Echoes of War #5

Keep the Faith

Rate this book

The League of Sol has a new weapon – one starships can’t destroy.

Tactics have changed. The enemy hasn’t been able to beat Colonel David Cohen and the CSV Lion of Judah’s crew on the galactic battlefield. The League needs a more powerful weapon to succeed in the protracted war. One that will strike at the heart of the Terran Coalition and bring them to their knees.

One to annihilate them from within.

A new recreational drug is guaranteed to hook users in a single hit. With no cure, addicts will die within a year. Colonel Cohen and his team are given a classified assignment that takes them from the frontlines to the most unlikely of places:  Gilead, the neutral pleasure planet. Working closely with an undercover operative, they must infiltrate the vicious cartel responsible for bringing the highly addictive substance to market.

But what happens in Gilead, stays in Gilead, and there are formidable government officials that want to keep it that way – at any cost.

Now David must thwart the enemy and root out corruption at the highest levels without starting yet another bitter war.

If he can't, the Terran Coalition is doomed.

If you love Babylon 5, Safehold, and Destroyermen, you must read “Echoes of War,” a military sci-fi series that will take you to the heart of duty, sacrifice, and the unseen scars of those who serve.

Daniel Gibbs has a definite knack for writing a great thrilling action story with real-to-life characters and compelling scenarios. In this book, he again brings to life ordinary people dealing with realistic situations (i.e. sick lovers, whistle-blowing, governmental corruption interfering with police action) and still manages to bring in the faith element without hokieness or preaching. I had to read this book as soon as I got it - now, after two hours of enjoyment, I can only say "When is Book 6 coming???"

I received this ARC from Hidden Gems and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

David and his crew have been called from the front to fight a different battle.

David is not happy when his crew is pulled out of the front just as they freed an other planet. Turns out it isn’t the type of assignment he ever thought he would be involved in. A fight to break up a drug ring! How a fleet ship is called on to battle drugs is an amazing story. One thats pulls David and his XO off the ship to the planet and leaves them working as spy’s while leaving his ship in the hands of a young inexperienced major. A set up for disaster if there ever was one

Fun to read

A little bit of a departure from the structure of the previous books, Keep the Faith focuses on a single mission. Characters still follow the story line but are not as involved with the broad plot. They still spend a lot of time smirking which I continue to find annoying.

Good read.

This book was a little different than the other books. They were mainly up against drug dealers that are working for the enemy also so it's not a straight out war there are civilians in the way that they don't want to kill but some of them are bad people to so they have to be very careful on who gets killed going after the drug kingpin.

The excitement in the series continues

Many times as you continue a longer series it can become old hat and lose something. Daniel Gibbs continues to keep me excited about my journey in this series. Definitely worth the read.

Courage, Commitment, Faith vs. doubt, despair, retreat

The Terran Coalition is making progress in the war against the League of Sol, but internal stress threatens to destroy the Coalition from within.

Good continuation of the story!

I enjoyed reading this book. I felt it was true to the series. I'm looking forward to the sequels. This should really be made into a sci-fi series!

Really a 3.5

The issue I have with this series: it’s more about how the war is affecting people and their faith than it is about the war with a faithless League.

Another great read in this series. I couldn’t put the book down. I love the way science fiction/military action is balanced with great characters and examples of faith.

An author worth reading!

Characters are well thought out and situations cause the reader to think about life choices. One waits to see the conclusion of each character’s journey.

Col. Cohen

I felt col. Cohen was kind.of immature at some points like he was in command of a ship, but was not developed enough mentally!

ECHOES OF WAR BOOK FIVE

Since Book 1, Daniel Gibbs' ECHOES OF WAR has become my "go-to" series for exciting military fiction with a strong underpinning of faith (multiple believers in multiple religions) and a protagonist exemplifying moral integrity and compassion and protection for his ship and his crew.

In KEEP THE FAITH, Colonel David Cohen and crew of CSV Lion of Judah face a more insidious foe and conspiracy "in high places." Reflecting today's opioid epidemic, a new recreational drug has been released on the pleasure planet Gilead, so potent addiction is immediate, so deadly that every addict dies within a year--100% fatality. What's behind this epidemic is horrifying and ultimately dangerous to any who try to stop it.

Daniel Gibbs is a master at military sci-fi but, in Keep the Faith: Echoes of War Book Five, he has his (totally wonderful) lead m, Colonel David Cohen, fight a very different kind of war. It’s an internal war on drugs fueled byLeague of Sol in a pretty dastardly plan to destroy the Terran Coalition from within. Novel of not, Cohen is up for the task in this exciting and superbly written novel. Highly recommended.
