Creating a Christ-Centered Home: 12 Teachings of Jesus to Strengthen Our Families

Rate this book

Previously titled The Christ-Centered Home, this revised edition supports the new Come, Follow Me curriculum.

In the hectic scramble of a world that asks us to do everything, be everyone, and make it all look easy, we often lose track of the experiences that really matter most—quiet moments in our homes with our families when we feel the peace of Jesus Christ.

The lessons Jesus taught in the homes of His followers were simple. They were basic. And they were—and are—essential. In Creating a Christ-Centered Home, you will discover how to fill your family's hearts with the principles Jesus taught in the most sacred of classrooms: the home.

There is a humility that comes when we invite the Lord into our most private spaces. Within the hush we hear the gentle whisper of His voice, we experience the touch of His hand, and we feel the prompting to rise. Invite Him in, and experience the added measure of peace, strength, courage, and hope that comes when Jesus Christ becomes the central focus of your home.

Such a thoughtful, beautiful outline with lessons taken from each home where Christ spent time in the New Testament. Absolutely loved!

Emily Belle Freeman is a wonderful writer and incredibly inspirational. I have her Christmas book and loved it. So when I saw this I was super excited! I have loved pondering on the prompts she has in each chapter and haven't made any of the recipes yet, but am excited to make them for the FHE's I plan to have with my husband in the next little while. The simple way each principle is laid out is fantastic as it is easy to see how to apply it, yet gives plenty of room to study each thing much more than the insight she gives. I would only say that her references to social media were a little off putting for me as I love sharing what I'm doing to get closer to the Savior, but having it as part of this particular book came across as a little commercialized. I would definitely recommend reading this book if you are looking for simple ways to bring the Savior into your home in a loving and engaging way.

"If you seek a house where He abides, prepare to invite Him in.

If you seek a house of faith, expect miracles.

If you seek a house of prayer, converse with Him.

If you seek a house of scripture, embrace the stories of Jesus.

If you seek a house of worship, honor the day that is His.

If you seek a house of unity, do nice and be sweet.

If you seek a house of grace, remember His mercies.

If you seek a house of change, let Him perform His great work.

If you seek a house of love, provide a refuge for weary travelers.

If you seek a house of holiness, walk with Him.

If you seek a house of gratitude, let actions convey what words cannot express.

If you seek a house built upon a rock, make Christ the center of your home."

I absolutely love and adore Emily Belle Freeman and her lessons and stories. However, this just wasn’t one of my favorites. I love the morals she pulls out of different New Testament stories and I appreciate the workbook and reflective traits of the book, but it just didn’t capture me like some of her other works have.

I enjoyed reading this book, but it just didn't speak to me at my stage of life right now. (Especially after her other book was SO needful to me currently.)
