One more volume in Time-Life's "Voices of the Civil War" series. This one is different from most, though. The focus here is not any single battle; rather, it is a look at the soldier's life. As with all works in this series, the hallmark is observations from the soldiers themselves, whether from official reports, letters, or diaries.
The section titles begin to lay out the contents: "Answering the Call," "The Organized Bore," "A Question of Character," "Tenting Tonight," and "The Promise of Home." For each section, there is a brief introduction, putting that section within a context. Then, the voices of the participants themselves.
An interesting work that gives us an insight to the daily lives of Civil War troops.
