Deaths on the Nile

Fantastic
There are many Alt History books out there, some okoy, others not so much, but this is a rare gem. A fully fleshed out, worldwide account taken literally one hour at a time. Thoroughly engaging in the micro and macro sense of both historical and fictional characters, and a unique staging point. Hoping this author never stops writing. Can hardly wait for the next installment

Great what if book
I can not wait for the next book. The story is serious and funny at times. I like the characters in the book but get rid of the back story characters

Excellt book anf worthy successor to the first bool

Another Great Military Novel
Military fiction tends to fall into one of two categories. Either the author rigidly follows the historical outline while playing with the behind the scene details to create a story, or they pick a point of departure and explore what could have been if some key element were altered.
I this case the authors depart from the historical record with the accidental and totally unexpected death of Adolf Hitler during his return journey from celebrating the victory over France. The traditional aristocracy take the opportunity to eliminate the more radical upper echelon of the Nazi party and put Goering in charge believing they can easily control him as their figurehead.
Instead of being completely manipulated by the hereditary nobility Fuehrer Goering appoints Heydrich as head of the SS, which acts as a perfect check to the unrealistic ambition of some aristocrats who believe commoners will simply obey because the aristocracy orders them to do so. In many ways the NAZI party was a rebellion against the traditional aristocracy that had lead Germany into the disaster of the Great War in 1914.
This novel builds on the consequences of having a highly rational technocrat like Heydrich operating the levers of power to bring Germany into a sensible war economy. In our history anyone who could get the attention of Adolf Hitler could get a contract to build some government project. This lead to hundreds of duplicate track projects for everything from motorcycles to fighter aircraft wasting much effort. That is without even counting things like the V-2 program that poured resources down the rathole of what was essentially completely random bombardment that was rarely effect at accomplishing anything useful for the war effort.
Bank Your Winnings. That essentially sums up Heydrich's philosophy. Adolf Hitler was opposed by a totally inept Anglo-French alliance that allowed him one bloodless victory after another in the 1930's. The allies did not even set out to rebuild their militaries into effective forces until after they declared war in September, 1939. The only thing that saved them was Hitlers self confidence leading him to over reach again and again until he had managed to get into a two front war with both the USSR and USA in the last six months of 1941.
Highly recommend this novel for fans of military fiction. Unlike many fictional accounts the authors take pains to describe the chaotic military equipment mixtures used by Germany with everything from home grown training tanks to captured French, Czech and even British equipment thoroughly mixed into units using German and Italian weapons. Refreshingly well researched.

Good read
Good alternate history. OK character development. OK military tactics, with a lot of less than believable maneuvers. But, I enjoyed the book and the tale.
