The Haunting of The House on Hill Road

Rate this book
Piper was about to be evicted from her flat when a solicitor contacted her with what was basically — a godsend. All she had to was pay back taxes on the old family house and it was hers to keep. So she did. But she didn’t know about the other occupant that never left, not until it was much too late.

Piper Williams is barely keeping her larder stocked, and is way behind on the rent when for the price of the back taxes she can claim a house that has been in her family for generations past. Seeing it as a solution to her financial woes and an opportunity to be left alone to work in peace  Piper empties what is left of her bank account and moves in. Yet old places need work and everything is on the fritz. But ‘old’ doesn’t account for the face that sometimes appears in the window. And 'old' doesn’t account for that stain that keeps returning on the rug. And ‘old’ doesn’t account for the old armoire that holds an ancient cloak that is only sometimes dry. When events turn hellishly evil and Piper finds herself in the battle of her life, can she find a way to put the house to rest or, like those that her passed before her, will she be destroyed and bound to the house forever?

The Haunting of The House on Hill Road

I have never read anything by Cat Knight before, this book being my first,it will not be my last. Loved the book and once you start you can't put it down. Fast paced for those who do not want to be tied to a long drawn out novel, you will live this book.

Not bad for a short story!

With this book you get what it says on the tin - a run of the mill haunted house tale. Yes, it was creepy but not frightening in any way. The characters lacked depth but, overall, it wasn't a bad read. Ideal for a train or plane journey but nothing to get excited about.

Ancient murrder?

Piper receives a house in a family death. Unbeknownst to her, there are secrets within...and without..

Piper has to work out who is doing the haunting and why. A friend arrives and is brought in on what is happening. She offers to help, along with a man Piper has net a few times.

An intriguing tale done in Cat's own unique style.

People who enjoy a good scary tale will enjoy these. Well worth a read

I probably won’t read many more books written by this author. The reading is easy, boring and predictable.

Quick read. Repetitive storyline where someone inherited a haunted house and that the ghost is attached to a certain object. Get rid of the object get rid of the ghost.

Sorry, I did not like this one much at all. No depth, even for a shorter story, and the "haunting" parts were really not all that creepy...very formulaic. On a positive note, the characters were fun, and they got along well and had normal conversations, despite the weirdness going on. However, the nonstop use of "bonkers" in not only dialogue, but even worse, just in exposition, was just awful. Such an odd word to choose to convey "that's crazy" or "that's insane". It was almost jarring, and really pulled you from any possible creepiness of the moment, because really..."bonkers"??! Also the use of the sudden ALL CAPS in a lot of these Haunting books is also unnecessary and distracting. Seeing BELLOW instead of properly writing that an otherworldly bellow suddenly echoed through the silence does not make it creepier; it just makes it feel lazy and distracting.

Good read, for a short story!

Good plot and clever characters made this short story entertaining. I thought it was somewhat predictable, but that may be due to the fact that I read so many spooky stories. Well done!

Good Novella

Great writing, editing and a solid storyline. I wasn't able to feel the characters and who they are because the book was so short. Excellent potential.
