South Side Boys #4

Bad Boy's Baby

Rate this book
Pregnant. Alone. With a target on my back from one of Chicago’s largest crime families . . .
His baby isn’t the only secret I’m carrying.
I’m the reason his brother is rotting in prison.

My job is to put criminals in jail,
Not sleep with the suspect’s brother.

He’s a walking contradiction.
With that bad boy swagger and enough ink on his body to write a novel, you’d think he belongs behind bars.
Not a desk at a financial firm.

It’s his eyes.
Soul piercing eyes.
Eyes that make your panties melt off.

But the deeper I fall for Ben. The harder it is to tell the truth.

While he struggles to right the wrongs of his family’s past.
I’m working hard behind the scenes to keep people like them locked up.

Getting pregnant by Ben is only the start to this drama,
And now I’m neck-deep, hiding secrets of my own.

Someone lock me up and throw away the key.
I’m about to serve a life sentence for f*ck up of the century.

This bad boy (STANDALONE) romantic suspense will have you on the edge of your seat and fanning yourself from the heat and passion!

I am enamoured with this author and her style of writing. Amanda and Ben are the main characters and their relationship is born out of trial and error, undercover assignment that had Amanda pretending to be with her friends "boyfriend" and had Ben calling her unflattering names. Eventually they find out each other's feelings and love is fine until their paste collide with the present. Friends take sides but are still loyal to both. Eventually secrets have been revealed that show Ben what as a$$hat he is being and he needs to swallow his pride and rethink his misplaced loyalty in order to get his hearts desire. I love realistic ending.

This was a good read. Amanda and Ben have some of the same friends. They begin dating and things get serious fast. Then some secrets come out and things were handled badly. Thankfully in the end it all works out and they get their happy ending.

Amanda is a cop and because of it, she doesn’t do relationships. Sparks fly between Ben and Amanda but she isn’t sure if a relationship is a good idea. Their friends are trying to push them together, but will it work? Will secrets break them apart? This is a fast-paced read with plenty of drama, suspense and steam. The characters are amazing with lots of depth and the story held my interest throughout. I loved it!

Captured and Freed by Love

The relationship of Amanda O’Donald and Ben Jameson seemed fated—the only single members of a group of friends who had all eventually paired off—seemed destined to find each other, or to be pushed together. And with the nudging of Tori West, there was no way the two acquaintances could avoid becoming friends and eventually lovers.

Amanda O’Donald has dated over the years, but never anything serious and never for long. And definitely no relationships, no strings, no expectations. These were decisions made because she had never met anyone really worth the struggle of a relationship. As a member of the Chicago Police Department, she had observed the struggles of her fellow officers dealing with the stress put on relationships by their professions. The unpredictable hours, the demands of secrecy and the simple fear and worry experienced by family took its toll. And now, she was faced with the same concerns—should she allow the relationship with Ben Jameson to continue to develop? Can she share her life with the only man she has ever allowed to get close, the only man she has ever loved.

And, as Amanda is once more caught up in a case in her old neighborhood in the South Side—the very location where over 10 years earlier her knowledge of the place and her careful observations had led her to be central in exposing a mob related operation of money laundering—she is pulled once more by the parallels of the past bust and the current case. And, when the arrests of that past case—members of the O’Shay family—have ties to her current lover—her love—Ben, Amanda can’t see how their relationship can possibly survive.

Alexis Winter continues her engaging story of friends who are family seeking their futures, but also discovering love. With strong, complex characters facing the challenges of life, Bad Boy's Baby is a well-crafted study of relationships. And, each novel is crafted so that while a part of a 4-novel series, it is easy to step into any novel and fully engage with that romance without the connected novels. But, with such engaging characters and plots, every novel is a reading experience to seek out and to enjoy. Friends who become like family and family who are also friends make for an affirming statement of the healing and accepting powers of love. The power, strength and comfort of strong relationships—friend, family and lovers—is certainly the on-going message in the South Side Boys series

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I purchased the novel to enjoy this series in my "read-again" titles.

AMAZINGNESS! Redemption is captivating from beginning to end which leaves you breathless and wanting more! Kalum & Tori, Maverick & Scarlett, Jaxson & Annabelle are best friends and family whose stories have already been told. This is Ben and Amanda’s story in the South Side series.
Ben Jameson is a gorgeous preppy financial advisor whose looks are deceiving. What lies underneath is a whole different story as Amanda will soon discover. Tori West, his best friend, keeps setting Ben up with horrible blind dates. After the last date, he goes up to the bar and sees one of their friends in his group sitting at the bar eating and drinking a beer. 💞
Amanda O’Donald is a beautiful detective who has terminal RBF which is a better weapon than the gun she carries when an unwanted dude harasses her. Ben approaches her at the bar and they strikes up a conversation. His bad date and her
trying to eat in peace without being hit on! The sparks fly between the two. Amanda isn’t looking for a serious relationship due to the nature of her being a cop. The chemistry between the two is off the charts! Hot and steamy!
Amanda goes undercover for a month which is a test for their relationship.
Both have secrets. Ben’s secret is his half brother, Aiden, who is in prison. He finally tells her. Amanda comes later in their relationship. She discovers she is responsible for Aiden’s arrest and imprisonment. She doesn't tell Ben. He discovers her secret when he visits Aiden in prison.
Ben is livid and storms out of her life. Amanda is feeling out of sorts and soon learns she pregnant. Ben won't call her back after she texts him to let him know they need to talk.
Months go by and a lot happens. Amanda helps free Aiden after the information he provided helps bring the bad guys to justice.
Will Ben finally forgive Amanda? Is he excited when he finds out about the baby? What’s in store for their future?
Is it Ben, Amanda, and Nugget make three?💋

Steamy sweet story between an adorable deserving couple; will their pasts prevent their future?
Could this series have gotten any better?! Well, it did. After having read all of this series, I can say unequivocally that this one is better than the last. I don’t say that lightly b/c every book has been wonderful! Within this tight-knit group of friends from the wrong side of Chicago comes a beautiful story with enough steam to keep you wanting more. There are secrets that hurt so bad when they come out and reconciliations that you won’t believe.
Before Kalum became Tori’s husband (read FAKE BOYFRIEND), her friends were trying to fix her up with this very good-looking, clean-cut, straight-laced guy who came to her coffee shop every day. By default, Ben becomes a part of their group and best friends with Tori. He’s noticed the quiet and unassuming girl, Amanda but with a boisterous crowd like they are a part of there’s not much chance of conversation until one night after Ben has had another horrendous blind date they end up at the same bar.
Amanda has a reputation of wanting to stay aloof b/c her job as a Chicago Police Detective doesn’t tolerate relationships well. She doesn’t want to go down that road of heartache so it’s easier to never let her heart go there. She’s had a “crush” on Ben for some time but has been afraid to do anything about it. After their unexpected meet-up at the bar, they decide to see where things go. And, THEY GO QUITE WELL!
There were so many great moments: the puzzle strip challenge game; scene in the rain; chapter 12, chapter 46 was priceless; meeting Mr. Dunlop (2 times) and the making up scene! There are also transformative moments too. Especially the one when Ben finds out something about Amanda that tears him apart. This is a must read if you’ve read the others in this series and if not, what are you waiting for?! An invitation…you just got it! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout and it comes highly recommended. I give it 5++ Stars.

The South Side Boy Series is a must
I can’t say it enough! This has been one of the best series I have read and Alexis Winter know how to write books that will keep your attention. I have enjoyed reading about this great group of friends who consider each other family.
Amanda grew up on the south side along with Kalum, Maverick and Jaxon (these are the previous books in this serious & although it’s not necessary to read them I highly suggest it). While the boys got in trouble Amanda stayed out of trouble and became a detective. Ben joined the group a little later. Ben moved from the south side when he was young but ironically, he lived across from Amanda at one time. Ben is a financial advisor and has stayed out of trouble but who know what’s under the suit and tie. One night he and Amanda have drinks after his bd blind date and they both realize they feel a connection. As they begin to develop feelings for each other Amanda decides to keep her work separate from their relationship, but later discovers something that could come between them. Ben also has a secret of his own and isn’t sure how to share it with Amanda. What happens when all the secrets surface?
Alexis brings us a heck of a story with well developed characters that have such explosive chemistry. She brings us action, suspense, secrets, and love. Amanda is hard on the outside but soon learns with the help of Ben that she is capable of so much love. Ben is amazing at building her up and his love for his family is strong. This book will get you from page one and won’t let go.

Alexis is one of my favorite authors and once again she has written a truly addictive intense novel. Ben is a gorgeous, tatted, man who looks like a bad boy but actually works in the financial field. He is tired of being set up with blind dates because he is the only single male in his group of friends. Amanda is also single and a dedicated police detective. She is not looking for a relationship as her job is dangerous, she works long hours and doesn’t have the time to devote to someone special. When Amanda and Ben meet there is an instant attraction between the two of them and they decide to try dating. These two are both keeping secrets that could impact on their relationship. Ben hasn’t told anyone that his brother is a convict. Once a month Ben visits his brother and he is attempting to help him overturn his conviction. Amanda discovers that Ben’s brother is in prison and that she is the one responsible for putting him there. What should she do? What will happen when Ben discovers Amanda is the one who arrested his brother? Is their love strong enough to overcome these obstacles? The superb writing and complex characters make this story a pleasure to read. Bad Boy’s Baby is a definite must read!

ONE COMBUSTIBLE BLOCK BUSTER!!!
Explosive! Alexis just dropped the bomb, blew me out of the water, called 911, pieced me together until help arrived, while lending them a hand, blazing this baby to life spectacularly. A raging tempest of fervent events chocked-full of daunting circumstances, blasting those swirling emotions into play front and center. Unveiling a foray of drama, angst, intrigue, misgivings, turmoil and mounting suspense spirals, ruling the roost, thrusting this gem into the eye of vortex, bursting it into a tailspin with a life altering, mind-blowing culmination. Add distress, escapades, havoc and perplexing situations along with a boatload of confusion, you have one mind-blowing adventure. The intense attraction and explosive chemistry sizzles, alluring and mesmerizing, drawing you deeper until you feel the electrifying hum running rampant through your veins. The characters are authentic and realistic with personalities and depth that blew this baby wide open and exposed in all it's glory. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Alexis, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

I have loved all the books in this series, which can be read as stand-alone, but are better read as a series (a lot of back stories). Ben’s best friend Tori is the worst matchmaker of earth, but she has his happiness at heart. She just picks terrible “blind” dates for him. After a particularly bad date, Ben decides to stop by a local watering hole for a few drinks, needing to forget the horrible date he just wasted money on.

Amanda is a police detective that is proud of her “resting bitch face,” ensuring that men don’t try to hit on her when she is enjoying a night alone in a bar. After a particularly tough day, Amanda is enjoying a few drinks when Ben walks in. They have known each other for some time, both being a part of a group of mutual friends. Amanda welcomes Ben to sit with her, and they both enjoy one another’s company. They eventually decide they will become a dedicated couple, but there are secrets uncovered that will destroy their relationship. Learning to forgive becomes paramount in healing broken hearts and relearning to trust each other. Warning: lots of love and heartache ahead!

Amanda O’Donald and Ben Jameson had something tying them together that they were not aware of until much later. After yet another bad blind date, Ben sits near Amanda at the bar and they get to take friendship a little deeper. Amanda is a member of the Chicago Police Department and always tried to avoid relationships because of her profession and the inherent stress involved. She has been interested in Ben, though, and after their time at the bar, they decide to pursue their feelings. Things are going well when the truth comes out that Amanda had been instrumental in Ben’s brother going to prison years ago. Ben blows up at her and won’t return her calls – not knowing that she is now pregnant. Will he find this out? Will he be able to forgive?

This story, originally entitled “Redemption”, truly is just that. When things begin to sort themselves out, it comes down to forgiveness, redemption, and making things right. Grab your copy and see how the open issues get resolved and if Ben will finally listen and figure out what he needs to do. You’ll love the characters in this one, and the story line is good and well-paced.

Highly recommend

I gave this book a 5 stars.
This was book 4 of the 'South Side Boys' series for now it's the last of the series. What a great way to end it!
Ben and Amanda were really stubborn people. She is a detective with a tuff facade, and he is a very smart man in the financial business. They both fought this intense attraction to each other for awhile, but when they fell in love it was kinda of a surprise to both of them. They were the last of the friends to couple up. Their chemistry was off the chains. Theirs was not an easy road to HEA , but they worked through the ups and downs!
This series was fantastic all 4 books were equally great, and I personally would recommend reading them in order for a better readers experience. They are standalones, but it is about family and friends drama.....so you getting the whole background story by reading 1 to 4. Go grab your copies and enjoy. They are so sexy hot.....loved them♥️🤩 Thank you to Alexis Winter for this wonderful series, I didn't want to say goodbye to them, I was feeling like part of the gang! I hope in the future we get to revisit with them.

The bigger the secret the more the truth hurts.

This is book 4 in the South Side Boys series. We focus on Amanda and Ben, two characters that are already well knows to readers of this series. I would recommend reading these books in order as there are several references to how Amanda got reconnected with her group of friends.

Ben has always seemed the upstanding gentlemen of the group, not having the more shady past the other guys in the group has. We get to find out more about him and that not everything is so cut and dry with his life. We also find out after Ben and Amanda get together that they were already connected in a way neither of them knows.

This story is all about learning to forgive and move past mistakes. You can find redemption if you work for it and secrets always have a way of being found out at the most inconvenient times.

I wonder if Ben’s brother will get a book now??? Here’s hoping.

I have loved this entire series and I have to say that this is the best of them all.

Ben and Amanda are part of a group of friends that hang around together over the years different friends have paired off and now with a bit of matchmaking on their friends part these two have started to see one another. The attraction between them is strong but Amanda as a police officer is worried she has seen what happens to the families of her fellow officers always worrying if they will come home. Then there are other problems between them ten years earlier her understanding of the South Side where she lived led to a major breaking of a money laundering scheme now it is active again and she is been asked to help on the case a where the people in that past have ties to Ben. Can they have a future together when so much of the past lays between them.

The best book ever!!! I thought the other books about the friends were good but with this one, Ms. Winter hit it out of the park. You got friends with great friendships. There is always drama, secrets and trying to overcome loss. Being shy makes you blend in with your surroundings but it also makes you be notice in a crowd. This book had my heart pounding hoping for the best outcome for Amanda and Ben. Blind dates do not always work out for the best but they are funny to read about. You want steam then crack open this book and it will have a blaze sky high. I recommend reading this book and the book of his friends. Ms Winter has not disappointment me yet on reading her books. If I could have given this book 10 stars then I would have. Excellent Job Well Done!!

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your street team.

This book definitely delivered. Ben and am and a are amazon charcters that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. Although I found things slightly predictable this book gave me all the feels.

Amanda is an amazing charter with her brilliant RBF she is a strong willed stubborn women just like many of us. She is totally relatable and has balls of steel.

Ben is the preppy boy who hides the real him under his clothing, getting to know the real Ben has been an amazing journey.

This was another amazing book that doesn't let you down. You will djnd yourself wanting to scream at the book and cry at the same time.

I hope this isn't the end of the south side boys I have loved getting to know each of them.

Alexis has done a phenomenal job again !! The last of this series is amazing !! Although without givin anything away I was really really mad at Amanda and their so called friends. What went down, well the second part, was really messed up. I uugghh ok I was, what the heck I am STILL livid that my blood is boiling.

You’ll just have to get a copy to see what I’m trying to express. I know not everyone will agree but it just boils my blood. I absolutely loved all these characters and love their friendships as a group (well except this one time). I know the title was changed but I liked Redemption better as the title. More fitting. Anyway HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING THIS WHOLE SERIES !!!!

This is such a great series. This is Amanda and Ben’s story. We met them I. the second book. Ben looks like a pretty boy, but looks can be deceiving. He can be a bad boy when he wants. 😈 Amanda is a cop and has always put her career first. She has never had a real relationship, so when Ben asks her out, she lets him know. They decide to keep it one day at a time and not put a label on it. That also goes out the window. Alexis did such a great job with all these couples and I absolutely loved Ben and Amanda. You don’t have to read them before you read this one, but you will get more out of it if you read them from the beginning. In true Alexis fashion, you will be wondering what is going to happen next.

I think if someone is going to beat Maverick for being swoon worthy, it could be Ben... that was before he acted stupidly toward Amanda though... and his action is a reason why I give this book 4.5 stars. Ben and Amanda's story is another friends to lovers romance in the South Side Boys Series. And I think the author is so good because she created a story that I enjoy it so much and never get bored. The story has a lot of laughable moments from the beginning then when their relationship is developed, it is steamy. And I even cried when they fight with each other because Amanda is so strong and she deserves so much more. So I think it has everything I like to read and would recommend it to everyone.

A great story to read! I like how this story is more focused on Amanda's career choice & where her path goes in life. Ben is the boyfriend who accepts her & takes her time in undercover work in stride. They realize their lives are more closely intertwined than they originally thought. Puzzle pieces start to fit in, busting the mafia ring in their neighborhood. With Amanda's help & Aiden's, the people are safe. Once their secrets are uncovered, their love for each other is very fragile & shatters. Whether they can get past the real truth will be determined on who realized what & who is important in their life.

Fantastic story.
This book was amazing I loved Amanda & Ben's story. I couldn't put it down I was drawn in from the start. Although they knew each other by having shared friends it wasn't until he went on a blind date that thankfully ended in disaster & whilst celebrating his freedom he bumped into Amanda hitting it off straight away. They spent time together getting closer but she was afraid to commit. Everything between them was amazing both telling each they loved them but a secret threatened their happy ever after. This story had lies, secrets, drama involving criminals, friendships, love, hurt & at times quite emotional which I shed a few tears at.

What a phenomenally new book from Alexis Winter in the South Side Boys series. Amanda is a police detective who hasn't had an ideal family situation which is why she doesn't really want a family at least not at first. Ben has been friends with Tori for a while yet he has a secret that none of his friends know. Both Amanda and Ben are hiding secrets from each other, yet will these secrets keep them apart or bring them together? Bad Boy's Baby is a heart wrenching story filled with secrets, heartache, witty banter, friendship, family, laughter, passion, and love. Readers will love this new captivating book from Alexis Winter and they won't want to put it down.

All the elements that I fell in love with with the South Side boys were here! Ben and Amanda were definitely a cool mix of characters. I liked the accountant-detective mix because surprisingly, theirs was a drama-filled partnership. I appreciated that there were a lot of subtle hints and not-so-subtle hints that connected this book to what happened in the previous stories. Although, this is a complete standalone, I really enjoyed the continuity of the story of the series. Special mention to Tori. I just love her! Now, I’m also adding Christopher to my favorite characters.

This was a heartwarming love story. Amanda and Ben get to know each other after Ben has a terrible blind date. His blind date was very amusing but the result was getting to know Amanda. The twists, turns and surprises mostly come from results of Amanda's job as a cop and communication between her and Ben. There is a great set of character friends for the two that keep the story interesting and entertaining. Amanda kept a secret from Ben and he finds out from someone else and that causes a great rift in their relationship. By the time Ben decides to try to mend fences she has another secret. When he learns the other secret it gives them a happy ending.

This is the fourth book of the South side boys series. We get to know Ben and Amanda in previous books, as friends of Tori and Kalum. They known each other for a while, but nothing has happened between them, mostly because they are always surrounded by friends. Until one that they get together alone.
What started as a "no strings attached" relationship, has potential to be more, but when their former issues and fears surface, things get complicated.
I liked the book, mainly because I can see what the gang is up to and for Alexis writing. But for me it started slow and with too much overthinking mainly by Amanda. That is why I gave it 4 stars

A rollercoaster ride of emotion

Amanda, a police detective, and Ben, a financial planner, have known each other for a couple of years and one night they run into each other without all their other friends around. As the story progresses a new friendship is formed, a slow game is played, and secrets kept may just ruin the fragile future they are building. Alexis Winter’s Bad Boy’s Baby is a rollercoaster ride of emotion and a lovely addition to the series. I can only hope that there might be something in the works for Aiden to close out the series.

Again I was not disappointed by this author or this series. The story of Ben and Amanda is filled with every emotion. The two are friends through mutual acquaintances and after a few to many failed blind dates Ben decided to take a chance. Their relationship if blissful in the beginning and then runs into a major bump in the road that ends it all. After months of contemplation things work out. It all ends with happily every after and a happy family. This was wonderfully written love story.

While this is a stand-alone book the background of books 1, 2, and 3 will enrich your reading pleasure immensely.
Having said that, I’m a fan of this author. Have been for a while. Probably always will be. This book lives up to her reputation of being a great writer.
The story, with or without the back story, draws you in and keeps you engaged to “the end” of the book. The characters held me spellbound and wanting more. It’s a great storyline with even greater character interaction. I truly enjoyed the journey through the book.
