Do you believe in soul mates? Do you believe that somewhere there’s a person who makes you whole? If you ran into her at a coffee shop or on the street—would you know her? Would you have the courage to put yourself out there—to risk it all for love?
Zane Winslow was sexually assaulted just days before her high school graduation—targeted because she was a lesbian. The horrific nature of that violation has left her unable to engage in intimate relationships.
When Jaina Wakefield’s mother was incarcerated, she and her brother were placed in foster care. The years spent lingering in that system left her battling lifelong issues of abandonment. She trusts no one enough to risk being hurt again. Sex is fine, but relationships are out of the question.
When circumstances result in Jaina embarking on a search for her bio-family, her path will cross with Zane’s. Both recognize the other as a soul mate, but will their love be strong enough to overcome a lifetime of baggage?

Listened to the audio book. The narrators cadence and timing were off in many places, the volume varied loud then soft. It was distracting to the story. Overall I did not like this book. I thought some words were made up and don't exists. It had some. Poor sentence structure, at least as spoken it seemed badly worded. It needed more polish and editing.
Weirdly plotted and heaps of developmental stuff about the characters and their relationship just gets completely omitted and rushed over.
Both women have major trauma in their past and huge issues to overcome to be together - until they are suddenly easily fixed, until it goes back and forth again... But the entire way it's handled is simply not honourable enough for the subject matter...
The worst being the plot line that seeks to redeem and forgive a rapist.
WHAT THE FUCK?
Just No. Disgusted honestly. The author is either suffering extreme religious guilt, in trying to defend rapists through reconciliation and religious forgiveness - or has never truly encounter sexual assault. Because there's no other reason for why someone would write about these subject matters in such a way. I would be disgusted that anyone would read this with the idea this is a pleasing story to read in any way and would encourage you to unfollow and block me if you think so.

Story of forgiveness and how to give it or live with the consequences. But can such heinous crimes be so forgiven? A difficult subject matter to read, well written. Will need to read again when less emotionally involved... Found the writing difficult.
I just couldn't connect with these characters. They were a bit over the top; Zane was too zen and Jaina amost manic in her mood swings. I assumed a lot of the book would be about overcoming an obstacle or two, and it was... only it wasn't one or two, it was a series of hurried and easily resolved events. Jaina was set up as a commimentphobe and Zane seemed to have serious anxiety issues but they both were completely fine before 1/2 way. If you like happy stories, this is for you, just not my cup of tea.
I almost never write bad reviews, but this book isn't just bad, it's dangerous. I laughed off the abhorrent professional misconduct of both the pastor and the social worker as "well, it's a novel, and maybe the author didn't have time to look into what kind of behavior could have you lose your license/congregation." But the implications of having a clergywoman pronounce personal and holy reconciliation on her rapist (even if he is her girlfriend/parishioner/therapist's brother) are that if you were holy enough, you could do the same thing. When that reconciliation extends to moving said rapist into her own home, the potential consequences are horrible. Yes, it's a silly novel on KU, and no it shouldn't be that deep, except when it is, and messages like "it's a holy thing to forgive your rapist enough to move him into your home" should be challenged, even here.
I hate leaving bad reviews but I did like rating low without a reason. I came upon this a recommendation on kindleUnlimited and the blurb looked good enough as well as the reviews. So I figure why not give it try between other authors I like to read. It was not a wide decision on my part. The writing style to start off with just didn't fit me and I found myself annoyed with abrupt transitions and feeling a bit lost throughout the entire read. Things were touched upon and then forgotten. There was a lack of description of things that happened where character development would be key. I don't know...I just know this was not for me. Honestly, I rate it 1* but give it .5 more for being a kU read so found up to 2*
Emotional read, a truly heartfelt story. I've almost given it a five star, but for me there are just some part of the story which got too many coincidences. As a result, and particularly towards the end of the story, there were too much "coincidence" going on that it felt rushed. I felt the balance would be just right without the small detour on Zane's mom and the lost love. Zane's a lovely soul but I've enjoyed more reading Jaina's journey, who turned from the abandoned girl who fears any deeper level of human connection, to the woman who helped Zane heal. All in all this is an outstanding book, and now I'm move on to the author's other works.
I love to read an author's work from beginning to end. Especially when characters from one book pop up in others. Zane and Jaina are two chap who will pop up along the way. I have this on good authority, thank you, KA. Zane and Jaina are women with baggage. Their love for each other gigantic. We get to observe as each woman helps the other unpack their baggage. As they do, their soul mate love grows.
This was a great book. I was struggling with the divide between anger and forgiveness. Reading all that happened to Zane and when all the layers were revealed I was heartbroken and angry. How the character was written teaching her Jaina and us about forgiveness while still suffering with intimacy inside. Then we have Jaina and her inner turmoil of being abandoned twice and her denial in allowing anyone to touch her or see her. So many twists. Soul Mates was written so well and I just couldn’t put it down. So glad there is a continuation of these two. Loved them and love this writer....
This my second book by this author and both are incredible. I loved the storyline and all the characters. It's a great story that shows you that sometimes love comes when you're least expecting it. It wasn't a simple love story. Instead they struggle with their own demons and they both came with a lot of baggage. But you can't stop love, you can't withstand the need for one another. This is a beautiful written story of finding your soulmate. It's definitely worth more than 5 stars.
I just finished reading Coming to Terms by KA Moll and loved it. I couldn't wait to read Soul Mates. Soul Mates is a tender love story with warm, rich characters. It's a story that makes you think. I read it in one setting! Zane and Jaina are characters you fall in love with. The secondary characters are delightful too. This story is filled with surprises that delight the reader. I loved the book and would recommend it to anyone!
Having both struggled withrelationships for different reasons this insta-love, U-haul, soul mates story was a great quick read. The relationships were fun with a small hiccup or two, some angst because of their history. They only issue I had was that it didn't flow too well sometimes at least for me. But I think others may enjoy it. Definitely give it a try.
I loved the depth of the characters in this book. KA did a great job bringing to life the real emotional scars that happen when you've been a victim of abuse or neglect. It's nice to see a "Lesbian Romance/Lesbian Fiction" that has more to it then idle sex scenes. I'm looking forward to more!
Two women who decide they may never find a soul mate.
Jaina has never found love even with her adoptive parents. A chance meeting with the pastor at the adoption house while looking for her lost brother sets the stage she never thought that maybe she had found her soul mate. Zane the pastor finds out that Jaina's brother is the one who branded her in a girls locker room. So goes this brilliant written story of forgiveness and one of the reasons some children act the way they do because of the way their parents treated them while growing up. Enjoy!
Zane is a pastor and loves her church and congregation. Hurt terribly while she was in high school she works for healing and searches for new ways to help people. Janina is a lost soul who spends her Friday nights seducing woman. Searching for her birth mother and brother she travels from Florida to Illinois to research the adoption center that use to reside in Zane’s church. Two soul mates meet and change their lives forever. A sapphic romance about abandonment and healing. Great author.
I’m usually standoffish when reading about any abuse but reading this healed a piece of that. It was so well written. The character development was chefs kiss. I’m glad I found this book. It had up and downs and enough spicy to keep it entertaining for me. The theme of forgiveness was touching and the reality of anger being apart of that process was so real. We often think the road to healing is beautiful but it can be very ugly and hard but worth it.
So hard to give stars to. The story was well written but a tough read.
Spoilers.
I understand that bad things happen to people. What I don't get is the ability to forgive them in such a way. Over and over for different things. Thus the removal of a star.
K.A. Moll creates wonderful characters, Lots of humor, heartache, love as the healer, a gentle and passionate romance , challenging interactions between characters and just an engaging story that can’t be put down.
A really enjoyable book about a relationship between two women, both hampered by the scars from their earlier days, recognizing what they could find in each other: a sustaining love together that overcomes, fulfills & endures.
Zane's courage is amazing, and Jaina is a beautiful hot mess. What a wonderful story, and I'm looking forward to reading book #2, "For a Moment's Indiscretion." I love K. A. Moll's books!!
I have read several of K.A. Mills books and I usually like her books better than this one. It’s an okay novel but I think way too much is happening for the characters in this story for it to be believable. I would rate it 3,5 stars
My first book by KA Moll. I enjoyed it. I thought the characters had depth and I could empathize with them. The story evolved around painful, traumatic events that became baggage for the two main characters, and even though it is hard to find a love in real life that heals and rises above these kind of wounds, I believed it. The story was full of joy and made me feel good. I only wish the character Jim could have been developed more and I wanted to know what happened with him at the end but didn't see it unless I missed something. Also would have liked to know more about Jaina's and Jim's mom earlier on. I was wondering about it through the book until she showed up.
Don’t love and don’t hate. There seemed to be chaos and too much left unsaid so the book was confusing for over half. In real life I would find both with too much of a troubled past to work.
But it is a book.
And I have been raped by 3+ different people. And I have worked hard to stay in contact and get apologies. The brother in law apologizes and admitted and
This was an amazingly touching story about life and how it wraps itself around the relationship between two people and how that relationship can save, heal, morph and make people glow. How it can make people think. How it changes humans from animals that walk on two legs to fully present, emotional and even spiritual beings. Definitely a unique story given the two characters and what they have been through, it made me laugh, cry, and gave me food for thought. So what more could I have wanted from a novel? I actually wanted to give this book 4.5 stars. So much happened in this story that I felt that some huge points were merely glossed over and I wanted to go deeper into the psychology of the characters and their reactions, thoughts, successes and losses. I would have loved to see this book either longer or broken up into two or three books just to get the full scope of everything that happened within it. But, I loved the story nonetheless. It's true that this is a book about soul mates, but I felt that soul mates were not two halves that created a whole, but two wholes that came together to form a synergy of emotion and sentiment; a combination that created a new being between them. This was a novel that I truly FELT. Three cheers for KA Moll!
Fantastic read-what are you waiting for? Read this book!
This is my second book by this author and once again I am not disappointed. I finished reading this late last night and have been thinking about the book and its characters all day long. The characters are very well developed and real which is so refreshing. I felt myself drawn to aspects of them and relating to the difficult situations they were presented with. I found myself rooting for them to pull through every step of the way and KA didn't fail her readers in that regard. This book is a wonderful read about life and the difficulties that are thrown in one's path and how the characters conquered them with hope, faith and love in themselves and each other. Thank you KA for introducing us to these wonderful characters, flaws and all who realize that happiness is worth the risk especially with a soul mate by their side.
Oh my goodness - prepare for the emotional rollercoaster that is Soul Mates! I've read KA Moll's previous book and fell in love with her writing style right away so I had high expectations of this book...and it did not disappoint. I quickly fell in love with Zane and Jaina and their complex love story which was filled with happiness and tragedy equally. I literally cannot wait for more by this author - she's going to go far :)
