Praise for Roger Riccard
"Roger Riccard's Sherlock Holmes stories remind you why you love Sherlock Holmes" David Marcum
"Roger Riccard is an extremely good pastiche writer. Personally, I think the best since the late Val Andrews passed over Reichenbach" Joel Senter, publisher of the Sherlockian E-Times
Roger Riccard is an American author. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and History from California State University, his career spans teaching, journalism and business writing. Inspired by his British ancestry, he took an interest in the works of Arthur Conan Doyle from an early age, later writing Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Poisoned Lilly and Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Twain Papers. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Rosilyn.
Another five will written British 🏰 murder mystery family and friends relationships adventure thriller short stories by Roger Riccard Vol 2 of 5 (F-J). Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are involved in in five novellas each different with interesting well developed characters lots of action, misdirection, and violence leading to the unexpected conclusions. As a fan of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson I have enjoyed this author. Happy reading and have fun 🌙
Another fine collection of Holmes short stories. Again, while he plays up Watson's role (appropriately), the author down plays Holmes to the point he doesn't really seem all that special or capable, just an above average investigator.
This book starts up a trilogy of novelettes in which Holmes and Watson become entangled with Danish nationalists determined to "free" Heligoland from the Germans. The author seems enamored with this story but I've read two of them and they feel long and not as fresh or interesting as the shorter stories.
Another group of interesting cases, especially the last one which features Arthur Conan Doyle himself. Am enjoying these 'additions' to the Holmes/Watson library.
1. The Adventure of the Fool and His Money - December 1881 Warson is invited by an old comrade to Falgreen Castle to help discover buried treasure 2. The case of the Gunsmith of Sherwood - 1895. Gunsmith George Burton has been kidnapped and fored to do work for 'Colonel White.' 3. The Mysterious Horseman - colonel Ross's new partner, Jim Reese, believes his life is in danger 4. The Adventure of the Italian Gourmet - restaurant reviewer is murdered after posting a scathing review. 5. The Judgment of Doctor Watson -1905 Watson must go into hiding as a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Entertaining short stories
I really enjoyed the stories in this book. Everyone would its the most kind of fun reading you could wish for. Im glad there are those who still put these stories together for all of us to enjoy. While in Britain i walked by Doyles residence, (past) and the street is exactually what you would expect. I could almost hear the carriages passing by. Its a wonderful area and kept as it was in early times. I felt as though i could sit there and write good stories as well. To the author, thank you for all your work so we can enjoy.
These stories were so much fun! Roger Riccard had some wonderful ideas and out them to paper. I cheered all through The Mysterious Horseman and laughed my head off during the Italian Gourmet!
The only issue is the paragraphs. Many times words are enlarged, several massive gaps between sentences, and conversations not properly indented making it a little hard to follow who was speaking.
The author provides a worthy collection of Watson and Holmes stories. Watson’s voice rings true and the depiction of Holmes is spot on. The stories move along nicely and the deductions by the world’s greatest detective are as impressive as ever. Victorian London comes alive in this book. If you are a fan of Sir ACD, this is a great choice.
As in the first volume these five stories are not connected and each stands on its own. They are a quick and easy fun read for anyone that enjoys Sherlock Holmes stories I look forward to reading the next volume
This is a well written, and intriguing mystery. I could not imagine the conclusion until the very end. No violence, only fun in reading the Sherlock Holmes’ stories.
Another good collection of standalone short stories in the Holmes tradition. They're very good and I'd recommend them to any fan of Sherlock Holmes. There is a rather tongue-in-cheek addition to the mix. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself makes a brief appearance, but it works.
Generally a good read, except for one very long story about the Germans and Danes and an island which was pretty dull. Definite format issues in this one that are annoying.
