And then for more of a traditional Easter story for preschoolers
My wife and I both collaborated on an earlier review today of a fun Eric Carle book we just discovered for Easter that focuses on finding colorful Easter eggs. So we also wanted to add here a second review as grandparents that's our selection this year for a board book that touches on the actual Easter story.
My wife and I are grandparents of preschoolers and we got this book, even though it says it's for 3-5-year-olds, to read with one 3 year old and also one less-than-1-year-old who loves board books. We were attracted first to the shape of these pages, which are cut in various shapes across the top to give readers a peek at what's coming.
Then, reading the whole book carefully, we also find this to be a good introduction to Easter for little ones. For example, we do see Jesus carrying his cross here but we don't see images of whipping or the actual nailed-up crucifixion. The story makes it clear that he dies and his friends are sad and then he comes back. That's the basic Christian story, but this book doesn't dwell on the violence. We like that approach.
This is a fun book we're sure to enjoy with our grandchildren this Easter season.
