Opposites ignite in this sizzling, heartfelt, and irresistibly fun reverse age-gap romance from USA Today bestselling author Leslie Pike.
Luca Dragoni has always been larger than life—charming, confident, and a little too sure of himself. Back in high school, he was the dreamer with his head in the clouds, hopelessly infatuated with Caroline Watson, the poised and untouchable queen of his teenage fantasies. Two years older and worlds apart, she was everything he wasn’t: grounded, serious, and achingly out of reach.
A decade later, fate brings them together again—this time in the sun-drenched streets of Rome. Luca is no longer the boy she once knew; he’s a man who lives life unapologetically, chasing freedom, passion, and every thrill that comes his way.
Caroline, now a woman shaped by life’s hardships, is still the loyal, kind soul he remembers, but her feet are firmly planted on the ground, and her heart is guarded because of the scars from her past.
When their worlds collide, sparks fly. Luca’s carefree spirit clashes with Caroline’s practicality, but the magnetic pull between them is electric. He’s determined to show her that life is more than just survival, while she challenges him to grow up and find purpose.
Can two people with such different outlooks on life find a way to make love last? Or is their passionate connection destined to be temporary?
The Book of Love is a sweet, feel-good romance about fate, second chances, and the kind of love that sneaks up on you. Luca falls for Caroline when they’re young, even though she has no idea. Fast forward ten years, and fate gives him another shot when they randomly cross paths in Italy. This time, he’s determined to prove he’s the man for her, and their love story unfolds in the best way.
I adored this story because it was simple, heartfelt, and just easy to fall into. Joe Arden as Luca was absolute perfection. He’s charming, enigmatic, and you can’t help but root for him from the start. And in true Joe fashion, he embodies Luca’s quirks effortlessly! His Italian accent is smooth, natural, and never overdone. Maxine Mitchell, as always, nails it as Caroline. She brings so much depth to her, making you feel every bit of her bruised and jaded heart. Watching Caroline open up and find love again was beautiful.
I love dual narration because it gives the actors a chance to fully play both characters, and when you have two of the best in the business, it just works. Joe and Maxine bring so much emotion and nuance to their performances, making Luca and Caroline’s journey even more immersive.
My only small gripe? There were a few moments in their backstory that felt like a Chekhov’s gun - plot elements introduced but never fully explored. Maybe they will be addressed in future books, but it left me wanting a bit more closure. That said, it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed this book. Leslie Pike writes such wonderful characters, and I can’t wait to see where she takes this series next!

Someone take me to Italy please! What a fun adventure to go on with Leslie Pike’s beautiful writing and Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden narrating. Since they were 15 Luca has crushed on Caroline but as life moves quickly nothing came of the school boy crush, but 10 years later when Luca hears a familiar voice in his uncles? hat shop, it’s the beautiful Caroline all grown up. Hesitant on the re connection Caroline’s walls are up high, but slowly Luca pushes his way into her heart and from that moment on, nothing else matters. This was such a sweet story, with so many beautiful tender family moments between both characters, something I love about Leslie’s writing is the joy she brings out of the families. Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden were so fun to listen to with their Italian accents, I highly enjoyed this dual narration for the fact that we got to experience both Joe and Maxine’s range with the accents. Today is a beautiful sunny day where I live and this book was the exact vibe I needed, I am jumping right into the next book, The Adventure as I am not ready to leave Italy.
Thank you Lara for the opportunity to listen and review.
This book had no right being this adorable! Joe Arden as an Italian was 🔥 and Maxine did so good portraying Caroline! New love and old love! I really liked this book!
This book is about Luca and Caroline. The knew each other in HS, he had a major crush and she had a controlling boyfriend. Ten years later they run into each other again on her vacation in Italy that he and his family had moved back to.
Their relationship had some bumps to overcome as Caroline had some trust issues from bad relationships and some bad experiences she saw first hand in her parent’s marriage.
Luca came back into her life with a personality as big as life and helped her and her parents heal from their past issues.
This story was so beautiful 🥰
This beautiful book was brought to life by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell both of whom are so talented at their craft!

The Book of Love Love in Italy, Book 1 By: Leslie Pike Narrated by: Joe Arden, Maxine Mitchell
Leslie Pike pens another fabulous novel, a heartwarming romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This first book of the “Love in Italy’ series is Luca Dragoni’s and Caroline Watson’s story and it is a romance that took years in the making, starting with Luca’s crush on her while in high school. Luca missed his chance with her in high school and they do not reconnect until ten years later, while Caroline was vacationing in Italy. Both grew more into their own now that they are in their twenties, though in Luca’s father’s eyes, he still had a way to go, especially with choosing a career in the family business. Caroline had put her life on hold to help take care of her mother, who suffered from strokes. She is also not interested in any romantic relationship, but Luca is determined to win over her heart by wooing her and then not giving up on her. There is so much to love about this book, a multilayered story with a lot of heart and charm. Speaking of charm, Luca’s charm will put a smile on your face and warm your heart, and what he does for Caroline’s parents is amazing. There is never a dull moment in this book, and the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Leslie Pike, thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell deliver an outstanding performance portraying these characters, humanizing them and bringing them to life. I loved how they owned their roles, giving each a voice that was fitting, accents and all, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Arden nailed it as Luca, showcasing his charming personality perfectly, and his Italian accent was superb. Maxine was just as amazing in Caroline’s role, also showcasing all aspects of her personality, from her strengths and to her vulnerabilities, also nailing it with the Italian accent. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the side and secondary characters. As always, their pacing and tone are just right for the story and they capture all the characters’ emotions and have you feeling each one. These two entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to.
I was not sure what to expect going into this book, but I ended up falling in love with Luca and Caroline's story. There were so many aspects of this story that I enjoyed, and it had me hooked from beginning to end! This book was everything that I love about the romance genre - the sweetest redemptive love story, sassy side characters, a swoon-worthy male lead, and a healthy dose of delicious spice.
Luca and Caroline first met in high school, when she was in a relationship. When they cross paths again 10 years later, both are single and sparks begin to fly. I liked that when they met up again, even after 10 years had gone by, it was like no time had passed. Luca had become more free spirited, and Caroline the opposite - she had become a bit hardened by life and her circumstances.
The Italian setting was described so beautifully by Leslie's words, it was easy to picture the scenery. Her descriptive writing was really lovely and painted very vivid pictures in my mind whilst listening. The cast of characters also included a boisterous and overbearing Italian family, which was a fun dynamic to hear played out. One of my favorite parts was the love story within a love story...two other adults end up finding their way back to each other and rekindling what they once had.
Maxine and Joe are such a dynamic duo - they play well off of each other, even in dual narration. It took me a bit to get used to the accent, but I think that they both did a fantastic job maintaining it throughout.
Thank you to Blue Nose Audio for the opportunity to review this audiobook.
When folks ask me why I will always recommend Maxine Mitchell & Joe Arden as voice actors, it’s books like this that hold the argument every time. This story is told in dual narration, a style in which both actors shine. The book length is under 7 hours, and I was able to start and finish it within a day and a half. I didn’t want to walk away from Caroline and Luca!
Maxine is brilliant as Caroline. There is a sense that Caroline has been hurt, feels dejected and does not see a life full of love in the cards for herself. And then she runs into Luca and the old chemistry that might have bubbled between them 10 years ago bubbles to a full, rolling boil. Maxine’s choices as Caroline feel so lived in; she has the perfect voice for this character.
Naturally, Maxine is authentic and emotional as an FMC who has lived through some emotional damage. Her male Italian voice? SWOONWORTHY. She could’ve easily delivered the entirety of this book in solo narration.
And Joe Arden as Luca? Shoot, what rich and enveloping accent work he delivers in this story. Luca comes across as an easygoing guy who, once he sees Caroline again, knows he has to have her. He is persistent and Joe gives him so much charm that it is no wonder Caroline finds him irresistible. Joe’s Luca had me feeling the love and adoration that Luca effortlessly holds in his heart for Caroline. Italian accented Joe is a delicious treat.
I really enjoyed the journey of this story. The path to a happily ever after speaks to the endurance of love, soulmates, and how fate has a funny way of bringing what we need back to us again.
The Book of Love Love in Italy #1 By Leslie Pike Narrated by Maxine Mitchell, Joe Arden
There is something about Leslie Pike's writing that draws me in. Her characters are so easy to relate to and fall in love with. This one follows Caroline & Luca. She is several years older than him and in high school she had a boyfriend. Yes, Luca noticed her, but as the under classman, he knew he had no chance. Jump forward ten years, and life is now different. Seeing her now, he is going to take the chance. But will he win her heart? These two are a bit of opposites attract with a small reverse age gap! I love it! Luca is a free spirit, lives for today and knows that he needs to help Caroline put a little bit of that feeling into her own life. It's not easy for her, as she only knows the regiment. At the same time, the enamored Luca gets some of her structure, helping him to mature into the man he is destined to be. This he falls first romance is one that won my heart and I enjoyed it.
Bringing it to life is Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden. They are one of my favorite narration teams, as their personal chemistry translates right into their characters. Each nuance is true to form and it's easy to feel all the emotions the characters go through. It's a fabulous performance that should not be missed.
If you love a romance that feels like a warm hug with just the right amount of emotional pull, The Book of Love by Leslie Pike is a must-listen. This audiobook delivers everything you’d want—great storytelling, engaging characters, and top-notch narration that brings it all to life.
First off, let’s talk about the narrators. Joe and Maxine absolutely nail it. Their voices fit the characters so well that it feels like you're right there in the story with them. Maxine's delivery is smooth and heartfelt, making the heroine incredibly relatable, while Joe brings this rich depth to the hero that makes him even more swoon-worthy. Together, they make the chemistry between the characters feel real.
The story itself? A perfect mix of romance, humor, and emotion. Leslie Pike has this way of writing that makes you care about the characters from the start. The dialogue feels natural, the emotions hit just right, and there are moments that genuinely made me smile (and maybe tear up a little).
If you're in the mood for a well-paced, beautifully narrated love story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end, The Book of Love is absolutely worth your time. Grab your headphones, press play, and enjoy the ride!
🇮🇹Grab your passports, my friends! We are crossing the ocean! 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆 book 1 was just what I wanted it to be! It captivated me, it made me fall in love with the characters, it gave me all the feels! 𝙻𝚎𝚜𝚕𝚒𝚎 𝙿𝚒𝚔𝚎 is truly a talented author!
✈️ I absolutely loved Luca & Caroline. She's older, and he crushed on her, hard, in their teen years. I loved watching them reconnect years later. They are complete opposites, but together, their chemistry was explosive! Watching as Luca fell for Caroline while she was in Rome.....it made me melt! He pecked away at the walls she erected, and when he broke through? Can we say 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨!? 🎤 Queen 𝑀𝑎𝑥𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑀𝑖𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑙 brought her epicness to the story as she navigated Caroline's character. I felt all that Caroline felt while listening to 𝑀𝑎𝑥𝑖𝑛𝑒! And, wowzers! Mr. 𝐽𝑜𝑒 𝐴𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑛 brought it with Luca! His voice is phenomenal & paired fantastically well with 𝑀𝑎𝑥𝑖𝑛𝑒'𝑠. They brought the heat, they brought the banter, they brought epicness! These two are my absolute favorite narrating duo and did epically, once again! ❤️🔥 A gripping vacation romance full of heart, emotions & characters that stole my heart, 𝙻𝚎𝚜𝚕𝚒𝚎 𝙿𝚒𝚔𝚎 delivers us a beautiful story line! I felt like I was right there in Italy with these wonderful characters, watching my friends fall in love. I absolutely can't wait to listen to the next book in this series!
🎧 Format: Audiobook 🎙️ Narrators: Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden
✍️ Audiobook Review I’ve read several of Leslie Pike’s books now, and each time, I become more and more smitten. Listening to this audiobook, it kept a blush on my face and lots of snickers and giggles followed. Did he just say, “Barry, the butthole.” 😂 Told in DUAL narration by Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden; with these two, you know it’s going to be a banger! Their accents, voice chemistry and humor, set an entertaining vibe for a great romcom. An incredible performance to an incredible love story. ❤️
The Book of Love takes us on a journey of two inexperienced teens, Luca and Caroline, and into an unkind adulthood. We travel from Italy to America and back again with humor, spice, and a love greater than time. The love Luca had for Caroline was swoon worthy and all consuming. His carefree outlook on life was the perfect balance to her uptight, tough exterior (resting bitch face and all). The banter and charm were absolute perfection while the two families finding peace and forgiveness brought everything together. I loved this storyline and the characters, especially Nonna 😏 … plus the real-life issues that life can throw our way. I cannot wait to jump into book two.
🗣️ “All I know of love, is how to live without it…”
The Book of Love is a heartfelt, sizzling romance. Luca Dragoni has been attracted to Caroline Watson all through school, but she was two years older and with someone else. Now a decade later, they accidentally run into each other a world away, in Rome. Caroline is more beautiful an to Luca, and he is determined to make her finally fall for him. Caroline is attracted to the man that Luca has become, and enjoys his easy charm. But he radiates romance and possibilities, and her life has her grounded and made her disenchanted with a forever love. Luca is up for the challenge to make her see that he is worth taking a chance on and her heart is safe with him. But when she has to return to the states to care for her mom, will that be the end of their fiery romance? This was such a sweet and swoony romance! I really fell hard for both Luca and Caroline. They are both so different and live in different worlds but yet they fit so perfectly together. Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden were so perfectly cast to narrate this fun and heartwarming romance. They completely captured these characters and made me feel all the hope, heartbreak, love, and passion they possessed. They are so easy to listen to and they made this romance even more captivating and delightful.
Una Meia, this sexy italian popsicle of a man called Luca Dragoni has knocked my socks off with his handsome, charming accent, so brilliantly done by Joe Arden. But sadly he's besotted by older Caroline Watson, whose heart is dead stone. Until the Positano's paradise vibe starts to thaw her. The food, the wine, the sand, the Mediterranean and sexy as sin Luca make her melt like olive oil. What a way to come back to life, *sigh* Maxine matches tone to tone with Joe in narration. Addictive tale of passion that heals and revives 5 stars for crackling electricity Follow me on: Email🌻 Bookbub 🌻 Twitter🌻 Instagram🌻 Blog🌻 Facebook🌻 Amazon 🌻
🎧 This is a darling love story. It’s a young love that evolves into real love. Luca and Caroline just had to wait for the right timing.
It’s not just romantic love we get within the pages, but familial love. It’s a nice way to show that love of family, culture and traditions set the foundations for a solid life. This story also showcases that forgiveness is a key ingredient in true happiness.
I did giggle a lot listening to Lucas’ inner dialogue and machismo. There were times he sounded so Italian and other times he sounded so hilarious. I appreciated the dynamic of opposites attract and it was spot on with this love story.
If there was one little thing that left me a bit disgruntled, it was that I wanted some justice for the great injustice committed against Caroline. I don’t want to give a spoiler, and it was just briefly mentioned, however it was too important to leave just hanging.
Lastly, does it ever get any better than listening to the Queen and King of voice acting? No it really doesn’t! Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden are joy to my ears.
The Book of Love is the first book in the Love in Italy series. I loved getting to start the book when they were teens. Luca was in clove with Caroline when he was 15 and she was 17. He knew he never had a chance at that time. He was just an underclassmen and hadn’t grown into his body yet. Now ten years have gone by. Caroline has a hard time trusting men. She has seen the distance and hardship her parents went through. Caroline’s father was a flirty Italian man that was not always loyal. Now seeing Luca by chance she is having a hard time resisting him. She also is having trouble trusting him too. Slowly Luca proves not all Italian flirty men stray from their women and also men can change. Luca’s spirit even brings Caroline’s parents back into love with each other.
Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden did a great job narrating this book.
Leslie wrote a delightful story of second chance love, not only for the main characters Luca and Caroline, but for Caroline's parents as well. Starting the story with a flashback of Luca and Caroline from high school engaged me from the start. When Luca and Caroline run into each other years later and discover the spark is still there brings hope and light. There were so many side characters that I simply could not get enough of as the story progressed. Luca's grandmothers were fantastic, and I absolutely loved his twin brother Fig. I really enjoyed how much of the story focused on both Caroline's and Luca's families.
The audio was delightful, although there seemed to be a slight disconnect between how heavy of an Italian accent the characters should have. Maxine Mitchell truly shines and brings such emotion to her performance. Joe Arden really helped convey Luca's light-hearted nature. As always, they are a dynamic duo, and bring a depth to story that I appreciated.
Luca Dragoni is one funny and determined man i tell you. When he bumps into his crush after 10 years, all bets are off. He was shy when they were in school together, but the shy boy has grown up and this man goes after what he wants and boy of boy did he want her. Caroline never knew he had a crush on her, but she's been burned and giving it to something more is out of the question, or so she thinks.
Their romance is sweet and chemistry, together with the banter is off the charts. Luca has a way to unwind her and i think she was that anchor he needed to not lose sight of what's important.
This story had me LOL hard a times but also felt the struggle it cost Caroline to put her trust in someone else yet again. But love has a way of making you see that happiness is easily achieved if you let it happen.

I listened to the audio. The narrators did a good job I just wasn't a fan of the female narrators voice as Luca. Each narrator took on chapters and did the characters voices. I did like the male narrators portrayal of the Luca.
I thought this was a cute and funny story. Luca had a crush on Caroline in high school but she had a boyfriend. Years later he runs into her and still finds out he has feelings for her and while she is on vacation in his hometown Italy he convinces her to spend her remaining time with him. Love these two especially Luca as he struggles with what he think is normal behavior even though Caroline doesn't. Then there is his family especially the great grandma who doesn't like anyone even her own family.
I received a copy and listened to it through Bookfunnel.
What a sweet, fun second chance romance. Luca and Caroline knew each other when they were young, with Luca developing a crush but timing was wrong. Fast forward 10 years and they meet each other again. This time, Luca is ready to fight and he makes readers (And listeners!) swoon with his actions. Luca is a great character and I rooted for him throughout to get past Caroline's walls, high as they were. Well paced, great character development and also, characters that drew the readers in, I really enjoyed the story. And having Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell bring this story to life was auditory magic. I have always been fans of these narrators and this is another example why- passion throughout and they sounded like they were having fun bringing the story to life.
This is the first book in a series and this is Luca and Caroline’s story. In high school Luca was infatuated by Caroline, and now a decade later, they are destined to cross paths again in Italy. Caroline is wary after being burnt in the past, and Luca is determined to convince her that he is the man for her. This is a well written story which is easy to read, with opposites attract, a reverse age gap, determination, taking chances, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, sweet, heartwarming, and compelling page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
What a Beautiful Story! Audiobook Review 🎧 This was such a heartwarming, feel good romance! Luca and Caroline were friends in High School when Luca had a crush on her. Fast forward many years later and they meet up again when they both are single and enjoying Italy. Luca is so much fun and Caroline is a bit reserved, but Luca slowly tries to get her to let loose and see what can happen. Luca is fun and sweet and you can’t help but fall in love with him. I also loved Luca’s Italian family! The narration by Joe and Maxine was so awesome! They are wonderful narrators together and made the book really fun to listen to. This is a must-listen book!
Luca can't believe his luck when his childhood crush turns up in Italy. He is determined to show her that he is worth taking a chance. Life hasn't been kind to Caroline and she doesn't believe in fairy tales. Luca wants to prove that he isn't just a partying, playboy.
Loved these two. They are sweet and fun. Luca's Nonna is fabulous and she is definitely a fun addition to the story. I love that the author lets us travel the world in her stories. She writes fun, flirty characters that you can't help but love. Love that Leslie gives us families that aren't perfect but their love is strong. Looking forward to her next creation.
Leslie Pike has become a favorite author of mine. I adored this book. Luca and Caroline's relationship was a beautiful build-up of childhood crushes and friendship. Luca stole my heart from the moment we meet him in the story and I loved Caroline and her love for her family especially her mom who had been through so much and how forgiving she was for her fathers past mistakes.
The audiobook was done in duet style featuring Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden. I loved the accents. Maxine had me laughing so hard at one point in the book. I loved how she embraced Luca's accent in Caroline's chapters. I felt Joe was very consistent with his accent throughout the book.
I loved this book. I went in totally blind and without ever having read this author before and I loved it! The story was so sweet and wholesome with the FMC having some issues to deal with. The MMC patiently waited for her to figure them out and their relationship was stronger for it. I loved the story, the writing, the relationship, the HEA with no third act breakup. The audio was perfection as Joe and Maxine ALWAYS deliver. They got the accents perfect and Maxine’s male voice is so good! I highly recommend this book for a light, sweet, sexy romance
the story of 2 high school friends who reconnect as adults and explore a relationship with each other... Luca is younger is charming, strong and determined to show Caroline that she can trust and enjoy his company... She was traumatized by an ex... She is damaged and reserved .. He works his hardest to break down her walls one at time ...
the audio w JOE ARDEN as Luca and MAXINE MITCHELL as Caroline was absolutely perfect. tbey have such a chemistry in your earbuds and do an amazing job bringing their story to life .
The book of love (Leslie Pike) I love everything I have heard from Leslie Pike and this is no different. I fall in love with all her characters and their love stories. Very low angst (which I love) and even without the angst it completely held my attention. I have already listened twice and working on a third time. I hope all these main characters get their own book. The narration is great, I love everything about it. There is even an Italian accent and I think it’s great too. I definitely recommend anything by Leslie Pike.
Luca and Caroline knew each other from school and had different things going on then. He's always had a crush on her, but she was with someone else, so they could only be friends. Now years later they run into each other it's Luca's turn to show her how much he cares about her. And that even with their age difference they can have a life together. I loved watching their journey unfold. And how sometimes you just need a little push in the right direction. When it's time for her to go home will he go with her? Or will she stay and fight? I loved this story.
Sweet with a side of Italian smexy. Luca is passionate and carefree, Caroline is grounded and practical, they are the opposite of each other but the chemistry between them after a decade apart is strong and sizzling. Luca was incredibly careful with Caroline and made her see how cared for she deserves to be, Caroline was far too patient with Luca and showed him that we all need a purpose. Their life together will be a fun mixture of how to live life to the fullest and wanting more from and for yourself. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell voiced Luca and Caroline brilliantly.
ALC Review The Book of Love by Leslie Pike Narrators: Joe Arden, Maxine Mitchell ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Luca and Caroline were high school classmates. Found each other 10 years after graduation in completely different aspects of life. This is a story of new love and old love.
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell did a fantastic job on this one. They are both masters to their crafts!
3.5⭐️,5⭐️ narration As always, Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden were utter perfection as Caroline and Luca. I love how they perform their books; their performances are so full of life, love, and emotion. They never fail to pull me into the story and fully make me fall in love. This story was very cute and sweet. I enjoyed that Luca was pining for so long and did everything in his power to get Caroline’s attention. He helped her become confident in herself, and that was precious!
