This book was hilarious! I’m good with romances. I like to read them, mostly at Christmastime. They aren’t my favorite though. So when I tell you that I enjoyed myself so much reading this book and I can’t wait to start the next one...you should believe every word. I love the senior citizen posse in this series. I want to know then in real life. Heck I want to be one of them. They are only old in age and wisdom. They are lively, caring and a bit pushy too. They know what is best and they are determined everyone else should just admit that. This book tells the story of Kat, (a granddaughter of one of the posse), and Caleb, (a firefighter). They are tossed together when he gets selected the town’s most eligible bachelor and she needs to write an article on him. Of course the posse thinks they belong together. Let the Hijinks begin! Reading this book kept me highly entertained. It wasn’t just the romance though. There was a lot of different types of love flowing. Love between family members, between friends and even between frenemies. This book has become comfort food for my soul. I highly recommend it.
A cute romance story that is packed full of humor to entertain and delight you! I can't wait to hear what happens in the next book to these characters as trouble is sure to follow as well as much, much more humor!
A delightful read. I found myself laughing out loud at the hysterical antics. It’s a very sweet story. I’m looking forward to reading more from Jenna St. James.
Ms. St. James has written a cute romantic comedy with plenty of humor as well as a sweet romance. I loved Katherine's grandmother, Mimi, and her friends at the senior center. An easy and entertaining afternoon read.
This was a laugh out loud book with a sweet story!
Katherine O'Malley, the granddaughter of Mimi Stiles, was a journalist who worked for her best friend, Candace and lived with her grandmother in Trinity Falls.
Each year, the town picked a candidate for the Most Eligible Bachelor, who chose a charity, then he was auctioned off to the highest bidder for a date. Candace, trying to stay on top and bring more business to her magazine, Around The House, elects Katherine to interview the bachelor elect.
The eligible bachelor, Caleb Travers, is a fireman and not interested in divulging anything personal to anyone, nor does he want to be tied down to anyone. Caleb doesn't want the attention that being the city's bachelor pick will present, so Caleb proposes a deal with Katherine. Katherine is to be seen with Caleb at all the functions, he'll even provide the fee for her to bid on him in the auction and he'll grant her an interview.
Katherine and Caleb didn't count on their grandmothers! Mimi is overjoyed that Katherine is dating, playing up Katherine's best features and planning a future wedding until she realizes that Caleb is the grandson to the spawn of Satan.
Katherine and Caleb go into this agreement with no strings attached, Katherine doesn't count on becoming jealous of an old flame, and hoping for more with Trinity Falls, Most Eligible Bachelor.
Mimi is quite the character, which I laughed out loud about how she makes anatomically correct knitted dolls for the sex education class she teaches at the senior center and many other shenanigans.
Katherine comes back to Trinity Falls to help take care of her grandmother who had a heart attack. That was a few years ago. Her college friend Candace moves to Trinity so they can run the magazine together.
When the town’s yearly auction comes around, Kat is asked to interview the Most Eligible Bachelor. The ladies know this will help the magazine. Kat agrees to go see this Lieutenant Firefighter, Caleb Travers for an interview.
Caleb doesn’t want to do the interview but he strikes up a deal with Kat in order for them both to get what they want. She plays along as his girlfriend and win him at the auction. In turn she gets the interview that she needs. It is a win win.
Things start to go right until the ex - girlfriend is back in town, Francesca. What can go wrong?
I loved reading this story. Caleb and Kat were cute and funny. Both their grandmothers were a hoot to read about. The trouble they cause leaves you with laugh out loud moments. We can’t forget about Blaze the cute Dalmatian puppy. All the characters and secondary charters were spot on. The plot was so great you either laughed or was a little miffed at Francesca.
Some of the scenes you had to read again through the tears from laughing so hard.
Blazing Trouble is the first book in the Trinity Falls Romantic Comedy Series by Jenna St. James. I absolutely love this author's cozy mystery series and I was super excited to read a rom-com from her.
This author puts the "com" in rom-com. There were so many laugh out loud moments, I loved it! Did I mention we have a fireman? Oh yes, and the fake relationship trope. Caleb aka Trinity Fall's most eligible bachelor and Kat form a fake relationship they were not in store for all the "feels" that would occur. Only problem is their grandmothers are rivals dating back to way back in the day.
I am a romance junkie, and this book checked all the boxes for me. The story line is so well written with a few surprises (gang fight LOL). The characters are complex and well fleshed out. I am so excited for this debut romance novel from this author. I hope to see many more in the future. So well done.
A great start to the new Romantic Comedy series by Jenna St James. Funny with just the right amount of romance. Well written, vivid characters and thoroughly enjoyable , it leaves you anxious for the next book in the series.
Blazing Trouble A Trinity Falls Series, Book 1 By: Jenna St. James Narrated by: Jeannette Smith
This book is an enjoyable delight, it is my first Jenna St. James and it will not be my last. She is a gifted author, I enjoyed her writing style, the storylines she created are interesting and original, they captivated my attention from start to end. The characters are likable, easy to relate to and connect with. Katherine “Kat” O’Malley moved back to Trinity Falls to be close to her Grandmother Mimi Stiles. Kat is a journalist and works with her friend Candace who is looking to increase readership for her magazine. Coming up with a plan Kat is going to going to cover a charity auction for the the town’s most eligible bachelor, Fireman Caleb Travers. She meets him and they come up with a plan so she gets the inside scoop. I thought these two were great together and for each other though neither one was looking for a relationship. And then there is those meddling seniors, I loved their over the top dramatics and the hilarious, laugh out loud situations they get themselves into. This story is cleverly plotted and there is never a dull moment, with plenty of drama, humor, some heartfelt and emotional moments and a wonderful romance.
I listened to the Audible edition, Jeannette Smith is a fabulous narrator and voice artist. She brings the characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice making it easy to follow along and who is who. She does an awesome job portraying the characters, grasping each persona and playing the role with perfection. She presents the dialogue naturally, nails the humor and lands it with ease. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧
I laughed so hard while I read this book!! I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this story, but I couldn't put it down!!
Katherine "Kat" O'Malley is a reporter for an online magazine in Trinity Falls where she lives with her eccentric grandmother, Mimi. She's assigned to do a story on a fireman who won the next "most eligible bachelor" in their town. Her focus has always been on her career and making sure Mimi stays out of trouble.
Caleb Travers loved being a fireman. He's a lieutenant and he takes his career very seriously. He's not interested in being in a relationship. Being chosen as an eligible bachelor isn't something that Caleb ever wanted a part of; giving an interview about his life to promote it is definitely something he won't do. When Kat comes to the station to interview him, he takes one look at the beautiful redhead and decides to kill 2 birds with one stone. Kat will get her story if she pretends to be his girlfriend for a week until the bachelor auction and be seen with him so everyone knows he's not available, she also has to win him at the auction; in return, he will give her an exclusive interview.
As these two date and get to know each other, they realize that their grandmothers are bitter enemies. His grandmother, Gilda, brings back an ex-girlfriend to interfere and Mimi does everything she can do to make sure they stay together despite whatever Gilda throws Kat's way.
But when Kat starts to develop real feelings for Caleb, are they reciprocated in return??
This is a delightful, funny, and enjoyable book. I removed one star because it's too short. So much happens in 1 week and we are to believe that it's some sort of love match. Things happen fast in romance books, insta-love runs rampant. It's the job of the author to charm me so much that I believe it. This author failed to do that.
This is insta-lust and we have no idea if the couple will go the distance. That left me feeling dissatisfied at the end of the book. So, I lowered the rating because it didn't meet my criteria for a 5-star rating.
Throw in the bachelor auction (I hate this trope) and the sexy, beautiful ex-girlfriend who wants the guy back (I hate this trope even more) and I found it difficult to love this book. Ugh.
I did love the seniors, what a bunch of characters! Trouble makers, they were hilarious. OMG the scene with the gang, poor Katherine lol. She sure got knocked around a lot in this book.
Katherine and Caleb have a sizzling attraction. You could tell almost instantly that neither one of them meant it when they made the arrangement. The attraction and interest was too strong. The main characters in this book are well-developed and likeable.
This is a well-written book. It's pretty much a clean romance, no sex or swearing. It's not a Christian romance.
This review is based on the story and audiobook version. This was an delightful, enjoyable story of a small town firefighter, a reporter, meddling grandmas who also get into trouble (reminiscent of Grandma Mazur in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series) and a bachelor auction gone awry. Nice storyline and build with good characters. I find the characters engaging and lovable. Narration was good but not great for me. The narrator did a good job in making character voices distinct so it was easy to follow (a big plus). Personally, I had trouble with the voice of the main female character--I just didn't care for it and it was a little irritating but not enough for me to not listen. Overall, enjoyable diversion and story and I would recommend to others and look at reading/listening to other works by author. I received a copy of the audiobook for free at my request and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I listened to the audio version of this book. This was a very funny contemporary romance that involves a bunch of senior citizens that will keep you in stitches. The basis is a bachelor auction that kind of goes awry. Not really a fresh concept on the bachelor auction, but the deal made between Kat and Caleb gives it a bit of a new twist. She is supposed to "purchase" him to limit his discomfort of the whole thing in exchange for his willing cooperation in giving her an interview. Hmmm. My favorite characters were actually their grandmothers. They were a riot! The narration by Jeannette Smith wouldn't rank up there with my favorite, but the narration was good. I was given a complimentary copy of this audiobook. All thoughts are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance with a little suspense. It all begins when a reporter for a struggling women's paper is assigned to interview the man who's been voted most eligible bachelor just prior to a charity bachelor auction. Meanwhile, our heroine's grandma and her Seniors Club friends are up to all sorts of meddling and trouble making. The characters are engaging, outspoken and lovable and the story takes enough unexpected twists and turns to keep a reader entertained. Blazing Trouble was a lot of fun.
Katherine's next assignment is to cover the Valentine's Bachelor auction; her subject is the fireman who was named Most Eligible. The sparks are sure to fly. When her Mimi and his Nonna get involved it's a veritable conflagration!
St James' characters are hilarious and endearing, but the situations they find themselves in will leave you in stitches all while pulling at your heart strings.
An enjoyable read that will have you quickly looking for the next volume to see what these ladies - and their posse - get up to next!
This is the first in the series. The main characters are Katherine, Caleb and their grandmas. Caleb is chosen as the most eligible bachelor in town and Katherine is told to get the interview to go with it. Only Caleb isn't what she expects. He doesn't want to be chosen or interviewed. They kind or work something out but then the grandmas get in it. Nothing is ever easy with them. This is a funny quick read full of twists and turns, Loved it.
Jenna St. James does it again. A laugh out loud, cry and fall in love with the characters book. Her characters are so larger than life and so next door that you feel you know and love them as much as she does. I can not wait for the next adventure these characters get into .
This is a funny story about a writer working for a friend's magazine that accepts an assignment she dreads only for things to be turned around when her subject puts his own plan on the table. The seniors in the story are full of life and mischief making things tense and amusing.
I really loved the story. It will make you laugh with the antics of the seniors. The reason I only gave 3 stars is because several pages were missing in the book. I had to guess at what was going on on the missing ,pages, and it was frustrating. I would still recommend it for others.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book I enjoyed the storyline and I really like the characters. I had some laugh out loud moments that were really wonderful! I won these books at a giveaway by the author and I’m so glad I got them because I’m enjoying them very much!!
A very real Tory with all the feelings. Jenna St. James has a gift for crafting a tale that pulls you in, takes you on a thrill ride and leaves you happy and smiling. I actually laughed at parts. I will read anything she writes!
Just like the heading says, the story is short and the plot rather obvious. Nice enough characters, the short 1 week of fake dating that led the couple talking about wanting forever seems the opposite of today’s trend.
I really enjoyed Blazing Trouble. This book is humorous, romantic and entertaining. I love the characters! They have great chemistry and I enjoyed the witty banter. This book is so fun and will have you laughing at the crazy antics of the characters. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
This is a cute, fast, and fun read. The addition of the grandparents makes for some fun comic relief and creates a fresh concept to the typical romance.
A good read for people who are into the series recommended highly a good read but quick shaping up to be a great series must read the next one of the series
