While I like the "original" black and white photos in this book, it is also nice to see the photos in color and so I recommend this book being read in conjunction with East Coast Victorians: Castles and Cottages and Victorian America: Classical Romanticism to Gilded Opulence.

Some truly beautiful homes. Considering that this book is now over 50 years old, I wonder how many more of the homes featured have been destroyed. Imagine if we could see these images in color. What beautiful details to see.
