Book 3 in the Home in Carson series. Ridge is a recently divorced dedicated fire fighter who suddenly finds himself being a single father. He packs up his apartment and moves to his Aunt and Uncles home town where he use to spend his summers. River has paced up herself and her grandmother and they are moving to the same small town. When these two new neighbors meet the chemistry is instant. Do they have to much emotional baggage to have a relationship? Can this work? River and Ridge form not only a great romantic bond but a very supportive friendship bond. This was a great quick read.

This story from start to end was emotionally gripping! The angst in the beginning and the lingering unknown kept me on the edge of my seat and I just wanted more!

Harless outdid herself with this story and I love that I got to go “home” to Carson again! Once you experience this town you never want to leave! The people and the atmosphere of this crazy, cozy town is as equally as amazing as the characters residing in it and the two new residents have now found their place in the town and in my heart!

Ridge's move to be near his Uncle and Aunt, to start over and raise his daughter, is the best decision he ever made once he meets his beautiful new neighbor, River. River's moved to Carson to start over, too, and when her gorgeous neighbor helps her carry her things in out of the rain, she's instantly attracted. And even more so when she meets his adorable baby daughter. But is Ridge willing to put River first and make her a priority? She's not sure, so a casual arrangement will have to suffice for now.

Ridge is starting to realize just how important River is to him when something happens that puts his feelings (and hers) in the front of their minds. Is an epiphany for both of them enough to make casual into more?

This is a sweet, sexy story with a bit of suspense thrown in. I really liked it, and River and Ridge along with baby Delilah. I can tell there's a whole world already in this story and can't wait to read more about the people who live there.

This book is part of the Everyday Heroes World series and is the third in the collection. This small town, single dad romance book is a great read that I really enjoyed reading and this authors style of writing is awesome.

Ridge is a great guy and is a single father that is trying so hard to do the right thing by everyone and is trying to start a fresh with his daughter in this town. Ridge is a firefighter and this is his dream job what he has always wanted to be.
River is such a beautiful, sweet caring woman that will do anything for the people she loves and she has also had a time of it herself. When these two meet something passes between them and they were always meant to be.

I loved the way that this author has written these characters in this small town and this book is a real page turner that will have your heart aching at times and will take you on an emotional roller coaster. They both have amazing chemistry together and I was totally rooting for them both, they were truly great together and the reader will love them both. This story flows beautifully and is a great read that the reader can connect easily to and I highly recommend it and I cant wait to see what this author writes in the future. This book is a real page turner that you will love.

Welcome back to Carson. Renee Harless has brought us back to the small town we love with the family that we love.

Ridge is getting a fresh start in this small town with his daughter Delilah, and River is also looking for a fresh start. What starts as an act of neighborly kindness, turns into much more. But with all of Renee’s stories things are never as perfect as they seem.

This story has all the things you need, and it’s a great addition to the KB World. So pick this one up and head back to Carson, you will be glad you did!

* * I HAD BEEN GIVEN AN ADVANCED READERS COPY IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW * *

This is the first book by Renee Harless that I have read and it was a very soft and sweet read. I love there was a mystery going on in the background, but the main focus was the relationship growing between River and Ridge.

I loved how sweet and soft River is and how she slowly grew in her independence after losing her rock in her grandma. I wish there was a bit more about her and how their relationship was before she got sick and they moved.

I love how Ridge is devoted to his daughter even before she came to live with him full time. the circumstances of that made for great questions you wanted answered so you wanted to keep reading to see if your guesses were right.

The main thing I love about single parent romances is the relationship between the potentials love interest and the child. Delilah and River are two peas in a pod and seeing how she falls for as much as she does Ridge was amazing.

I am giving this a 3 1/2 to 4 star review, mainly because there was more connection to her own series in Carson than the everyday hero and because I had to read any of them, even though you didn't really need to, it is truly a stand alone. But that is a personal preference to read all in a series whether they are stand alone or not. I like to know the characters and if there is a way to get in-depth I will.

I do recommend and wish you would read all her books as well as all the books in Everyday Hero Series.

"She was on fire an only knew of one way to extinguish the burn. She needed him mor than she needed her next breath."

Ok Ladies (or Gents), who doesn't want a hot fireman living across the street from you? Hmm? I know I wouldn't mind one bit!

So, Ridge leaves his life in California to move to Carson, NC where he has a multitude of cousins after his ex-wife abandons their infant daughter on his doorstep. River, leaves her home in Asheville, NC to move to Carson for a new job and and so that her grandmother can be moved to the nice assisted living facility there.

It's not long before the sparks start flying between the neighbors, and while they both agree they should keep it casual because of his line of work and erratic hours, that never really works out in a romance book, does it? Try as they might, they can't deny that what they have between them is anything but casual. KABOOM!

Throw in some mysterious letters delivered to both their houses, and a criminal element lurking in the shadows into the mix, and you've got a great story!!

It was great to see Grady and Dylan from Combust make an appearance too!!

Check out the Every Day Heros World!!

I received an arc of this book in return for an honest review.
This is a good story of Ridge a single Dad and firefighter who leaves California for Carson to start a new life with his little girl Delilah. Here, he meets River, a petite beautiful woman who lives across the road. The story is well thought out and touches subjects such as drug abuse and dementia. The characters had depth and I enjoyed the chemistry between Ridge and River a lot. All in all a good read with romance, angst and a little steam.

Firefighter plus a single dad romance? Sign me up. I was captivated from the first page to the last.

I loved Ridge & River’s journey beyond words. Ridge was doing his best for his daughter which is beyond swoon worthy. And when River came into the picture, she was exactly what Ridge didn’t know he needed in his life.

Behind The Flame was the first book that I have read by Renee Harless and it definitely won’t be the last! I will be for sure going back and reading the first two books in Home in Carson series.

Behind the Flame by Renee Harless is another addition to KB's Everyday Heroes World. After finding his daughter in his doorstep, single father and firefighter Ridge, moves to the small town of Carson. At the same time, River and her grandmother also relocate to Carson because her grandmother's deteriorating health. This book was good from beginning to end. The suspense worked perfectly in this book and I enjoyed this book so much. I can't wait to read more.

This book gave me all the feels! Who doesn’t love a hot fireman who’s also a single dad?! Ridge finds himself suddenly alone with a baby across country from his family. He decides to move back to be closer to family to help raise his daughter. He meets River when he moves to town and the rest is literary gold!

Wow. Brilliant. I have loved all the books related to Carson and this one was no different. It gripped me from the start and I desperately didn't want it to end. I loved the storyline and the characters so much. I was so disappointed when it finished, I could have happily read another book about them and not got bored. I can't wait for more Carson books.

I’m in love with Ridge and River. Delilah will steal your heart like she stole mine. I started this story and next thing I knew a few hours passed and I was the end. The author knows how to mix romance and suspense, making you lose all track of time with her words. Plus I loved revisiting with some of my other favorite characters while meeting new ones. Behind the Flames is great addition to the Everyday Hero’s world and one you won’t want to miss.

Behind The Flame intertwines seamlessly into the Everyday Hero World and takes you along a journey of second chances. Ridge and River's story is one that is packed with suspense, intrigue and a touch of danger. These two will win your heart easily along with the help of Delilah. Their story is passionate, captivating and gives just enough heat to produce a flame.

Ridge was going crazy after his forced leave after a wild fire had him an his team surrounded by flames. One day he came back from breakfast he saw his little girl strapped into her carrier with a note from his ex wife saying she wanted to live her life .Signing over custody. So he packed up an moved back to the small-town his aunt and uncle lived at.River moved to a small town because she found an assisted living home for her grandmother who has dementia. Her grandparents raised her in the home they had to sell or lose it.So off she went when she pulled up she was trying to juggle her bags full of groceries. A guy said hi but didn't offer help. She could believe the cute cottage she was now living in.When she went to unload groceries a few days later it was raining the paper bags she lifted tore an all the groceries spilling a man appeared out of nowhere loading things in his sweatshirt as he walked in an a sound went off he dropped the groceries into the sink an took off before she had a chance to thank him.The next day she baked chocolate chip cookies an walked across the street an took them to the gorgeous man who opened the door with a beautiful girl in his arms.she got lots in his eyes finally giving him the cookies almost falling off the steps he grabbed her an pulled her up against his body but then let her go.This is the kind of story that will keep you on the edge of your seat an the characters are captivating. The chemistry between Ridge and River is smoking hot off the charts .Will they give into their chemistry? Will their rules about casual be changing? There are so many twists an turns to this story that you will be riveted until the very last page.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes an you can feel their emotions an their pain.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

I want to start out by saying that I have a weakness for yummy firemen, and that cover definitely set fire to my drawers. Ridge Connelly has gone through a divorce and has a tiny human girl who he doesn't get to see enough since his job as a firefighter doesn't leave him much spare time. One day when he's coming home, he sees that his daughter is in front of his door, and her mother is gone so he has a big choice to make now since he's a single father. He decides to move to North Carolina to be near his family because he'll need the extra help with the adorable Delilah. River Matthews is moving to North Carolina at the same time (can you say fate?) because her grandmother needs to be placed in a home, and River doesn't want to be far away. It just so happens that these two people end up living next to each other so things are going to take a turn for the sexier. However, River is trying to keep things casual (or is she?) while my yummy fireman is catching feelings. To make this amazing book even better, there's a mystery going one that will come to a dangerous head with some crazy twists. And that's all I'm going to say about that, now it's your turn! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

“You can live without love, but it is not a life worth living. Find the person that fills your heart with the same amount of love that you give.”

This book has many emotions woven throughout. Loss, fear, love, new beginnings, endings, uncertainty, doubt, chemistry and hope.

“She had no reason to trust him and no reason not to, just years and years of past experiences where promises were made and then broken. This one was simple, though. Would she regret allowing him to take her to an unfamiliar area?”

When you’ve always been the giver and decided you are worth more...you want to be appreciated and adored...can you let down your walls...will you get burned again or miss out on your greatest opportunity?

“She was scared. Scared of what had happened the night before. Scared about the emotions she was feeling. And scared about what it meant...”

This book has many emotional subjects in it. Abandonment, illness, stalking, manipulation, recovery, romance...

“She had been kicked down, trampled on throughout her life, and used until she had nothing left to give.”

Looking forward to Coming Alive in Welcome to Carson series where we meet the rest of the Connelly family!

Ridge and River are both starting over, and what better place to do that than in Carson? He is a busy single dad and she is a devoted granddaughter who wants to care for her grandmother in any way possible. They were both looking for a new beginning in the small town of Carson, where you are always welcomed with a kind smile and a hug. However, as with all the Carson books, there is always drama lurking around every corner.

River found the perfect facility that would give her grandmother the loving care that she needed. She hated leaving her there but this quaint, small town seemed like the right place for both of them. River doesn’t trust easily, but the prospect of a new job and a place to live gave her hope for the first time in a while. Ridge was experiencing the same feelings as River about his future. His daughter Delilah, was the love of his life and he would protect her at all costs. Having family in Carson and a new job made him feel that his life was moving in the right direction.

What will happen when Ridge realizes that River is more to him than just his neighbor? Can River find room in her heart for Ridge and Delilah? Will Ridge’s past destroy the blissful future that he has always dreamed about? Renee Harless is an expert at weaving romance with mystery in all of her books and as always I hope that love will come out the winner.

Behind the Flame is my first venture into Renee Harless’s writing. This is a slow paced love story. Harless builds small towns, like I grew up in. So it’s a world I relate to. Both the main characters have just moved to Carson. I don’t feel like the story would work if it was a quicker pace. Small town are a slower living so the pace makes sense and works.

The build up to Ridge and River noticing each other is sweet. The chemistry between them is off the charts once they have their true first meeting (you know the one with swapping names lol). Harless has done a great job with her character.

I enjoyed the suspense she wrote into the story and will gladly admit that for once I couldn’t guess who was involved or why. This, to me, is great as I hate knowing the outcome before the ending. I do wish she had used

If you are looking for a sweet and easy read to pass the time this is definitely a one click.

I give Behind the Flame 5/5!

River moves to Carson when she gets the opportunity to out her grandmother in an amazing care center there.

Ridge grew up coming to Carson every summer to visit his aunt, uncle and cousins.  What better place for the newly single dad to raise his baby girl.

As luck would have it, they both move in on the same street.  Their fateful meeting is full of sparks that neither of them is prepared to deal with.

Ridge has the responsibilities of being a single dad and a firefighter.  River is ready to be selfish for once and wants to be someone's priority.

Can they both get past the reasons they shouldn't be together?

This book is a standalone romance but I would highly recommend reading the Home in Carson, and Welcome to Carson series as well!!

Another great addition to the Everyday Heroes Collection. Ridge and his adorable daughter will steal your heart just ask River they make quick work of grabbing hold of hers. But will she let them keep it? She hasn't had great luck in the love department at any level and the one person she did count on for genuine love she final had to put in a care facility, her grandmother.
So Ridge certainly hopes she'll let them keep it. But he's got a full plate of concerns, starting with, where is his ex-wife and why did she abandon their daughter. Will she just turn up to take her away?? Bet you wanna don't you.
You'll want to read this one. ☺️
It was sweet in all the right place, there were laughs, there was Grady & Dylan, there was plenty of steam. And of course the adorable toddler Delilah.

This story was emotional and very well written it pulled you in from the moment you read the first page. Ridge is a firefighter that decides to move back to his home town after coming home one day to find his baby daughter left on his doorstep. He moves home to be near his aunt and uncle to have his family around him while he figures everything out.

River moves to Carson to do what’s best for her grandmother who raised her. She gains employment at the local daycare. She moves into a little place that her employer has set up for her once she arrived and just happens to be across the way from where Ridge has moved into.

The two of them are both finding their way in their new surroundings and new place they both have hang ups when it comes to relationships and neither want anything of that variety from being burned beforehand.

Overall it’s a good read that provides the feels and I loved the hot firefighter, single dad and the sweet caring takes care of others heroine.

Hot! I've volunteered to review this book for United Indie Book Blog. This is my second time reading one of Renee Harless stories. Behind the Flame is in The Everyday Heroes World series. This is River and Ridge's story. Ridge is firefighter and now is a single dad to a toddler. So, he moves to be closer to his family. River has just moved to Carson, NC. She got a job working in the local daycare center. This book has many emotions from loss, fear, love, new beginnings, endings, uncertainty, doubt, chemistry, and hope. The chemistry between them is off the charts from their first encounter. There were twists and turns were a little unexpected and kept me engaged in the story. This story is a perfect addition to this amazing series and is Ridge and River’s story. Ridge is newly divorced and a dedicated firefighter who will do anything for his little daughter Delilah, and when she is left on his doorstep with a note from her ex to keep her safe, he moves to a small town to start over. River is also new in town seeking a new start and she and Ridge end up as neighbours, and when he needs a sitter, she is there for him. The chemistry between these two is intense, but can they heal and move on together? This is a well written flawless story which is filled with suspense, danger, mystery, emotions, love, and is a sweet fast paced read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

It’s no secret that I have been a fan of all things Carson for quite some time, and I always want more! This one brought more. I was glued to the pages from Page 1 until the End. Ridge and River had me hook, line and sinker. The small town Carson life, single dad, firefighter, the hint of mystery, the thought provoking, superb writing and the in depth character developments never seem to disappoint. I appreciated the way both characters had issues with relationships and that they were so different yet so very alike. I always love to “visit” with the Connelly family, and the oh so familiar town of Carson. This is a perfect addition to the Carson series, and a fantastic part of the Everyday Hero’s world.

This is the latest release from the Everyday Heroes World and it is a slow burn to romance. Ridge is a firefighter which did not afford him time to be with his daughter. However, when his daughter Delilah winds up on his doorstep, his life radically changes which has him relocating to Carson to be closer to his family. River is a woman who is caring for her grandmother when life gives her more than she can bear which leads her to making the uncomfortable decision of moving and placing her grandmother into an assisted living facility. Where does River go to start over…Carson. From the warm, down home small town feels to the underlying sense of something coming, Ms. Harless has written an intriguing storyline that will have any reader under a spell until the final word.
