updated my fantasy book descriptions based on his advice and revisited my covers. I have also begun the process of combing through the also-boughts on Amazon, along with the Top 50 in my genre, trying to identify my BEST targets for ads. But the main thing Robert's book gave me is HOPE. I understand it's a difficult journey, but I'm determined to master these Amazon ads with Robert's (and his fab FB group's) guidance.
I came across Robert Ryan's work through a Facebook group and decided that i'd pick all four of his author unleashed books. I'm glad I did. Reading just this first book opened my eyes to what I'm doing right and what I can be improving on in my writing business. The chapters are full of practical advice, but the one thing I really like is that the author urges you to find out for yourself what works and doesn't work. If you want to be successful as an indie writer, pick up his series.
I literally read this book in a couple hours then went back and reread it over a day. It is filled with candid information and plenty of concepts to make me question how I've been doing things. The old adage of doing the same thing over and over with the same results applies...I'm so pleased to hear something new and challenging to help me break out of the groove of insanity.
First thing: I loved the fact that this book wasn't riddled with examples. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing examples to understand any advice better, but there's a difference between "an example" and "the examples."
This book was concise and gave me a lot of info. I'm now going to check out the one on Amazon Ads.
Phenomenal resource on independent authors and publishers. I need to reread for sure!!! I’m looking forward to implementing the advice for blurbs, ads bidding, the best ads budget, building up the ISBN/ASIN keywords backlist and more. This book is IT. THE resource needed.
What I like about Robert is the unbiased way he delivers advices with first hand experience.
Author Unleashed is much more than I expected. I read his other book about Amazon ads and I was blown away. This book is no different, packed with useful advices and a funny, clever way to deliver them.
Buy Author Unleashed if you are serious about self-publishing.
What a book! 119 pages of solid gold! Rob Ryan not only gives you all the advice and hard truths, he does it in a warm and fun way. I appreciated his encouragement for the reader to Google everything he writes about for verification. To quote Rob himself: "Keep digging for the truth!"
An excellent guide, not only to better navigate the world of Amazon as an indie author, but also because it is full of insight and motivational guidance. There are tips you won't find elsewhere, and most importantly, the information is expertly presented. It does not solve problems, but it helps to identify and solve them. A book that teaches you how to dig deep.
There is so much information packed into 119 pages. I'm going to have to read it again (and not just the things I highlighted).
Ryan seems to know what he's writing about, and he encourages the reader throughout to not take everything he says as gospel. He also lists several other sources that he recommends and ones he advises you to steer clear of.
Plenty of really useful tips and advice for anyone hoping to make a success of self publishing, but more than that Robert's great skill is in getting you to change your mindset and question everything. Highly recommended.
Lots of well-presented material, by someone who is actually making a living selling indie novels. It goes well with Nicholas Erik's book: The Ultimate Guide to Book Marketing.
This is an excellent read but I wouldn't recommend as a start for a new writer. Because (in my mind) you need to have made mistakes to understand why this book is so right.
As the writer says, dig deeper. And to dig deeper, you need to have a starting point.
I loved this. Entertaining, informative, and inspirational. I especially enjoyed Chapter 15 - A Candid Appraisal of Indie Resources...classic! And I love the last chapter to plug his facebook group. I've joined of course.
I came back to this book after reading the Amazon Ads book (also excellent). I’m glad I did. This really is an excellent intro to Indie publishing and gives you the correct mindset you need for moving forward.
I know the subtitle says "advanced," but this it's more intermediate because he covers a lot of topics without going too deep. It's a good primer that you should read and take notes on all the topics you'll need to study more to become a successful indie author.
Great insights from someone who has spent the time conducting meticulous research. This is the stuff you want to know before you even begin your writing journey.
