The Hardaway family is cursed, at least that’s what Nancy Hardaway suspects when their plump young nanny falls dead at the foot of Baby Nora’s crib. As the staff flees and the empty house closes in around her, a mysterious stranger arrives on their doorstep. Will she be the answer to Nancy’s desperate prayers, or will an ancient evil destroy them all?
He Comes in the Night weaves a slow-burn tale across three centuries—from an isolated village nestled deep in the Carpathian Mountains of Eastern Europe, to present-day Boston—in this dark and spellbinding new twist on the classic vampire horror novel.
An engaging and creatively imagined dual tale, in which past funnels toward the present, surface fails to equal substance, nobody is as they seem, and life is facade. Distinctly not your ordinary vampire tale.
I found this book rather boring. Told in alternative chapters are two storylines, one of an Eastern Europe village with a reluctant hero named Bogdan who is hunting an evil spirit from some 300 centuries ago and one of modern day Boston and a high society woman whose husband gets trialled for financial misconduct. There are some deaths happening but they are "just not waking up". There's the connection to Vlad tepes and vampires but without the usual bloodsucking. The whole Bogdan story is rather strange starting from the question 'why him?' and ending with him wandering around without a goal. Nancy, our Boston snob with a heart of stone, doesn't gain any points for maternal behaviour. Both storylines come together in the last 5% of the book and that's where it gets a bit interesting. The end is a bit of a surprise but also out of character.
A new concept. Its like reading 2 stories in one. One today the other of long ago. Until they come together in perfect union. Very easy read and I finished this in 2 days. Excellent read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So this story was really interesting and I liked it. The characters were a hundred percent real. Even if you didn’t want to like the mother she’s relatable. Raising a child is very difficult. There were two different storylines going on. One from the present and one from the past. That said it was still very easy to follow along with the book jumping back and forth like it did. Both storylines are related and very good to read. I gave it four stars only because it was a very slow book for me. It just wasn’t fast enough. I had trouble sticking through. I’m so glad I did finish it though. I liked it a lot!
He Comes In The Night are two stories that inertwine. Nancy and Byron have lost three nannies due to their nightmares. A mysterious stranger appears in the night inquiring about the nanny position. How did she know? When you think it couldn't get any worse Bryon is being investigated by the federal government. Their lives have been turned upside down. Bogdon was the next in line to be sacrificed. A miracle had happened! He is alive! His wife and village were happy. When the priest suggested that it was God's will that Bogdon the Great lived there would no longer be sacrifices. Then people in the village started dying again. Bogdon offered himself as a sacrifice only to be left alive again. Bodies are dropping like flies. The village has become the mob losing their faith in God. They are being led astray by the devil. Mystery, murder and suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
