The first diet book based on research with dancers, this guide provides information about proper dietary procedures that will enable people to reach and/or maintain their optimal body weight for dancing. Areas discussed include weight control, individual differences in metabolism, and body composition.
As a dancer who has to loose a bit of weight, I found the book very helpful and informative. However, I was surprised it actually offers sample diets for 1000 kcal - it's common in dance world, but I believe it shouldn't be encouraged.
There’s some real problems with the nutrition recommendations in this book. They contradict themselves and state we shouldn’t go below 1600 calories but them provide sample meal plans of 1000-1200 calories which sends mix messages and can promote restricted eating.
This book has been very helpful. It tells you how much of everything you need for your height and weight. Everything varies depending on you and I liked that this book wasn't so general with that, it helped very personally. Overall, I'm glad I read this book and I think I will definitely go back to it if my dance career ever takes off! This book gives you recommended intakes, sample menu's, overviews of nutrients and so much more; this is why this book is super helpful. Though it has been super helpful, there is nothing like reading a great fiction book so I think I'm gonna go back to reading fiction for now.
This book is VERY detailed! It educates you on the human body and the scientific reasoning behind why dancer`s need to eat the way they do. This is a book I reference frequently, not so much a ``sit down and read`` type book. Something I found really helpful was that there are many different meal plan suggestions depending on what level of training you`re currently at and how many and what type of calories you need to be consuming daily.
This is actually a pretty good book about dieting, how the body works, why it needs the nutrients and vitamins that it needs, how to meet those needs (even when dieting), etc. Although it's supposedly geared toward dancers and how dancers' bodies work, it's informative even for non-dancers (or former dancers).
