This is book 3 in the Ella Daniels Mystery series by USA TODAY Bestselling Author J. A. Whiting. Ella Daniels, a professor of American history at Green Hill University, comes from a family with many talents, and seeing ghosts is one of them. While out for a hike with her cat, Raisin, Ella comes upon a teenaged ghost in the woods. The young man seems startled that Ella and Raisin can see him and he leads them to a field off one of the trails where Ella finds something unexpected. Is the young ghost a victim of a decades old fire? Why won’t he cross over? What keeps him in the woods on Nipmuc Hill? And how did a young woman end up in the field? Is there a simple answer or is something more sinister going on? With the help of her boyfriend and her sister, will Ella be able to find the answers to two mysteries? This story has ghosts and mild paranormal elements.

There is no murder in this cozy mystery but a young law student seems to have attracted a stalker in this one. A teenage ghost needs help, the law student needs help to remember what happened to her, a touch of magic and romance.
This episode was totally complete, with the main mystery solved by the end of the book. I absolutely adore four-year-old Jack and his ability to see and help ghosts, as well as the ghost's living friend and sibling. I also absolutely love Raisin, Ella's black "Cutie Cat" and how Raisin ends up saving the day in this series. I love all of the human family members, their friends, and new acquaintances that arrive in each book. The characters are so alive and real to me that I feel like I can reach out and touch them. This episode is about a 16 year old ghost who was one of 4 boys that died in a fire 25 years ago. This one boy, Tommy Hunter is the only one of the 4 who died who has not crossed over to the other side. He must stay on earthly ground until he can help some people. While he is still on Earth, with the help from Ella and Raisin, he helps save the life of a young woman who is in a cold field without a coat. Jack also talks to Tommy, and draws pictures that Tommy tells him to draw. Tommy had been a really good artist, and he bonds with little Jack. I really love this series and have the 4th book in my Kindle. I hope there will be more books in this series. I gave this book a well-deserved 5 stars.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series. There are ghosts, smart cat, evil doers doing evil deeds, a touch of romance, and no graphic violence or sex...what more could you ask? I wish I had a cat like Raisin and sometimes I wish I could communicate with ghosts. I highly recommend this series. Each book can be considered to be a “stand alone” and has a clear ending (no cliff hangers here). But, I recommend starting at the beginning so you don’t miss any back story.
I am really enjoying this series and really wish it was longer! There is no murder in this book, but more of an attempted murder and stalking. And while I usually don’t really like mysteries without murder, I really enjoyed this book! The suspects are many, and until the end I couldn’t decide who was the culprit,
I'm hooked on J.A, Whiting's writing. In this series, there are wonderfully described characters and a believable story. I'm not usually a fan of stories with witches and ghosts, but in this series the main characters understand our skepticism and win us over. These stories are not gory, or scary or violent. They have mystery, suspense and romance in a G or PG rated presentation. I really enjoy them.
Very interesting! I could hardly put it down! It had a good amount of drama and intrigue and the final incident with Brigette and Brenda was a surprise! I knew Tommy would cross over but it was interesting to read how it was done!! Thank you!! I live your boos!! Some I’ve read more than once.
Just read the first three books in this series. Thoroughly enjoyed them, easy to read and did not guess "whodunit" till the baddie was revealed. Looking forward to continuing reading more adventures of Ella and her family.
All three books are enchanting. The characters are so likable they feel like friends. Light reading joining mysteries, witches and a touch of romance...priceless! A combination that is certain to hold the worries of the world at bay for a little while.
This is such a good series. The characters are so believable and well written. They are like good friends. Their town sounds amazing. This mystery had some things that effect women of today. It was really good.
I am really enjoying this series of stories written by J A Whiting. These books are about a whole family of people with physic gifts and who see ghost. They try to help the spirits cross over.
All if J A Whiting's books are light and easy to read. I am in the middle of the series and rereading a few before starting those I haven't read. Just delightful.
