Its great someone went through a bunch of local newspaper archives in order to find us some real gems of monster stories. Something worth noting is that almost all of them are one local paper reporting events very far away that likely cannot be corroborated by anyone reading.
My favorite section, however, was taken from the multiple vignettes of the famous 1909 Delaware River Valley Jersey Devil sightings:
"Congressman Hiram R. Burton is much interested in the stories of the peregrinations of the Leeds Devil about Philadelphia. He hopes the singular monster of the air and land will develop the qualities of uprooting the Earth, and if it does, he is in favor of raising many of the animals for use in digging out the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal."
To be honest I probably only read 60% of it. Not because it wasn't good but it isn't a read every page type book. However reading these old reports of crypto was awesome and the cases I read were great. This will be a definite resource for my podcast. If you like crypto this book is for you. And although I haven't read every case yet I can say that this is an excellent source for the unexplained.
Great repository of old newspaper monster stories. I forgot how old the Van Meter Visitor story was, so finding the article in this book was a fun surprise
Great collection of old newspaper reports of strange beasts. Though most are of the "hard to believe" variety, still very entertaining. My only problem was that it was a little heavy on the sea monster stories. I would have liked a little more variety as far as the types of creatures encountered, but there is still plenty of stories about non-water related monsters as well. A cool idea for a book and a fun read.
