Difference Trilogy #3

The Difference Between Someday and Forever

Rate this book
The world took everything from us.

As survivors of not only a plane crash, but two other impossible tragedies, we’d more than earned a life of peace. But time and time again, we were shown that fate had no intention of giving that to us.

Remi and I were soulmates. Plain and simple. Our love should have died in the depths of our darkness, but the sun still exists even when it’s not shining.

The secrets of our past threatened to destroy us at every turn, but for Remi, I would never stop fighting for our future.

The world took everything from us.
And we would stop at nothing until we took it all back—forever.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

The fact that it took me three weeks to finish this pretty much says it all.

I adore Aly Martinez and I really enjoyed book one; however, I feel like this whole trilogy should have been one really strong standalone. Book two felt like borderline filler and this one just felt completely unnecessary. In fact, by the time I got to this book, I was bored and felt zero investment in the characters. I skimmed quite a bit just to get it finished.

MY REVIEW AND OTHERS: can also be found on my blog:
➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

After the way the previous book left off I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one especially the scene I'd been eagerly waiting for to unfold, so when we do get to the conclusion of the 'Kidnapping' I kind of expected more in this area, it felt like we'd gone around in circles, I was hoping for more of a bang, I needed her to delve more into his side of things, we know the gist of it, but for me I just needed more, that area felt a wee bit rushed.

Other than that this author definitely knows how to keep us on tenterhooks with each book she gives us and like the gluttons we are we come back for more.

These two were like two lost souls passing each other in the night, never quite coming together, but finally it ended how I wanted and craved it to end, these two pulled at me like no others before them, they were mean't to be together no matter what and I'm so glad they beat the odds.

"You are part of me. Fighting for you is like fighting for my next breath."
The first thing I need to say is how much I loved this trilogy. So much that it took me over a day to write this review, because I feel like there's not enough I can say. And, also, I can't say much anyway, because everyone deserves to enjoy it spoiler-free, just like I did.

Aly Martinez hurts you and breaks you, taking it all away from you until you almost can't take it anymore. But then she gives it all back. And it's masterfully done.

"We're like a kaleidoscope. When all the broken shapes are together, they form the most beautiful whole. Without you, I'm just the pieces."
It's still Bowen and Remi's story. It's still the narrative of everything they've been through, what they're still enduring, and what could be. It's still the emotional rollercoaster that made me keep turning the pages just to know more – because they felt like real people to me.
I can honestly tell you I hated Remi for part of this book. I won't tell you why, but I needed you to know this, because it shows how invested I was. I hated her just as much as I loved Bowen, with all my heart.
There was still a lot of angst. A lot of emotion, a lot of regret, and so much love it will warm your heart. But there was also a lot of healing in these pages. For both the characters, and myself.

"It's not the how, what, when, or where that matter. I know the who. The who will always be you."
The world took everything from them, except their love for each other. It can move mountains. It can do anything. They can do anything.
The final book in this trilogy shows you it was never about the destination for Bowen and Remi. It was the journey that mattered to them, however hard it's been. Because the destination had already been set. The final stop was always going to be them. Forever.

“Maybe that’s what makes us so perfect. We’re like a kaleidoscope. When all the broken shapes are together, they form the most beautiful whole.”

I loved the conclusion of Bowen and Remi's story. I'm so glad we got answers to all the questions I had and I feel like things were resolved perfectly. Bowen is an incredible hero and even though Remi drove me a little crazy at times through the trilogy, it was understandable with all she'd been through. Aly Martinez writes the best twisty and emotional read!

I gotta say this final book was a bit of a let down for me. It wasn't needed in my opinion. The plot twist from book 2 was quickly resolved and it really should've ended there. Instead, this felt like it was dragged into something we didn't need and was a bit boring. I ended up having to skim a lot of pointless parts of the story. I felt really bad for Bowen too. The time he spent chasing Remi and trying to fix her was longer than their actual relationship. The time Remi spent away was unnecessary and didn't seem to do either one of them any good.

Overall I enjoyed the series, but wish it would've just been condensed into 2 books instead.

Book 1 - 4 stars
Book 2 - 3.5 stars
Book 3 - 2 stars

Finally I finished this series. Sadly the conclusion of Remi and Bowen' story is not with fanfare.

The Differrnce Between Someday and Forever, has the explanation of what Miss Martinez had built from book 1. What disappoint me is the ending. There are too much unnecessary drama in the plot.

Overall, OK book for conclusion.

Yes, it’s a romance, but I don’t see with colored glasses the behavior of the male character.
He is so patient and fool with the female character , this is boring and I think he wasted his time.
The end is perfect, but I think he should be more badass and manwhore ( it’s my opinion ). 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was actively wishing, hoping, praying Bowen would move on from the utterly self-centred git that is Remi. All I heard was me, me, me the entire book.

The book started off pretty well, with her being kidnapped (again) by Mark. She manages to answer Mark’s phone on the sly and she is saved by Bowen, her white knight after dropping some vital information about her location. The police shoot Mark dead. That whole scenario concluded just under 15%.

I think Mark had a point about their whimsical friendship. She and Aaron lived with him yet didn’t seem to notice he was an addict, overworked and absolutely bonkers, in need of dire mental support. Moving on…

The rest of the book is Remi putting Bowen through the ringer with her insufferable dramatics. His only trait is that of being this pining lover. She cuts him off, relocates to Savannah to “rediscover” herself and her lost memories. Bowen just lies in wait whilst she calls all the shots in their relationship. You have needs too. I was hoping he would speak up rather than staying a silent snowflake. She can’t keep jilting you, and she isn’t the only one who has suffered. The fact that she let him find her twice half dead - once in their bed, and once is the bathroom was so unkind.

I really disliked the way the book never seemed to focus on his suicide attempt and his unhealthy attachment to her emotional state. You can’t drop male suicide in a book and move on, using it as a mild plot device. It’s all about poor Remi. I felt for Remi. She HAS been through a lot. Yes, Remi was kidnapped by her best friend; yes Remi lost her memories in a plane crash; yes, Remi was lied to, but acting like Bowen betrayed her? She re-orientates every situation to be about her. He deserves more empathy. Perhaps they should look into couples therapy?

I gave up and DNF’d around 80%. Grew tired of her bullshit. Also they’re just a pretty cringey couple.

Everyone knows by now how addictive Aly Martinez books are and whether she gives us Duets or Trilogies, we get stir crazy waiting for the next book. These books were no different and even though I was expecting more out of this final one, I'm still happy that I got to experience this Trilogy.

Picking up where book 2 left off, we were thrown right into the chaos of some shocking events. Now dealing with the repercussions, Remi is trying to come to terms with everything and are now taking steps to move forward. But with a past like theirs, can everything really be forgotten?

giphy-25

The one thing that I really loved about this story is the determination and love you felt throughout the entire journey. These characters were selfless and they didn't just say they were in love, they showed you. With every sacrifice, every thought was always for the best interest for their loved one and I loved seeing that.

Now don't get me wrong, I was really expecting a little more excitement for this finale and I think that certain things could've been different because it affected the dynamic of the main characters but hey..

If you're a fan of this author, then you're going to fall in love with this new Trilogy.

I don't even know how to begin gathering my scattered heart and pen down the massive feelings I'm left with, after having finished this book and the phenomenal series.
As an avid reader I finish a book and move one to the next one immediately. The tiny details sometimes linger, some scenes etch in the memory and overall feelings remain.
That is NOT the case With Aly Martinez books.
They become a part of my soul. i can NEVER move on. That's what makes her different and coveted
I can actually remember the stories in their entirety of all her past books and this series is no different.

description

The sheer magnitude of sentiments she packs in her books carry a punch of 10 G-Force. (Human beings can only tolerate 9 btw)
To say this series annihilated me, would be an understatement. It's impact has made a crater the size of Atlanta in my heart. Every book of hers is highly anticipated. It is a promise of a good feels, slapstick humour and heart twisting angst. This pot boiler has Remi Grey & Bowen Michaels who are not only adorable, they're are invincible lovers. If there is a poster-couple who withstand tragedies of physical and metaphysical kinds, who inspire and are objects of aspirations for us lowly humans, it's Remi & Bowen.
OR Sally & Bowen
OR Raven & Harry
The travelling Avian Haberdasher & Hollywood's Prime Swine Orthodontist.

“For the better and the worse. We evolve and adjust. Learn and grow. It’s a never-ending process through the entirety of life. But the core of who we are is always the same. And you, my beautiful, funny, brilliant, clumsy, sexy woman, will always be Remi Grey.”

description

As ridiculously cute they are, their passion could trigger a nuclear explosion with its intense heat and charged chemistry.. Also helps the fact that FATE plays a huge role in their relationship. It not only brings them together, it's stages an intervention on their behalf. Changes the course of their trajectories so they intersect and merge together.

description

"Maybe fate wasn’t something that brought people together. Maybe it was something that kept people together. And the rest was just paperwork. "

The time-out phase for Remi to find herself, brings her to Jenna who becomes a very important Character throughout. The Charlotte episode is oh so flaming hot, I actually got jealous of Remi.
Move on girl, gimme a chance too..yanno 😜

"our bodies had a conversation only our hearts could hear. "

But the fire, though toned down, still has burning Embers beneath. The distance has neither mellowed nor diluted their intense love and longing for each other.
The comeback game is strong with this one and screams of make up sex still echo down the streets of Charlotte.

description

The series conclusion is not only Epic, the twists (YES!! PLURAL!!) keep your neck fully exercised with whiplashes. My jaw dropped like Paul and threatened to swallow my entire face.. (YES! THAT big!!)
So like I said, I can't even begin how to articulate the feelings roiling inside my chest after having finished this book, this phenomenal series.
I'll only say this, if an alternate book world exists, I'd like to be the heroine (read Remi) in any of Aly Martinez books.

2.5 stars.

It was past eight by the time I caught sight of her blond hair flowing in the breeze as she walked through the crosswalk.
〝Well
, well, well. Look who it is,〞I said, meandering her way.
〝Were you smoking?〞
〝No
, but after the first hour of pacing around the entrance, the valet kept eyeballing me like I was trying to steal a car. So I was forced to sit with the smokers.〞
She continued walking but swung her pretty blue eyes my way. 〝The first hour? How long have you been waiting?〞
〝Oh
, I don't know. Since I skipped out on my last lecture around four thirty…〞

mr. alexander michaels waited, wandering outside of a hotel, waiting for his girl, for four hours straight. just…let that sink in.

after finishing all three novels in this whirlwind of a trilogy,
i can unequivocally state: #1 remains my absolute fav, followed by #2, leaving this one, #3, in last place.

all in all, my first aly martinez is one that’ll stay with me forever. for fuck's sake, my first ever spotify playlist for a book was made literally because of this. i'll only ever re-read the first novel, though. it's imprinted on my heart, tattooed on my soul, i fear.

why 2.5 stars:

☛ remi (h). just like with each of the novels in this trilogy themselves, i wound up liking remi less and less the further i got into it. i can't even begin to imagine the torment she's gone through—hell, i wouldn't have made it out alive, so credit to her—but, man, it was hard not be frustrated with her. bowen was nothing but there for her. 24/7. and it fucking gutted me to see him in pain indirectly caused by her. the following quote by him says it all:
The only solace I could find was that she wasn't hurting anymore. That had always been the goal, right?
But fucking hell
, I was getting tired of always being the sacrifice.

☛ the way that the cliffhanger from #2 gets resolved more or less within the first 15% of this one… i appreciate it lent more time to the “important” stuff, but i wasn’t a fan of the direction that the story took afterward. i was low-key so upset with the way it turned out. i truly understand why the separation was something that needed to have happened and the realism there, i do, i just wish it were a different situation here as it was not what i wanted to be reading given all the heartache and heartbreak and utter trauma the main characters had already gone through, and i feel that it only prolonged the inevitable. yes, it was only four months, and it could've been longer, but you know what? it could’ve just…not been a thing, altogether.

☛ like, i'm sorry, i am, but this isn't women's fiction—it's not, and that’s why it really shouldn't have been an ode to solely her journey of healing after trauma, but to his, too—maybe if it was, i would've been more open and welcoming to her in this last bit.

#1: the difference between somebody and someone ↠ 4.5 stars!
#2: the difference between somehow and someway ↠ 4 stars!
#3: the difference between someday and forever ↠ 2.5 stars!

The hero is pretty much like out of this world book husband material. The heroine? Ehhhhh, I don't hate her but the hero definitely deserves a bit better imo. The separation dragged but at least the ending was super cute. Definitely a journey.

After a taste of book one, I can not wait this long for the final book 😭🥴♥️

Scratch that!!! Another nuclear bomb dropped at at the end of book 2 … my heart can’t take it. I need book 3 so bad 😭😩

This was a fantastic ending to the trilogy. A bit of drama, suspense and a whole lot of romance.

good conclusion

This was a good conclusion to this trilogy. It sort of reads like the last 20% of a standalone and then a sort of long epilogue. I didn’t love this one as much as the first two, but I still recommend!!

“We end up together. I don’t know how or when, but it’s the only thing I’m truly certain about.”

As soon as this one hit my kindle, I had to stop everything and read it, especially after the cliffhanger of Book 2! I can't stress enough how much of a great writer Aly Martinez is, her stories just blow you away. In this 3rd and Final Book of the trilogy (and you MUST read Books 1 & 2 first!) you will get all your questions answered, every single one of them! And Bowen and Remi will finally get their HEA, as they should since they've both been through the wringer. The road to the HEA is of course full of bumps and bruises, in true Aly fashion, but when they get there, everything is just so rewarding. And OMG that epilogue was perfection.

“It’s why I still carry it. It’s also why I believe in fate and how I know what we share will never disappear. In one way or another, in and out of your control, you keep running away, but I don’t even have to chase you for the world to bring you back to me. Over and over, we find each other. It’s what we do, baby.”

Bowen and Remi are both such amazing characters, the character building is so on point. I loved their chemistry and they had the best conversations. This book has a different feel and pacing than the first two since there is no tension building and no cliffhangers, however, Aly does have some surprises down her sleeve when you think you already know everything. This trilogy is hands down in my favorite reads this year. I just can't wait to see what this author comes up with next cause I know it will be fantastic!!! I absolutely recommend!!!!

I could pretend I didn’t love him. I could tell myself he didn’t own my heart. I could even convince myself I was some crazy version of myself having a nonchalant, no-strings-attached fling at a work conference. But the truth was every version of me was head over heels for every single version of him—Harley Steele included.

Bowen needs another love. fate jipped him.

I HATE REMI. there’s no ifs ands or buts. She is an annoying, self centered snob. Everyone around her does whatever they can for her and she creates destruction in her path. “I need space”. “I can’t talk to anyone who betrayed me…” but then talks to EVERYONE except Bowen. The man who literally saved her life 5 times. Listens to EVERYONE else’s side but not Bowens… who was forced into his decisions. Selfishly taking more from Him when it meant the world to him, but she only wanted him for a day. No. No. I hate her. I wish Bowen would have found another love. Even in the end, REMI sees the devastation she brought to his life. Organizing HIS WHOLE LIFE for her. No. No. No.

The other books were interesting, this whole book made me hate REMI & the HEA. it was hard to get through? I kept wanting to quit.

What a ride!

Not that I was surprised, or that anyone else would be considering all that has happened to Remi and Bowen, but with all those two had to work through and the little plot twists dropped right up until the bitter end…this one kept me turning the pages to see what it would take for them to FINALLY have their HEA.

I loved Remi and Bowen from the start. I may not have always agreed with their choices for one reason or another, but I’ve also not gone through all that they have, but the one thing that was apparent from the start was that they were meant to be together. Call it karma, fate, coincidence…whatever you like, but the connection between them was stronger than everything life threw at them and I’m happy with how it all worked out for them in the end.

While this one is the conclusion to the trilogy, a lot still happens and I’ll admit that some of it was a bit OTT for me ~ the little twists tossed in there were definitely interesting ~ but it was still a read that gave me more than I was expecting and put a smile on my face in the end.

Again going against the tide as I didn’t enjoy this book at all, and I can’t believe all the 4-5 stars out there.

Some stories aren’t meant to be trilogies. Nothing happens here; there’s no plot, nor character development. Book was boring, pointless and repetitive.

1 star 🌟 for me, regrettable read.

4-4.5 ⭐'s

I was so ready for this book and so happy that I waited to read these until all the books were out.

We finally get the answers we were wanting...all the who, what and wheres and it's really sad. But then, things change and Fate has stepped in again.

I quite enjoyed that part and I especially loved when Remi got her head straight.

There's a bit of a twist at the end, again, never saw that coming but I was happy with the way things turned out and the epilogue was amazing.

Overall, I enjoyed the series, however, I think it would have been better if we had more in-depth page time regarding some of the things Remi went through. It would make her problems more balanced with Bowens.

⭐⭐⭐💫 Soulmates Stars!

I loved the first two books, and don't get me wrong... I still love their story and Bowen with a passion, but this one dragged a little too much....

Last book ended with a really good cliffhanger and shockingly so, that plot was quickly solved before 15% of the book, lefting everything wide open to new territory.

While i enjoyed THE solution of the kidnapper plot, I didn't liked HOW it was executed in such a rush.

After that first fast paced 15%, Remi left Bowen and everything behind to find her true self, by living alone in a new city, and for 4 months that's what she did.
It wasn't what I expected or what Bowen deserved after everything that they both went through.

He was perfection in this book too and Remi actions left me a little sad.

All that separation time made the story drag for too long, and with another unnecessary twist at the end, it dimmed a little on my love for this trilogy, that it should definitely be a perfect duet.

I still love the writing... And Bowen!

Great conclusion to this series ❤️

The connection between Bowen and Remi was absolutely sublime. The banter between them was complete perfection. Their love gave me chills, I felt it deep down! They loved hard and fierce, Bowen was seriously the best. He wore his heart on his sleeve and that was a very attractive quality.

TBH, I thought another "mystery" that was revealed towards the end didn't feel necessary to the story. It was out of place, it didn't even cross my mind and interrupted the flow of their journey for me. Just a personal preference/observation.

Great writing, hard won HEA! This was a beautiful story of soul mates fighting for what they deserve.

What a let down. After the high of book one, I was so excited to see where this trilogy would go and I gotta be honest - the last two books were not necessary. This easily could have been a duet and I would’ve enjoyed it. But with the cliffhanger of book two being resolved so quickly in the beginning, I just didn’t see the point in the rest of this book! Books 2 & 3 were filler. Bowen and Remi were cheesy as hell. I skim read most of this and I’m pretty bummed because this could have been amazing. Trilogies with the same couple are just not for me anymore.

The twists never ended….

Wow, I can’t believe I made it. That they made it. Remi. Bowen. Their families. Their friends. How they survived the brutal lows and the hopeful highs, and everything in between, was a testament to the love they had for each other…

Strength. And a deep, abiding devotion to each other is the only way to explain how they came through. The challenges weren’t over though. Not even so close to the finish line. Oh no, there were more obstacles to overcome, including self-doubts and (dare I say) self-sabotage. What I did know was I couldn’t imagine them not making it. Not after everything. The twists and turns were too brutal, too painful, not to overcome. They couldn’t be… Imagining Remi, and the sweet, absolutely swoony Bowen, not getting their happy ever after – it was too much to even think about…

The tension was high, I admit it. Forevers aren’t a guarantee for anyone. Shaky ground led to the epilogue and… I caught my breath and smiled… I loved this trilogy even if it wrung every emotion it could from me. And, of course, that’s probably why… ~Diane, 5 stars

When being involved in a plane crash is not the worst thing that has ever happened to you, you know your life hasn’t been easy. These two have been to hell and back, then back to hell again. When you learn that one of the people you trust the most, is one of the people wanting to hurt you…how do you know who to trust? When the truth is revealed where do you go from there? Is your love strong enough to survive the worst? Book three was just as dramatic as the other two. This was an emotional journey that I’m so happy I took. This was a fast paced read with many amazing twists and turns. This story was extremely layered with amazing depth and great characters. All our questions were answered and more. These two have a love connection that could survive anything and they proved it over and over again. I look forward to reading more books by this author. After reading this amazing trilogy I am definitely a fan of her writing!

Okay. Finally I have a full day to process this book out. And this is my conclusion.

Bowen gotta one of the best heroes ever. Like EVERRR.

This series throughout, is the story of a broken man. I know the plot revolves the girl but this man is the core of it. He's what made this series worth it, he's what made this love story worth it. He's a unicorn and in my opinion, nobody deserves him. His dedication, his efforts, his struggles, hope and love are what made this series stood out from the others. And to see him broken, this innocent soul, oh my god, always brought tears into my eyes.

Yeah, I'm particularly sappy right now with this series. Told you I'm bad with angsty books.

Anyway, a perfect series for me. The whole fate talk? Fits my romantic jaded heart to the T.

"Over and over, we find each other. It's what we do, baby."

I am SO glad I talked myself into actually signing up for this series. As we allll knooooow, I loathe cliffhangers and definitely don't like waiting around for a series to finish - so, usually, I forgo them and generally miss out because going back to them doesn't always happen with my schedule. I know, I know...I miss out on more than I should but that's the price I pay for my sanity. HAHA!

Ok, so I am going to be as honest as I can be without giving away spoilers but by the time I got to 18% in this book, I was ready to throw my kindle out the window and order a hit on Remi. No lie, I was done with her. I was angry at her decisions. I was seething at her reactions. I couldn't reconcile my emotions with her actions. Now tell me how weird that is?? I am not sure I have ever really been in this predicament, but I was fairly sure I wanted to shake her while simultaneously strangling her. I had to have a serious one-on-one chat with myself because my misplaced anger for Remi wasn't fair, and I was well aware of that. I struggled because I saw how much she leaned on Bowen, but also how much she was pushing him away. I wanted to understand what her actions were supposed to benefit because I was not understanding any of it. Was it for her emotional wellbeing? Her mental wellbeing? I couldn't grasp it, but I knew I needed to take a step back because understanding Remi was the key to my enjoyment of this book.

But, damn that Aly Martinez for making me come around and not only see where Remi was coming from, but also taking a step back and actually looking at the reasoning for what she did and the why of it. That is probably my favorite part about this entire trilogy. Nothing was what I would have done, but I'm boring - ooobviously, so seeing her bring me through this quagmire of emotions to really take a deep, long look at Remi's thoughts and her emotions was a BIG task: one of epic proportions. Miss Martinez nailed that wholly.

"Our bodies had a conversation only our hearts could hear."

These two came together (literally? figuratively?) and they were explosive. Their connection was easily felt through their actions as well as their words. There was so much meaning in everything Bowen said to Remi, while causing me to swoon hard and (out loud, mind you) counsel Remi on what she needed to do. HAHAHA! I seriously went a little loony reading this book. Conversations with myself...out loud. But, I talked my way through this one with more than one smile. More than one sigh. More than one gasp. I loved the way Bowen loved Remi, and how he took care of her on so many different levels. He was most definitely my favorite part. He's the fighter we all love in our romances - truuussst meee.

MY truth: that soft ending felt almost mismatched with the opening angst and the emotional grip Bowen and Remi's story had on my heart initially. I was hurting for more. I got the predicted HEA ending I always crave and need for these types of stories to be good. But it almost felt....Hallmark'ish. (Eek!! I hate saying that, sorry!!) It fell together super easily and had the perfectly tied red bow on the end. I loved that, but I was missing some of the bang I thought was coming to play out in this finale. Basically, this final book started out with me immediately pissed…but, it just kinda fell together rather easily. I almost felt like it didn’t give me the “satisfaction” of fighting for a love that was FATE - if that makes sense - but it shouldn't make sense, because they did fight in the literary sense. It was fate. But, dear lord, they fought for their HEA. I am not taking away that truth because that would be disrespectful of me because that is not my complaint. Not in the least...

How can I complain about a beginning and an end to a book but still sit here and say I enjoyed it? I don't know, but like I said in the very beginning - Miss Martinez pushed me to the brink of my sanity while taking me on a journey, making me feel this story as it unfolded. So, not really complaining...but these things stuck out to me. Would I still recommend it? Whole-heartedly. It was a great journey and the original angst and buildup to their love story was my favorite part about it.

Overall, this was a book full of discoveries and an exploration worthy of the pages it graced. I definitely enjoyed this love story and easily recommend it.

The conclusion to The Difference Trilogy starts out slap-bang in the middle of the thrilling action that the last book left off at. As well-written and engaging this series is, the suspense here was over far too quickly in my opinion.
It’s so easy to become invested in Bowen and Remi’s story through, how they have overcome the most impossible odds and fate keeps bringing them back together. They truly have been through hell and back, and deserve their “happily ever after” together - but will they get it?
The author does a good job at portraying and handling the subject of mental health throughout this series. The raw reality of these two people trying to keep it together with all that life has thrown at them.
Overall, the first instalment in this trilogy is the strongest, the only one I awarded a full 5 stars, but it is definitely worth your time! If just for the character development and twists.

I hated this ending. The fact that it took me 5 days to finish it says it all. It was soooo boring and totally freaking unnecessary to have a third book at all. The most interesting part was that her best friend was the one who who kidnapped and hurt her and that was all of like 2 chapters. No real delve into why Mark was the way he was. How was Remi so freaking clueless about it? How did Mark not get caught the first time around? Instead, the author spent the whole freaking book with Remi and Bowen apart and her trying to find herself. Then, they pretended to be new people after innocently meeting at a conference. Who the f cares!! I, for one, did not need to read another whole book about how much they love each other, how broken Remi was that Bowen lied, and how much Bowen will do anything for Remi to get her back. It is so repetitive I skimmed it all. Oh and if you’re reading this review before reading the book, you’re welcome. I just summarized the whole book above for you. The last “reveal” was also so quick, dumb, and glossed over. I hated this book!

Damn. This book is a perfect example of how not to stick the landing in a trilogy. The first two books ended with fantastic cliffhangers - so much so that reading the third was absolutely essential to tie everything up. But then you get… this?

Resolving the major cliffhanger from book 2 within the first 15% of the book is an interesting choice. I might have stretched out the kidnapping a little more but what do I know?

Having the two main characters STILL separate after said kidnapping and dodging bullets by their kidnapper- even more of a bold choice. Seriously… how many times does Bowen need to save Remi before he’s like “this chick is a legit hazard to my life?”

Ultimately I think what did it for me to rate it so low is how Remi got progressively more intolerable as the series goes on. By the time we get to the third - she’s officially the worst. As I’m in actively rooting for Bowen to find someone new and just let her go.

Such a let down. Not a good way to finish the series.
