Killing Angels

Rate this book
The angels are coming, but their arrival means death for the human race. Two years is all that we have left. Two years until they come to kill every man, woman, and child on the face of the earth.

Society falls apart. People can’t cope with knowing what day the world is going to end. Some try to go on as normal, but the angels are not content to let them rest. The two year period is a trial that must be endured. The angels whisper into the ears of all who will listen. Kill your neighbours. Kill your friends. Kill your children. God will forgive you.

‘The Voodoo King’ Remy Laveau seeks to fight the angels and halt the end of days. He drives the people who listen to them out of New Orleans and sets up the community of New Sodom. New Sodom is home to all the people who believe that the world doesn’t have to end and that if it does have to end, it won’t end without a fight. But with society falling apart around them, it is more than just the angels they will have to fight. The humans that worship them are often more dangerous.

When I was a child, I would never play with action figures much. I found them to be rigid and too set in the way they were. Instead, I played with pens. Two pens to be precise. I would hold one pen out in front of me and picture it as an arm. If I could picture that pen as an arm, then I could picture a torso, legs, a head – the works. By looking at that pen, a fully formed character would appear before me. With a second pen, I would repeat the process over and conjure a second character. With two characters standing in front of me, I could visualise their world and their surroundings. The real world would disappear, and I would inhabit the world I had just created. This is how my process usually begins. I started as a child, but now I am a man with two pens, a notepad, and a ceaseless urge to write.

I was born in Perth, Australia to Irish parents. I moved to Ireland when I was 8 years old. The first autograph I ever obtained was for the children’s author Paul Jennings. I queued for three hours in a shopping centre just to meet the man who had stimulated my imagination. Stories like the ones he wrote, made me want to write my own. I liked to write for an audience. I lived for the positive feedback a good story would get me. No matter where my life took me, or whatever was going on, I somehow always found the time to write.

In May 2017, I independently published my first novel, Morbid Thoughts. A transgressive, psychological thriller that dealt with the perspective of a psychopath. It was a challenging piece to write, but I was very appreciative of the experience and learned a lot from the process. Now, I plan to put what I learned to good use with the forthcoming publication of Killing Angels. Killing Angels and Morbid Thoughts are both available from Amazon.

3.75 stars - the story telling needs work but the character details were good. There will be more that middle class men at the end of world and I loved that.

Loved this book

I laughed, I cried, I wished there was more. Fell in love with some of the characters. Great idea for a book, and excellent execution.

A surprisingly good read!

Its not often that I don't figure out the ending of a story. The author completely caught me by surprise. I should have seen it coming from a mile away but I didn't. The story is raw, weird and I kept thinking that maybe I was damning my soul by reading it. But come on, who doesn't like really messed up, violent angels bringing on the apocalypse! I'll be honest, it took me a few chapters to get into it but once the story started rolling, I couldn't put it down until I was finished.

Sigh

The book had a great premise and I went into it very hopeful. Most of the story was decent and mostly kept my attention. However, it totally punked out at the end. It’s like the author had no idea how to end it so let’s throw in aliens. Would have been a good story if really were about good vs evil and which is which but no we got nothing like that.

Strange story. Well -written. Great way to pass the time.

An interesting story about Christians, Sinners, and Angels. Set in New Orleans, a perfect place for this take. Read it, it's worth a try.

I really liked the premise behind this book….at the beginning. The story was good and drew me in. The ending felt rush and a little trite. The ending disappointed me and I felt robbed of the ending this book deserved.

Great read!

I am hoping this is series. This was suspenseful and a quick read I didn't want it to end. A second book is needed.

A solid 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling generous so I rounded up to 4. I'm really surprised that I liked this; I don't know what I expected, but it definitely wasn't what I got. The core message of the story is humans seeing what they want and what will justify their actions, hatred, etc., and I can appreciate the way it was applied. Coupled with decent writing, memorable dialogue and characters, and solid LGBT rep (there are some shaky moments, but overall it feels like it comes from a positive place with good intentions) makes a really good story, even if the ending was a but rushed, in my opinion.

To think of superpowered creatures coming to kill the people! I believe this is pretty close to what the world will be like during the final days following the second coming. In this story, chills ran down my spine as I imagined what this world was like and how close it runs to what I believe is our future. Makes you not want to be left behind! Great job writing this story and hope to read more from this author's imagination and 2 pens.

I really love the way Michael McGovern writes. He keeps my interest all the time from beginning to end. This was a unique evil vs good story and I really loved all the characters, even Daniel Blanc. I hope he writes more books.
