Thank you, Chlamydia

Rate this book
This title has been rereleased under the title "My So-Called Perfect Life".

My life was perfectly planned out. I did all the right things. My eyes were always on the prize. Working hard in college landed me the job I always wanted with security and great benefits. I dated a boy-next-door type with a solid future. We got engaged and planned the perfect wedding. Being sensible and responsible put me on the pathway to a picture perfect life.

Everything was going off without a hitch.

And, then it all went to this sh*t!

My dream life blew up in my face like a bad firework on the 4th of July.

Since walking the straight-and-narrow was a gigantic waste of my time, I decided to walk on the wild side for a change. Man, oh man, did I get more than I bargained for. A night to remember...

And an STD.

Getting chlamydia changed my life.

Who would have thought an STD would help me pick up the pieces of my shattered life?

Certainly not me.

So, thank you, chlamydia.

I don't see how Chlamydia is conducive to romance.. And especially in the title...

What the everlasting f*ck?!
Every time I think this genre has hit rock bottom, nope, turns out there's always another so-called writer willing to scrape the sludge and go lower.

Shite like this has pretty well ruined romances for me and I resent it. An STD in the title of a love story? It's even out of line for a rom-com. Why would I support a writer with such a base mentality?

With surgery looming, I needed a funny book and one to keep me entertained. Thank You, Chlamydia had me at the title and it was hilarious. It has been a while since I have read a book that made me laugh out loud in parts while reading. It also had cute moments when it became a thing for the main characters to give themselves keyrings that represent STDS. Our main character has always been the rule follower and had the perfect life and plan which suited her. That was until she found out on her wedding day that her husband to be had been cheating on her with his secretary and the tryst was continuing even on their wedding day. Not to be humiliated, she gave him her revenge at the altar as she read the texts. I loved this part too as it showed how strong a character she was. Danielle ends up in a bar and has a one night stand with a hottie - Ryan. The next morning though she wakes up and he's gone and all she is left with she is about to find out is Chlamydia. Thinking he gave it to her, she tracks him down and accuses him and things go haywire. From then on though there is this amazing chemistry between Danielle and Ryan. When she is around him, she's like another person - he brings out her all - including her crazy. Though when things start to move to the next level - will they discover they are on the same page or was this a rebound relationship for her? Find out in Thank You, Chlamydia by K.A Berg, a book to read if you find yourself in need of a good chuckle.

I can not believe I read a book that included an STD but guess what?? IT WAS AMAZING!! This was my first read from K.A. Berg and I can hardly wait to get my hands on so much more. It is unbelievable that this is K.A. Berg's first shot at Rom-Com. She was a natural. In this story, poor Danielle, forced to become a run away bride when so much time and money and planning had gone into her perfect wedding to be followed by her perfect life. Those of us who live in the real world know that there is no such thing and that life is messy. Danielle meets Ryan and one thing leads to another A.K.A - the proverbial one night stand and an STD as well!! The laughter and yes some tears that follow will knock you for a loop and fall head over heels for this book. I sincerely hope that K.A. Berg plans to write stories for Amelia, Mercy, Evan, Cara, Roxy and the rest of the gang at the Cohen Bar!

I am going to start this off with saying that I downloaded this book solely based off the title. I had seen someone share an article about the book and its uniqueness in the romance genre. I am a lover of people writing books outside of what is considered the norm. So, naturally I had to read this one.

The idea of a man and woman getting together because of an STD is not only unique, but it's also a little boundary pushing. It's not something most authors would be brave enough to do. We live in a hyper-sensitive society, so writing something a little too close to home that is not openly discussed can be scary. I give this author kudos for writing it. I am willing to bet others will try and dip their toes in this mostly unchartered territory.

Now, the book. Overall, it's a good book. Interesting. Funny in parts. I had no difficulty reading this one from start to finish. Obviously, based on the rating, there were parts that grated on me enough that I wasn't 100% all-in.

This is another book in which the female lead wasn't my favorite. My thoughts on her are hard to explain. She had times where she was the strong woman I needed her to be, but then there were times where she was a whiney, immature, and annoying girl. I had whiplash from her character constantly changing up her personality.

I enjoyed Ryan. He's another real life male character that I can get on board with. Okay sure, he did that one thing that made absolutely NO sense. It was a bit childish and highly confusing. I had a few sighs and eyerolls just in his honor. But in the end, I could almost see his side in it. Almost.

Overall, this is an interesting, unique, and at times, funny read. I am not necessarily over the moon with it, but I definitely think it was worth a read!

Even though the title is off-putting (I second-guessed my decision to read it many times before I started) the book itself is great! I've read a few too many books lately where the heroine is betrayed and doesn't stand up for herself as strongly and gracefully as Danielle. The relationship between 2 people who have been judged and stereotyped by others is sweet. I think there is a place in romances for an open discussion of STDs and how they can be transmitted and prevented without shame.

I highly recommend this book.

My So-Called Perfect Life is the first book I have read by this author but wowza. Talk about hook, line and sinker. I LOVED this story! I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I'd enjoy a story about the main characters getting an STD. This story had it all. Laugh out loud moments, romance, steam, and even a few tears. In addition to strong main characters, this story had an awesome set of secondary characters and I cannot wait to read what happens next with Amelia, Mercy, and the rest of the bunch!

When Danielle finds out her fiancé has been cheating on her, a trip to the nearest bar is necessary. Thank God, because it's where she meets a gorgeous bartender, and has the hottest night of her life. Unfortunately, that night leaves her with an STD (or so she thinks), so back to confront Ryan she goes. And promptly realizes just what a great guy he is. And is reminded of how hot he is, too. Can they make a relationship work or is Ryan doomed to just be the rebound guy?

You'd think that with a title like this, the story would be cringey and gross, but it's not. It's freaking hilarious, and sweet, and sexy to boot. I loved it actually. Danielle is so relatable and so damn funny! And Ryan is a total sweetheart. I'm not sure if K.A. plans on writing more in this world, but I hope so, because this story is awesome!

Okay, so title aside, you should totally take a chance on this book... it was downright HILARIOUS. From a horrible wedding day nightmare, to a one night stand in a bar, to a burning when she pees, to a vomiting blubbering mess, this book had it ALL. I cried from laughing so hard.
Dani was downright the best female character ever. She was witty and fun and engaging in a way that kept me interested. Her one liners were pure gold.
Start to finish, this was amazing. I can't wait to see what else this author has because I'm a fan now.

Ryan was swoon worthy and fun. He was level headed. He was alpha in a way but also not. He was definitely sure of himself. Calm. I enjoyed his character.

The story of how Dani and Ryan came to be was funny and fun. I was not always sure they would get to the end, but it was a fun ride.

Don’t judge this book by its title.
For those of you who are looking at this title and only seeing the ‘word’, I’m here to say, look beyond it. It’s attention-grabbing, I’ll admit, but honestly, so is the story. It starts out with a cheating almost bridegroom, then heads to a hot hookup with a sexy as sin bartender, then the dreaded word rears its ugly head for real. But, fear not. This is not the be-all and end-all of the tale. It’s only the beginning!
Danielle finds her betrothed has been cheating on her wedding day. She’s rightly outraged and calls the whole thing off. Then a few days later she meets Ryan. He’s hot, sexy and she likes him. They hook up and then bam! It’s STD time.
Danielle isn’t pleased and it’s only once the truth comes out that she and Ryan find their way. It’s sweet and funny. Steamy and all-out a heart-warming story. I highly recommend it. Could have done with a better title? Maybe, but it was the author’s call to make and I didn’t let it deter me. I suggest you follow suit and give it a chance. You will fall in love with these two characters. I know I did.

Danielle Jacobs is a planner... Everything is planned down to the T... until the day of her wedding. What should have been the beginning of her happily ever after turned out to be happily never after!

Her husband to be betrays her in the worst possible way on their wedding day, and Danielle finds herself in a bar downing Vodka shots and thinking about making bad decisions when Ryan Cohen over hears her idea he steps in... if the enticing woman is going to be making decisions to sleep with a random man then he's going to be it. After all what kind of bar owner would he be if he let one of his patrons do that?

It was supposed to be a one night thing... but then Danielle shows up in Ryan's bar again screaming at him and making a scene... he should just let crazy go... but Ryan and Dani-girl are drawn to each other but is he just the rebound following her shambles of her previous relationship? Or does she want more?

This was a funny tale romcomesque read. I wasn't sure if I'd like it but I enjoyed a lot. Worth the read IMO.

Danielle is not having a great time. She finds out her almost groom is cheating on her right before the wedding. She lived life by the rules and all it got her was heartache. She ends up drunk in a bar and having a one night stand with the bartender Ryan. An STD and the truth come about so that Danielle and Ryan can finally get together. Don't let the title put you off this story, it's a great read.

I picked this up for a thesis I’m currently writing about sexually transmitted infections in literature. This was the only book I could find that talks about Chlamydia, actually. Most of the other ones are about HIV/AIDS. And after a few days of reading somber and heavy tearjerkers, reading this book was almost a relief.

It’s a fun and light read as far as fun and light reading goes. I was actually really excited because the premise looked incredibly promising. Rarely do we find a story about two people getting together after they caught chlamydia — and presumably after one caught it from the other. And I think that the chances of that happening in real life is actually quite probable. I think it’s important to write about how catching an STI isn’t the be-all-end-all of who you are as a person. There was no drama or fanfare surrounding it, and I liked that about this book. And at my age, I found Ryan and Danielle’s struggles and decisions realistic and believable.

The only reason that I’m giving it such a low review is that I think the writing could have done with some tightening up. I’m no novelist, but the writing in this book is pretty... bad. There are a lot of things that stops me from fully immersing in the narrative and that rudely remind me that I was reading a work of fiction. For example, and this is an example I won’t forget, there was this one scene where the ex boyfriend storms to Danielle’s place and she calls the cops on him. Somehow, Danielle was able to narrate everything that was happening to the ex and the cop from the other side of the closed door. And it wasn’t just a few words too. It was a whole chunk of narration. I know how easy it is for writers to forget that while they do know everything that is happening, their characters are still limited to their environment in the story. Still, it’s a published book so I was kind of expecting the writing to be more elevated. I went into this knowing that it is in no way a problem novel. I expected the cheesiness, the cuteness, and the comedy. Like I said, it’s a fun and light read. But I was pretty annoyed at how most of the character’s voices sounded like whiny teenagers. It makes their reasons for decisions and actions feel kind of shallow at times. It’s these details that kind of ruined it for me.

Super fun, cute story. I loved the characters, the plot, everything. Everything except the title. Girl, you're a good writer, but the title almost made me not read the book. Honestly, I read it because I saw in a writing group were both in on Facebook that you asked for serious input on this topic, and I wanted to read it before giving a full reaction. Here it is: change your title. There are so many ways you could go and have a great response, higher sales/KU reads, etc. The title has shock value, but I don't know that it's enough for most people to open the page to read the description, much less read the book. I loved everything else about this book and would highly recommend it to others looking for a fun read.

Once you get past the title, the story is actually great. Thank you Chlamydia is about a twenty-seven-year-old woman who's is betrayed on her wedding day. Things actually spin out of control with her now ex-fiance for a woman who not only had her whole life planned out but now loses control over every aspect of it. There are parts of this story that are laugh-out-loud funny, and it's inspiring and hopeful to anyone who was forced to make a change in their planned destiny. Not to sound too cliche` but things always work out for the good of all. I enjoyed reading this book and the writing of K.A. Berg, and I highly recommend that you give it a try.

Who knew an STD would be so much fun?

I knew I’d love this book just by the title! Danielle finds out on the day of her wedding that her fiancé is cheating on her. After humiliating him in front of everyone she tries to drink her problems away and move on from her lying ex by hooking up with someone else as revenge. She not only finds out she has chlamydia, but maybe a new outlook on life. So much fun!

The reviews don't lie

I didn't think I would like a book with an STD in the title, but after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a read, and I wasn't disappointed! Dani's drunken moments tended to earn an eye roll(but that's just me), but overall, for her first attempt at a romcom, I can't fault it at all!

Ryan and Danielle are wonderful together. They are brought together by betrayal and and an STD. Their chemistry is off the charts. Rock on Ryan for being a wonderful stand up guy who does not allow a mishap to deter him from love. This book is hilarious and a wonderful love story! I love it!
