100 Things to Do in Cincinnati Before You Die
Cincinnati has been an important, intriguing city since its founding in 1788. One of Americas largest metropolises in the 19th century, it was known as the Gateway to the West. We have recently returned from a trip to Cincinnati aka Cincy and this is one of the travel books we took with us. Here are the things we sampled or experienced, which were included in this book:
1. Ice cream at Graeter's - I chose their Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, which is their original flavor and Oprah Winfrey's favorite, and Midnight Snack, which was truly delicious with Malt flavored ice-cream with chocolate covered pretzels, mini peanut butter cups, and brownies mixed in!
2. We ate a delicious meal (it was our last before heading home) at Taste of Belgium.
3. We crossed the bridge into Newport, Kentucky to eat pasta and cannoli that was to die for delicious at Pompilio's restaurant, which is famous for a scene from the movie, Rain Man (1988).
4. We were wowed by performances of the Cincinnati Ballet, Bold Moves 1 and Bold Moves 2.
5. We visited Fountain Square.
6. We explored and found treasures at Cincinnati Art Museum. "General admission to the museum, located in Eden Park not far from Downtown, is always free, thanks to an endowment by local philanthropists."
7. We met Fiona the celebrity hippo at Cincinnati Zoo. She was born prematurely in 2017 and raised by the community. Later, she was big enough to be reunited with her parents. "She weighed 26 pounds at birth; by age 2 she was close to 1,000 pounds."
8. We had a blast at the Krohn Conservatory where we enjoyed the Butterfly Show, the palms, tropical and desert environments.
9. The Saint Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, Kentucky was truly beautiful with enormous stained glass windows.
10. We visited the 200 year old home to the Taft Museum of Art where I marveled at so many different styles of drapes in one home and Simon marveled at the pristine and colorful artifacts.
11. We walked across the Ohio River on the Roebling Suspension Bridge. "Some call it the "Singing Bridge" because of the humming sound from vehicles' tires running across the metal-grate deck."
12. We "gaze[d] at murals on walls all over town." There is amazing art all over the place. One that deserves a special mention is: ""Martha, The Last Carrier Pigeon (1914)" which replicates naturalist artist John Ruthven's sweeping portrait of the final survivor of an extinct species (she lived out her final days at the Cincinnati Zoo)."
13. We walked across a bridge from Cincinnati, Ohio to Newport, Kentucky & discovered the World Peace Bell. It is one of 22 Peace Bells around the world. It was made in France & arrived in the port of New Orleans, Louisiana in time for their July 4th celebration in 1999. Then, it was transported by barge up the Mississippi & Ohio rivers until it reached N. Kentucky. It was rung for the 1st time in the U.S.A. on 1/1/2000 at midnight & was heard about 25 miles away. The bell is rung once per day at 11:55am.
14. The Behringer-Crawford Museum is set in the lovely Devou Park in Covington, Kentucky. We so enjoyed the peaceful surroundings there. The museum celebrates those who "have contributed to the preservation and celebration of regional [Northern Kentucky] history, art and culture." Each of the 4 levels highlights a different form of transportation. I enjoyed the special exhibit on fashion.
15. Historic Findlay Market was so good we visited twice! "It's all about wandering and savoring."

Most of these places I have been to but there were a few I had not even heard of! I guess I can't die just yet. I gotta make it to Arnold's, Cincinnati's oldest bar!

This is possibly a good roundup of things to do and see in Cincinatti, Ohio. I don't know if the recommendations are good ones, but I'll know once I visit there in late February or early March. I like the brief descriptions of the places told in a cute way. My list of things to see and do from this book is probably too long for the amount of time I will have. :-)

The title is a bit dramatic (lol), but I think this book is a good resource. I like the format, which keeps each place/attraction/activity to one page and gives the address, website, and phone number. Despite living in the greater Cincinnati area all of my life, I was able to find some fresh ideas for things to do mixed in with those that are more well known.

Whether you live in the city or visit Cincinnati, this is a great list of things to do in this region. It is easy to read. Each item is concisely described on a separate page. Some of the items are easy to accomplish as they have multiple locations. Examples are Graeter's Ice Cream or Cincinnati style chilly. Others will take a dedicated trip such as the Cincinnati Zoo. There are many wonderful sites and activities to partake in.
